All Aboard Expo 2026 in Quezon City

From May 28 to 31, 2026, Quezon City hosted the All Aboard Expo 2026, the country’s largest board game convention, organized by Gaming Library in partnership with the local government. Held at the QC M.I.C.E. Center from May 28–31, the expo gathered thousands of tabletop enthusiasts, families, and curious newcomers eager to explore the world of board gaming.

Highlights from the Expo

According to press releases and Gaming Library’s official updates, this year’s expo was the largest yet, drawing a record-breaking 16,225 attendees across four days. With this turnout, the event officially became the largest board game expo in Southeast Asia — a historic milestone for the local gaming community.

Admission was free for QC residents and children under 12, while non-residents paid a minimal fee of ₱150. VIP passes ranged from ₱1,000–₱5,500, bundled with collectible items and board games worth up to ₱4,000.

The expo showcased more than 200 exclusive board game releases, including Filipino-themed titles such as:

Sinigang — a card game adaptation of the beloved dish
Modern Art Philippine Edition — featuring works by local artists
Kalikasan Cascadia Philippine Edition — highlighting native wildlife like the Philippine eagle and tamaraw

Beyond the releases, the expo hosted major tournaments like the Asia Championship of Unmatched, Grand Archive Regionals, and competitions for Catan, Cascadia, and Harmonies. Workshops featured renowned designers such as Emerson Matsuuchi and Rob Daviau.

To make the event accessible, the Quezon City government provided free QCity Bus rides from Cubao, Litex, Mindanao Ave, and other points to the venue. Over 280 volunteers helped guide attendees, reinforcing the expo’s strong community spirit.

Our Brief Visit

Together with my son, we visited the expo on Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, we got our passes first and then went to the food stalls since our little boy wanted fries and a mango shake.

Our little boy was curious about the board game, Mycelia, which is based on mushrooms. Luckily, they were looking for players when we passed by the table. They asked if my son was already 10 (the game is for 10+ years old). I said no, but he loves to play board games. Our Bunso was able to play the game with 3 adults for around 30 minutes.

Our time at the expo was short, but it was enough to soak in the excitement. We walked through the booths, saw families enjoying demos, and caught a glimpse of the newest titles on display. Even in that brief visit, the energy was contagious — proof that board gaming is thriving in the Philippines and continues to bring people together.

Though our visit was quick, the All Aboard Expo 2026 left a lasting impression. As independent homeschoolers enrolled in the US through HomeLife Academy and Better Together Homeschool International, we transferred our two younger kids back to the PH education system. We only wanted to transfer Ate Z since she expressed her desire to leave homeschool and attend a brick-and-mortar school. My heart was not yet ready to let go of Ate Z, so we looked for a DepEd-accredited homeschool provider instead, where she could still learn at home and get familiar again with the DepEd curriculum. I wanted her to be ready to handle the demands of a face-to-face modality before we enroll her outside of homeschool. This is where St. Mark Integrated School (SMIS) comes in as the best choice for her.

Programs of St. Mark Integrated School

SMIS offers unique programs that give flexibility for families. Whether you choose the face-to-face, online, or modular, the same lesson and teacher per subject will be in charge.

SCHOOL = face-to-face modality wherein students can attend their classes at the physical school, attend their online classes, or do their digital modules
HOME PLUS = online classes with the flexibility for students to use their digital modules
HOME = pure full modular modality where students study remotely using the platforms of the school. Here, the parents are the main teachers

For Ate Z, we chose the full modular program for her (HOME).

Home Program: Full Modular

Let's focus on the full modular program of SMIS, as this is the modality we chose for our child. Note that what I share is based on the HOME program where our child was enrolled.

Schedule

St. Mark follows the 4 quarters per school year, and each quarter has 8 weeks.

In our experience, most of the lessons are scheduled from Week 1 up to Week 6.

Week 7 is usually used to complete pending tasks (assignments) by the student, as well as a chance to review for the quarter exams.

