How to Spot an Authentic Aéropostale Shirt from a Fake One

There are limitless number of online sellers selling Aéropostale shirts nowadays. I have listed down some comparison and observation I made on how to spot the real ones from not.

1. The “é” on the Aéropostale should have an accent over it. The scripted “t” on some designs should be short not extended. The print does not look cheap either or something that can easily fade or threads almost coming out.

2. The cloth should be soft in texture and not rough.

3. The printed brand and other details on the neck side with the serial number that complements the rectangular patch found on the inside lower left part of the shirt.

4. If someone sells you an Aéropostale that is too cheap, then think twice and be more conscious. Overruns are not authentic; these are items which were not able to pass Quality Control Inspection, which is a MUST, especially when you are talking about branded items, which sell for much higher prices in the stores. I just hate it when some people claim overruns as authentic. Let's just put it this way, what would you feel if you have been buying authentic Burberry, Prada or Louis Vuitton and someone with an overrun said she got an authentic one too? Besides, you maybe paying half the price of the authentic one but the quality of the material used will end up you getting a new shirt sooner.

5. I am not sure on this one, but I buy Aéropostale items directly from the outlet store and the brand tags indicate “Made in Guatemala” or “Made in Honduras".

Fourth of July Madness

Hi darlings! So how did you celebrate the 4th of July yesterday? I bet you had a blast too just like me. We went to the frog pond up North and brought our tents and met up some good friends of my husband.

The first part of the day after setting up our tents, husband and friends went shooting at a few exploding targets.

The last part of the day, Husband and his friend Robin, light up some fireworks while me and the rest enjoyed watching it from the camp. I had to hurry though because I forgot to charge my camera. Lucky, I was still able to get a good shot out of it.
All in all, we all enjoyed we got to get out of the city and be with nature. Despite the scorching heat in the afternoon and getting ourselves wet from the storm that hit the camp last night, it was all worth it.

There is no better way to beat the scorching summer heat than a day in the pool. I lived in the southern part of the Philippines before I got here but I hate to admit it I don't know how to swim. I am not patient and brave enough to allow myself to be under these waters. I can't hold my breath that long. I don't know how to keep myself afloat neither. All I can do is some few kicks when using the floaters or stay in the water while seeing other people swim. Thanks to my sunblock, my bottled water and my shades I can already stay comfortable all summer long. So how are you coping the summer heat?

What Makes a Filipina Unique & Special

It's been six months since I got here in the USA. I have made some personal observations and that includes comparing myself to the people in general here. These observations might not be applicable to all.

1. My husband finds it amazing that I can pick things up with my feet specifically with my toes. I have a small feet, but I am still adept at picking stuff up with them or I just have pretty good amount of control that I can easily curl or fan them.

2. This next mannerism that I want to stop is when I pout and point with my lips. Every time I do this, I will leave them wondering as to what I really want them to do. I just find it easier to purse my lips especially when it takes time for my mind to describe the object or person. Husband jokingly warned me not to do this in public because they might think I am asking for a kiss.

3. I don't know how to stop making "sitsit" or "psst". It's kinda hard especially when we grew up doing this. For me, it's the fastest good attention seeking speech.Oh by the way, I still say "aray" when I get hurt.

4. Our country is surrounded by seas and oceans, but only a few knows how to swim. I really envy those little kids whom my husband calls the " Sea Diving Gypsies" or in our term the Badjaos and Samals who live in houses that stands on stilts over the water beside the sea . They can dive without any diving equipment.

5. I still cannot stand not having a rice in my meal. Its just that every time I skip the rice and eat the American food, my tummy starts to complain. I tried explaining that what they have for lunch or dinner like hamburger, pizza, taco or hotdog are just our snack food in the Philippines. I am just lucky that my husband is not a picky eater. He is flexible to both Filipino and American food. I am also a fruit eater.

6. We eat with a spoon and fork, while they can comfortably eat with only a fork. We can also eat with our hands or with one foot up the chair.

7. I am still super "matampuhin" (sulky, sensitive). Hubby will have to study more on this Filipina trait, he tends to become easily impatient. I believe our husbands should understand that sometimes we are just longing for some sweetness in the relationship. They don't really know how hard it is to be living in a foreign land with nobody except for your partner. It is healthy to be "matampuhin" sometimes, but not too much.

