PGPD Warns Residents About Multiple Scams

The Financial Crimes Unit is issuing an alert to residents about two scams currently being reported to the department. In both of these scams, suspects make direct personal contact with their victims.

The first scam involves suspects posing as Pepco utility workers. The scammers go to a victim’s home, often elderly victims, claiming an alarm was triggered indicating potential fire hazards in the home. Once inside of the victim’s residence, the suspect convinces the victim there is a serious electrical issue requiring immediate attention. The victim is asked to write a check for the needed repairs. The suspect then cashes the check without performing any actual work. The PGPD received one such report in 2025 with a loss of $18,500 to the victim. So far in 2026, we’ve received three reports. In one of the cases, the scammer was successful and stole $8,300 from the victim. The other two attempts were unsuccessful.

If you did not arrange an appointment with Pepco for repairs, do not let anyone into your home who is implying they are a utility worker. Call the company directly to verify the person’s employment and the work being done.

The PGPD’s Financial Crimes Unit is also getting reports of carrier scams. In these cases, suspects initiate contact with victims via email, text, or a phone call, often impersonating federal agents or government officials. The suspects convince victims their bank accounts are compromised and their money needs to be secured immediately. Victims are instructed to withdraw large amounts of cash and hand it over to a carrier who comes in person to collect the money for safekeeping. In other such cases, victims have also been instructed to deposit the cash in cryptocurrency ATMs. If you receive this type of communication, never click a link and don’t respond. Within the last four weeks, we’ve received three carrier scam reports. Combined, the victims lost more than $105,000.

The PGPD reminds all residents to never give money, gold, gift cards or anything else of value to someone you do not know, even if they are posing as representatives from legitimate businesses, banking institutions or government agencies. If you are worried about your bank account, contact your bank directly using the number on the back of your bank card.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Oxon Hill. Investigators are working to identify the deceased pedestrian, an adult male, so his family can be notified.

On April 1, 2026, at approximately 8:40 pm, officers responded to the area of St. Barnabas Road and Virginia Lane for the collision. The pedestrian died of his injuries on the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was struck by two vehicles in the eastbound lanes of St. Barnabas Road. Both drivers remained on the scene and were not injured.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Temple Hills. The deceased driver is 28-year-old Christopher Umanzor of Waldorf.

On March 27, 2026, at approximately 9:10 pm, officers responded to the 4300 block of Branch Avenue for a collision involving two vehicles. Umanzor died of his injuries at the scene. The second involved driver and his passenger were not injured.

The preliminary investigation revealed, for reasons now under investigation, Umanzor’s vehicle struck the rear of the second involved car, causing both vehicles to veer off the road. Umanzor’s vehicle ultimately struck a guardrail.

Missing Child Found

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing child. He is identified as 11-year-old Mason Wilson. Mason was last seen on March 27, 2026, at approximately 12:50 pm in the 1300 block of McCormick Drive.

Mason is approximately 5'3" tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

PGPD Charges Student in Possession of Gun at Suitland High School; Second Student Charged With Possession of Knife

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating after a student was in possession of a gun at Suitland High School on Thursday. The student is 18-year-old De’Ante Abbott of District Heights.

The preliminary investigation indicates Abbott got into a fight with a second male student in a hallway Thursday morning. When the assigned School Resource Officer (SRO) arrived to the fight location, he observed Abbott attempt to hand his laptop bag to another student. The SRO recovered a handgun in the bag. The second student involved in the fight with Abbott is also facing charges. The sophomore pulled out a knife during the fight with Abbott. The student suffered a minor self-inflicted knife wound to his hand. Abbott was not injured by the knife. The sophomore is charged with bringing a knife to school and second-degree assault. He is charged as a juvenile.

Abbott is charged as an adult with possession of a handgun, possession of handgun on school property, and additional handgun-related charges. He was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Stabbing

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred in Suitland Friday night. The victim is 31-year-old Troy Cager of Capitol Heights.

On March 20, 2026, at approximately 11:05 pm, Prince George’s County Sheriff Deputies responded to the 3900 block of Suitland Road for a domestic dispute. Once on scene, deputies located an adult male inside a home suffering from a stab wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives have identified all parties involved and are working in conjunction with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding the investigation.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Moped

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a moped. The deceased moped rider is 28-year-old Edwin Castillo-Jiminez of Hyattsville.

On March 14, 2026, at approximately 10:20 pm, officers responded to the area of Bladensburg Road at 40^th Place in Brentwood. Castillo-Jiminez was transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries on March 17, 2026.

The preliminary investigation suggests, for reasons now under investigation, Castillo-Jiminez lost control of his moped and collided with a pickup truck. No one inside of the truck was hurt.