Lastly, Week 8 is the exam week, when the students take the quarter exams of the major subjects through their online platform, Quipper. Note that the exam is synchronous, meaning all students take the online exam together while being monitored by the teachers. The student will need 2 devices here.

After the exam week is the Wellness Break, during which students have a full week to rest before they study again for the next quarter. We really like this approach of SMIS as it helps our child to do other activities aside from academics, plus, she looks forward to her wellness breaks.

Platforms

All the learning materials provided by the school, including the assigned tasks that the child must complete, are located in their Google Classroom. Since each student is provided their own Google Workspace by the school (they have their own SMIS email), it is easier for teachers to monitor their progress. The lessons are text-heavy, in a PDF format, and uploaded to the drive that the students will access through their Google Classroom accounts.

For assessments, students take their quizzes and quarter exams through Quipper. SMIS also provides practice exams and reviewers through this platform.

Other platforms used were Canva, YouTube, and a school management system for parents. The school system was very helpful for parents to check our accounts, payments, and the grades of our daughter online.

Curriculum

The curriculum, though text-heavy, was comprehensive. Moreover, I noticed that the materials were actually designed for independent learning, as these were easy to understand, including Math, which provided a good number of examples! Of course, our daughter still needed my help in understanding the lessons, but she was mostly able to go through them on her own by the third quarter.

Aside from the documents on her Google Classroom, we supplemented some of the lessons with books from our home library and videos found on the internet to help her get a better grasp of the concepts, including real-life applications.

For each lesson, there was an assigned task that the student needed to complete. For example, if the English subject has 2 lessons in Week 4, she has 2 assignments for that subject that week. So, for a Grade 5 student who has 5 major and 3 minor subjects, she has at least 8 assignments per week. It may be tedious for the student, but I saw the improvement in our daughter's sentence construction. And in my opinion, those assignments were a good practice in composition, and I'm all for it.

Socialization

St. Mark has a weekly online socialization class for all their programs. For our kids' level, theirs was scheduled in the morning. Our daughter has only attended a few sessions since she starts her day late.

On the other hand, almost every month, the school has an event where the students can join the contests, submit entries online, and attend the culminating on-site event. This is actually one of the main reasons why we chose SMIS, since it is only in Quezon City, our child can join these. Unfortunately, the events start in the morning, and our daughter is a late riser (no complaints here since she gets at least 9 hrs of sleep). We almost attended one event, but when I woke her up that morning, she was too sleepy and slow-moving, and we would be late if we pushed it. Oh well. I guess she can't make it to a face-to-face school setup now, right? LOL!

Support of SMIS

We did all our transactions with the school online, which includes enrollment and payments.

In our experience, we got immediate responses when we communicated with their directors through their Viber numbers.

As for the teachers, they respond through the chat on Google Classroom or through email. A few of her teachers respond to the assignment submitted on Google Classroom and give feedback on the student's output. This is very important for the student to know if there is anything they need to work on or if they are doing a great job.

We highly appreciate Ate Z's homeroom teacher and section adviser, Teacher Jessamae. She always reminds students of their completion via email and gives clear instructions during online assessments. And if there are any concerns, and she is copied in the communication, she makes sure that she checks out if the appropriate person has reached out already to us. Moreover, there is a consultation time with their teachers on the day of the release of their grades.

Another thing that I really appreciate about SMIS is the weekly admin online meeting. On Mondays, the school allots 15-30 minutes to give updates for parents, as well as a chance to raise any concerns to the administration.

St. Mark really listens to their students, parents, and guardians. Just to share, when the SY started, the school implemented a new LMS, but the software provider was not able to deliver, and the students felt that inadequacy. SMIS immediately removed this provider, and we were able to have a smoother school year by Q2. I really appreciate and admire the quick decision and action of the school to attend to the needs of the students. This goes to show that SMIS's heart is for the students.

Overall, we are grateful for St. Mark Integrated School, which provided the flexibility and support we needed as a homeschooling family. The HOME program gave us the option we were looking for, the teachers and admin were responsive, and the system helped our daughter adjust to the DepEd curriculum while still learning at home. SMIS continues to listen and improve, and that commitment has been a blessing for families like ours. We look forward to seeing how it grows and supports more homeschooling journeys in the future.

