Just like humans have allergies that cause them to feel itchy, so do dogs. Dog allergies are a most likely cause if your dog is itching all year long and does not have fleas. There are other causes as to what causes an allergic reaction in your dog:

Try another type of dog food that has a different source of protein. Try this for a period of six weeks to see if there is any difference in the itching.

Mold

If you live in a humid climate and have an unventilated kitchen and bathroom, you may have mold spores in the house. Mold spores can cause a dog to itch. If the basement gets flooded, you can get black mold that can make everyone in the house very sick, including pets. There are many different types of mold that can grow in the house. You should try to avoid having mold in the house by keeping the humidity at a low level, fixing any leaks and using exhaust fans in the kitchen and the bathroom. Be sure to clean out dust and mildew in the bathrooms and other areas of the house.

Other Animals

Do you have a cat? Your dog may be allergic to your cat. Just as many people are allergic to cats, so are dogs. This is especially true if the cat is male and long haired. If you find that your dog is allergic to the cat and has reactions around her, you can use products that are made for cat allergies to bathe the cat on a regular basis. Cats do not like getting bathed, but this routine can provide relief not only for your dog, but others in the house as well.

Could It Be You?

If could be you! Yes, our skin flakes off and is an allergen. A great deal of dogs are allergic to humans. If this is the case, you can see if your vet will give your dog canine allergy shots. This can help him build up an immunity to your allergens.

If your dog is scratching and itching all of the time and the culprit is not fleas or dust mites, it may be you, other animals in the house, mold or his food. You should make sure that there are no underlying problems such as mites before you start to treat your dog for allergies. As is the case with humans, many dogs will outgrow their initial allergic reaction once they have been exposed to it repeatedly. Problems such as mold, however, should be addressed immediately, not only for the safety of your dog, but also for the safety of the family.

About Author Geoffrey English :

http://www.gundogsonline.com

Article Source: http://www.BharatBhasha.com

Article Url: http://www.bharatbhasha.com/pets.php/138662

A Guide For New Pet Owners

see more dog and puppy pictures
Story by:<a href="http://www.blogger.com/%20com=" profile="" echols="" 53647="">Becky Echols

Are you adopting a pet for the first time? In order to do that, you need to know the characteristics and temperament of the breed you're thinking about adopting or purchasing before you do so. The English Bulldog is just one breed among many from which to choose.

History/Background: The English Bulldog descended from the ancient Asiatic mastiff and was brought to Europe by nomads. It was bred for bull baiting in the early 13th century. The name "bulldog" (medieval in origin) refers to the robust look of a little bull and also the power with which this dog attacked bulls in arena combat before that practice was outlawed in the 19th century. The last of the working bulldogs in England were crossed with Pug dogs to create the English Bulldog. This breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1935.

Physical Characteristics: The English Bulldog has a short but wide, compact and muscular body with stocky legs and a short tail. The head is broad, with dense skin folds on the skull and forehead, and the cheeks extend to the sides of the eyes. The muzzle is short and sometimes dark, with a broad black nose and large nostrils. The upper lip is pendant and the lower jaw undershot. The eyes are very round, far apart and dark. The small, thin ears are folded back in the form of a rose. The coat is short and smooth, and the color can be red, fawn, brindle, pale yellow, washed-out red, white or any combination of these colors. The English Bulldog's height is about 12 to 16 inches, and weight is 49 to 55 pounds.

Personality/Temperament: The English Bulldog, in contrast to its aggressive and fighting ancestors, is gentle and very affectionate. It typically does not beg for attention but seeks for it, and lots of human attention is required for its happiness. It is content to lie peacefully at its owner's feet or just to be in the same room with its owner. It is sensitive to its owner's moods. This breed makes a good companion and is good with children and the elderly and also with family pets.

Although known for its courage and excellent guarding abilities, an English Bulldog does not necessarily make a good watch dog. It usually only barks when there is really a reason or sometimes if furniture has been moved or there is something new in the house. This breed of dog can be bullheaded and determined and does not give up easily. It can be dominating and needs an owner who displays strong leadership.

A young English Bulldog will be full of energy but will slow down as it gets older. Although it appears lazy, this is not really the case. It doesn't jump at every command but evaluates the command against its own priority setting to decide whether to obey the command and with what urgency. This breed snores very loudly and tends to slobber and drool. It rarely whines or complains.

Possible Health Conditions: Some of the health conditions that plague this breed of dog include breathing problems, poor eyesight, susceptibility to heat stroke in warm weather or hot rooms or cars, sensitivity to cold, skin infections and hip and knee problems. This breed also has an active digestive system. Puppies are often delivered by cesarean section because of the broad head. The life expectancy for this breed averages 8 years.

Exercise/Grooming: English Bulldogs need daily short walks but are not tolerant of excessive exercise. Some adult bulldogs would rather not exercise while others are full of energy. Grooming is fairly easy and consists of combing or brushing with a firm bristle brush and bathing only when necessary. The face should be wiped with a damp cloth every day to clean inside the wrinkles. This breed is an average shedder.

Living Conditions: This breed of dog is good for apartment life, is inactive indoors and does okay without a yard. It chills easily in cold weather and has trouble cooling off in very hot weather. It should be kept indoors.

Summary: The English Bulldog needs lots of human attention and strong human leadership, is very good with children and the elderly, makes a good companion and is relatively easy to groom but doesn't typically have a lot of energy and has a shorter life expectancy than most breeds. If you are looking for these characteristics and traits in a dog and are able to fulfill its needs, then perhaps an English Bulldog is the right breed for you.

About the author:
Anita Funkhouser is the owner of http://www.gogreendogbeds.com, offering high-quality, eco-friendly dog beds, toys and sweaters made from recycled materials, and http://pickofthelitterblog.wordpress.com/, a blog about various breeds of dogs.
Article Source: http://www.Free-Articles-Zone.com

see more dog and puppy pictures

Domestic Cat Breeds – The Persian, Siamese and Manx Breed

Story by: Cristian Stan

Do you want to own a cat but you don't know which breed makes for the best pet? Or, do you want to own a cat but you have no idea what to do with it? You can find all the information you need by searching online, including what breed will work best with your own personality.

One of the things you need to consider is if you want an outdoor or indoor cat. Outdoor cats are those that are smarter and tougher, something they need so they can survive. If the cat is small, you should keep it inside the house, so it doesn't become food for wild animals or big birds. If you own a tomcat, it's a great breed that survives well in the outdoors.

Photo by Petzclubz : Apple Head Siamese cat

The Siamese: Siamese cats are a fickle breed, that will ask for your attention and you need to give it to them. They make plenty of noise and if you leave them on their own for long periods of time, they will tear up everything around them. While those are the downsides to owning a Siamese cat, it doesn't mean that they can't be great to own. This is especially true when you raise them from infancy.

