Phang Legal has provided volunteer legal support to the Salvation Army for many years.

On 20 March 2012, Ern Phang and Natalie Lim from Phang Legal joined the Salvos’ Wills and Bequests team to provide by Wills to members of the local community.

“It’s NSW Seniors Week, and it’s fitting that we’ve taken part in the Salvos Will’s Day. Of course, our services aren’t limited to seniors and seniors aren’t the only people who need wills, but most people I met at the Wills Day would have been seniors looking at revising their Wills. I’m glad that most of them already had a Will even though a few were a couple of decades old. The weather wasn’t the best, but people still came even though it was drizzling. I think they had more than expected, so it was good that Natalie was also able to accompany me. The Salvos gave her a room so she was able to see her own clients. A good time had by all.”

NSW Seniors Week

NSW Seniors Week (18-25 March 2012) is an annual event program presented by Ageing Disability and Home Care (ADHC). It is the largest celebration for people over 60 in the southern hemisphere. It is also for people aged 50 and older who have a lifelong disability or people who are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

NSW Seniors Week provides seniors with opportunities to:

• remain active, healthy and independent throughout the ageing process
• learn, develop and educate themselves at any age

In November 2011, the NSW Government announced that it was establishing Venues NSW (the governing body of the various Local Venues Councils across the state) to take advantage of any new opportunities in sport and entertainment for the benefit of local communities in New South Wales – and part of that included establishing a Local Venues Council specifically for Parramatta Stadium and Western Sydney (see announcement). On 1 March 2012, the announcement of the appointments to the Western Sydney Local Venues Council came after a long selection process (see announcement).

On 8 May 2011, Ern Phang was featured in a live radio interview on 2UE’s regular program ‘Legal Matters’ with host Tim Shaw.
