This is not about my bodyguard, as I don't have one and I don't need one. This is about the matter that has been haunting me for the past 2 days, the death of my favorite singer, Whitney Houston.

I remember watching the romantic-thriller film, The Bodyguard, featuring her and another favorite actor of mine, Kevin Costner.

That was the best movie to me, with acting debut of both of them.

I feel like rushing to the CD store to buy the movie. I will get the original CD, for sure…err…I mean….like I always did.

Where do broken heart goes?

Step-by-step I wanna dance with somebody how will I know I will always love you greatest love of all so emotional saving all my love for you.

48? Thats almost my age and here I am thinking that I will live forever, while The Almighty Allah would take anybody at all, when He thinks its time.

Hearing the sad news about this favorite singer of mine, makes me realize how lucky I am , living in a simple life, surrounded by a loving family. I do not need an extra ‘happiness booster’ in order to be happy.

I tried to imagine being a world popular singer, like Whitney. I could feel the heat of my screaming fans. I could feel the irritation hearing the clicking of cameras surrounding my family dinner. I could feel the emotion reading poisonous remarks from the gossipers. My poor family had to go through the agony throughout my career, being followed by paparazzi and mamarazzi. Privacy is only gained within the four walls of my room. Oh NO…!!!

I need to have a good vacation minus the Paparazzis. I want to continue barbequing by the beach with my family without being watched. I want to do my shopping spree without being chased by my fans. I want to wear whatever feels comfortable to me without judgment on the price, by the journalist. I want to sit by the roadside eating my favorite Durian. I want to feel free eating my favorite ‘Chendol’ at a hawker stall without being starred at.

Oh..by the way, Chendol (chen-doll) is a sweet coconut milk dessert, widely found at Malaysia hawker stalls. Its yummy.

I feel sorry to Whitney’s relatives and I feel sorry for myself for loosing another favorite singer of mine, but I am glad for being who and what I am.

Rest in peace Whitney Houston.

The birthday of The Prophet Muhammad

I chose to write about this story for my own purpose. So that it will be remembered by me and by all of you, the great people who visit this humble blogsite of mine. Let me start my post with prayer….

‘O my Rabb! Open my heart, ease my task and remove the impediment from my speech so that people may understand what I say”Surah 20, verses 25-28

Just to share a little history about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Muhammad was born at Makkah on the 12th of the 3rd Islamic months ‘Rabbi-al-Awwal’. His father died before he was born. He then was brought up by His grandfather. When His grandfather died, Muhammad lived with his uncle.

As a young boy, Muhammad kept himself chaste and pure, despite the corruption, gambling, drinking and other extreme indulgence in sensual pleasures, which was happening uncontrollably, at that time.

When he became old enough to choose his profession, he started trading. He earned such a reputation widely known to the most prominent capitalists of Makkah. That was when Khadijah, the wealthy widow, got to know him. Khadijah appointed him to handle her business. He turned Khadijah’s business so excellently. She then married this young business agent of hers.

It was his practice to meditate in a cave called ‘Hira’ for 1 month every year. He chose Ramadhan, the 9th month of The Islamic Calendar. Muhammad was 40 years old then, and didnt know how to read or write, when during his meditation at the cave, he heard the voice forcing him to read…..

“Read.! in the name of your Rabb, who created.

Created man from a leechlike mass.

Read.! your Lord is the most gracious,who taught by the pen,

taught men what he knew not”

The voice delivering the word was so loud and clear, that the word remained in Muhammad’s heart as if being inscribed upon his heart. That very same day, he also heard the voice said….

“ O Muhammad ! You’re Allah’s messenger and I am Gabriel”

This word marks Muhammad as The Prophet and the word was the 1st revelation he received, delivered by the heavenly messenger, Gabriel, the same messenger who came to Prophet Musa. This was verified to Muhammad and Khadijah, by a very old man who knew the scriptures of the Jews and Christian. The Old man was Waraqa bin Naufal, who happened to be Khadijah’s cousin.

The Arabic word Mawlidurrasul means the observance of birthday of The Prophet. This is referring to The Prophet Muhammad(Peace be upon Him). All the Muslim country celebrated the day, a week ago. Its a very special day for the Muslim. In Malaysia, Mawlidurrasul is a public holiday. We will filled up the day with prayers to The Prophet muhammad (PBUH).

Both handsome men are among my honorable guests.

Omar Bin Laden, the son of the most famous man in the history Osama Bin Laden. He and his wife, Zainah caused me a shock.!, once upon a time, when they dropped me a comment in one of my posting. I almost dropped from my chair.

Azizul Rahim, the latest guest to follow my blogsite, as of today. I dont know him and dont remember if I’ve ever spoken to him. I’ve met him twice though. Both meeting were during a family gathering on my husband’s side. Based on the family structure , he probably has to address me as Aunt. His sweet smile and that charismatic look makes me feel welcomed to the family. I love that hat too.

They are both living far apart, totally from a different background, no biological connection, no tele-connection. None. These 2 gentlemen with Zero connection, somehow…

Landmines Game

There was a calling for me to take the challenge. Then one day I arrived. I got into a huge room. It was so dimmed that I could only see spots all over the floor. I was told that, those were land mines.I walked slowly and steadily.

I had to walk across within the dimmed light, towards the other side of the room. It wasn't an easy move, having landmines all around. A single mistake could mean fatal. Step by step, I reached the middle. Another half of the challenge to the other side. I could also see dim shadows not too far from where I was. They were just like me. Walking cautiously, avoiding danger. Suddenly………

‘Bomb..!!’

Ouch..! That hurts.! the unlucky guy screamed. Lucky for him, it wasn't a fatal mistake he did. He raised his hand. The lights switched on. He needed a rest. Then I heard through the speakers “Take 5. You are excused”. It took him a while before he started his journey again.

It was only then I new that the room was watched closely by group of people. The wall was made of a see through material. People were watching us from out there. It was a game.