In most cases, Siamese cats will have blue eyes and brown ears. You probably saw this breed if you've seen the movie "Lady and the Tramp". But, the cats in the movie were mean, not the usual type of a Siamese cat. In most cases, Siamese cats are an affectionate breed that likes people. When they ask for attention from their master, they will meow a lot, just like babies do when they cry.

Photo from yourpersiancats.com

The Persian Cat: this breed has been around for a very long time. Their coat is shinny and beautiful, with long hair. The good part about them is that they are friendly and soft, but they also have a chance of getting allergies or other health problems. When there are people around it will enjoy playing, but in most cases it's not a very playful race. They also enjoy beeing around other cats and will play with them. There are a lot of colours that might find their way on a cats fur, like white, brown, black or a mix of different colors. The Himalayan is a popular breed of Persian cats.

The Manx Breed: some of the things people know about this cat is that it lacks the tail or it has a stubby one. That's the downside of this breed of cats. In some cases the manx will have different parasites or worms, because it's not protected by the tail and it's not cleaned properly.

Still, the Manx is a good breed, so you shouldn't avoid it completely. These cats are quite playful and clever and they can even fetch things, just like a dog does when you play with him. They do love human company though, so they need them around. If you leave the house for longer periods of time you should probably have another cat to play with the Manx, because they dislike being alone. If there are children in the house, then it's the perfect environment for them.

What you read above is just three of the types of cat breeds that you can choose from. There are many more cat breeds available to you, and you can choose the one that fits your way of life best. While most cats are intelligent and social, some of them are more of the loner type. In most cases, the cat is the one that decides when she needs attention, not the master.

About the author:

PetCareGuide.Org – pet care articles and tips. If you'd like to have your dog sit and stay when told to, then you need to understand how to apply positive reinforcement in your training methods for the most effective and quickest results.

First of all, make sure that your dog understands a "release" command first so they know when it's OK to move from the "stay" position. This command can be whatever you wish, but it's got to be something that you've used consistently with your dog so they will recognize it.

Now, have your dog sit or lie down in front of you and place your hand, palm open, in front of your dog's nose and give the command "Stay."

Next, say "Good Boy/Girl" at the precise moment that your dog shows the behavior you want, in this case sitting still and staying there.

Now give the release command immediately after (within a couple of seconds), followed by treats and lots of praise.

It doesn't matter at this stage how long your dog stays there for; you should always reward even the smallest results, even if they only stay for a second or two.

From here, you can lengthen the amount of time your dog remains in the stay position very gradually, and slowly move farther away. They will soon learn what sort of actions result in rewards and they will learn to follow your commands in order to get the treat, now and in the future.

Eventually, your dog will instinctively follow commands without wanting or expecting the treat, and at which point you've developed another discipline into your dog's behavior which will allow you to take better control in all situations, both for safety benefits and for overall control.

Use this simple technique in 5-minute sessions and make sure you repeat the process once a day.

Article Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

If you'd like to know even more ways to train your dog to be well behaved, play safe and respect your every command, then visit the best dog training book today and see how anybody, including you and your dog, can learn to live in perfect harmony without frustrating and aggressive episodes of bad dog behavior.

What Exactly is a Siamese Cat.

Photo by Xiahuanet: Wedge Head Siamese cat

Photo by Petzclubz : Apple Head Siamese cat

Siamese cats were originally from Siam and have gained popularity in the past one hundred years or so as house pets. They were typically bred only for the wealthy, but these days anyone who wishes to can own a Siamese cat can do so with ease.

For those who are not familiar with the Siamese cat breeds, there may be some confusion when choosing these types of cats as a pet. Most people do not even know that there are sub types in the category of Siamese cats. While most Siamese cats will be light tan in color with darker brown points on their ears, tail and legs, they will also have a darker mask around their eyes, which are always blue. There are some rarer types that will have a more blue tint to the darker brown coloring. All Siamese cats have hind legs that are longer than their front legs are.

They are different from typical house cats in that they can not sheathe their back claws. There are two main types of Siamese cats that you can own, the first is called an Apple Head Siamese cat and the other is called a Wedge Head Siamese cat.

How to Differentiate Between the Apple Head Siamese and Wedge Head Siamese Cats. There are two basic types of Siamese cats; the classic, which is also know as an apple head, and the extreme type which is known as a wedge head Siamese cat.

The Apple Head Siamese Cats

The Apple Head or classic Siamese cat will be a sturdy cat which is larger and has a fuller body than the Wedge Head. This type of Siamese cat will be larger than the Wedge Head as well and will have brilliant blue eyes. Many feel that the Apple Head is more like the Siamese cats of old in that these properties were bred out of the Wedge Head Siamese cats.

The Wedge Head Siamese Cats

The Wedge Head Siamese cat is much thinner than the Apple Head is and has a more tapered or pointed face. This type of Siamese cat is typically what you will see at cat shows and are bred mostly for this purpose. Their eyes have more of slant to them and are the shape of almonds. The ears are much bigger than the Apple Head Siamese cat have.

Pros and Cons to Owning a Siamese Cat

Pros

Siamese cats of any type are typically very playful cats. They are highly intelligent and make great pets. They can be taught many of the same “tricks” that you can teach a dog. I have a friend whose Siamese cat will fetch, rollover, sit and lay down to hand commands. They do not require much grooming as they have short coats, which makes them a good pet for those who are allergic to long haired breeds.

You will still need to brush them to keep them looking nice, and not mention that brushing your cat will help build a bond between you. When you get a Siamese cat, you want to play with it as much as possible as they are very social animals and will revel in your time with them. These cats have garnered a reputation for being stand offish, but the opposite is true; Siamese cats are actually quite affectionate and love attention.

Cons

While these are very playful cats, they can also be big climbers, if you have areas where you do not want your cat to climb, you may want to keep them out of that room as you may find that your Siamese cat has climbed there just because they can. You may want to get a nice scratching post that has towers on it for them to climb instead.

Siamese cats are very vocal and will chatter with you when they are feeling anything at all. If you are looking for a quiet cat, the Siamese may not fit your needs. You will need to be careful when you purchase a Siamese cat as there are many breeders who are not legitimate and you may end up with a cat that has been inbred to the point that they are no longer fit for pets.
About Author Susan Miler :

Susan Miler is a cat enthusiast who writes for Siamese Cat World, a website dedicated to Siamese cats. A pet will become a member of your family and not just a fixture in your home. Pets are not meant to come and go, but to remain as part of your home for years to come. Unfortunately for some, pets are disposable items that will be moved if they are an inconvenience. This should be avoided since unstable homes can make unstable pets.

