Nokia have now launched their new N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition, this is Nokia’s first device to use the new wide-area high-speed mobile WiMAX networks. You should expect to see this new internet tablet some time in the summer of 2008 in the United States.

WiMAX will have grater speeds than on all the existing networks, you as a user can expect speeds from 2Mbps to 4Mbps; however you might just get lucky and receive bursts of up to 10Mbps.

The third phone unveiled today by Nokia at the Consumer Electronics Show 2007 in Las Vegas was the Nokia N93i, which was leaked a little ago. The company refers to the N93i as a "digital camcorder and multimedia computer in one" with "DVD-like quality video capture". We'll see about that.

The N93i runs on Symbian OS S60 3rd Edition and it records at up to 30 frames per second, stereo audio and digital stabilization. It also features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 3x optical zoom, autofocus and close-up mode. Unlike the N76, the N93i comes with a 1GB miniSD card, which can records up to 45 minutes. Other features include a 2.4" main display of up to 16 million colors, joystick, dedicated camera keys, WLAN and Universal Plug and Play.

The Nokia N93i will also start shipping in the first quarter of 2007 for the price of about 600 euros ($784).

Nokia Wireless AD-42W Audio Gateway

Nokia announced a new gadget that will enable you to stream music from your phone to your home stereo or Bluetooth headsets. Problem is (for now) that this gadget, the AD-42W Audio Gateway, only supports the Nokia 8800 phone.

Nokia Wireless AD-42W Audio Gateway supports phones with the A2DP Bluetooth profile and currently only the Nokia 8800 supports that. More Nokia phones that will support the A2DP Bluetooth profile are coming this year. The AD-42W Audio Gateway is expected out in Q2 2006.

We say: It´s nice to be able to stream music from the phone to a home stereo, but do I really need to buy some extra gadget for this? I use my iPod when I listen to music on our home stereo and there is no need for extra gadgets or plugins - just cables.

In-Ear Headphones for your Nokia

I use the N70 radio and my music player (OggPlay) every day and that is why I´m prepared to invest a little more in the headphones I use. You see I just lost my old headphones and decided to find out what´s available right now and could I find something outperforming my previous Koss ear plugs? It was a nice suprice when I noticed that a finnish Hi-fi magazine had a review of headphones for cell phones. The magazine tested 7 in ear plugs in the price range from 28 to 109 euros (35 - 140 $). Just what I needed.

The conclusion after reading the review is that though you are prepared to pay a little more for your headphones it´s not worth paying more if you get good or even better quality for less. According to the review the Apple iPod In-Ear Lanyard Headphones (Amazon 30$) aren´t as good as the Koss Spark Plugs (Amazon 6 $). I agree. I have been using the Apple In-Ear headphones with my iPod and the sound lacks bass and is way behind the sound that comes from the cheap, but good performing Koss plugs.

The best in-ear headphones according to the magazine were the Sony MDR-EX90LP. The Koss Plugs were the best choise - good quality at an amazingly low price. Other heaphones tested were Creative Zen Aurvana, Cresyn LMX-E630SN, Philips SHE9500 and Sennheiser CX300.

I say: If you need headphones I recommend the KOSS Stereo In Ear Ear Plugs (Amazon store link).

Nokia just released a new version of the Nokia PC Suite (6.82). New features include the Software Updater. You still have to download the software updater separately. Maybe the upcoming versions will have everything bundled into one package?

Nokia Music Manager

Slow, buggy and difficult to use. This is what people say about the Nokia Music Manager. I had to find out if this was true and used the software to upload music to my N70. Ok I agree at some point, but I still think I will use this software when uploading songs to my phone.

With the Nokia Music Manager you can see how much free memory you have on your phone. That´s useful.

And convert your music to a mobile friendly format (AAC).

And then converting...

The upload process took some time. 1 song with bluetooth (7.77 MB) took 4 minutes. If you have a USB cable I recommend using it. With USB the transfer took less than 1 min.

Nokia N95 Software Update

I made the first software update for my new Nokia N95. If you are a Nokia smartphone user you might know you can update your phone software over the air or using a PC and the Nokia PC Suite. It´s very easy and I recommend doing it. Usually the updates are small bug fixes, but if you are lucky you might get a better camera by updating your phone - It´s all about software these days...

The firmware update I performed was to 11.0.0.26. This update should improve speed, imaging and more.

Thanks to the update I lost all my contacts and some recently installed applications :-(. I didn´t loose all the programs I installed since I got the phone. I lost Shozu and ScreenCapture, but didnt loose Opera Mini and Widsets...
