Rafael
Sounds like an interesting journey indeed. One that every manager must make but few actually spend time thinking about and building into their work patterns.
Also, it sounds like the road to your improved website is a creative process. You're really designing something that is not out there yet. And creativity is sometimes at it's best when it comes unvarnished from a variety of heterogeneous sources.
Best of luck on your latest endeavor.

Lovely, well thought out and written post Raphael! But by being a good leader and letting more room for other people, more of you is getting in too, maybe in not such an obvious way.

Hey Karim,

Why the move? Love for the brands, and being offered a position where I felt I could get kickass work done.

This article makes me wonder why you made the switch in the first place. What made you decide to leave working on different brands, in a swanky office, and focus on one brand - in a maybe less swanky environment?

As far as having to work with tight budgets, well that's something everyone (client side, or agency side) has to deal with, these days. Although frustrating at times, it can also mean that you have to be creative in how to spend it. I think the lack of budget doesn't mean a lack of creativity, or means to do something, at all.

Coming from an agency side, I think, did also help you assess and benchmark proposals from your suppliers. Which is a tremendous asset.

I think for me it would really depend on the diversity within the brand, and the strategic plan for the next few years.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that.

I agree with that! Well, I already posted a Twitter comeback on behalf of the brand. My colleague Mutaurwa suggests actually producing a rodent-size backpack... Not sure we'll pull that one off!!

Forgive the pun, but run with it.

This is an awesome opportunity to become a brand that gets humour - there are very few brands that can pull off being funny, friendly, intelligent and mainstream all at the same time. (Pret a Manger sandwich shops and Mini are two of the few that come to mind).

This is probably a hugely scary decision - I can imagine various serious running people (marketing, product, production etc) being really scared at this sort of thing. But really, what have you got to lose? It's pretty hard to see how serious running types would get offended by this - and be dissuaded to buy shoes etc from Asics because of this.