A checklist for pet care can be an essential tool when you first bring home your new pet. For many people, a new pet is their first experience at being a full-time pet parent, and for those this list will be most useful. Preparing yourself, your home, and your pet for those first few months in a new environment will make the change go gracefully and help everyone adjust easily.

1. The first thing you want to be sure of is that your pet has all of their vaccinations up to date. It is important that your new pet is protected from such outside irritants as fleas, tics, ringworm, or many other ailments such as distemper or rabies. The health of your pet is one of the most important aspects of ongoing care. Wellness exams each year are important for your pet. A veterinarian will perform a thorough exam on your pet looking at such things as their vital signs, ears, eyes, mouth, the heart and lungs, as well as the reproductive organs and their skin. This step is a very important preventative measure for your pet each year.

2. Getting your home ready for your new pet can be a big task, but one that is essential for the big day that your new friend comes home. If it is a small caged animal, a small space that is quiet is fine for them to be used to their surroundings. You will not want to take your new friend out just yet, but let them get used to the sounds and smells of their new home before you start introducing them outside of their immediate surroundings. If it is a larger, self-sufficient animal such as a cat or dog, you will want to make sure that they have their own space, a blanket or pet bed for retreating to, out of the way in case they are too overwhelmed at the beginning.

3. Regular physical routine is essential for any pet. This is their exercise routine since they are not like us and do activity regularly without the help of us. Larger pets such as dogs must be walked every day, smaller animals like cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, and birds can be trained to play with anyone in the family. Toys such as balls, bells, tubes, or even apparatuses are useful in helping your pet achieve physical activity during the day while you are away or even you interacting with them while they are exploring.

If you follow some simple guidelines, your new pet is sure to adapt to his new family in no time at all. But with much policy options and several insurance companies offering coverage, the assortment procedure can turn out to be a bit overwhelming.

Pet Insurance companies like Veterinary Pet Insurance, Inc. (also known as VPI) or the ASPCA's Insurance Company, offer reasonably priced insurance policy premiums for cats, dogs, birds, exotics and other pets. VPI puts forward a selection of coverage options, allowing pet owners to manage to pay for care and measures that they may otherwise have to miss out on. Pet owners can decide on from an assortment of insurance coverage options, counting the subsequent:

1. Routine care coverage: This variety of coverage will cover a major part of routine pet care, such as immunization and yearly examinations. This form of policy is normally the slightest pricey, despite the fact that owners ought to make certain that the price tag of the veterinary insurance policy premium does not go beyond the usual routine pet care expenses.

2. Basic coverage for specialized care and procedures: Basic care policy will cover the overheads of examinations and procedure that drop outside the extent of routine care. So an arrangement of this variety will not cover vaccines or yearly examinations, nevertheless it will cover portion of the costs connected with diagnostic testing, visits to veterinary specialists, operations and other procedures.

3. Premium coverage for specialized care and procedures: These higher care plans on average offer coverage for the similar procedures and testing as the basic care plans, despite the fact that the recompense level is higher. The premium is also faintly higher to pay compensation for the greater proportion of reparation.

4. All -inclusive coverage: An all-inclusive coverage pet insurance policy normally covers routine care and specific care like diagnostic testing, visits to veterinarian specialists and remedial procedures. All-inclusive veterinary pet insurance policies are naturally the priciest. Regrettably, the immense preponderance of veterinary insurance companies does not disburse for procedures and additional care up-front. The pet owner characteristically has to pay the vet bill up-front, and the cash is then reimbursed in a week or two of the claim form submission. But in cases where it's a matter of life or death, a lot of vets will agree to the pet owner to pay just a fraction of the bill, allowing the pet parent to make preparations for the insurance settlement check to be sent straightforwardly to the clinic, in that way clearing what's left of the balance. There is also typically a two-week wait before pet coverage becomes effective, so when purchasing a veterinary pet insurance, pet owners should be sure to in quire about the wait period before the policy goes into effect.

There is no question about the need of the pet health insurance. More than its disadvantages, it offers more benefits not only for the pet but also for its owner. However, no matter how important pet health insurance are, owners should not jump into getting one without conducting enough research.

Researching about pet health insurance will not only ensure that you will get the best healthcare for your pet but can also help you save up some money to attend to other needs of the pet.

About the Author
Learn about fish facts and mouse facts at the About Animals site.

Singapura Cat and Kitten Information

Photo taken from Wikipedia
By: Mitch Endick

The Singapura cat is a small, well built cat that can take up to 2 years to reach full maturity. The eyes are characteristically large and are typically yellow, hazel or green in color. The coat of Singapura is short, fine and silky to the touch. Colors can range from light beige to dark brown. Males weigh in at about 6 to 8 pounds and females from 5 to 6 pounds. It can take as long as 2 years for the Singapura to fully mature.

The Singapura will show a curious interest in most everything you do and will try to help out. These unique cats are affectionate, alert and their intelligence is obvious in their behavior.

Brief History of the Singapura Cat

The Singapura comes from Singapore and is the Malaysian name for this island. Hal and Tommy Meadow brought this breed to the United States in the 1970s. By 1982, the Singapura was recognized as breed by most registries and clubs. The Cat Fanciers Association recognized the Singapura for show competition in 1988.

The ancestor of all domestic cats is the African Wildcat, the genus Felis Lybica. This genus is comprised of smaller cats. Cats are thought to have been domesticated with the advent of farming and the storage of grain. The grain attracted rats and other vermin which naturally attracted wild cats. As time evolved, certain of these cats were domesticated for the mutual benefit of both cat and man. The African Wildcat has certain features which is obvious in the housecat of today.

Feline Health Considerations

Cats who reside in the house should generally visit the veterinarian yearly, unless health problems are evident. Cats who enjoy the outdoors may need to see the vet as many as four times a year. When you take your cat to the vet, be sure to bring along a fresh stool sample so the vet can do a fecal exam to check for internal parasites such as tapeworm, round worm, whip worms and hook worms. The vet will also check for external parasites such as fleas, ticks and ear mites.

Any vet check should include a dental examination and a cleaning if necessary. Cats who are eight years of age or older are considered geriatric and additional blood and urine tests may be necessary to screen for any health problems. At about six months of age, the kitten should also be examined for sexual maturity and decisions about birth control should be made.

