Cruising in Galapagos Island is an unusual trip that makes your holiday more adventurous and exciting. If you want to enjoy the complete Island, you require at least eight days for covering the whole area. It is always advisable to visit the Island by ship available at variable costs.

These ships are well designed and equipped as they contain everything you require to enjoy your Galapagos Cruises. You can place an advance booking for a luxurious or a cheaper ship according to your budget. Galapagos is a chain of 18 Islands that was discovered by volcano eruption about 5 million years ago. This Island has various hot tourism attractions that makes your visit a life time experience.

Santa Cruz is one of the most lovable destinations located in the middle of Island chain. It is necessary to take a cruise for visiting this area. Once you board the cruise, you will find a guide that makes you familiar with the beautiful destination and varied animals. If you are not prepared with the cruise in advance then hotels on Galapagos Island can also help you for booking a cruise. Cruise not only takes you around the area but also tells you about the beautiful spots where you can click photographs for a memorable experience.

If you are an animal lover then Galapagos Island is the right place to travel. The next beautiful attraction is Hood Island where you can find wild animals. You can click their photographs but not allowed to touch or tease them. If you watch them silently then you can see how animals enjoy their life. People have to follow rules to survive but animals have no rules or restrictions. They are free to live their life according to their own way. These animals are also safe by harsh environment and human torture.
You can walk there along with reptiles and you can even swim with sea lions.

This is quite an incredible experience that makes you more fearless from inside. It is quite common to visit hill station or some green areas. But visit to Galapagos Island is quite unique and equally exciting. You can also play with penguins there. You can find some rare species of birds that are difficult to seek at common places. It is quite unbelievable that you are observing those species so closely. You can also observe how animals eat their food and play with each other.

The next important step to consider is which is the best season to visit Galapagos Island? If you want to see penguins, you should visit Galapagos Island from May to September. December is the month of tortoise and May is the month of sea lions. April is good for snorkelers and also considered as best month for visiting Galapagos Island.

Now it is your choice when you want o visit Galapagos Island and what you want to see there. For visiting Galapagos Island in budget check the tour packages online. Some travel agencies offer exciting deals at very affordable prices that makes your trip the best and in budget.

The Organizers of the 17th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2012 (PIHABF) have developed this annual event to be the largest spectator event in the Philippines. Each year, bigger and better events, competitions and attractions are added to the Fiesta. The Fiesta site at Air Force City, Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, Clark Field has been enlarged to cope with the expected 100,000 visitors who will attend the coming Fiesta 9-12 February, 2012.

2012 Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

To attract return visitors to the Fiesta, new activities are added each year. This year features a host of new displays and participants to thrill the crowds.

This year, the balloon Fiesta will host a total of 26 balloons including several specially shaped balloons. These will include “Iwi the Kiwi,” a kiwi-shaped balloon from New Zealand, and the ”Ice Cream Cone,” the “Birthday Cake,” and “Miss Daisy” from the USA. Belgian owners and pilots will be displaying and flying the orange-shaped “Sunkist Balloon.” A “Yellow Car” shaped balloon is coming from Germany.

Regular-shaped balloons will be coming from the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands Austria, Japan, England, Korea and the Philippines. This year will also be the first time the Fiesta hosts pilots and a balloon from Poland. SM Clark will also be flying their brand new SM balloon for the first time this year.

Parachute drops form a staple of the Fiesta. This year, the Brunei Armed forces will provide a spectacular fifteen-man jump team. Malaysia will also be sending a team of fifteen skydivers. Our own PNP will also have twenty jumpers and there will be at least 15 independent jumpers from around the Philippines and Southeast Asia. In total this means we may have over 60 skydivers and the availability of the PAF C130 could promise a spectacular mass jump. For folks who wish to experience skydiving, we will have two professional skydivers from U.K. with tandem rigs.

The Armed forces of the Philippines have extended an invitation to the US, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and USA to attend a meeting of mutual cooperation. Fortuitously, this will occur immediately prior to the Hot Air Balloon fiesta. The countries attending have willingly accepted the invitation to be part of the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and mark the end of the centennial year of aviation in the Philippines with their presence.

