Open source programming languages have become much popular in these days as there are many advantages of it. PHP is none of the most popular programming languages in these days using which numerous web design and development projects are accomplishing within the required time period. being one of the most popular programming languages, there are large numbers of PHP based CMS available in the market and their numbers are increasing continuously. PHP based CMSs (content management systems) include WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, osCommerce, Zen Cart along with many others but Joomla is one of the best CMSs that is considered ideal for website design and development.

Joomla is a free and open source PHP based content management system (CMS) for publishing content on Intranets and WWW (World Wide Web) as well as a MVC (model view controller) web application framework that can also be used independently. Joomla uses object oriented programming that is written in PHP and for backend, MySQL database is used to store data. it has many features such as RSS feeds, printable version of pages, search, polls, blogs, caching, news flashes and support for language internationalization. it has been observed that Joomla has been downloaded 30 million times till March, 2012. now, you can easily imagine the popularity of Joomla website design works.

Many features are missing in it that are essential for website development. Joomla is considered to be very professional CMS through which any kinds of website can be designed or developed. these websites can be personal or individual site, small business website, medium-sized business website or large database driven complex portals.

Uptime monitoring service Pingdom analyzed the top 10,000 websites on the web and unsurprisingly found out that 74.6% of them are served on web servers run by open source software.

While it’s not surprising, it’s definitely impressive. even more impressive is that Apache web service and nginx are used by 61% of the top 10k sites on the Web. Microsoft’s enterprise offering, which is of course not open source, IIS, is used by 14% of the sites that Pingdom checked out.

Just in case those numbers don’t resonate with you in print, here’s a graphical representation of open source’s absolute dominance:

While the type of server software a company might run depends on the needs of its product, it does appear that more companies are turning to open source solutions than ever. I remember a time, about five years ago, where I was laughed out of many meetings and discussions when I pushed open source as a reliable, safe, and stable option to run web servers.

Guess people caught on finally, eh?