Behavioral Traits

Their voice is quiet
Active and playful

Singapura Cat Registries and Clubs

Singapura Cat Club
United Singapura Society
Cat Fanciers Association CFA
International Cat Association TICA
The Traditional Cat Association TCA
Canadian Cat Association CCA
The Australian Cat Federation
The American Association of Cat Enthusiasts AACE
American Cat Fanciers Association ACFA
United Feline Organization UFO
Cats United International

Kitten Care

Kittens are generally available and the price depends upon bloodlines color and markings. Unlike puppies, kittens should not be separated from their mother until twelve to sixteen weeks of age. Some very important developmental stages occur during this period including emotional, mental and health. Curtailing this development may lead to any number of medical and behavioral problems.

Kittens that are separated from their mother at too young an age often fail to gain weight fast enough, have immune system problems because they have not had enough mothers milk. The may also develop eating and eliminating problems, and can have problems socializing with other cats and with people.

Every cat and kitten is an individual so not everything in this information may be correct for your cat or kitten. Has your vet diagnosed him with idiopathic cystitis in cats? Have you wondered if cat stress has something to do with the recurring episodes of FLUTD? Read on for answers to your questions.

What Is Feline Idiopathic Cystitis?

Your cat shows all the symptoms of cystitis in cats. He strains to urinate, but doesn't pass much urine. His urine may be bloody. He's obviously in pain when he's using the litter box. And he may be urinating in places other than his litter box.

But when your vet examines him and runs a urinalysis and a urine culture, there's no sign of a bladder infection. There's no bacteria in his urine, and bladder stones, tumors, and even an anatomical defect have all been ruled out.

Feline idiopathic cystitis is the diagnosis when there doesn't seem to be any reason for feline urinary problems. It's very difficult to watch your cat suffer with FLUTD symptoms when there doesn't appear to be any reason for these cat urinary problems. The worst thing is that this condition is becoming more common in cats as time goes on.

Is Cat Stress Related To Idiopathic Cystitis In Cats?

Research is showing that this condition in cats is very similar to interstitial cystitis in people. In both cats and people, some sort of stressful event often happens just before the cat or person suffers another bout of cystitis.

Sometimes we don't realize how much stress our cats face. It may be hard to believe, but being an indoor cat is stressful for felines. We keep them inside for their own safety, but this is an unnatural environment for felines. They do like to prowl around, especially at night. Hunting for food provides lots of exercise that keeps them in shape.

We also feed them the wrong type of diet, which is another stressor. Most dry cat foods are made mostly from corn, which is very high in carbohydrates. Too much of the wrong type of food leads to obesity, feline diabetes, and other health issues.

Something that many cat owners don't consider is that the moisture level in dry cat food is extremely low. Cats are meant to get most of their water from their diet, which should be mostly meat-based. A cat who is always fed dry food is more than likely chronically dehydrated. Even if a cat who is fed dry food does drink water, it's hard for him to drink enough.

The problem with a dehydrated cat is that water doesn't pass through his body often enough to flush out toxins. His urine is also concentrated. Urine is caustic, and if it's too concentrated, it can irritate the bladder, which leads to cystitis. Concentrated urine also has high mineral levels, which can result in cat bladder stones, and urinary blockage in cats.

This type of stress is low-level, but it can lead to problems over time.

Your cat may be facing other types of stress. Cats are very set in their ways, and any kind of change can be upsetting for them. Moving to a new home, remodeling, adding another person or pet to the household, even a change in the weather, can all be stressful for your cat. Your cat may be having problems with another cat in the home, too, especially if the other pet is more aggressive and seems to bother him a lot.

Reducing Cat Stress

It's been shown that reducing stress in cats does reduce the frequency of cystitis in cats. Dogs suffer from both internal and external parasites. Out of all the parasites that affect dogs hugely, the tapeworm and the roundworm are the two most troublesome ones.

Tapeworms occur in dogs of all ages although the older dogs are more likely to get attacked by tapeworms than the younger puppies. The life cycle of the tape worm is dependent on two hosts, namely, the dog and the dog’s fleas.

So how will you understand whether your dog has tapeworm or not? There is one common way of getting to know about it. And that is noticing whether your dog is frequently licking its anal regions or not. If you see that your dog keeps on licking its anal regions all the time, chances are that he has tapeworms. Tapeworms look like tiny rice grains in feces and they can be easily spotted if your dog has them.

When you are sure that your dog has tapeworms, do not worry too much. This is not a major problem and can be easily cured. In fact, modern vets can suggest treatments for tapeworms which are really simple and do not even need fasting before the intake of the medicines. These treatments can help your dog stay healthy and without tapeworms. They are generally without any side effects but in some dogs, these medicines cause vomiting.

The tapeworm is something that generally affects adult dogs. The roundworm, however, is just the opposite. It is more common in puppies. The way in which puppies get roundworm is through fecal contamination. In fact, there are numerous puppies that are born with roundworms that get transferred to their body through the uterus of their mothers. These worms enter the unborn puppy’s body through the mother’s blood stream. They stay in an inactive state as long as they are in the mother’s tissues but as soon as they enter the puppy’s body, they get activated by the pregnancy hormones.

The only way to avoid roundworms in newborn puppies is to use a good and safe anthelmintic when the mother is pregnant. However, this medicine must be used in the early part of the pregnancy. Another thing that dog owners can do is to treat all the newborn puppies three to four days after birth and give them another dose of the de worming before they leave the kennel. No matter how many times the puppy has been de wormed prior to its coming to your house; you have to de worm it on a regular basis. De worming must be done regular, every three to four weeks until the puppy reaches the age of six months.

Once the puppy reaches adulthood, it builds up its own defenses. Usually, an adult dog does not require regular de worming sessions. However, as a responsible dog owner, you must keep on checking for roundworms regularly because they are not visible in the feces and they might attack the dog anytime.

In order to keep your dog healthy, it is best to give your dog proper de worming treatment every six months. This treatment keeps your dog healthy and happy and keeps you free from any anxiety related to worms.

About Author Kelly Marshall :

Article by Kelly Marshall of http://www.ohmydogsupplies.com Oh My Dog Supplies - where you can find http://www.ohmydogsupplies.com/dog-supplies/dog-clothes cute dog clothes in over 150 different styles

Article Source: http://www.BharatBhasha.com

Article Url: http://www.bharatbhasha.com/pets.php/113201

How to Tame Wild Kittens

more animals
By LeAnn R. Ralph

Over the past several years, the wild mother cat who has taken up residence in our barn in rural Wisconsin has given me many opportunities to figure out how to tame wild kittens. The mother cat always hides her kittens very well, and then, when they are big enough to leave the nest and are big enough to eat kitty food, she brings them out and expects me to feed them.