Yayoi Japanese Restaurant at UP Town Center

My husband and I were out on errands and decided to have a lunch date at UP Town Center, along Katipunan in Quezon City. We tried Yayoi Ken on the ground floor of Phase 2, one of the very few restos left in this mall that we haven't eaten at. Since it was a holiday, there were very few people at the mall, so we were able to get a table immediately. On each table is a tablet that the diners will use to view the menu, place orders, ask for service, and pay. The waiter gave us instructions on how to navigate their system. Though there were 2 menu books on our table, we just focused on the tablet instead.

After a few minutes, our lunch kicked off with our gyoza and spicy salmon roll.

Yayoi started as a European restaurant in Tokyo during the Meiji era. Today, YAYOI is switching things up—sharing with the world our everyday fave, Teishoku, in a fresh new way. Teishoku is a simple yet well-balanced set meal that is served on a tray. The set meal has the main dish, side dish, Japanese rice, Japanese pickles, and Japanese miso soup. Yayoi currently has more than 600 branches all over the world. This particular branch in UP Town Center is located across the Lego store and near Flying Tiger.

Our main meals came in after a few minutes. During this time, more people came in and filled the restaurant. I have noticed that the place is usually frequented by groups of friends and families.

Overall, the experience was truly satisfying—the food was flavorful and authentic, the service attentive and superb, and the prices offered great value for money. We also appreciated the added convenience of the in‑house technology, where customers can place orders or call for service using a tablet. While a 10% service charge was included in the tab, it felt justified given the excellent service we received. It’s a place we’ll happily return to, and one we’d recommend to anyone craving a memorable Japanese dining experience.

My Encounter with St. Charbel Maklouf

Hello, World. It is Mother's Day, and I went out for a coffee. I have no prior plans for today, nothing overly productive; I just wanted to have some time for myself. So, as I sipped this Spanish latte from this stool facing the glass window of the new coffee shop in our area, let me write down my experience when I visited the relic of St. Charbel Maklouf last month.

One of my besties told us about her recent experience with the relic of St. Charbel. A few weeks later, our parish posted on its social media page the schedule of the visit of St. Charbel's relic in our area. I took down the calendar on the upper right corner of my workstation and jotted down the date. Though I do not have a particular prayer request and reason to visit, I promised myself that I would attend the event.

On April 24, Friday, after my volunteer work at the public library, I walked for less than a kilometer to reach the church. When I got there, the mass for St. Charbel had just concluded, and the place was overflowing. I bought a mini rosary from the vendor outside and waited for instructions from the organizers. I saw one of our neighbors and her kids moving to fall in line for the priest's anointing of the Holy oil and viewing of the relic.

A few minutes later, I was the next in line. Our parish priest blessed me with the holy oil and also touched the mini rosary I was holding.

I wasn't praying for anything at all, but the moment Father Joseph blessed me and placed the Holy Oil on my forehead, a sudden burst of energy went through me. It was as if a weight had been lifted. I started to feel emotional as I walked towards the relic.

In a profound moment, I began to cry in front of the relic. There was absolutely nothing on my mind at that time. I got confused why I started welling. "Bakit ako umiiyak??"

A few seconds later, I walked towards the pews and sat. I had to sit because I couldn't control my emotions. I sobbed. I cried like I haven't cried in a decade.

I wasn't crying because I felt hurt.

I wasn't crying because I was praying for something.

I was crying, but my analytical mind could not fathom why.

It was a release.

There had been a few videos where I had seen people who uncontrollably cried after a part of their body that was tense was released through a massage or protocol. The therapists on these videos said it was a release of tension, fear, anger, and grief. Their bodies were finally able to let go of these trapped emotions.

Looking back, I believe that's what happened to me. There was no physical movement, but the Holy Oil and the presence of the spirit of God released all of these emotions. I was crying uncontrollably while seated. Clueless at that moment, I allowed the tears to flow. Minutes passed. People came and went. And when the tears stopped, I stood up and left.