This provides a unique opportunity for fiesta-goers to see a F-16 Fighting Falcon and a C-17 Globemaster III, which will perform fly-bys and displays each day. Our own Philippine Air Force will exhibit and fly their SIAI Marchetti SF260TP turboprop trainers and give search and rescue flying demonstration. Within the show grounds, the PAF will have static displays of their military hardware, weapons and personnel. The Philippine Coast Guard will also perform a daily search and rescue demonstration using an Islander and a Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm Bo 105.

A 5-year restoration project of a classic Boeing Stearman biplane has finally been completed and this year the aircraft – designed in the 1940s – will perform at the fiesta each day. This bright yellow vintage trainer with its massive radial engine is a rarity in the skies above Asia, and the Fiesta is the best place to see this magnificent warbird in action.

This year, we will have the biggest contingent of motorized paragliders ever from Malaysia. More Filipino paraglider pilots will also participate and pilots from Australia and Spain will add to the truly international mix.

Visitors won’t want to miss the thrilling aerobatic routines of Capt. Meynard Halili in his Bellanca Super Decathalon. Loops, rolls, chandelles, stall turns, spins and many other highly complex flight maneuvers are a testament to his considerable skills and precision and the ability of his aircraft to withstand the enormous G-forces imposed during these breathtaking flight maneuvers.

Philippine resident and German Pilot Rolf Dunder will bring his single-seat glider and winch rig to fly above the show grounds each day, proving that you don’t need an engine to wow the crowd at the Fiesta. Achieving flight to 800 meters by means of a steel cable, Rolf will release at this altitude and skillfully find rising currents of air to sustain his flight over the crowds below.

The Philippines has become a destination of choice for many international student pilots taking their first steps into the world of commercial aviation. Many of the schools which offer private and commercial flight courses will have display booths in a dedicated area within the show grounds.

Static displays of aircraft, kites, hobbyist clubs, and military equipment will provide visitors plenty to see and do. The Aviators Ball held during the Fiesta is a good opportunity for pilots and aircraft operators to get together. This year, scholarship will be awarded to two aeronautical engineers from Roxas City.

A kid’s Activity Center sponsored by Crayola and Hot Dog on Stick, Kite making demonstrations and workshops, flight simulators, photo booths, and paint-balling grounds will further ensure that everyone finds something to do throughout the event. Of course, finding refreshing drinks and fast food is a staple for any event of this size. No less than sixty food concessionaires will be on hand to serve a wide variety of food and drinks to thirsty and hungry participant and visitors.

The Angeles City Flying Club will thrill the audience with their formation fly-bys and flour and water bombing competitions. Included in the mix of at least ten ultralight aircraft will be a couple of weight-shift tricycle microlights.

As always, the balloon bursting competition promises to be hotly contested. Many of the flight schools and private aircraft owners take to the skies in an attempt to burst balloons released in front of the show line. As in previous years, the Philippine Navy and Coastguard will also want to participate in this event, showing off their considerable piloting skills.

Radio control aircraft have always been a staple at the Balloon Fiesta. As each year passes, the models get bigger and bigger. We can expect to the see the very latest turbojet fighter aircraft dexterously handled by some of the most skilled radio control pilots around. They sound real; they look real! Once the jets have landed, highly aerobatic piston type aircraft will put on stunning displays of aerobatics to please the crowd.

Many unique aircraft will perform flybys to give the audience a view of the full spectrum of aviation. From corporate business jets to small commuter planes, work horses to training aircraft, the audience will have a chance to see them all.

Throughout the show, ground events will pique the crowd’s interest. Whether this be marching bands from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the colorful Ibon-Ebun Dancers, Flying Dance shows, or military precision drill and marching teams, the Fiesta offers it all on the ground as well as in the air.

Rocketeers will bring a selection of their carefully designed rockets and fire these off during specific show times. Kite enthusiasts and Kite Team Philippines will also perform precision formation displays.