When the wild mother cat brings her kittens out of the nest, it is the first time in their lives they have seen a human being, and they tend to be hissing, spitting bits of fluff that really look as though they mean business. And since they already have teeth and claws, I would rather not push the issue. I also would rather not let them remain wild, living in my barn, having kittens of their own. Six kittens, within a year or two, could turn into 56.

As of early 2005, the wild mother cat has had more than 20 kittens in our barn, and I have managed to tame them and to find homes for most of them (unfortunately, several were lost when the wild momma kitty took them out to teach them how to hunt).

Here are some tips for taming wild kittens:

1. Buy some canned kitty food -- In my experience, kittens are always hungry and are always interested in canned kitty food. I have noticed it doesn't matter what brand, just so long as it has fish in it. The smell of fish seems irresistible to kittens.

2. Let the kittens smell the canned kitty food -- Open the can and then try to get as close to them as possible so they can smell the food. Once they get a whiff of it, and this is especially true of younger kittens that are anywhere from four weeks old to a few months old, they will be so interested in the canned kitty food they will forget (somewhat) that you are right next to them.

3. Use a fork (or spoon) to scoop out some of the food and let the kittens eat off the end of the fork (spoon) -- This is an important step. Do NOT put a forkful of food down and then back off. From the very first, hold the fork toward the kitten and let the kitten eat off the end of the fork. Stick to your guns and do not give up. If the kitten wants canned kitty food, the kitten MUST eat it off the end of the fork or the spoon. This is the first step in getting the kitten used to being close to you and in growing accustomed to your hand coming closer. This will be useful later on when you are trying to pet the kittens. After the kitten has eaten food off the end of the fork/spoon, THEN you can put a little food down for the kitten to eat on its own.

4. Repeat step 3 every time you offer the kittens some canned food -- At first, the kittens are going to be cautious about your hand coming toward them. The fork with the food will help to overcome that resistance. After you have done this a couple of times, the kittens will look forward to eating off the fork and will start to lose their fear of you and your hand.

5. Stay right there while the kittens are eating -- After you have put out some canned food for the kittens, stay there and don't move off. Let them eat with you next to them. This will help teach them to associate human beings with "good things."

6. Carefully start to pet the kittens -- After feeding them a couple of times without trying to pet them, which will begin to teach them that they can trust you, put food out and let the kittens start to eat. Then slowly reach down and pet them a little bit. Continue to sit there while they finish eating.

7. Carefully start to pick up the kittens -- After you can successfully put out food and remain there while the kittens eat and can pet them a little bit, try picking up a kitten. If you can, grasp the kitten by the scruff of the neck. This is how mother cats carry their kittens, and when you do this, the kitten will go limp. Hold the kitten against your shoulder and talk softly to it, but don't say "Hi kitten" or anything starting with an "h" sound. To a kitten, this sounds like a cat hissing, and the kitten will become frightened. Hold the kitten for a minute or so and then, grasping it by the scruff of the neck, set it down. After you have done this several times, the kitten will realize that no harms come to it from being picked up and handled.

Depending upon the age of the kittens and basic personality traits, the whole process, from starting with canned kitty food on the fork to being able to pet them and pick them up, could be accomplished in a few days or it might take a few weeks. Eventually, the kittens will know that people mean good things, and when they see you coming, they will come running to meet you. It has been my experience that cats quickly recognize when a situation is to their advantage, and once the kittens know you are a source of good things to eat and that you mean them no harm, they will want to be friends.

About Author LeAnn R. All grooming needs quality combs, brushes and clippers that can be found at all pet supplies stores.

If you take your pet to a professional dog grooming service center then it can sometimes be expensive. It is not something that cannot be done at home i.e., it is possible only if you have the time and the equipment. The first and the foremost thing is that you need to be extremely patient with your dog during the dog grooming session and don’t forget to reward him once it is over so that you don’t face any problems the next time around.

The second important thing is buying the right pet supplies to enable grooming at home. The different types of pet supplies that you will need for grooming includes:

• Bathing accessories: This will mostly include hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner and towels

• Clippers: This will consist of pet grooming tools like turbo clippers, clipper kits, combs, trimmers etc.

• Others: This can include an array of pet grooming tools like nail grinders, FUrminator de-shedding tools, Styptic powder, Matbreaker dematting tool, dematting combs, dematting rake, flea comb, area slicker brushes, undercoat rake, etc.

Dog grooming is important for all pets but more for dogs and cats with a lot of hair. Dogs like German Shepherds have double coat and experience a lot of hair fall and hence should be groomed regularly. Some of the important parts of the body that need to be cleaned and groomed include the skin and ears and it is a must to clip the nails for cats and dogs.

Cleaning the ears of dogs is an integral part of dog grooming because of the fact that they get a lot of infections through their ears. Dogs with droopy ears are highly susceptible to different types of ear problems and infections caused by ear mites, waxy ears, and fungus. You need to check the ears of your dog once every week and clean them as well. Another important part of dog grooming is clipping nails and this is mostly done for dogs, as their nails can grow unusually big. Although they will never hurt you with their nails but are quite capable of scratching you while playing. You need to clip nails once every 3 weeks.

Let us consider some other pet supplies you may need:

• Treats: some dogs don’t like having a bath or being clipped, sometimes it’s a good idea to have a treat to distract your dog.

• Dental toothpaste: this is an often-overlooked necessity when buying pet supplies. Dental problems in cats and dogs are one of the most expensive veterinarian costs during a pet’s life.

• Toys: a great hide bone or Kong toy is a great idea when buying pet supplies. Anything to distract a dog will always help, especially if they playful by nature.

The one thing that most pets hate and dogs even more is bathing. Except for the Retrievers almost all dogs hate taking a bath and cats will always shy away. But bathing is also an important part of dog grooming. Before you give your pet a nice bath, ensure that you have the necessary pet supplies like shampoo, conditioner etc.

Article Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

If you need further information on pet supplies including dog collars and dog beds visit our on line store. Dogs are regularly territorial and will combat not just new cats but other new dogs as well. They cultivate to celebrate their territory and will attack somebody who invades their span. Cats have the same tendencies and even if they are lesser than to dogs, they will abandon and fight for their territory.

Most pet lovers who have both a cat and dog have a hard time making their pets coexist with one another. The everyday reaction to this is separating the two pets and making surefire they won't encounter. This is not sincerely a workable emulsion to this snag as, both pets tend to wander around the house and there will come a time when they will collect. This would also trigger a lot of shattered time if you have to allocate twofold the time for playing with your pets. Another reaction would be to impound both pets but this practice is frowned ahead by most pet lovers. The best thing to do is to prepare the cat and dog to coexist peacefully. In this item is a chain of steps to sentence harmony between cats and dogs.