Despite the heat of the wind and sun at noontime, I walked out of the church feeling so good.

There really is something profound about the St. Charbel experience. God worked on this saint, the priest, and everyone who was present there. The Holy Spirit was undoubtedly the power behind the experience.

A warm afternoon light touched the skin on my arm as I listened to the homily of the last Sunday of 2025. The old lady on the left pew tilted her head as if trying to feel the warmth of the sunlight as well. The airconditioning of the church was running well, it was comfortable even though the afternoon sunshine was warming our backs.

I lifted my left hand to see how that light touched my skin. It felt warm, kind, joyous, and ethereal.

It was peace. Clarity. Love. It was Knowing.

And right at that moment, a silent but strong epiphany happened. I decided to shut down my more than a decade-year-old Facebook page.

The Birth of Petite Momma

Out of boredom as a corporate-woman-turned-stay-at-home-mom in 2013, I scavenged my talent box for a skill I could use to keep me sane while caring for a toddler. I reckoned it doesn't have to be grand, just something to keep me afloat while navigating my first few months as a former slave of the workforce. When you are accustomed to working at least 9 hours a day, five days a week, and even working on holidays, you may experience some "withdrawal symptoms" from being a workaholic. Some say it's probably because of the income you missed, but I would like to point out that that's beside the point. Routines and habits from a decade of working can be deeply ingrained and programmed in your brain, so that an abrupt cessation of the work (not applicable to vacations, I should say) can be debilitating to some. It felt like I was slowly losing my knowledge and skills. And in my case, I lost myself and questioned who I was aside from being a wife and a mother.

In the last quarter of that year, the first skill that came into my mind was baking. I have been sporadically baking for my loved ones since I graduated from college. I thought, maybe baking is the best skill that can keep me preoccupied in between diapers, milk, and house cleaning. To launch my baked goods business, I commissioned my brother to create a logo for me. Hence, the lady flying in a cupcake lining paper, holding a rolling pin ready to smack anyone on the way, was born. Just kidding, I am in no way violent. Well, if not provoked, though. LOL! Along with the logo, the Facebook Page of Petite Momma was born.

Shifting Worlds of Petite Momma

When I scrapped my baking goods business and transitioned to a mom blog in 2014, I retained my brand name and logo - primarily because that was a sound financial decision. This website came to fruition, and my more-than-a-decade-long journey of mom blogging opened up a lot of experiences. Throughout the years, the blog had a plethora of topics - from sharing brands that we love, our travels, recipes, and homeschooling, to self-development and transformation.

As the FB page grew, so did I. But behind the camera and social media accounts, I have always struggled with being public and private. Unbeknownst to many, I started writing on the internet anonymously. I have been blogging since 2006, but was an enigma to the internet. I liked to share, but not too much. And being a mom blog has always kept me between sharing our lives with the world and keeping things private. I have always been private, but I still need to share my stories, my values, my learnings. And when social media became a thing for most blogger moms, it became even more apparent that I am caught between my desire to be anonymous and being an influencer.

After the pandemic, I slowly retreated into my shell. I did not have the energy to share stories on social media, including our YouTube homeschool channel, but still kept my FB page because "sayang naman." My numbers are small compared to others, but it was built organically by true people throughout the years, so simply letting it go would be unimaginable.

For years, my statistics have significantly dropped, my followers plateaued, and my reach became irrelevant to the algorithm. Many new mom sharers on FB and TikTok rose and became household names in a matter of months from launching. While mine, stuck in its shell, is still contemplating whether I should leave or stay. I was a speck in a universe of mom influencers.

But the very few quiet readers made me stay. Though my numbers are insignificant to the usual crowd, my messages were heard by listening hearts. These messages echoed through the lives of others, giving a little spark in their mundane lives.

To a few, I mattered. To the rest of the internet, I was a number.

I Outgrew Who I Was

I liked this saying I heard from an inspirational speaker,

"You are under no obligation to be who you were 5 minutes ago."