8. We are always proud of our man. No matter what his weaknesses or shortcomings might be, still we can say to the whole world how lucky we are to have such an amazing person to spend the rest of our lives with. We easily forgive and forget.

9. Since I am not employed yet, hubby finds it cute that I always look at him first before grabbing an item that I want into the shopping cart as if I am seeking for approval. I guess I am just a considerate type of person before making my husband spend on something for me I make sure that he has extra for these not so basic needs. It is usually girl stuff but he would always say that he would buy anything for me if he can afford it. Sweet!

10. We Pinays are conscious of how we look. We are not contented with only looking at the mirror inside the bathroom before leaving, we still look at mirrors inside of the car. Hey, we don't just want to look ugly. We like to idolize celebrities or famous people and somehow would copy how they do their hairstyles, make-up or even how they dress up. They say we always check the labels of the clothes to see where it is made from. We don't want to get burn from staying under the sun. It's easy for White Americans to be laying all day and sunbathing because they can go back to their original color in no time, while we Pinays it took even a long time to achieve this color we have now, not to mention all the skin whitening products we used when we were still in the Philippines.

11. We like cooking. I am no chef but I am proud to say that my husband and family loves my cooking. I sometimes look up for simple recipes then as soon as I have the ingredients I tried cooking or baking them. If I can, I usually make Filipino recipes for them. Believe it or not, it's only here that I can cooked decent meals. It's something I started love doing especially for people I love.

12. We are not difficult to please. One bar of Snickers can make me already smile or just even when hubby volunteers to help me with the chores.

It was the first Filipina gathering that me and my husband attended yesterday. We were both excited, Me about meeting Pinays who live here in Michigan and the chance to speak my native tongue again. Hehehe! And for Hubby, the excitement of being able to taste new and different pinoy recipes.

We got there early, but I really wanted to because I was still going to fry the food I was bringing. I met the hostess, Rhea. She was so nice and very attentive to her guests. Then I met other Pinay friends for the first time. We were being goofy the whole time. We talked like we have known each other for decades. I'm glad I met wonderful people yesterday.

I can't wait for the next gathering. Event like this reduces my homesickness.

Lumpiang Shanghai (Pork Spring Rolls)

This is my version of this famous Filipino recipe. So I hope you like it!

Lumpiang Shanghai (Pork Spring Rolls) :

Ingredients:

2 lbs ground pork
1/2 cup green onions (optional)
1 cup carrots, chopped or grated
1 cup onion
few cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tsp soy sauce
1 raw egg
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground black pepper
Lumpia wrapper (Spring roll wrapper)

Cooking Procedure:

Mix all the ingredients, except the wrappers, to make the filling. Adjust seasonings according to taste. If the filling tastes right, make the spring rolls by wrapping the meat using the lumpia wrapper. Fry the wrapped meat making sure that all the sides are cooked right. . Serve at once with sweet-sour sauce or sweet-chili sauce.

Last weekend, we went shooting again with hubby and my stepson Alex. I was so excited because that time I already printed out some targets I can shoot on. I was able to shoot using the Glock 9mm, AK47 and the AK22. AK47 was so loud it got me scared though. Haha! Anyways, here are two videos that they took.

Oh by the way, I ended up shooting all the soil, like tilling the soil for gardening. Lol!

Strawberry Cake Roll

I made this Strawberry Cake Roll today after I was craving for some dessert right after lunch. This is a budget-friendly and easy to make recipe.

Ingredients:
3 medium eggs
2/3 cup (85g) caster sugar (I used finely granulated sugar)
2 drops vanilla extract (optional)
2/3 cup (85g) self-rising flour, well-sifted
1/3 cup strawberry jam
and additional sugar for rolling

1. Grease a standard size baking tray with butter.Place a non-stick baking parchment paper on it and press on all the four sides.

2. Preheat the oven to 350F.

3. Whisk the eggs, sugar and vanilla until very light and fluffy.

4. Mix the flour slowly with the spoon.

5. Bake it for 12-15 mins until golden brown and fluffy and springy to touch.

6. Sprinkle powdered sugar on another parchment paper and put the hot cake on it.
7. Spread jam on it when it is hot and roll with the help of paper.
8. Allow it to cool for ¹/₂ an hour.
9.Sprinkle icing sugar/sugar, cut into slices and serve.