Perhaps the hardest thing for pet lovers to do is the introduction. Introducing a new pet requires both time and patience as, both cats and dogs requires time to adjust to something new. Both cats and dogs take up to 30 years to adjust. It is even longer if you have adult pet, but with modest retraining you can lecture your old dogs and cat's new tricks.

The first stride is agreement. This is vital especially for the dog which is mostly the provoker in this kind of spot. You have to tutor your dog to obey when you say "no." This could be done by viewing him some handle and every time he looks at it you say "no" you impede him from ingestion it. Do this every day and reward him every time he obeys.

While burden this with your dog, make reliable the cat and dog are solitary from one another, allowing your cat to wander around the house. Cats adoration to journey and this will make her trail scattered in your home. After burden this, link your cat in one room and let your dog wander around the house sniffing for the cat's sniff. This will make your dog acquainted to your cats smell and instruct the dog that the cat is part of the household.

Once you've done this for about a week, it's time for them to see one another physically. This part requires that you have somebody to help you. Have someone who can foothold your cat securely and that knows how to respond quickly and get your cat to shelter if the dog is showing aggressiveness. Your part is to be able to restrain your dog and making steady that if he starts lunging for your cat, you'll be there to prevent him.

Dogs mostly birth barking when they see some other animals in their territory, eager to scare them away. They won't actually pounce at something immediately. Once he starts barking, this is where the respect part starts to come in. Say "no" and make him reach that the cat is also a pet.

If your dog starts to calm down when in the aura of the cat, then it's the time to let him sniff the cat. Once your dog starts to choose not to bark at your cat you know that you've done the introduction part successfully.

The final movement is making effective that both pets have the time to coexist. This part is usually the cat's liability. Cats have the leaning to be remote and delay away from the dog and other people. It's not because they are scared of the dog but more because it's their life to be deserted. Be sure that your dog sees your cat as regularly as workable. You can allocate sometime nightly where you can do some activities with both your cat and dog. This will permit them to play with one another and you'll have the confidence that they won't gain fighting when they're unsupervised.

Article Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

Super Cat Urine Prevention Tips

more animals

Many times cat owners are at a loss as to why their cat doesn't use their litter box. Here are some great tips that can help you solve the problem.

The litter box is the first thing you should check. It should be in a quiet, private area of the house. Many people put them in their basements and leave the door open a little as this not only creates a private environment but also keeps odors to a minimum in the rest of the house.

Some use a closet but if you do this be sure and keep the box clean to reduce odors in such a confined space and don’t forget to leave the door open!

Another placement possibility is under a table. Many people find a place without carpeting is best from a maintenance point of view as tile or cement is a lot easier to clean.

Ask yourself if you changed the litter box in any way:

* Has the box been moved to a high traffic area recently?

* Does the box need cleaning?

* Is a new litter being used or does it have too heavy a scent (clumping and unscented is best).

* Has the depth of the litter in the box changed? Some cats like their litter deep, others shallow.

* Your cat has outgrown the box and needs a larger one.

* The box is too hard to enter and exit. This can be an issue for older cats.

Do not put food and water near the litter box. Cats like these two areas kept separate (don’t you?).

If your cat has picked out a particular room to soil try closing the door to that room if you can or cover the target area with furniture.

Put a bowl of food over the target area as cats like to keep their eating area away from their “bathroom”.

Take your cat to the Vet on a regular basis.

If you have more than one cat get each one of them their own litter box.

Have you recently moved? A cat might smell an area where the previous owner’s cat urinated.

Let the cat alone while it goes so it can have some privacy.

If it is a new cat in your home it could take from three to eight weeks to get adjusted to the new

environment. Be patient!

Was there a recent addition or loss to the family? A new baby, spouse? This is usually temporary until the cat adjusts to the change in their environment.

A change in your schedule can throw off your cat's schedule as well and cause problems. Try and phase in major lifestyle changes gradually.

NEVER EVER punish the cat by kicking, hitting, chasing, screaming or rubbing their nose in their urine (remember the smell doesn’t bother them). Cats cannot make the cause and effect connection like we can so punishment after the fact is useless and will only make matters worse.

Cats are naturally very clean animals and they know where they are going. It is important to remember this and try and help your cat overcome any stress or anxiety they might be having in a caring and loving manner.

About the author:

For expert advice on cat urine problems and solutions visit www.cat-urine-remover.com

Article Source: http://www.Free-Articles-Zone.com

The Right Toys for your Cat

more animals

By: Scribbler

The first thing you do when you get a kitten home is provide him with love, shelter and then search for cat names so that you can call her by her name. Makes it more personal!

Content: The first thing you do when you get a kitten home is provide him with love, shelter and then search for cat names so that you can call her by her name. Makes it more personal!

Once the cat names ceremony is over, you need to initiate a basic training so that your cat starts responding to your commands. Most of the training will require you to offer your cat with treats, cat food and cat toys. Every cat has his/her toys so why should your cat be any different!

Although cats generally have different play styles than their canine counterparts, cat toys are as much a necessity for cats as they are for dogs. Cat toys help fight boredom and give cats an outlet for their instinctive prey-chasing behaviors. When you are the one moving the toy around while your cat fishes for it, chases after it, or jumps in pursuit of it, playtime becomes a bonding experience for you and your cat.

Your cat is innately curious and naturally playful. She will play with you, another cat, or even a puppy. Toys serve many useful purposes for your cat, keeping her fit both physically and mentally. Without toys your cat will become bored and she will find potentially destructive ways to entertain herself.

Cats love to play ball and they can do it inside your home without knocking down your precious Sicilian vase or Georgian lamp. There are certain factors that may contribute to the safety of the cat toys they're batting with. Many of those factors are completely dependent upon the cat's size, activity level, and preferences. Another important factor to be considered is the environment in which your cat spends her time. Although you can't guarantee the enthusiasm of your cat or her safety with cat toys, here are some guidelines that can be followed:

Be Cautious: The things that are usually the most attractive to cats are often the very things that are the most dangerous. Cat-proof your home by removing string, ribbon, yarn, rubber bands, plastic milk jug rings, paper clips, pins, needles, dental floss, and anything else that could be ingested. All of these items are dangerous, no matter how cute your cat may appear when she's playing with them.

Avoid or alter any cat toys that are not "cat-proof" by removing ribbons, feathers, strings, eyes, or other small parts that could be chewed and ingested. Soft cat toys should be machine washable. Look for stuffed cat toys that are labeled as safe for children under three years of age and that don't contain any dangerous fillings. Problem fillings include things like nutshells and polystyrene beads.