PGPD Investigating Armed Robbery at Convenience Store; Employee Stabbed by Suspects

The Robbery Unit is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the suspects who robbed a Fort Washington business and critically injured an employee. A cash reward is available for information leading to arrests and indictments in this case.

On March 7, 2026, at approximately 1:50 am, three male suspects targeted the convenience store in the 7000 block of Allentown Road. During the robbery, one of the suspects stabbed an employee causing critical injuries.

PGPD Arrests Driver Following Illegal Car Rally With Stolen Gun in Car

Officers assigned to the District VI – Beltsville station arrested and charged a driver from Virginia who participated in an illegal car rally this weekend in the unincorporated section of Laurel. During a traffic stop, officers located a loaded firearm in his car. The weapon had been reported stolen. The suspect is 20-year-old Diego Emmanuel Guerra of Woodbridge, VA.

On March 13, 2026, at approximately 11:30 pm, officers responded to the 14400 block of Cherry Lane for the report of an illegal car rally. Officers observed approximately 100 vehicles taking part and subsequently dispersed the rally. Officers stopped one vehicle nearby which was being driven by Guerra. The gun recovered from inside of the car had been reported stolen out of Texas.

The suspect is charged with multiple handgun charges to include being in possession of a loaded handgun and being in possession of a stolen firearm.

He was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.

"This arrest again reinforces this agency’s unwavering message that illegal car rallies are dangerous. In this case, we recovered a gun that had been reported stolen. Do not come into our jurisdiction and take part in these illegal rallies. We intend to continue to make arrests,” said Chief Nader, Prince George’s County Police.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash in Brandywine

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in Brandywine. The deceased driver is 60-year-old Tony Andrea Johnson of Brandywine.

On March 14, 2026, at approximately 6:05 pm, officers responded to a crash at Brandywine Road at Letcher Road involving two vehicles. Johnson died at the scene. The second involved driver suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation suggests Johnson was traveling northbound on Brandywine Road, when for reasons now under investigation, he appears to have lost control of his vehicle. His vehicle ultimately collided with the second vehicle.

PGPD Officer & Two Former Officers Charged

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office charged one current and two former Prince George’s County police officers. Corporal Timothy Green is charged with two counts of misconduct in office and one count of conspiracy to commit misconduct. Former officer Sierra Alston is charged with one count of misconduct in office and three counts of conspiracy to commit misconduct. Former officer Gerald Briscoe is charged with four counts of misconduct in office and one count of conspiracy to commit misconduct.

Alston and Briscoe joined the PGPD in 2023. Alston was initially suspended in October of 2024. Briscoe was suspended in March of 2025. Green was suspended in June of 2025.

Alston separated from the agency in December 2025. Briscoe separated from the department in February 2026. Green joined the agency in 2015. He is currently on military leave.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Lanham

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision which recently occurred in Lanham. The deceased pedestrian is 79-year-old Becky Lynn Steele of Greenbelt.

On March 3, 2026, at approximately 6:55 pm, officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Annapolis Road at Ellerbie Street. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment where she died on March 7, 2026.

The preliminary investigation revealed a driver struck the victim in the eastbound lanes of Annapolis Road. The driver remained on the scene and was not injured.

PGPD Charges Suspect With Sexually Assaulting Multiple Women; Suspect Linked to Cases in Several Jurisdictions

The Prince George’s County Police Department charged a man with sexually assaulting multiple women over a two-year span. The suspect is 30-year-old Timothy Valentin of Fort Washington. He goes by the aliases “Rico” and “Teo”. He is currently in custody in Alexandria, VA, where he also faces charges.

In late January 2026, the Alexandria Police Department contacted the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Crime Division – Sexual Assault Unit regarding Valentin. APD’s investigation identified potential cases in Prince George’s County. The PGPD immediately launched an extensive investigation which has now resulted in charges against Valentin in connection with six survivors in our county. The survivors are all adults. The crimes took place in various locations in Prince George’s County between 2024 and 2025. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect met the women he targeted on dating apps or in person. During a date, the survivor would consume alcohol and once incapacitated, the suspect would sexually assault her.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing man. He is identified as 69-year-old Dereck Robbins. Mr. Robbins was last seen on March 5, 2026, at approximately 11:30 am in the 2000 block of Ray Leonard Road in Landover.

