The new HTC Droid Eris has been in the past likened to a rebadged HTC Hero, so now that the guys over at engadget mobile have managed to get hold of the HTC Droid Eris they have compared the two in a face off video.

Of course we have said HTC Droid Eris, HTC Hero face off video for your viewing pleasure below which compares the generic HTC Hero, the Sprint HTC Hero and the HTC Droid Eris which are basically very similar handsets.

They say there are plusses and minuses in all of the handsets. Anyway the video last just over seven minutes so I’ll just let you hit it up and enjoy.

Apple obviously isn’t too happy about the iPhone being hacked and so on the heels of the recent blacksn0w unlock solution being released; Apple is apparently looking for an “iPhone OS Platform Security Manager,” and has posted a new job listing for said post according to network world.

Which basically means Apple is looking for someone to head up a development team whose task is to secure the iPhone boot-up and operating system installation along with other iPhone security.

Thus it looks as if Apple is stepping up in trying to out do the iPhone hackers like George Hotz and the iPhone Dev Team and make sure they can’t crack the iconic handset or at least make it much harder to accomplish.

Apparently according to an article over on unwired view, Samsung has announced a deal with Qualcomm to fork over some $1.3 billion for the privilege of using Qualcomm’s CDMA, WCDMA, and OFDMA patents for the next fifteen years.

Apparently the new Samsung, Qualcomm deal was signed “under most favourable conditions,” mainly due to Samsung being Qualcomm’s most important customer, and it is said that the $1.3 billion will be an upfront payment with additional royalties thereafter.

Telecoms Korea has said that Samsung‘s $1.3 billion accounts for roughly 80 percent of Qualcomm’s net income for 2009.

Speaking of Chinese knock offs, feast your eyes upon the Hi-Pod phone, which for a better descriptions is a right knock-off chunky plastic phone which sports a very imitation iPod click-wheel, hence the rip-off name.

The guys over at ubergizmo spotted this ugly beast of a mobile phone which features a 1 inch LCD display and FM radio support and a numeric keypad, and what seems to be the usual in China, 2 SIM slots, audio jack, built in speaker and USB connectivity.

Price wise the Hi-Pod mobile phone will set you back $85 that is of course if you want to be seen with it, and we are not too sure if it is available outside China.

You can always leave it to China’s counterfeit merchants to come up with a totally tasteless mobile phone, and this time they have sunk to the depths with fake gold, and fake diamonds in this rather tacky attempt to cash in on the Michael Jackson name.

Yes it’s the Michael Jackson mobile phone in all its blinged out fake glory as reported by mashable, and if you are tempted to pick up this Michael Jackson phone, fist you’ll have to import it from China, and second you’ll get a DVD of one of Michael Jackson’s live performances.

The bling is fake so we reckon the DVD will probably be a fake too, but if you should happen across one of these feel free to let us know.

Although the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is somewhat seen as a replacement for the BlackBerry Bold 9000, it is more of a companion as Research In Motion managing director, Adele Beachley has said “We are not trying to replace the 9000 — it is still selling well. We are providing a choice in the market.”

Quick spec reminder…6.2cm light-sensing display, full QWERTY keyboard, touch sensitive trackpad, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm jack, and microSD expansion.

We reported not too long ago on a Dell Mini 3iX Android based smartphone heading for Brazil, well apparently the Dell Mini 3iX is now also headed for the USA, as unwired view reports that the FCC has just approved the Dell Mini 3iX smartphone.

The Dell Mini 3iX packs GSM 850/1900 and UNTS bands so all that’s really needed is a combined announcement from AT&T and Dell.

Spec wise the Dell Mini 3iX sports a 3.5 inch touch screen, A-GPS, Microsoft Exchange, a 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus and WiFi, but no word as to which Android OS version the Dell Mini 3iX will run.

Apparently the word is Best Buy Mobile representative could sell the Motorola Droid as of yesterday the 5th, so if you haven’t got the Droid bug yet it may be worth checking with your local Best Buy store.

Furthermore they are also reporting that Wal-Mart also was selling Droid early, and so has Target Mobile Solutions.

The image above is via BGR and got to admit the BlackBerry Curve 8900 does look good in white, I personally have the iPhone 3GS 32GB version and chose white over the black one, white must be addictive or something who knows.

There are no details on the release or price but we will keep you posted, will you be getting the all new white BlackBerry Curve 8900?

It seems the Motorola Droid is a phenomenon and could be a great competitor against the Apple iPhone 3GS and of course the BlackBerry Storm2, this is one we will let you answer so we will give you a little insight for you to think about.

The Motorola Droid on Verizon with a two-year service plan will cost you $199.99 which is basically on par with the Apple iPhone 3GS and BlackBerry Storm2, so price wise the DROID is up there with the others, the Moto Droid is definitely a mobile smartphone right up there to make the market think again.

When you think about the specifications of the Droid it seems to be a little better on paper, we mentioned not so long ago about the camera side of things and how it compares to the iPhone, and what about the fact of the Droid having Google’s Android 2.0 operating system which is a big deal because it is open to developers which means we can focus on customization and personalization.

Do you think that once Android Apps get to the sort of figures Apple has that the Droid can top the iPhone? All in all we see that the Motorola Droid handset will be something special and very hard to beat once all the creases are ironed out. Please vote below using our poll systems of what you think.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Verizon has now given confirmation about its Motorola Droid tethering plan, and trust us it will hurt your pocket.

If you want the ability to connect your Motorola DROID with your laptop it is going to be at a hefty cost, you can use the handset as a wireless modem not sure when this will all happen Network World has given some pricing details.

It will cost an extra $30 per month which basically doubles the Droid-related fees, the price tag as said is $30 for Mobile Broadband Connect which will get you 5GB of data transfer, Verizon do charge 5 cents for each additional megabyte over that limit.

As it doubles the cost of the data plan that is on top of the subscriber’s voice plan it means you pay a total of $60 per month for “unlimited” data access on handset or laptop, for more information please visit Engadget.