I was still shocked by the loud thud, but it didn't stop me from going ahead, aiming for the victory. So far so good. I have not stepped on the fatal inheritance.

Quarter to go. I heard an announcement……

Danger zone!!

I noticed the number of landmines are getting more, which getting more difficult for me to maneuver my way through. At times, I had to jump, skipping a few. More cautious moves I made.

Suddenly..

BAM..!!!

Gosh..!!! THAT WAS CLOSE..!

My heart was pumping hard. The landmine triggered, just next to me, as I almost reached the safe area.

I stunned . My steps stopped.

Another 3 jumps to the finishing line. One……Two….Three…..Done..!!!!

‘Thats it..! Im done with this game’

I walked out . PHEW…!!!

My Fun Big Family

These are just a number of them. My little nieces and nephews. 38 of them as of today. Coming from such a big family, I’m still able to remember all their names and their looks.

Full of action.

There are 14 – 1(deceased) of us from the same mother and father. Our parents could memorize our names without fail too.

We are a big family that full of laughter and jokes. We talk like friends. Be it mother to daughter, sister to sister, sister to brother, brother to father……..

Any villagers activities at all, there will be representatives from the house. We help and helped.

Who has never caught in and argument among siblings ?

You are lying..!

Growing up among the huge family. I experienced bullying and being bullied. Argument is part of our lives. That keeps us strong, close and together, regardless of age.

Its all about love. Love keeps us together.

At times, our games and jokes can be scary, but a joke is a joke. Nobody get hurt even it sounded hurting to a stranger’s ear.

“No matter how far apart, keep-in-touch and do not ‘fight’, especially when you are having your own family” My mom said.

We would gather as often as we could. Travelling cost is never an issue.

‘Support you brothers and sisters’. Thats the word of wisdom from our parents.

Having all their children under one roof again is the best moment for my aging loving parents.

The family activities vary from land to ……..

Every fun thing is shared, including the catch of the day, edible or non-edible.

A mansion is never spacey enough when we get together. At times, rooms got to be shared and going to the washroom is a waiting game.

Even when eating time is by turns, no one complained, as we had been told to…

Its fun….! Having a big family is indeed, fun..!

Distance keeps us apart, but LOVE keeps us together.

All those came into the picture. We, everybody in the house succumbed to the new environment.

“thats OK”

“Make your guest happy and comfortable in your house” My mom told me that.

My current visitor is so in love with Hindi Movie. She get hold of the remote control. She asked for Hindi CDs. Gosh…! She is so hooked to them.

its OK..she is a visitor.

For the next few days or weeks, I will be able to sing Hindi song.

My mom also said “ Do not let your visitor feel hungry in your house”. So, first thing in the morning, I did my grocery earlier than the usual. As I reached home, she volunteered to do the cooking. She is a good cook, that I could not resist her offer. Who would?

For the next few days or weeks, I will see more numbers added to my weighing machine.

Stories of the night at Potluck Family Gathering

I watched her from a distance. So cute. I approached her. She looked at me and gave me a sweet smile.

I went closer. Her expression turned sour. What did I do to you sweetie?

I offered my hands. She gave me a ‘you-wanna-fight?’ look. I moved even closer.Then reluctantly, she raised her arms. I grabbed her from her nanny.Where is the camera??

Suddenly……….nyeee……

Ops..!!! . Quickly I handed her over to her nanny.I swear, I didn't pinch her. I'm not a fighter..I’m a lover.

Next, I looked around. I noticed a few gentlemen having a hot discussion. I moved closer to them.

They were having serious talk. “hmm… this is interesting”. I thought. I stood not too far behind them.

The 1st guy said something. He must have said something that triggered a heat.

“You dont listen to him…..” The 2nd guy said to the 3rd guy, pointing at the 1st guy. (I was just interpreting his body language.)

Next……………..

The 1st must have replied.. “Hello… you listen to me….” ( another self interpretation from me)

“Man…! This is getting exciting.” I whispered to myself. I moved another step forward, trying to hear what exactly they were discussing about, but I still could not figure out.

Then I noticed as if the 3rd guy was saying something. He probably tried to give solution. What he said must have heated the guys in green.

Suddenly the 2nd guy turned to the guy in green.

“WWHHOOOAAHHH…!” Their action gave me a little shock.

I moved closer to check on what was happening.

WHEW…..!!

They were actually having a fun talks and telling jokes with full action.

That's how those guys, when they get together. They were all cousins of my hubby. Loud and fun guys.

It was late, almost midnight when the potluck gathering ended, but they still stood around and refused to make a move. At last…

Somehow…They had to say the word that hardest to say …

Good bye….

As for the ladies, one night is never enough. Business or non-business, talking has to go on.

Even if we were out of topics, posing to camera is a must. The youngs and the youngers.

The potluck event was held last night. That was the largest potluck gathering I’ve attended. They are all my inlaws. Unlike the previous few gatherings, that night I made an effort to move around the table looking for the familiar and the unfamiliar faces. I wanted to capture their image.

Thank God for giving a brilliant mind to the Facebook inventor. Having Facebook, I didn't have to introduce myself to some who I’ve met online.

Hush..hush….I sneaked some photos from Farha Ghouse’s collections. She had a much expensive camera. What a beautiful snaps.

It was a grand evening. Bravo to those wonderful people who had been working hard behind the scene.

Waiting for a Family Gathering

I’ve been to a little ones, now its a bigger event this time. More than 100 relatives will be there. If they were from my side I wouldn't be too conscious on what to wear, what to say, what not to say, how to say, and so forth, but its a gathering of relatives from my hubby’s side. I have not met 90% of them.

If it was a meeting thru the Facebook, I could just say what I wanted to say and could just logout. Then I could just login to check if someone commented. Could it be negative or positive comment? I wouldn't have to worry, as he or she wouldn't be there in front of me.