Recommended cat toys

1. Round plastic shower curtain rings, which are fun either as a single ring to bat around, hide, or carry, or when linked together and hung in an enticing spot.
2. Plastic balls, with or without bells inside.
3. Ping-Pong balls and plastic practice golf balls with holes, to help cats carry them.
4. Paper bags with any handles removed. Paper bags are good for pouncing, hiding, and interactive play. Plastic bags are not a good idea, as many cats like to chew and ingest the plastic.
5. Sisal-wrapped toys, which are very attractive to cats who tend to ignore soft toys.
6. Empty cardboard tubes from toilet paper and paper towels, made even more fun if you "unwind" a little cardboard to get them started.

Article Source: http://www.new.citynewslive.com

We at Nutrecare offer you a variety of efficient cat toysat our online store aswell as a pet health forum with a cat names section.

<category scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="Boxer dogs. The Brabanters were cross-bred with the early version of the English Bulldogs in 1830, and the cross-breeding came up with the Boxers most of us adore nowadays.

Boxer dogs are very square-built and medium-sized, stand 21 to 25 inches high, and weigh 60 pounds more or less. They have expressive brown eyes and jaws very square with an undershot bite. Because they are born with large, droopy ear flaps and long thin tail, most breeders in the USA have their ears trimmed and taped to stand erect, and have the tail shortened.

These trimming of ears and shortening of tails of Boxer dogs has originated in Germany for the purpose of not letting the wild boars tear much flesh from them during the hunt. For this reason, their strong and a little menacing looks gave them the reputation of being guard dogs.

Although they are not-so-friendly with strangers, these dogs are affectionate and love to play around with their families. Boxers are also very energetic and playful to the point of creating their own entertainment that are not very pleasing to humans. The best thing to do in this situation is to give your pet an ample time of play and exercise until he is steamed off.

Surprisingly, despite of their rough looks, Boxer dogs are gentle with children. However, each dog is an individual, so proper training and supervision is necessary to make sure both your Boxer and your children get along with each other. What is funny about this breed is that they tend to believe that they were bred to be lap dogs, even if they become sixty-pound babies!

Any dog breed requires training including Boxer dogs. They are so energetic and powerful that owners need to give them obedience training to be able to control them. Obedience training should start on the pet's sixth month until the owner can work on getting him used to the leash.

Boxer dogs are very clean and only shed moderately, so a Boxer owner can make use of a nice brush that can remove little dirt from his coat and distribute the coat oils to give him a glossy sheen. They rarely need bathing, but you can wash their feet if the has been in the mud. Also check his nails once in a while and give a little clip if necessary.

Those menacing and strong looks might change your mind having Boxer dogs at home. Well, think again. Behind those not-so-friendly looks of a Boxer lies the sweetest, funniest, and most caring pet you have always wanted to be part of the family.

About the author:
Richard Cussons writes articles about Boxer dogs. If you have a cat at home then you need to first get pet supplies for your cat so that he is always fit and healthy. But remember, in spite of the fact that you feed them if they see a rat they will still pounce instinctively and kill it. But house cats can sometimes become lazy and sleep their time off. There are certain exercise techniques that you can follow to keep them agile, awake and fit.

What Works?

Cats can be a little trickier because the type of play that they engage in is different than that of dogs. Cats engage in either social play, which is the romp, wrestle, and chase that you see between littermates or between cats living in the same household. Or they engage in object play, which is where they will stalk, pounce, chase and play with an object so they can kill it. Object play is what you should focus on when it comes to exercising your cat. There are many interactive type play toys on the market that work, and many can be found in pet supplies stores. Several of these are detailed later. Whatever game you and your cat enjoy will work, just remember to keep up the pace for fifteen minutes.

What are the benefits?

The benefits you will experience for a regular exercise routine are endless.

• Pets who have had their bodies and their minds stimulated by regular play tend to act out problem behaviors less frequently
• Your pet will be gaining social skills by interacting with you on a regular basis
• The bond between you and your pet will be strengthened, creating an even happier home life for you both.
• You will get exercise right along side your pet
• Your pet's health will be improved so that they can live a longer and healthier life

Here are a few exercise that your cat can do on a regular basis to keep fit. Apart from exercise, you should always take him to the vet whenever possible and get pet health check-up done. Pet supplies are also important because only if your cat eats well will he be able to stay fit through exercise. So assuming that you have the pet supplies and have got a pet health check-up done, here are some exercises:

• Use a toy that is interactive for your cat and either has a rat tail or bird feathers. Move it like the rat or like a bird and see your cat leap and trying to catch it. This exercise is great for their predatory skills too.

• Set up a box, and make tunnels that are soft-sided. These will be like small or mini obstacle courses that will not only help your cat get his quota of physical exercise and predatory skills but will keep him healthy and fit always. There are plenty of tunnels, small walls, boxes that can be made using cardboard. But remember if you are putting your cat through exercise then you need to feed him well too and hence always have ready pet supplies.

• Cats like anything that moves even if it is a tennis ball or a yarn ball. Get a tennis ball for him and watch him play with it as the ball keeps moving. If you are lucky, you will get to see him play some serious soccer!

• You can encourage your cat to scratch by using an interactive toy near a tall post. This will enable cats to stretch, which will help tone the muscles of their back and shoulders, and the overall pet health.

• Toy balls on a slick surface floor can peek some kitties interest

• Catnip toys can also aid in getting your cat into the game

• Laser toys are a big plus with many cats (Though hazardous if pointed in the eyes)

As well as all of these techniques you can also create a fake tree inside your home or let your cat jump off the branches of a small tree in your garden. This kind of exercise will help him to improve his balance as well as co-ordination.

About the author:
If you need further information on pet supplies, including cat toys, catnip and cat grooming visit our resource center. Owners spend time and effort reading up on the optimum nutritional values in dog food and the alternatives. Today our pets have a wide variety to meet their tastes and needs and we have our choice of what kind of food we can choose to feed them. Despite the variety, pet foods usually fall into three major categories. These categories are: Grocery store foods, these types of dog and pet foods are usually found in grocery stores and mass marketed retailers and can contain lower quality, less expensive ingredients. The second category is "premium dog foods," which can also be found in grocery's stores but are also found in pet stores and through your local veterinarian's office.

These types of foods are usually made from some higher quality ingredients and are usually made evident by the expense of the food. Some of these pet foods though can contain lower quality ingredients that you aren't aware of. The third and final category is healthy dog foods which are a relatively new addition and make use of the latest research into the best foods and blends for your pet.

So what is best for our pet and how do we choose the proper dog food?

Quality, healthy ingredients make quality, healthy dog food. Nutrition is important no matter whether you're a person or a pet. Pets, just like humans, need good nutrition not just to survive but to truly be healthy. They need good quality protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fats. This is where premium, healthy dog food can benefit your pets.

