Guild members will be getting their information for logging in to Sylvie Peraud’s class on Mosaic Techniques brought to us by CraftArtEdu on SATURDAY! The link will be live until Tuesday.

We will be Skyping with Sylvie at 1100 at the Sunday Meeting, and viewing the online class together. Don’t be late.

Emily’s Clay Table at Clay ConneCTion 2012

I am an early riser and usually the first one to the Clay room when we are on retreats. I entertain myself by taking pictures of everyone’s clay tables. There is always such variety.

So Emily’s beautiful bowls, showcased recently on Polymer Clay Daily begin like this. We clayers appreciate the process. Caning in particular transforms the clay almost magically.

This is the season for artists to display their creations (and hopefully exchange them for money!) There are many craft shows over the next two weeks. This weekend is one of my favorites at Penn’s Landing – Art Star Craft Bazaar – lots of hipster crafts there.

This year I am going to step it up a notch and go see Emily at the Pennsylvania Guild Fine Craft Fair. If you want to see Emily and the other fine artists, head down to Rittenhouse Square this weekend (Friday May 10- Sunday May 12) and come see what they have to offer.

Ellen Marshall will be teaching her newly developed 2-day workshop, Elements and Construction, on July 26-27, 2013 at the Premiere Master Class Camp in Laurel, Maryland. For those not familiar with Ellen, her experience with polymer goes way back. She creates one-of-a-kind and limited-edition contemporary art jewelry featuring polymer clay. Her inspiration has come from art quilts, ceramics, graphic arts, and color in general.

That is the theme for the day. Unfortunately I could not use the 2 hours sitting on 76W to write my members only newsletter because of wacky state laws regarding texting and driving. Even when driving resembles parking.

April Meeting Fun

On a cool Spring day we came together to learn about sideways Skinner Blends and Polka Dots from Lisa Clarke. We enjoyed Show and Tell (pictures up on Flickr!), and plenty of clay time. I believe Martha has an interview with Lisa up on our YouTube channel or will have it there shortly.

We have an amazing Members Only meeting scheduled for May 19, our last meeting before our Summer hiatus. The theme is Around the World with Polymer Clay and there will be a very special partnership with CraftArtEdu.. Watch for your members only email in the next week for more details.

Turn the Skinner Blend on Its Side

This Sunday’s guest artist is our very own Lisa Clarke. Lisa is a very talented caner (among other things), and will be showing us how to turn the Skinner blend on its ear. Er, I mean, side. (Skinner blends don’t usually have ears.) Here’s what she’s got planned for us:

Skinner blends are ubiquitous in millefiori, and are valuable tools for adding the illusion of depth to a cane slice. But what if we were to use a Skinner blend in another way? By turning the blend on its side, we can take an exceedingly simple design, repeat it in all of the colors of the rainbow, and stack them together to make a complex repeating cane. It is especially well-suited to simplifying plaid canes.
I will demonstrate a Triangle Cane, a Plaid Cane, and more complicated surprise cane.