Sponsors of the 17th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta include many titans of the Philippine business community, such as Caltex, Rudy Project, SM City Clark, Global Gateway Logistics City, UPS, Krukspec, Isuzu Philippines, Crayola, Sunkist, Philippine Daily Inquirer, ROX Recreational Outdoor Exchange, Yellow Cab Pizza, Close Up, and Air Asia.

The organizers promise a “Weekend of Everything that Flies” – You are promised this and a whole lot more.

The slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines” stays even if there was a black and white vintage 1951 magazine ad “It’s more fun in Switzerland,” of the Swiss National Tourist Office.

Its more fun in the Philippines

Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez declared it as a ‘coincidence,’ saying, “C’mon, you have to give BBDO more credit than that. The line isn’t a manufactured slogan. It is simply the truth about our country. Don’t be swayed by people who are trying to punch holes in it…

“No one can own the expression ‘it’s more fun’ but it’s very true for the Philippines so it becomes ours,” It comes from human conversation. It only has power if its true. It’s not the most original line in the world,” Jimenez said in his Twitter account.

Jimenez insisted the international marketing strategy slogan crafted by BBDO Guerrero is all about the unique, ever-smiling, happy and fun-loving Filipino people.

“If you look hard enough, you might even find an old ad that says ‘it’s more fun in Alcatraz!’” he added in his tweet, referring to the notorious former US prison.

But some critics panned BBDO, the global advertising agency that came up with what they claimed is not an original idea and asking for P5.6 million payment from the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Last Saturday’s radio DZRH interview of Cesar Chavez with Assistant Secretary and DOT spokesman Benito Bengzon said the department will continue using the slogan to attract tourist to the Philippines as a premier tourist destination.

“We would not back out because we feel that it is an effective campaign. The new tagline is precisely what we offer,” he said, adding that the Twitter trending DOT slogan was not copied from Switzerland.

Bengzon, who has worked with DOT for the past 25 years backed up Secretary Jimenez saying the slogan that has gone viral online minutes after it was announced last Friday is a very effective campaign in attracting more foreign visitors to the Philippines.

But you can’t win them all, some are appreciative of the the slogan but there are also many who suggested over the radio that if DOT will only ask for public suggestions, they would get better ideas instead of paying a copycat foreign ad some 61 years ago in one of the famous ice-capped playground countries of Europe.

Maybe we should wait until the passionate debate dies down and stay a little longer with the old but catchy “Wow, Philippines” which is shorter, but carrying strong strong impact and better recall.

If you want to know the best companies in a particular industry then the best way to go about this is to ask their customers what they think of the service and to see whether or not they would recommend that particular company to others.

Manila Bay Sunset

This is just what holiday Extras have done but they have done it on a much grander scale!

This year 66,000 people have voted in the Holiday Extras Customer Awards (which is great as this last year about a third of this number were voting).

This year the awards were held in London on September 15th and were hosted by the well-known travel writer and radio presenter Simon Calder.

Here is a list of this year’s winners:

- Best Airline: Emirates
- Best Airline Cabin Crew: Emirates
- Best Airline for Value for
Money: easyJet
- Best Airport: Belfast International
- Best Airport Car Park: Edinburgh Park and Fly

It seems that these awards are becoming so popular because of the open an honest way that the public are allowed to choose their own winners. This gives the customers a great opportunity to get their voices heard over the noise of industry bias. You won’t find any fat cats voting in these awards – it’s all down to the customer which is very empowering.

This year the awards were a lavish affair with the travel elite from the top companies in the industry gathering to applaud those who had done well for their customers. There is a great atmosphere around the awards that Holiday Extras are developing as it means that there is a sense of occasion to the awards that people are wanting to be a part of.

Looking forward to next year, the team from Holiday Extras are making sure that the awards are going to continue gathering momentum and continue to enjoy success by encouraging more people to vote and by adding new and interesting categories to the awards.

This year two new categories were added and these were the most inspirational travel film and the best travel guide publisher.

