Because of a wrong Facebook update one of my colleagues was afraid I took the wrong direction. To prove I'm on the right train I took a picture of the Częstochowa station, http://bit.ly/adldnP.

While the train left the station I was still leaning out of the window and I took this shot. A bit vague, but I like it.

The lovely and vivid marketplace has gone

Yesterday I planned to have a business meeting on the marketplace in the nice city center of Gliwice. During the summer season this marketplace is so nice, it's one big terrace and full of activity.

Unfortunately, not right now. In the middle of the summer season they started a big reconstruction. This seems to include historical research as well.

Hopefully next year we will have an even more beautiful marketplace in return.

Together with son Dorian we visited the start of the Tour de France in Rotterdam. It was supposed to be a hot day. And it was up to the moment the bikers started to bike. It started raining and we felt cold.

It was sunny and hot today. Anyway I wanted to bike through the woods. Without a map (hardly available) I had to find my way. Thanks to Google maps and my iPhone I managed. Believe me, the area is really beautiful.

Watching football together in Lion's Den

Living abroad and watching football (soccer) together with other Dutch People is really great. That's why we have a "Lion's Den" at four places in Poland: Warsaw, Kraków, Poznan and Gdansk/Sopot. Today we had the kick-off for the World Championship 2010. Our Dutch team played with Denmark and won 2-0!

A little bit of information just helps

This morning the Wizzair (http://wizzair.com) flight from Gdansk to Dortmund was delayed by almost 2 hours.

Many people were complaining. Basically, I think due to a lack of information. Nobody explained what was going on and what we could expect.

Once we were sitting in the plane the captain explained that due to thick fog early morning 3 planes couldn't land. They were redirected to Warsaw where they had to wait for some hours.

At once the delay was logical and accepted.

I believe this could have happened two hours before as well.

Our sons are playing the piano better almost every week

Today I could attend my six years old son's piano lesson. Recently
unfortunately this doesn't happen too often. It was really great to
hear him playing together with his teacher. They were really having
fun. His skills are improving at high speed. At least that's my
observation as a proud father.

Microsoft Office 2010 upgrade went smooth

I just installed the new Microsoft Office 2010. As an Office 2007 user I was afraid about the upgrade, but it went all smooth. E-mail accounts, e-mail, calendar and document history all have been migrated to Office 2010 and quite fast.

I was hoping Outlook would perform better, but till now it doesn't, may be it's still indexing all my e-mail. Furthermore I'm impressed by all the new features. Some of them are being shown in the above movie.

The Outlook Social Connector looks promising. Till now I was using different other tools for this purpose. Right now you can connect to LinkedIn, MySpace, Hotmail and your Sharepoint server. On the website they also indicate Facebook has a connector, but this one seems not to be available yet.

I guess it will take some time before I will realize the full power of all the new features of this new Office release.

Docs beta looks really nice, really promising

My invitation for http://docs.com, the online Microsoft Office solution on Facebook, started to work. The solution is really promising. The online version is really comparable with Office 2007. Uploading an existing presentation and spreadsheet went smooth. All animations and lay out settings were copied. When uploading the same files to the competitor Google Docs most of the lay out and animations are gone.

Sharing the documents with some or all your Facebook fans is really easy.

Unfortunately I found some bugs as well. When editing several sheets within an Excel doc, most of the sheets were not saved. But I presume it’s a matter of time before this will be fixed.

All in all Google Docs looks very promising.

Some weeks ago I registered to test the new online Office offering by Microsoft together with Facebook. I just received the invitation to start using the service. Unfortunately it’s not available right now. That’s a pity. I’m really curious how it compares to the regular Office and Google Apps.
