iPhone Friday – What’s A Pay Phone?

Not long ago this wall would have been packed with business men making phone calls while waiting for their train ride home from Back Bay station in Boston. Today everyone has a cell phone in hand and can call, email, text or video chat wherever they want to whoever they want all around the world.

Time changes everything and technology is one of the fastest moving and most effected by time. It’s hard to believe only a few years ago the smart phone of today was only a dream, Instagram wasn’t even imagined, and cell phone photography was a joke. Today if you don’t own a smart phone you live in the “dark ages”, we share millions of photographs a day through apps like Instagram and this photograph was taken with and edited on my iPhone.

Daily Photo – Under the Stars

As I’ve been going through my archives of almost 10,000 photographs I try and focus on benchmarking my improvement in composition. I think as time goes on this is one of the most obvious areas of photography and has one of the largest impacts. By composing photographs properly we’re able to tell our story better and use elements within the scene to guide the viewers eyes.

I hope you like this shot from under the stars I took while on a trip to Georgia last year.

Daily Photo – Look At Those Eyes

I took this quick snapshot of Riley last summer after photographing birds at my parents house. It was shot at an ISO of 4000! Using Lightroom’s noise reduction and sharpening tools I was able to remove the noise while retaining a sharp image.

Daily Photo – The View from the Top

Last summer I hiked to the top of Mt. Monadnock in southern New Hampshire it was an awesome accomplishment, but it definitely opened my eyes to how out of shape I was/am. I can’t wait to try and conquer this hill again the summer.

I wanted to share this photograph with you today to really illustrate something important about taking photographs of vast landscapes like this and that is to show scale if you can. The two people hiking down the mountain in the lower right side of the frame really let the viewer know how big this scene really is and it adds a bit of extra interest to the overall photograph.

iPhone Friday – A Little Morning Dew

One of the best additions to the iPhone is the Olloclip 3-in-1 adapter and my favorite lens of the three is the macro lens which gives you a 10 times magnification at a 11-12mm focal distance. It might not be the sharpest macro lens out there, and at such a short focal distance you’re not going to be capturing any fast moving insects with this, but the fact that I can get this much detail out of a water drop just from my iPhone amazes me.

Daily Photo – The Sunflower

As it’s obviously a few months too early for these giant flowers to be blooming today’s photo is another one from my 2012 archives. The thing is, after publishing so many photos, I can’t remember if this one was publish or not – I know I fully intended to share it – but part of me feels like it never made its way to the final phase.

Daily Photo – Swan Reflection

A while ago I shared a pretty cool action shot of this swan landing on the pond. Well, just a few minutes later, I captured this photograph as the swan swam past me. I do wish the water was a bit more still for this photo, but you can’t be that picky when you’re out photographing wildlife and nature – it is what it is.

Thanks for taking time to make Phogropathy part of your day. I do hope you like the high contrast black and white edit that I chose for this one – I think it works really well for the subject.