Thirteen top Russian artists embark on a 20-day cultural journey to the Philippines, called, “To the Islands of Sampaguita,” as part of the Creative Expedition to the Philippines – 1st ASEAN Culture Capital to paint the wealth of bio-cultural diversity of our country’s habitat, heritage, history, language and creative industry. This project was organized in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia through trade, tourism, and culture.

Philippine Paintings

“We welcome the distinguished Russian artists to the Philippines and we wish them an enjoyable and pleasant stay in our beautiful country,” says Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez.

“The Department of Tourism (DOT) is intensifying its campaign to capture the Russian tourists, which is a lucrative market for the Philippines. This year, arrivals from this market registered a 30% increase,” he added.

Mr. Vladimir Anisimov, head of the Russian Bureau of Creative Expedition leads the team of top painters and graphic artists, namely: Victoriya Faykova, Olga Yausheva, Rustam Yaushev, Vitali Popov, Luli Petrov, Vladimir Pereyaslavets, Ludmila Yuga, Gregory Poplavsky, Nikolai Pogorelov, Georgy Kozhanov, and Ksenia Rzheshevskaya.

The expedition began in Vigan, Ilocus Sur, a UNESCO declared world heritage site. The next stop was Bohol to experience the famous chocolate hills, tarsiers, old churches, a firefly tour and interaction with the Abatan river community; then Cebu, where they saw the historic connectivity with Europe through the galleon trade. Covered with international travel health insurance, Russian tourists enjoyed traveling in the Philippines natural wonders.

Part of the expedition includes a tour of Dapitan, Zamboanga to have a glimpse of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s life in exile; then on to Baler, to witness the exotic culture-scape of the sea and mountain with indigenous communities. Finally, they will cap their expedition with visits to destinations around Manila including Angono, Rizal, branded as the Arts Capital of the Philippines and Villa Escudero in Quezon.

This journey will include a cultural caregiving UNESCO DREAM Methodology on October 30, a workshop interaction with inmates of the New Bilibid Prison for the celebration of Prison Month.

“We are positive that through this project, seeing the beauty of the Philippines through the artists’ eyes, we will be able to attract more Russians to see for themselves what the Philippines has to offer,” remarked H.E. Nikolay Kudashev, Russian Ambassador to the Philippines.

“The DOT, together with 15 Philippine travel industry partners, recently participated in the 17th Otdykh Leisure fair in Moscow and concluded a selling mission to St. Petersburg, to establish more business linkages with Russian wholesalers and tour operators and position the Philippines as a choice destination for the Russian market. With this kind of people-to-people exchanges, we see our tourist arrivals growing even more,” the tourism chief said. “We hope that interest in the Philippines will be generated in Russia through the paintings of these Russian artists about Philippine scenery and lifestyle, ” he added.

After the expedition, the artists will exhibit more than 50 new Philippine artworks and paintings of the destinations they have been to in the Russian National Museum and other museums in Russia and the Philippines. These exhibits will be dovetailed to support the Department of Tourism’s marketing and promotions efforts in Russia.

This project is made possible through the combined efforts of the Russian Embassy and its Honorary Consulate in Cebu, the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), the Philippine ITI-Earthsavers/UNESCO Dream Center, the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), the office of Senator Angara, local government authorities of Ilocos Sur, Bohol, Cebu and Dapitan, Angono and Baler as well as private sector partners-The Manila Hotel, Annset Holidays and Villa Escudero Plantation and Resort.

The Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in Palawan, the Philippines’ bet for the “New Seven Wonders of the World,” was featured on World Parks Day in Singapore last week.

Puerto Princesa Underground River

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the PPUR was showcased at the Philippine pavilion during Singapore’s twin celebration of Global Community Day and World Parks’ Day on September 24 and 25 .

“Flyers about the PPUR were given away together with tourism brochures, and leaflets about other upcoming Philippine cultural activities in Singapore,” DFA said.

The Puerto Princesa Underground River is reputed to be the longest navigable underground river in the world while the Official Gazette of the Philippine government said in June, “The Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan, Philippines is composed of a long mountain landscape and a beautiful, breathtaking subterranean river that winds through a cave that has been carved into shape by the giant hand of nature.”