Now..here comes the major event….

Anxious…conscious…cautious….all-in-one.

‘uhuh..this is how I pronounce words’. I was born in another island, I'm a Malaysian though, and I would be delighted to meet all.

Guys and gals, I might be different, but this is how I am. I might dress unlike the others, but , inside me is a heart as soft as them. I might not talk the same dialect, but I do talk with honesty. I might be slow in catching the jokes , but I will laugh once it gets to my sense. So bear with me cousins. I will be there, regardless of the expectation.

ISUMA Potluck Gathering

That probably what these kids were singing, when the guests, including me, were arriving.

Well.. we might be bunch of oldies, but hey, look here young man & young ladies…We can still joke and laugh like the good old days.

Experience taught us how to start a small talk.

and gave us the ability to multi-task.. listening and talking and eating at the same time.

Perhaps due to the long years of depart, some had to start by looking around, taking time to recall who and who we were.

but it didn't take too long for us to get the acquaintance fixed.

And remember kids, we were once bunch of kids too, but that was many years ago. As we didn't have a cell phone then, we communicated thru mouth, not thru text messages.

And that still the same method we are practicing now. Hence, the Potluck gathering at Pak mat’s, this evening.

Yeah..you might be bored with the oldies..

Go ahead, young people…, watch TV or proceed with your text messaging, while we, the young-at-heart people need to re-build our networking activities.

‘Pak Mat’ .?? That's not his real name. He is an EX-Indiana State University student. So are we…all of us who came that night. Most of us are known well by our nickname. Regardless of our position at this stage, the nickname stays.

The gathering was expected to be attended by only about 20 pax. A little more than 20 chairs were prepared under the tent, which was sponsored by one of us.

Those chairs were all occupied, while many more had to make do with standing.

Having food right in front, no one mind to stand, anyway.

Bon appetite !!

From, Hong Kong pie and Indonesian Lemper and Malaysian lovely ‘Cendol’, The host’s Kacang Pool, Perfect Nasi Lemak, nakedy Hot Dogs, Special Curry Puff, My favorite local kueh, Excellent Penang Chicken Curry and Roti Jala , juicy Satay , Arabian Shawarma and little Italian green spaghetti and America potato skin chips and fruits and..and..and many more. The table was fully topped, like a fiesta.

The rest of the night was allocated for a soccer match. This time, all ages got together under one roof, one floor, one TV and one GOAL..!!!!

My Adri’s 15th Birthday.

It was not too long ago when we celebrated his 6th.

This cute little toddler, now has grown up to a loving boy.

He is now much taller than his sister.

27th Jan 2012 is his 15th birthday. My youngest, Adri. He is wiser and more mature thinking than his age. Smart too. His academic achievement is not too bad. He has always been above average, although I dislike his habit of doing last minute revision.

Most of the time he keeps all his talent unknown to his parents, though.

He talks less but sometimes caused me speechless when he does. He can be humorous at times. He is capable to make us laugh with just a single word or even just with his body language.

He is a silent challenger.

This handsome man of mine, one day took home a trophy that caused me to stun. Not knowing him being active in sports, the words written on the trophy caught us a great surprise.

‘OLAHRAGAWAN’ (o-luh-ruh-guh-one) is a Malays word for the best athlete of the year.

He was also selected to represent his school in track & field events.

Another day, when he was accompanying his group of friends to a break dance competition. While waiting for the result, he signed up for a contest. His friends lost the battle, while he, who was there for a moral support won 2nd on the ‘Guitar Hero’ contest. He came back with a cash price RM200.

Not too long ago, he told me that he was having a final competition on the following day. He was among the contestant for ‘Azan’ contest. Azan is an Islamic way of calling for prayers in the name of Allah, the most gracious and the most merciful. Azan is called 5 times a day. It marks the commencement of prayers. For that contest, Adri didn't win, but he won my heart, indeed.

They were many more surprises he gave us. Thank you for making your mama proud of you, dear.

Your mama love you. Remember that.

Happy Birthday my boy. May Allah grant you success on whatever you do.

To Work on Firefly

This morning I went to work as usual, but I didnt need to drive this time. I took a flight, instead.That was the 1st time I flew on Firefly. I was going to Johor Bahru for a short meeting. My flight departed from Subang Airport at 7:25am. My last trip from this beautifully refurbished airport was about 15-17 years ago.

I arrived 1 hour earlier just to incorporate any unexpected matters. I hate Murphy’s law.

To avoid delays, I’ve checked in through the web checkin facility at the time when I purchased the ticket via internet, but, I wasn't sure where to park my car at that airport, so I asked my hubby to send me. Not many people at the airport. What a peaceful trip.

Again, I wasn't sure if or not I had to verify my boarding pass, like when I flew with Airasia. I looked around for the specific counter. None. I went ahead to the common checkin counter staff. “You can just walk in directly to the departure hall, Ma’am” She directed me. “Great” I thought. I followed her instruction.

Passing through the security check was no hassle either. No ID required. Just a boarding pass would do.The departure hall has only 3 gates , next to each other and can be seen within the radius of my sight. Meaning..you may sit wherever and whichever corner without missing your flight.

While waiting I sent text message to my S.I.L, wishing her a happy birthday, before switching off my cell-phone. Later I learned that I had a few missed calls from my loving husband. MUAHH..!

I landed on the expected time. The flight took only 1 hour, to JB.

Come to think about it…. what an easy and peaceful flight I just experience with Firefly. As easy as 1-2-3

1) purchase ticket thru internet

2)Checkin thru web checkin and print your Boarding Pass

3)walk straight to the departure hall, passing by the security checkpoint, showing your boarding pass.

You will only require to show your ID when the staff call for boarding.

No long queue, No rush, not noise. Refreshment and muffin are served.