Typically, healthy dog food contains quality protein, good quality carbohydrates and fiber, natural fats and preservatives. The protein does not come from dead or diseased animals and you will never see the word by-product on the label. By-products (feet, bones intestines, etc) are inferior protein sources that are sometimes used and can be very hard for your dog to digest. Less digestion means less nutritious and therefore not as healthy. Quality protein helps build and maintain muscle strength.

If you see corn, soy or wheat used as protein sources instead of meat, you now know your pet isn't getting healthy dog food. Good quality carbohydrates give your pet the energy to be active. Good fiber sources help promote a healthy digestive system and colon. Quality fats from animal sources contain omega fatty acids that benefit the skin and coat.

Believe it or not dog food manufacturers that label their bags "premium food" use these ingredients as well as chemical preservatives and artificial colors that can be harmful to pets.

Benefits beyond healthy nutrition

When your pet is eating right, it feels better, giving you a happy and more playful companion, fewer trips to the vet, and less wasted food. Ultimately, giving your pet better food might seem expensive initially, but keeping your pet healthy saves you money, time and expense in the long run. Healthy, premium dog food can possibly extend the life of your pet giving you more quality years together.
  About the author:
Find dog food and more useful information health care on Alabama directory.

Article Source: http://www.Free-Articles-Zone.com

Related articles:
Home made recipe for dog food
Top rated dog food
Nature recipe Dog Food

Are small dogs good with kids?

Story By: dwaser

Answer: No, but it depends.
Are small dogs good with kids? Most people can’t seem to come to a consensus about this question. People who regularly place rescue dogs with adoptive families do not believe that children are good for small dogs. On the other hand, some people believe that some small dogs are good with kids. Both points are valid. Let’s discuss each opinion separately.

The people who believe that small dogs are not suitable for kids see it from the small dog's perspective. These people believe that a child could easily harm a small dog by acting like the dog is a toy and not a breathing and living creature. Small dogs can attack a child just as much as large dogs can. As far as the safety of the child is concerned, the injuries from small dogs would likely be minor compared to the possible injuries caused by larger dogs.

Some parents believe that their child is mature enough and “dog friendly” enough to enjoy the company of a small dog. Most of the time, these parents are wrong. Breeders and adoption agencies will often refuse families with children younger than seven or eight years of age. They do not think that it is in the best interest of the dog, which could easily be traumatized by living with small children.

People believe small dogs are safe for children because they are little. Many children do not realize their own power and strength as they are still growing up. They are simply not aware of what little effort it takes on their part to accidentally and unintentionally kill a small dog.

On the other hand, some people agree that certain breeds of small dogs are safe for children. Such small dog breeds include: beagles, terriers and collies. These dogs normally behave just fine around children and do not pose any kind of threat. However, you should avoid the biggest small dogs and toy breeds such as Chihuahuas for the sake of the dog.

In order to keep both child and small dog safe, you must monitor both the child and the dog at all times. If you can’t watch them both, place the dog in a safe room or in a crate away from the child. With proper behavioral training and enough exercise, a small dog can learn to adapt and fit in with the family. Therefore, it’s possible for a small dog to be good with kids.

A note of caution: parents must warn their children to never put their face in front of a dog. Dogs can get spooked and snap, which could result in severe medical injuries, no matter how big or small the dog is. Small dogs are not typically good for kids in the long run and they are not the smartest choice for both the dog’s and child’s safety. It is best to research all of your options first and determine why you really want a small dog as opposed to a big dog. Perhaps you shouldn’t get a dog at all…?

Article Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

If you're a dog lover too, visit Daniel's blog and get great, helpful information just for dogs and download the free report "The Secrets to Raising a Happier Dog”.

Nature recipe Dog Food

Story by: Abhinav Sidana

My dog, my friend, companion, pathfinder, seeker and watcher. whatever your dog means to you, your way of taking care of your dog will prove his love and affection to you. This is a pet health issue that shouldn’t be taken lightly and will need immediate attention.

One of the most severe pet health problems is CRF or chronic renal failure and one of the most common symptoms is an increased thirst for water accompanied by excessive urination. You can find more information regarding this disease from your vet. It is very important to have your pet health questions answered by your vet because the more knowledge you have, the more easily you will be able to recognize the symptoms and take action.

Chronic renal failure is a severe pet health problem that will induce changes your cat’s overall appetite and increase his thirst. The appetite can vary from one cat to another but mostly is on the decreasing side. You might even find your cat acting finicky and it will be tough to guess what they really want. In such a condition, the stool will most often be dry and firm but there will be an increase in urination.

This can lead to dehydration and make their coat quality poor. Their faces will bear a pinched look and the body temperature might be lower than normal. If you feel their kidneys then it will have a lump feel. The best way to confirm renal problems is through urinalysis and blood tests. Acquired kidney diseases are the cause of most cases of kidney failure in cats, and tend to manifest in middle to old age and is a regular pet health question.

Some of the more common diseases are listed below.

Chronic tubulo-interstitial nephritis is the most commonly identified problem in cats suffering from CRF. It is often the end-stage of many causes of kidney disease, where damaged nephrons (the functional unit of kidney tissue) are replaced with fibrous tissue. Typically affected kidneys will be small and scarred.

Glomerulonephritis is a disease in which the glomeruli (which help filter urine from the blood), are damaged by inflammation.

Pyelonephritis is the name for a bacterial infection of the kidneys.

Amyloidosis is a disorder by which insoluble protein fibres are deposited in various organs of the body. When it occurs in the kidneys, their function is impaired and chronic renal failure can result. Amyloidosis can be seen as an inherited condition in Abyssinian cats.

Hydronephrosis is an excessive accumulation of urine in the kidney caused by an obstruction or blockage in the ureter - the tube linking the kidney to the bladder.

Renal lymphoma is a cancer of white blood cells affecting the kidney. Typically both kidneys will be very enlarged if this condition is present.

Normally, the creatine and BUN levels will be highly elevated during the test analysis apart from Amylase and phosphorous levels. Potassium will be on the lower side. The treatment of such pet health condition will be directed mostly at supporting the body and other organs keeping in mind that one of the organs might fail. This is a progressive pet health condition and the amount of support required will be determined only after clinical tests and laboratory findings have been confirmed.

Normally your cat will go through extensive dehydration and will require more and more water to keep him going. As a result of this, you will see a remarkable increase in his thirst and however high the amount of water intake be, he will still be feeling thirsty. The best thing to do in such a scenario is to visit the vet immediately for a diagnosis and get him into a pet health care program as soon as possible.

Article Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

If you need further information on pet health, including articles and a pet forum visit our resource centre.