“It comes as no surprise that the Puerto Princesa Underground River has made it as one of the 28 finalists in the global search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature,” it added.

With the theme “WaterFire,” the Philippine pavilion exhibited photos of beautiful Philippine volcanoes and bodies of water taken by Pinoygraphers@SG, a group of Filipino photography enthusiasts in Singapore.

In keeping with the water theme, beautifully decorated rain sticks provided by the Puerto Princesa government were displayed at the booth.

Eleven embassies, including the Philippines’, had put up pavilions at the event, which drew an estimated 8,000 visitors over two days.

The other countries represented were China, Finland, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Venezuela.

A highlight of the event was the art installation “Fire on the Water” by U.S.-based artist Barnaby Evans, which involved lighting 60 floating braziers on the reservoir.

For instance, Assistant Secretary for international tourism promotion Benito C. Bengzon Jr. on Monday said that his office was alloted only P466 million for several plans and programs for international market promotion, which is definitely not enough.

“We’ve fallen on hard times, but what can we do, is also true globally. It’s a difficult situation. However, we’ll find ways and means to stretch what’s available for us even with limited resources,” Bengzon said.

Like not competing with big-spending other Asian countries with big in terms TV commercials? “Could be.”

The arrival of Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup has been mentioned by several sectors as a possible ambassadress of goodwill for tourism promotions because of her popularity, beauty and intellect.

Some suggested function for the Gen-San born beauty queen is for her to attend functions and speak about the Philippines’ infinite variety of natural attractions, colorful history, unique art and mixed-race culture.

“We’re open to that but we have to ask Secretary Ramon Jimenez first before making a decision. Ms. Supsup will be a great help in tourism but as to what role or capacity, we still don’t know,” said Bengzon.

Bengzon is leaving for Japan next month for a speaking engagement on aviation where he will encourage the foreign airlines to take advantage of the “open skies policy” which will service tourists/visitors in and out of the country.

“What is important is foreign tourists will come to us to help prop up the tourism industry. We are surrounded by oceans and seas so the best mode of transportation is through air. There are some who take luxury cruise liners but they are far too few than those who arrive by planes.”

Bengzon said he will tell the foreign airlines to take the several routes not serviceable by local planes, which is also in fulfilment of the “pocket open skies policy” favored by Secretary Jimenez.

Americans tend to think of the states as the ultimate melting pot of cultures; what started as a British colony is now a rich chunky stew of virtually every ethnicity of the world. Most would like to think we are a unique happenstance, but a truly unexpected culture formed on the Indonesian archipelago. Over 7,000 islands, collectively known as the great country of the Philippines, have a distinct Eastern culture seamlessly blended with a thick Western influence.

Tamaraw Falls in Puerto Galera

Because of the colonization of the world by Europe, the Philippines became another melting pot of cultures similar to the United States. With its own rich cultural traditions, Club Med worthy beaches and coastal areas, and expansive tropical forests; the island country is an often times missed traveling hotspot for tourists. Here are some of the cultural influences which have been blended into the Philippines:

Spanish

One of the most prevalent cultures on display in the Philippines is that of the Spanish. In 1565 when they arrived, they left a plethora cultural remnants the Philippians still use today. The Spanish language is the most commonly used. When the Spanish arrived, they made it a mission to give everyone a name in their own tongue in order to assimilate the country into their rule.

The Spanish also brought with them the Catholic religion which can be witnessed in some gruesome crucifixion rituals still practiced today. Spanish architecture takes a prominent role in most towns, where large Catholic churches became the center of town.

American

After the Spanish American war, the Treaty of Paris gave control of the Philippines over to the Americans. In an article on NPR about the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, it is said that there were large exhibits displaying native cultures. With the recent acquisition of the islands, the country was given the largest exhibit; a 47 acre site where 1000 native people lived in replica huts in Forest Park.

Today, anything with a “Made in America” sticker or label on it is favored by people in the country. They are also infatuated with pop music, television, and other pop culture from America.