My meeting at Johor Bahru lasted until lunch hour. The great host bought me a perfect lunch at a local restaurant. Seri Bayu . (Not sure it this is correct), at Larkin Perdana.

After lunch a business partner sent me back to the airport to catch the 5pm flight. I reached home at 6:30pm, similar to my regular time of reaching home after work.

Now I have an extra choice of airlines.

Now I Know What I’ve Missed

First thing first……FOOD..!!! HUUWWAAAA…..!!!!

Not only that….

I didnt get to meet all of them…..

And them….

And many more of them.

They are all relatives from my husband’s side. Them, who I’ve been wanting to meet.

potluck..anyone.??

The initial plan started from the Facebook group. As far I could remember, this was the 2nd potluck, and the 1st held in Penang. It happens to be the biggest.

BUT……

For some reason I could not attend. I missed the wonderful event.

All along I’ve been keeping silent among the family. That event was the best way to meet up, as I didnt know many of them and I still dont..and… I MISSED THE GREAT EVENT ????? AARRGGGHHHH…!!!

I wished it was not held during Chinese New Year, when a trip to Penang is a No..No.. to me. My previous experience of 10 hours stuck on the road was good enough to reason out, especially when the rest area was then about 3—4 hours ahead the slow moving traffic, while the alien was about to come out from down under. urrgghh…thats it!

Driving to the island, The Pearl Of The Orient during that festive season is not fun. I had enuff of stress having to drive in bad congested road everyday to work. So.. serve me right…I missed meeting those special people whom I’ve been wondering who.

Thru photograph posted on the group FB, I noticed their excitement right from the very beginning, when preparation were ‘supperbly’ done.

Congratulation to Mr. President and the subordinates.

They completed the event with audio system and unpaid MC.

Some took the chance to celebrate birthday. This would be ‘The Day’ to remember for the birthday girl.

And I missed the Grand Nite…????

They all got together that night. The youngs and the not-so-olds, while I am here browsing through all the photographs, drooling looking at the food and still wondering who is who.

To Port Dickson Without Reservation

It was a long weekend with Chinese New Year coinciding.

A big gathering was going on that evening,in Penang Island, but we couldn't make it to attend. Not because we didn't want to, but because we were not willing to go through the congested road. We had gone through an experience going to the island during Chinese New Year, years ago. We were stuck in a bad..bad.. jam for 10 hours. That's it, no more Penang trip during CNY for us.

But, the kids were begging “its a long holiday…lets go somewhere..please….”

That very day,we took a risk driving toward Port Dickson. It was quite congested at the highway. Not as bad as going to Penang though.

We reached PD after spending about 2 hours on the road.

Road nicely painted in red, marked our arrival at the district of our destination.

Port Dickson. 90 km from Kuala Lumpur. It is located in the state of Negeri Sembilan in Peninsular Malaysia

Perhaps due to the festive season, the town was quiet when we arrived.

PD, as called by the locals, was once a small town the produced Charcoal.Therefore place was also known as ‘Arang’ (Malay word for charcoal)sometime in the 1820s. The British then, developed the place into a small port during the Straits Settlement period. The incharge officer then was someone named Dickson. Hence the name Port Dickson.

Our trip to PD was not to seek for history, but for picnic. So, we packed our necessities for grilling.

OK..fist thing first..where is the wet market.?

Oh yes..we were serious about the picnicking matters. We found the wet market. Despite the big festival, lucky us, there were still sellers that stayed and sell seafood until that afternoon. We only found fish, prawns and squids. No crabs no sea shells.

We went ahead to the beach. It was a longgggg… beach and we didnt have much problem looking for a convenient spot.

Hammock was nicely hung. Stove was set. Great.! Time to grill..!!

Nadia did a preparation and she deserved to rest, watching Adri and I cooked rice in the pot that we brought especially for it, while her father did the grilling.

It was way past our lunch time, but no body bother to eat. We were all longing for the grilled seafood.

1 hour later. Bon Appetite..!!!

Next, resting time.

Ahh……It was such a cool place to relax. I enjoyed the wind, blowing my stress away.

Mother being a mother, I did the cleaning up as I didn't want the rest of the trip smelling like fish in the car.

Next.. ‘lets see if we could get a room’

During a holiday, it is not always easy to find an available hotel room. We were lucky though. Only 2 rooms available. ‘I’ll take it…!”

No regret. It was a beautiful resort by the marina bay, overlooking the ocean.

My children enjoyed the scenery too.

The swimming pool looks so beautiful, seen from our window.

The Avillion Admiral Cove is the name. Such a beauty.

That night, we drove around looking for food. We just had simple dinner at a cafe. We then top it up with Durian.

We notice such a crowd patronizing the store ‘Baden- Baden Bundle. hmm..interesting, but nope.. We wanted to get a way from crowd.

Going for breakfast on the next morning was not fast. We had to stay in line. That was such a big crowd.

After breakfast, we had to head back home, happy.

I hope my children will remember this moment and will continue this activity when they have their own children.

We reached home at around 20 noon. We were looking forward for another occasion.Family BBQ..!!

It was drizzling in the evening, somehow, the BBQ went on. And I wrote about it in my most recent journal.

I got a present

During Chinese New Year, 4 months after my birthday.

I got it...!!

It was an unexpected present. received on a very unexpected time.

We were having potluck BBQ with close relatives, that night. (On the night this journal is posted)

Family gathering is something that me and my hubby like to call upon, even without further preparation. It just happen whenever we feel like.

The special present passed to me, then. It was a great surprise. It took me a while to open, as I didn't want to tear off the beautiful words and the nice drawing drawn on the cover.

Laughter is the best medicine.! Written on the wrapper.

Experience teaches

Its been so long since I left my hometown, Lahad Datu.

I was about 11 years old.I still remember then, when my mom one day, came to talk to my class teacher. Next, she asked me to pack my bag. We left without giving me much time for me to feel the sadness leaving all my friends at St. Dominic Primary School, Lahad Datu. My favorite teacher, Mr. Joseph then teaching. He was the only teacher who saw me leaving. Recently I got the news that he passed away a few years back. Sad.