Mr. Robbins is approximately 5'6" tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a Redskins jacket and black pants.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Riverdale Area

Homicide Unit detectives are actively investigating a fatal shooting in the Riverdale area. The victim is 42-year-old Francisco Martinez Enriquez of no fixed address. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On March 3, 2026, at approximately 6:50 pm, the victim’s body was located outside in the 6800 block of Patterson Street. On Wednesday, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the victim’s cause of death to be a gunshot wound and the manner of death a homicide.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Oxon Hill

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Friday morning in Oxon Hill. The deceased driver is 24-year-old Alex Rodriquez Hines of Bryans Road.

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 4:30 am, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Indian Head Highway and the Capital Beltway.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Indian Head Highway approaching the Capital Beltway overpass. For reasons still under investigation, that vehicle struck Hine’s southbound vehicle. Hines was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Fort Washington

Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Fort Washington. The victim is 31-year-old Tyrone Gantt of Washington D.C.

On February 25, 2026, at approximately 2:35 am, officers responded to the 9500 block of Livingston Road for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Gantt suffering from a gunshot wound(s). Despite lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing woman. She is identified as 79-year-old Dianne Jones. Ms. Jones was last seen in the 4100 block of Vine Street in Capitol Heights on February 22, 2026, at approximately 8:30 am.

She is a Black female, who is approximately 5'3" tall and 153 pounds. She was last seen wearing a orange and pink sweatshirt, brown leather coat, and tan sweatpants.

Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday morning in the unincorporated section of Capitol Heights. The victim is 45-year-old David Downs of Capitol Heights.

On February 23, 2026, at approximately 11:20 am, officers responded to the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike for a shooting. Once on scene, they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

PGPD Charges Two Suspects Who Participated in an Illegal Car Rally

The Prince George’s County Police Department charged two men from Pennsylvania who participated in an illegal car rally in Prince George’s County. The suspects are 23-year-old Blake Miller of East Berlin, PA, and 22-year-old Gus Roth of Hanover, PA.

From approximately 10:00 PM on February 21, 2026, through the early morning of February 22, 2026, PGPD officers and multiple agency resources took part in a joint operation with the Maryland State Police and additional regional partner agencies targeting illegal car rallies. Multiple gatherings were disrupted or prevented altogether in Prince George’s County and neighboring jurisdictions.

An occupant in a participating car was observed swapping license plates. Despite this effort to conceal the car, officers soon located it on Allentown Road. As officers approached, the driver, Miller, attempted to flee and struck multiple cars. He then tried to run away but was quickly apprehended. The passenger, Roth, attempted to flee but was also taken into custody. Officers located a weapon and ammunition inside the car.

Miller is facing multiple traffic-related offenses. Roth is charged in connection with the firearm. The car was impounded.

“These arrests reinforce our consistent message that illegal car rallies are extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated. Additionally, Maryland State Police made two separate arrests involving a firearm during this operation. Together, the PGPD and our partner agencies will continue to enforce laws against illegal car rallies. My message is loud and clear: do not come into Prince George’s County or any of our neighboring jurisdictions and engage in this dangerous and illegal behavior. These car rallies cause havoc in our streets and take police resources out of our community. I encourage county residents and our media partners to follow these cases through the entire judicial process,” said PGPD Chief George Nader.

In addition to the arrests of Miller and Roth, PGPD conducted a total of eight traffic stops, impounded two vehicles, and issued 15 citations.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing child. He is identified as 12-year-old Mekhi Stewart. Mekhi was last seen in the 3200 block of Saville Lane in Bowie on February 14, 2026, at approximately 3:30 pm.

Mekhi is a Black male, who is approximately 5'1" tall and 115 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black sweatpants, and colorful sneakers.

Brandon is a Black male, who is approximately 5'3" tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, light blue pants, and a backpack.

PGPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Shooting

Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives charged the suspect wanted for a fatal shooting Tuesday night. The suspect is 39-year-old Jalleel Jackson of Washington, DC. He’s charged with the murder of 33-year-old Christopher Hall of Carrollton, Virginia.

On February 10, 2026, at approximately 10:45 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of 52nd Avenue in the unincorporated section of Hyattsville. Once on scene, they located Hall suffering from gunshot wounds. He died a short time later at a hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed Jackson shot Hall during a dispute. The suspect and victim were coworkers at a business where the shooting occurred.

The PGPD Fugitive Unit, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, took the suspect into custody in Washington, DC, where he remains pending extradition to Prince George’s County. Jackson is charged with first degree murder and related charges.

Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the town of Capitol Heights. The victim is 19-year-old Ky-Mari Bowman of Waldorf.

On February 4, 2026, at approximately 3:20 pm, officers responded to the 500 block of Abel Avenue for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Bowman outside suffering from gunshot wound(s). He died a short time later at a hospital.

Investigators are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s). Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.