French

One of the most conspicuous absences from the list of countries who conquered or settled in the Philippines is France. While the French did not have as much of an impact on the economic or political means of the culture, their influence can be seen with the extravagant food structure and the importance placed on meals throughout the day. In France, food is seen as a social occasion and the Filipinos have the same mentality while eating about six times a day. The writer Felix Roxas said in a newspaper, “He who has not stayed in Paris has not seen the world and has not lived.”

Chinese and Japanese

While Western influence on the Philippines is prevalent, the two major powers of the far-east, China and Japan, were settling the country long before any Europeans or Americans. Through various occupations and economic ties, these two countries have had the most influence on the islands.

With cultures rubbing off on the Filipinos for several centuries and their own indigenous population being an important cultural factor; this group of islands in Southeast Asia is cultural goldmine.

One of the most famous of all the rides at all the Disneylands in the world is the much loved “It’s A Small World.” I have to admit that this was a song I loved when I was a child as it was one of the first things I learned in a language that wasn’t Filipino.

Enjoying the Ride

We learned how to sing in German, French, English, and a few other languages. Sure, all we learned was “It’s a small world after all” but for a bunch of little kids, this was the first time that we were really exposed to the fact that we could travel all over the world and meet people from everywhere…and, I might add, that the world was a beautiful place and theres so much to discover.

Europe

With that being said, you can be sure that I took the time to enjoy the 15 minute boat cruise that takes you through Hong Kong Disneyland’s “It’s a small world.”

India

I really enjoyed looking at the dolls wearing different national costumes while singing their own version of the song…they seemed like they were alive and even though they were all very pleasant and nice, all it gave me was the last song syndrome.

Indonesia

By the way, you should really try it, especially if you have little ones with you. Looking at the façade of the colorful castle, theres no doubt, this is HK Disneyland’s largest indoor castle.

Korea

The ride takes the voyagers through thirty countries and some of the famous Disney characters also make an appearance. From the yodeling snows of the Alps to the hula hula of the Hawaiian Islands to the plains of Spain to a Mexican fiesta, we saw the world in less than twenty minutes and all along the way there was merriment and laughter too.

Outside the Castle

From Asia to Africa, the Middle East to the Americas, and of course wonderful Europe. And, lest we forget, there’s a world under the ocean too complete with Ariel the Mermaid.

This is a great ride and a great experience. It’s so nice that we care and it’s time we’re aware it’s a small world after all.

Every Kid dreamed of taking a cruise through the jungle and seeing the many wonderful animals of Africa along the way. I know that for me, this was one of my primary fantasies when I was growing up. I wanted to get on a boat and go see the world. Not surprising really.

The Kingdom

So, you can guess that when I got to Hong Kong Disneyland, we had a short trip to Adventureland and got on the jungle cruise. Sure, it’s not really a jungle cruise and there is not really an element of danger, but still this fun and exhilirating attraction is a great way to see some of your childhood fantasies come to life.

You can get on and take pictures to your hearts content and just in case you were curious, here are a few things you may not have known before that will make this ride that much better.

The Tree House

The original Jungle River Cruise first appeared at the California Disneyland in 1955 and while many of the original rides have since gone away, this one has been amusing and delighting families ever since. Here in Hong Kong Disneyland, it has a few surprises which make it different from the original.

The narration is in Mandarin, Cantonese, or English and while they have the same general feel, each one is a little bit different so if you’ve taken the English version, the Cantonese version might surprise you with a thing or two. In particular, the humor is very different.

Wild Elephant

While the ride is safe, you can expect to get a little bit wet on this jungle cruise and as a result, you might feel more than a little surprise and even a bit of fear. You are not in danger, but you might feel your heart pounding anyway.

By the way, this isn’t the same cruise as in other parks. Here you not only see the animals and jungle but you can witness the fire and water gods waging a battle that has some of the coolest special effects I’ve seen on any ride. Hold on to your imagination when you take this one.

Also, if you want to stay dry, be sure to tell the attendants when you are getting on. I saw one woman get a little upset when her face was splashed, but honestly, she needed to wash off all that makeup anyway. LOL. Overall, I would recommend this ride to everyone and Yes! I will definitely comeback.