Little that I know, that my parents then, had arranged for me and all my 9 schooling siblings, a new school, prior to that day.

I came across a few challenges when I attended the new school. It was 1976 when I moved to The Peninsular Malaysia, Methodist Girls School (Primary). Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. The first thing I noticed, there were many dark skin students. Later I knew that The Peninsular of Malaysia consists of 3 major races. Malay, Chinese and India. Those students that caught my attention were Indian. In Sabah, where I was born, we were known by our ethnic, like, Kadazan , Dusun, Bajau, Pilipino, Suluk, Visaya, Bugis, Ida’an, Murut, Bagahak and many more.

I sat next to a nice girl. For the first time in my life, getting an Indian acquaintance and I happened to be her first Sabahan friend. She gave me a warm welcome, while I , for the whole week, kept my self quite, not to get too much of my Sabahan accent heard. The naive me, was ashamed for that.

Another challenge, I could not communicate confidently in English, although I understood what she was saying. She asked me many things. We both were excited getting to know each other. Both from different background. Slowly I practiced my English speaking skills, through replying to her questions. I should thank her, but we lost contact and I’ve forgotten her name and her look. Bad memory.

Living in a the capital city was a big change to me. Among many, I learned how to commute on public transportation. I learned the West Malaysia Malay accent and I learned how to Ice-skate.

That was for the first time I walked into the Ice-Skating ring, at the former Asia Jaya building. It was like a dream, standing on an ice floor. Being young and naive, but active and creative, it only took me about half an hour to learn how to ice-skate. Not excellently, but , OK.

Our neighbor in Bangsar was a Chinese family. They had a few dogs. One day, we heard her dog crying, as if being beaten. It was a long haul day of dog screaming. My brother and I, who loved puppies, then, we wondering what had happen. Later in the evening we saw a barbequed dog served on the table. It was a special occasion for Chinese. I couldn't remember the name of the occasion, somehow I could not forget the image of the naked dog being served. Later I knew, that the longer its being tortured to death, the better the taste. A Chinese friend told me that.Then I knew that dog is edible. No..no..no..I’ve never tasted dog meat.

Another neighbor were a group of university students. All malays judging from their looks.The house was always noisy. They laughed, they shout, they sing. Later I knew that one of them was the late popular singer, Sudirman Hj Arshad. Those were the days when Bangsar used to get a flash flood. And those guys were very helpfull, helping my dad pulling our floating car from almost being brushed by the flood to the nearby huge drain. Thanks God, Bangsar today is no longer a flood prone area.

Any festivals were fire crackers festival to us, during our kiddie years. I joined my brothers shooting those flats above us, with the flying fireworks. It was like a war. Such a dangerous game. And yes, I enjoyed the moment. It was only now I realized what a great danger we could have caused. Of course I wouldn't let my kids do what I did.

My high school was totally out of the way from the primary school.The Masjid Negara (National Mosque) was a walking distance and located along my way to school, from to our house in Bangsar. With a group of friends, I preferred to walk there, attending a class of Qur’an reciting. Kids being kids, it was more of enjoying my time being with friends, rather than seriously wanting to learn the Qur’an reciting.I attended the class almost everyday, somehow.

During my secondary school, I started to speak with West Malaysian Malay accent. Some could not identify where I was originally from. My Sabahan Malay accent almost vanished.If I could turn back time I could have taught my friends some Sabahan Malay words.

English Communication Skills was much better. I found many new friends from Malay, Chinese, Indian and Punjabi background. Many times visited their house. My ‘Ustaz‘ ( teacher of Islamic School) used to say, ‘Do respect other religion’, and I always have that in mind whenever I visited their house. I found it interesting to learn others’ culture and religion.

In school, I started to get involve in a few activities. I joined choir group. I enrolled as a Girl Guide. It was fun. Later, I learned from my kids that Girl Guide is no longer exists, today. What a pity.

Once, I was charged for throwing rubbish on the school compound. The punishment was something that I wouldn't forget and I hate it. I had to come to school on one Saturday to clean the toilet. The good thing was, there were many of us being punished on that day. We completed the task, so fast. It taught me to be clean and stop throwing rubbish on a wrong place. I still hate the bad experience though.

My parents had always set our weekends occupied. If we were not sent to ice skate, we would be either on trip to Penang or Singapore, or enjoying our picnic by the beach at port Dickson or Morib, or at piano class, tuition etc..etc..etc.. There were always a weekend activities. Since the car could not occupy all 9 siblings, we had to take turn. However, those who had their turn, wouldnt be left without anything planned for them. The time spent by my parents on our joy were the moment I value, forever.

When my parents moved back to my hometown, they left me and my 2 brothers under the supervision of the maid. We lived with the family for a year. It was a whole community of KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) employees living in the area. The area today is where the Maybank building is standing tall, in Bangsar. Then, I learned using toilets shared by the whole community. I learned to shower in an open shared big well. I played with their children. Once I witness 2 elderly lady screaming and pulling hair. They fought for something, which I was too young to understand. Neither did I nor my brothers complained about the inconveniences to my parents though.

In 1978, we returned to Sabah with a whole new chapter. I believe, all those experiences contribute to who I am, now. I wished I could describe to my parents how much I appreciate their love and the wisdoms that they wanted me to gain from the experience.

In my recent visit to my hometown was just a 2 nights stay. To optimize my time spent with them, I opted to sleep in their room. That gave me a chance to have a pillow talks and morning talks with my mom, while my dad who teaches us to be helpful and love others regardless of who, are now too heavy with sleepiness due to bunch of medicines that he consumed everyday. He hardly talk and hard to remember.They both are looking much-much older than the time when they left me in Kuala Lumpur.Their moves were getting slower. Their wrinkles are deeper. I wished i could stay longer to take care of them.My pitiful parents.