First Time in Lansing

We attended a baby shower last Saturday at Potterville. On the way there, I took some pictures but since the car is running too fast I was only able to get few good shots. I met new faces and was introduce to hubby's relatives, mother side. After the party, we visited Dad (hubby's dad) at the hospital. He was happy to see us. We spend an hour or two then we headed to see the State Capitol. Hubby said he was never been there for quite some time now. I kept on asking him if we are not lost. It was getting late already so the plan to park and walk the city did not push through. He promise to bring me there again. I hope he won't forget.

Passing the Written Driving Test

Yay! I made it! I passed the Permit Test in one take. It consisted of 30 items multiple choice and 10 items road signs. I am only allowed to make more than 10 mistakes, I made 8. After checking the paper, the lady asked me to read the items where I made the mistakes. Most of it were the first choices that made me change my mind and chose the other answer. I guess I have to rely more on my instincts. Hehe!
Anyway, In return I made a pointers to help others who are also first time drivers like me. Good luck! I will come back with my experience as soon after I hopefully pass the ROAD TEST...

I feel anxious. I will be taking the Learner's Permit Test on Friday so I can be behind the steering wheel. The permit is good for 6 months then I have to take the Actual Driving Test. I have not driven any vehicle in my life, except of course the bicycle. I am talking about motorized vehicles. I know I won't ever learn if I don't overcome my fears. Oh well wish me luck, I hope I don't run in to dairy cows.

I am married to a retired US Army (no wonder he loves guns!). It was my second week here and Larry wanted me to go with him and his friend to test some guns to see if which ones needed fixing. I was feeling a bit nervous and excited at the same time. Well, guess what? It wasn't hard at all. At first he taught me about proper safety precautions and to follow them always. I've learned to keep these in mind:

1. All guns are always loaded. ALWAYS assume a firearm is loaded and treat it so, even if the mag is empty and the chamber has been checked.

2.NEVER point a firearm in an unsafe direction, and do not point it at anything you are not intending to fire at when you are intending to fire at it.Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. Keep your gun pointed in a safe direction at all times: on the range, at home, loading, or unloading.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until your sights are on the target (and you are ready to shoot).

4. Be sure of your target. Know what it is, what is in line with it and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you haven't positively identified.

5. Wear ear plugs to protect your hearing.

6. Control your breathing and Relax!

Although this is a little too late, I am now here in the land of milk and honey, A late Happy New Year Greetings to all! Wow, I can't believe it has been that long since I last published a post on this blog. I was so busy with the visa processing and bonding with family and friends before leaving the Philippines.

Anyhow, life has been so good and even with the challenges life threw at me last year, I still managed to move on with the help of my family and friends. I am now in my new home here with my dear husband. I am looking forward for winter to be over so it gets warmer and I can start learning how to drive or do something outside with hubby. But for now, I devote myself to cooking dishes and baking desserts which I really wanted to do for so long now.

I know I am a horrible writer, I have about a 1000 posts queued up in my brain, but these things take forever to write, and now that I am still adjusting here, I don't have forever to waste.The good news here is, I really love sharing thoughts and I'm happy with what I've written so I will still be blogging again.

Well, I probably have to get back to writing , so I should let you go. Thank you for taking time to read my blog.

Literally speaking, a shoe is a commodity which takes care of the protection of our feet. Just as we wear dress to protect our body from harmful object as well as the environment, it is also very important to get ourselves equipped with shoes. Whenever we are at home, we can mange by staying bare foot. But once we got out of home, the road is not as polished or as clean as the floor of our home. Dust particles as well as many harmful objects can attack your feet. Also your feet can be needles with fine stone particles. Thus an individual should wear shoes.

Shoes can be of various types. In previous days we used to wear traditional shoes but today contemporary style is quite noticeable among the crowd. The types of shoes can also vary with regards to women wear, men’s wear as well as kids wear. It is just because, the types of shoes designed for men cannot be used by the females. The vice versa is applicable. Also the shoes can be categories into fashionable and simple. The fashionable as well as glittering shoes are made to wear on special occasions and party. But the simple and ethnic wears are design for daily use. Individuals who have to go out everyday have to be selective about their shoes. The shoe may or may not be very fashionable but should go with each and every dress. It Is true for both male and female population. People should also keep in mind about certain facts and figures while they are visiting market to buy a shoe. They should get a branded shoe with authenticity.
