Family Doctor Negligence

$300,000.00 – Plaintiff, a Delaware County, PA resident, suddenly lost hearing in her left ear on the weekend. She called her family doctor’s service and was told to come in on Monday. When she did, the doctor told her she had “water on the ear” and prescribed and antibiotic for her. She called and returned after 2 week with no improvement and the doctor insisted on his original diagnosis. Plaintiff called again and demanded to see a specialist who eventually told her she had sudden hearing loss (SHL), not “water on the ear,” and that because the 3 week window for steroid therapy had expired, her one-sided hearing loss was permanent and untreatable.

Slip and Fall Due to a Puddle

$125,000.00 – Plaintiff was walking on municipal property near City Hall on her way to the subway. She slipped and fell on a puddle of standing water near the base of the concourse steps. It had not rained recently, and it was unclear how or why the water accumulated in that area.

Multi-Car Rear-End Accident

$700,000.00 – Plaintiff was driving her husband’s work vehicle on the Vine Street Expressway (I-676) in Philadelphia, PA when traffic suddenly stopped. She was injured when she was rear-ended by the car behind her and then again when another car rear-ended that car. $150,000.00 settlement in a case against a New Jersey bar and grill for over-serving alcohol to plaintiff and another patron who was a stranger to plaintiff. Plaintiff was allegedly pushed by the other patron and fell and was injured. The claim was that plaintiff’s intoxication made it more likely that he would fall when pushed and the other patron was overly aggressive due to his own intoxication, causing him to attack plaintiff.