It was so hard for me to leave. Now I’m back to my own family, missing my parents.

Perhaps its the culture that I could not openly express it, but in my heart, I always say this “I love you mom and dad”

What is it about IKEA?

The store is only 10 minutes drive away. I like to see those things being displayed. They are good for a compact area. Each time I go there, I would grab the measuring tape and the provided paper, the cute little pencil and the big yellow bag or trolley.

When my kids join, they would be busy clicking their mobile phone camera.

Stop imagining kids.!

My hubby would be looking around for a comfortable seat, which most of them do not fit in any corner of our small house.

Carpet area is also one of his favorite, which causes him to sneeze each time we were there.

I would spend more time at the kitchen area, and frame area, and candles and bedroom and..and..and.. woooo…I want everything.

The kids have nothing in mind but taking photographs.

Every time I think of something to buy I would be thinking of….

‘where to place?’

At last, I changed mind. I would be picking up thing into the bag/trolley then retuned them back..then picked another..then returned them. I would sit on the settee and enjoy the comfort and to relax my foot.

In the end, we would just walked out with batteries or light bulbs, discussing about….

“where to eat?”

Bombastic vs simple word

Once, my daughter complained.She didn't understand a short article.

“What have you learned?? you cant even understand what you are reading? Pass it to me.” That was my initial reaction.

I read.

“mmm..what the heck is this about?”. Neither did I understand it. I re-read and re-read and referred to dictionary. Then only I managed to get the message.

I then explained to her every statement in simple words.

“Thats it?”

“Yup, thats it”

Such a short 4 paragraphs article. Nice to see. Sounded like being written by very high scholar. Lots of bombastic words being used. It makes me feel as if I’ve never learn English before.

Then I thought to myself…'Good article..but..whats the point, if the writer is not able to convey the message to the reader?'.

I remember reading a book that stated, a good writing is something that is written in a simple and understandable words. The most important is, the message is received by everyone who read it.

So..

Mixing colors again

Its back.!! My mood is back!

All along I am having this intention to buy a nice painting for myself. Somehow, each time I had that in mind, I opted for a second thought.

Art is an art. Regardless of the look, its an art. Beauty is in in the eyes of the beholder. Not looking nice to one, might seen beautiful to others. So I thought to myself, “Why not I give it a try? If its not okay, its okay”.
I took out my old coloring materials. I found most of them. Some from the left drawer, some from the right, Some from the top and some from the bottom. And I found them, alright.

I was feeling like back to art class, but without my art teacher, this time.

Okay or not-okay, I did them my way.

Of course I will not forget painting my favorite Roses. Its still in the making…….

Nothing to shout about, they are not excellent, but I framed them anyway. I value the time I spent on them.

I looked at them again and again. Now what.?? What to do with them? Where to place them?

What come may. I will keep them anywhere, anyway.

Followup info on the snatcher

The war is still going on between the snatcher and us. On the 2nd day after the fight, he appeared. Seen on the CCTV. He threw a glass of young coconut drink to my house compound. My son was at home alone, but was in a deep nap.If I were there, I could have shouted "HEY.!! Thats my favorite drink".

I ended cleaning the area as I got back from the office that evening. What a waste of coconut water.
Then, he appeared again on the 3rd day, as informed by my neighbor who has CCTV fixed. He passed by our house without doing anything. Either he had his own plan or just...

Then, we had a rest for about 2 days. That snatcher needs a rest, so do we.

And then........

Yesterday, the police informed my hubby that they put a chase on him that morning. He was seen lingering around on his motobike, not too far from my area. He was probably was looking for potential victim.But he is faster than the police. Thay couldnt catch him. What a sneaky little fella.! You wait lah....

Cerita Purba Ku –Episod 18

Pak Chot melihat mencari di setiap pelusuk rumahnya. “Limah! Limah.!”. Suara isakan tadi tidak lagi kedengaran. Hati Pak chot luluh. Apakah yang membuatkan Limah bersedih? Kesunyiankah dia? Dimana dia berada?

Malam itu fikiran Pak Chot begitu kusut. Bayangan wajah ayu Halimaton serta wajah Limah semasa mudanya muncul berselangseli di anak matanya. “Salin tak tumpah” bisik hatinya. Pak Chot menutup kelopak matanya. “Abang..” tiba-tiba suara Limah kedengaran. Pak Chot menoleh ke arah suara itu. Degupan jantungnya semakin deras. Tiada ada siapa2 di situ. Beliau menoleh ke arah Intan. Anak manis itu kelihatan nyenyak. Intan keletihan agaknya. Pak Chot meletakkan kepalanya semula ke bantal.

“Ah, mungkin aku bermimpi. tapi…..” Pak Chot dengan segera menutup matanya semula. Dia teringat semasa di lubuk ketam, beliau telah berbicara dengan Limah. Suara bisikan Limah hanya kedengaran dikala beliau menutup mata.

“Abang, kahwinilah Halimaton” suara bisikan Limah begitu jelas sekali.

“Limah.! Kenapa Limah lama menghilangkan diri. Abang rindu..” Suara Pak Chot terketar-ketar menahan sebak.Matanya terus ditutup. Dia terlalu rindu pada suara bisikan itu.

“Abang kahwinilah Halimaton” Sekali lagi suara Limah kedengaran.

“Tidak Limah, Abang tidak sanggup. Limah masih tetap dihati abang” Balas Pak Chot lemah,sambil matanya ditutup rapat. Dia tidak mahu kehilangan suara itu.

Tiba-tiba kedengaran suara pekikan yang kuat. Pak Chot melompat dari tidurnya. “KENAPA LIMAH..???” Mata Pak Chot terbeliak terkejut. Suara pekikan itu semakin jauh dan lesap. “LIMAH..!!!!” Pak Chot juga turut memekik. ‘LIMAH..!!!” Dia terus memekik nama Limah. Dia terasa kehilangan.