And it is so true. We can change. We can evolve and be something we were not five minutes ago. And we are under no obligation to explain to others who we have become and who we want to be in the future. And I think what's holding me back from letting go of this identity as Petite Momma is nostalgia and being afraid that I am turning back to who I was.

But, no.

I am not turning back to who I was. I just outgrew it.

Staying and maintaining the social media accounts just drains me. It no longer gives me joy.

And I just have to stop.

I need to acknowledge that I have evolved. And that shutting down the FB page is my first step to accepting who I want to be in the future.

Petite Momma was there during the time I needed it. It has served its purpose for me. And now I need to let it go to serve another meaning and purposeful life that is waiting for me.

It is not about stepping away from something. It is about stepping up to another level on a ladder. Petite Momma was me, and it would always be me. But I will show up to how I want to be.

So, I have said goodbye to my FB page.

But I am keeping this website. Why?

Because here I can be fully who I am.

Here, there are no vanity metrics for me to look at and question my value.

Here, I can write the way I want, and no brand tells me otherwise.

Here, my messages can reach the ends of the earth.

Here, I can focus on myself and no longer look at how others are doing.

Here, I can filter my privacy but still be able to share my lessons.

Here, I am happy.

And so, here I am. Waiting for my life to unfold one day at a time. I am at peace. And I am ready for the next steps.

Now, it’s part of my daily rhythm—bittersweet, grounding, warm, just me.

The lipstick stain on the rim isn’t just a trace of color. It’s a mark of presence.

Of showing up.
Of becoming.
Ever evolving.
Expanding.
Growing.

I am no longer who I was, and there’s a new version of me in the future.

But in this moment, with pastry crumbs and caffeine warmth, I’m exactly who I need to be.

Stop Trying to Calm the Storm. Calm Yourself.

This week I experienced my first super kaba moment as a mom of a student who is in a face-to-face modality.
(If you are new here, I’m a homeschool mom)

Our eldest, who only started commuting on his own last week, got lost.

He missed his stop and traveled 7 kilometers away.

I was monitoring his location through the app. His avatar stopped near his stop and did not update, so I just thought na baka mahina ang data at baka naglalakad na sya pauwi.

When it finally moved, I was so surprised that his next location was already 4 kilometers away from his supposed stop!!!

I tried to call him, but he didn’t answer since his phone was in his bag.

By the time I was able to get a hold of him, he was so far away na.

My heart stopped. And then began beating so fast. Panic na ang nanay.

Hindi niya alam ang lugar na yun. And that place is already “delikado” for him.

But because it was loud inside the jeep, he couldn’t hear me. I was supposed to instruct him to alight at Alimall, where it’s safer than where he currently was. Pero nalaman ko, bumaba na sya ng jeep! Patay na

He is nowhere near a jeepney or bus going back to his route since one-way yung kalsada. I texted him and told him to enter a fast-food or resto where it’s safer. Buti may 7-11.

Ano, susunduin ko na ba? Mag book na ba ako ng Grab for him?

My husband assured me that it would be a great learning experience for him to figure things out. And that I should trust him.

I took a long, deep breath. Calmed my nerves and then looked at his location again.

From there, I came up with a plan.

I gave him instructions on how to get home using a different route. That would mean he has to ride 2 different jeeps and a tricycle, needs to navigate roads unfamiliar to him, tumawid sa major roads, and gather the strength to move forward.

My 14yo child was calm.

He was using technology to navigate his way back.

And after 2 hours of stress for this momma, he was home safe. He did it.

Whew.

I knew the easiest way out was for us to pick him up where he was. We could drive there in less than an hour (matrapik na din kasi) or i-book ko sya ng Grab car, but it was a learning opportunity. An opportunity to learn not only for him, but most especially for me.

If I learned to let go last week, this week I learned to trust more.

Trust more in my son’s capabilities.

Trust more in God that he is protected at all times.

Trust that my heart is capable of handling stressful situations like this.

The only way for us to calm the storm is to calm our hearts first.