Limah bagaikan ditarik oleh sesuatu. Kenapa Limah menjerit sedemikian? Adakah Limah terseksa oleh sesuatu? Pak Chot terduduk. Kesal, sedih, kecewa, buntuh. Dia tidak tahu bagaimana untuk menyelamatkan Limah. Airmatanya jatuh dan mengenai sesuatu di lantai. Beliau mendapatkan benda itu. Puas Pak Chot menggosok-gosokkan matanya. Memang benar, itulah cincin yang dibuatkannya khas untuk Limah. Tapi kenapa Limah mengembalikannya. Airmatanya terus menitis. Dia betul2 kecewa. “Kenapa Limah.!!???” Sambil digenggamnya cincin Limah. “KENAPAAA…!!???” Pak Chot memekik sekuat-kuat hatinya. Suaranya bergema jauh kedalam hutan, bersahut-sahutan dengan bunyi cengkerik dan burung hantu.

Intan terkejut dari tidurnya. Dia duduk merenung ke arah Pak Chot. Intan ketakutan melihat Pak Chot berkelakuan sedemikian. “sshhh…. maafkan bapa , Intan. shh…tidur ya nak..” Pak Chot membaringkan Intan semula. Dibelai2nya anak itu. “Kasian Intan” Bisik hatinya yang masih luka itu. Pak Chot tertidur bersama Intan.

Malam itu Pak Chot bermimpi. Limah kelihatan tercegat di tepi sungai tempai beliau mencari ikan. Dua lembaga hitam yang tidak berwajah berada di kiri dan kanan Limah. Lembaga itu besar dan tinggi.. Wajah Limah kelihatan dalam ketakutan. Suara Limah terketar-ketar. Kedua tangan Limah ke arah Pak Chot. Mata Limah digenangi airmata. Limah seakan-akan meminta untuk Pak Chot mendapatkannya. Pak Chot berjalan ke arah Limah, tapi semakin dekat langkah Pak Chot, kedudukan Limah dan kedua lembaga itu juga semakin jauh. “Abang..!! selamatkan Limahhh…!! kahwini Halimatonnn..” . Limah lesap dalam kegelapan hutan.

Limah..!! jangan pergi.!!!!

Pak Chot terjaga dari tidur. Teriakannya juga mengejutkan Intan. Pak Chot duduk bersandar ke dinding. Suara Limah masih terngiang-ngiang di telinganya. Apakah maksud mimpi itu? Apakah yang Limah ingin sampaikan? Kenapa dengan Halimaton? Pak Chot kebingungan. “Ah! lupakan lah” Dia bersuara sambil menoleh ke arah Intan. Anak kecil yang masih tidak memahapi apa-apa itu tersenyum.

“ Hari ini kita mandi sungai ya nak” dengan lembut Pak Chot berkata. Intan begitu ceria menyambut kata2 Pak Chot. Dia seolah-olah memahami.

Selepas sarapan, Pak Chot bersiap-siap untuk kesungai. Intan dibiarkannya duduk di penjuru. Sambil berkemas, fikiran Pak Chot masih teringat mimpi ngeri tadi malam. Ketika beliau ke dapur untuk mendapatkan parangnya, suara Intan kedengaran tergelak-gelak kecil. Pak Chot bergegas ke luar.

“Wah…Intan sudah boleh berdiri?” Wajah Pak Chot berubah kegembiraan. Intan tidak memperdulikan Pak Chot. Dia teruskan usahanya untuk berdiri. Dia tergelak setiap kali jatuh terduduk. Pak Chot turut tergelak. Beliau terus memerhatikan betapa nekadnya anak kecil itu.

Morning fight with a snatcher!

8:50am .I was getting ready for office, but decided to work from the house for a while, as I anticipated a bad traffic jam due to the planned roadside demonstration which related to someone else’s sex life trial happened that day. (What a shame)

My hubby left the house 5 minutes earlier.

5 minutes later, I heard a commotion. It was a man’s voice. I popped my head looking towards where the voice came. I saw a man on a motorbike, shouting at another man. I adjusted my troubled eye-sight.

“ My husband.!!”

I rushed to get the house key and ran to him.”What happened..??” I saw blood drops from my hubby’s hand.

“I got him…the guy who tried to snatch Adri’s hand-phone..s**t !! He took my car key..house key…house gate remote control ..he grabbed all the keys..s**t..!!”

Too late. The bad guy left. My hubby punched him once and kicked him once. Once was not enough, but the guy got up and grabbed his motorbike vrrroooommmmm….! gone. He somehow gotten near the car and grabbed the bunch of keys from the ignition.

It happened so fast. I ran back to the house, while my hubby had to go to the airport.

At hose, I quickly switched the padlock, just in case if he comes back.

10 minutes later..Ting-Tong..!

OMG! who is that??

phew..!! my ex-maid who left 2 weeks ago, decided to come just for a night. She said she would help me to clean up the house for a day.

My mom used to say “always make your visitors fell welcomed to your house”. So, I invited her in. I needed a company for that day, anyway.I told her what had happened and told her not to open the door, as the guy might appear anytime.

True enough, the bad guy came back. On his motorbike, he came with a long wooden plank with a few nails stuck out, at the end of it. He came with anger and shouted vulgar and threatening words. My helper and I shivered like hell.

The guy throw the plank into my porch and left.

A minute later, he came back, again with full of vulgar and anger. I heard the gate opened.”WWHHOOOAAAHH…!!! My helper and I ran upstairs and locked ourselves in the room. I called my hubby to call the police. On the other corner, the maid was also busy making calls

Two patrol cars came together with my hubby , but the guy has left about 3 minutes before that. Another 2 cars also arrived, not to help, but to save the maid. She left with them without saying good bye. HAH..!! what else could I say..?

Police report were made and the policemen left.Nothing much they could do.

I didn't dare to leave my son alone at home. So, I continued working from home, while my hubby had to run errands.

My hubby came back at around 2pm. Car alarm were changed, new padlock bought. House gate remote control needed a change, so the technician was called to handle that.

At 3pm, my neighbor who had a CCTV called. She saw the guy passing by our house.My hubby called the police. We both then grabbed one cane each. ..but…..they are my collections.

I got this one from Pakistan. A metal Cobra head cane comes sword.

This is from Samosir Island, Indonesia. Another one is also from the same place. It is made of buffalo horns.

This cane is gotten locally from the school uniform store.

I’m still wondering if I would be brave enough to hit another human being. Even if I would, do I have THAT energy?? oh no.. I hope I don't need to do that.I will bring one with me in the car anyway. At least for a few weeks.

ok, back to the main story.Where was I..??

Yes, we both grabbed one cane each and looked out. No one there.We didn't see the guy. My hubby drove around for a while.

The bad guy didn't come back.

Calls after calls we received. From those who care. How blessed we are surrounded by caring inlaws, brothers, sisters and neighbors.

Dont worry you all. We have many canes in the house. And I will get a pepper spray tomorrow.

I have to appear the smartest in the class. Because I’ve got to be the ones who is teaching them. but..errr……

In Arabic??

I dont seem to have a choice. The client that I have to train data input is having 99% books and materials written in Arabic.

So..!!! Here I am, cracking my head on those scripts that I, many..many..many years ago learned from my religion school.

There are 4 characters in Jawi that are not availabe in Arabic characters. They are ‘nga’, ‘cha’ , ‘ga’ and eerrr…… I forgot the other one. oh ya!. its ‘nya’.

I’ve searched the internet, but not much helps. Mostly are looking for data entry person , instead. ok, maybe I can possibly be the candidate, but for now, I am not looking for another job. I need to do this job.

Now what?…

Gotta do some research. CHao..!!

HA.HA..HA..!!!

My dear LittlesisD, you are hilarious. Your comment in my recent post made me burst out laughing.

You are not interested on Salak Pondoh, allright. Now you make me crash my head to recall what she said. We are talking about Aisya, my previous maid, the one who left for a day off but never came back, the one who made a sudden appearance last weekend, the one who brought me the weird fruit, ‘Salak’.

This is her mystical the story, which I reluctantly listened.

According to her, she was having a bad Gout. I believe that. I've seen her swollen leg. I’ve even bought medicine for her then.

When she visited a friend during her off day, that friend of hers recommended a ‘Bomoh’. This is a Malay word for a ‘sharman’, who she believe has an in-depth knowledge and power of internal healing thru his magical ‘Mantra’. Mantra that her friend said, capable of "creating transformation". (Na’uzubillah..). Out of desperation, she went.

“There was one in my shoulder, one in my head, and one in my leg, Ma’am”. She whispered.

“Huh..? What’s that?” My Salak was only half peeled.I paused.

“The Jinn. There were 3 of them. They are gone from my body. I’m ok, now. I’m so happy. ” She was excited.

“Really..???” I acknowledge with doubt.

“Thats good..I mean..good that they are gone”. Deep in mind, I imagine a sexy genie in a bottle.Like portrayed by Christina Aguilera in her video clips. I coudnt imagine how those 3 jinns look like though and how they got into Aisya’s body parts?. Anyway, I didnt really want her to continue the rubbish talk. I dont believe in extra terrestrial nor paranormal.

“ Yes.! Now, I can climb up the stairs . No problem. Now I can work”. Aisya continued.

“ err…I don't need a maid” I said.

“oh..no..no… I actually found a new job” . What a relief to hear her answer.

Phew..!!!

To cut the story short, after she was so-called, cured by the so-called powerfull Bomoh, she left for her country to renew her passport and re-visit Malaysia with a new level of health and found a new employer.

'Salak Pondoh' tamed me.

I told about my previous maid who took a leave and never came back. She made me angry then. Not because I couldnt live without her, but , to the fact she made a sudden disappearance.

Recently, she texted me from her country, Indonesia. She asked if I needed a maid. I answered "no, I dont" in a nice tonation.though I could still remember the feeling that got into me when she didnt return home without advance notice, then. I actually need a helper.

Her text said she missed me.

"I miss your Rendang", I replied not wanting to be a hipocrite, as I didnt miss her at all. Rendang is a Malaysian dish.

Last Saturday, she called.

"Ma'am, Im here, back to Malaysia. I want to see you"
"OK, come over then" I openly invited her. Forgive and forget.

She arrived within half an hour. She was so happy to see me.She brought 'ole-ole' from Indonesia.
Ole-Ole (olay-olay) is a slang used by indonesian for a souvenir.

Among others, she got me my favorite Indonesian origin fruit, 'Salak' (Suh-luck).

Im so amazed with this creation of God. This shelled fruit can be mistaken to a reptile. The flat, horny plates forming the covering, designed similar to snake's scales. I wonder if they are from The Dianasour Era.

You may need to be extra careful opening the shell. Its hard and could possibly cut your finger. Unlike its look, the internal part contains a yellowish white edible fruit. Its crispy.
While some types are sourish, the species that I got was sweet.

I love it.!

Right underneath the shell, there is another layer of thin plastic-like covering the flesh .Its edible, somehow I like to eat without.

Becareful when you bite. The seed is as hard as a rock. Do not eat the seed.

The sweet species that I gotten that day is called 'Salak Pondoh'.

She was happy to see me enjoying her Ole-Ole. I ate and ate, pretended listening to her story of what happened that day and what she had gone through. I didnt really bother to hear all. I was too busy peeling Salak, avoiding cuts and enjoying the fruit.

She stay for just a couple of hours. She left with a happy face.

Actually, I've forgotten my anger long-long ago. Let by gone be by gone.