Last Monday, something shifted.

Our son stepped into a whole new world-his first time in face-to-face school after years of homeschooling and online distance learning. It was also my first time to bring a child to school. 𝘖𝘰, 𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪 𝘬𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘪𝘵 𝘱𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯.

When we got there, I gave him final reminders before he went inside his school building. I left the school with prayers in my heart. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The weather had other plans.

Rain flooded the metro, traffic was horrible, and getting a ride in public transportation was a nightmare.

When the classes were suspended, he went home on his own. It was his first time to commute solo.

Thank goodness for the location sharing thru messenger, I knew exactly where he was. It took him almost 3 hours to get home. 😱

He came home drenched, tired, hungry, and with soaked shoes.

It could’ve been called a bad day.

But what I saw was growth.

His, and mine.

It was a day of firsts wrapped in soggy socks and answered prayers.

A day that tested independence, resilience, and trust.

A day that whispered, “He’s ready,” and gently reminded me that letting go is both the hardest and holiest thing we do as mothers.

We teach, we nurture, we prepare. But then comes the letting go—the part they don’t write about in parenting books. And sometimes, growth looks like flooded streets and brave little feet moving forward anyway.

A week of rain. A night of flooding. And maybe, an ocean of emotions we've all been holding.

For many moms, this season feels like a metaphor—when life overwhelms, routines are washed out, and we’re forced to pause and recalibrate. This is something I’ve been reflecting on deeply as I work on a journal called “Rewriting Motherhood”—about finding grace in the pause.

So if the storm outside mirrors the one within, take this as your gentle invitation to breathe.

Reflect.

Ask yourself: What is this moment teaching me?

Yes, it's okay to feel angry. It's okay to feel tired.

But in the middle of this storm, I see something else too: neighbors helping neighbors, messages checking in, little acts of care that shine through the gloom. Gratitude doesn’t erase the struggle—it simply reminds us of what remains.

I know you are worried about your kid who is at school. He may not be the brightest or follows the teachers, but you know he is kind and loving.

Cooperatives Thrive at SM Supermalls’ Weekend Market

In a meaningful step toward strengthening local enterprises, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and SM Supermalls formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on July 1, 2025, at the SM Supermalls Headquarters in Pasay City.

Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations of SM Supermalls formalized partnership through a MOA signing with CDA Chairperson Usec. Alexander B. Raquepo and CDA Administrator Asec. Santiago S. Lim, that aims to empower Filipino cooperatives through the SM Weekend Market initiative.

The MOA was signed by CDA Chairperson Undersecretary Alexander B. Raquepo and SM Supermalls Vice President for Mall Operations Engr. Junias M. Eusebio, alongside key leaders from both institutions.

“This is a historic partnership between the private and public sectors,” shared Usec. Raquepo. “It’s a powerful step forward in uplifting our micro, small, and medium cooperative entrepreneurs—helping expand market access while improving the economic well-being of our communities.”

Fresh, proudly Filipino produce takes the spotlight supporting local farmers and cooperatives at the SM Weekend Market at SM City Calamba.

Local farmers showcase and sell their fresh harvest to shoppers at the SM Weekend Market, a platform by SM Supermalls that connects producers directly to consumers in high-traffic mall locations.

Shoppers enjoy direct access to farm-fresh produce at the SM Weekend Market where farmers are given dedicated selling spaces in select SM Supermalls.

Under the agreement, CDA will endorse qualified cooperatives nationwide to join the SM Weekend Market, while SM Supermalls will provide designated retail spaces in key mall locations for a minimal fee—covering only essential maintenance.

“The SM Weekend Market was born from a simple but impactful idea: to help farmers and cooperative producers reach more people, especially in spaces they rarely have access to,” said Engr. Eusebio. “Through this partnership with CDA, we’re opening more mall doors across the country, allowing communities to thrive and Filipino-made products to shine.”

This initiative officially kicks off a nationwide partnership between CDA and SM Supermalls, with more market rollouts and opportunities for cooperatives expected in the coming months.
