Micromax on Wednesday, May 15th launched their A88 Canvas Music Android smartphone that offers superior sound experience with the JBL Tempo Headset that comes along with the handset out-of-the-box. Micromax A88 Canvas Music sports a 4.5-inch TFT display with resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The device is powered by a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT 6577 processor with 512MB RAM and runs Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system. It features a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and also a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The white Nexus 4 is a sort of golden unicorn for Android enthusiasts, appearing every now and again cloaked in rumour. The latest of these appearances was at Google I/O, where a Google employee showed off his pearly white Nexus device to the world’s press.

According to site Android and Me, the white Nexus 4 will herald the coming of the next version of Android, 4.3. That numbering suggests that we’ll see a more minor update that’ll still be called Jelly Bean, instead of the previously anticipated 5.0 Key Lime Pie update.

So what’ll appear in the new version of Android 4.3? Well, the developer conference held a few answers.

One shoe-in appears to be support for a new Bluetooth standard, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy. That should allow for app developers to sip battery much more efficiently when keeping devices paired, like the Pebble smartwatch, the FitBit One and other fitness accessories. The hardware inside the Nexus 4 already supports the specification, so it’s just a case of adding support for Low Energy Bluetooth in the software.

Another is an upgrade to how graphics are rendered with Open GL ES 3.0 support. Everything should happen a lot more smoothly, and there’s even the possibility of new effects. Of course, these will need to be used by developers before you’ll notice them – it’s not like every app will gain sparkling ponies on every page.

But what about hardware changes – will the Nexus 4 in White be a paint job and nothing more, or might we see some additional hardware upgrades?

Well, it’s hard to tell. We had heard earlier this year that Google were working on a new Nexus 4 with support for LTE networks (famously not included in the first release due to carrier complexities) and even additional memory, up to 32 GB from 16. Both upgrades make sense and would no doubt prove popular, but Google may wait to introduce either or both changes with an entirely new model rather than just a Nexus 4.

At the moment, the most likely answer is that we’ll see the Nexus 4 in white, but without any additional hardware upgrades. It seems like if Google did have those on the cards, Google I/O would have been a pretty good place to unveil them.

It’s not the most exciting answer, but we won’t know for sure if it’s indeed the case until that June 10th date comes and goes. Hold out hope for an improved Nexus 4, but don’t count on it.

The Micromax leakster on Twitter, @MMXNewscaster has come up with a leaked image of the rumored Micromax Canvas A92 smartphone. The image was posted on in a tweet by @MMXNewscaster on Monday, May 20th. The photo shows the front of the handset which showcases similar design as of the existing Canvas smartphones with three capacitive touch button at the bottom, rounded corners and a large display.

The tweet gave less of the details about the handset, but only put light on being powered by a dual-core processor. Neither there are any details on when it will be launched or how much it will be priced. We don’t even know if Micromax is working on Canvas A92 phone or the report is just another rumor. As of record @MMXNewscaster has been right on leaks Canvas A115 3D and Canvas A111.

Canvas lineup of devices have become popular in India as the devices feature large displays and amazing features that we do not find in smartphones from any other India-based handset-makers. Rumor has it that HTC will launch R7 and R12 Windows Blue RT tablets in the Indian market soon. According to the sources, it was rumored back in the month of December last year, and reportedly, it will be released soon. Both the tablets are rumored to have a good list of specifications and features integrated with modern technology and innovative ideas to gain the attraction of the users. However, the pricing of these two tablets are unknown and unconfirmed yet, but will soon be declared. It is notable that the tablets correspond to the respective screen size, and comes along with several other features.

HTC R7 comes with numerous features that the Taiwanese manufacturer has come up with. The R7 will feature a 7-inch of Full HD display and will be powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz along with 2GB of RAM for smoother performance. It is also rumored that the tablet will come with 16GB internal storage which can be expanded by up to 32 GB through microSD card slot. It will also feature a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with HD picture and video recording ability. The HTC Tablet price in India will probably be on the lower side to compete with the major brands that have made a strong claim in the market.

The connectivity options of this HTC R7 includes Wi-Fi, LTE/HSPA+ compatibility is also expected, Bluetooth, and A-GPS connection features as well. However, NFC, HDMI, and DLNA connections are not expected in this tablet.

Another production of HTC Windows Blue RT is the R12 tablet which will also be loaded with similar features as R7 tablet. It will also feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor of 2.3 GHz clock speed, a 13-megapixel rear camera, internal memory of 16GB which is expandable up to 32GB, and so on. However, it will have a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels which is different from the smaller version of tablet. It is also said to feature LTE radio, and the chipset will have a better connectivity. Other than these features, it will also comprise NFC and HDMI connectivity as per rumors.

There were rumors last week that Lava International is planning to launch Xolo X910 smartphone, successor to Xolo X900 which was the first Android phone powered by an Intel processor. After last week’s rumors the handset has now been listed on popular online shopping portal Flipkart, that too from the renowned electronics seller WS Retail on Flipkart. The listing of Xolo X910 on Flipkart gives us detailed information on the specs along with photos of the device.

The images show us a white color sleek device with three physical home and navigation buttons below the display and XOLO branding imprinted on the back along with Intel Inside logo. Xolo X910 is slightly slimmer than its predecessor, has lower resolution display while the screen size is 4.3-inch compared to 4-inch display size of Xolo X900. It has 5-megapixel camera compared to 8-megapixel camera of Xolo X900. Xolo X910 will have 4GB of internal storage compared to 16GB of Xolo X900, but the handset also has a microSD slot to expand storage by up to 32GB. Xolo X910 will be powered by the same 1.6GHz Intel Medfield SoC, 1GB RAM and will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The listing of Xolo X910 did not give any information on the pricing and availability date, but we can be sure that Xolo X910 will be launched soon and that the reports are true for the fact that the same seller, WS Retail is the official seller of Xolo X1000 on Flipkart.

Pretty much the only hardware announcement of the day wasn’t a new product in its own right. Instead, Google announced a Google-branded Samsung Galaxy S4. Like a Nexus device, it comes with a completely stock version of Android with none of the Samsung bloatware. That means it keeps the phone’s best features – its powerful hardware and large range of S4 accessories - without its biggest weakness. Because it’s running stock Android, it can be kept on the bleeding edge of Android releases and can also be more easily tinkered with, thanks to an unlocked bootloader. While it isn’t a new phone, it’s still pretty cool. The Google Galaxy S4 will be available from Google Play from June 26th for $649.

Google Play Music All Access

Yes, Spotify and Rdio just got a new competitor. All Access is a subscription-based streaming service that grants access to Google’s extensive library for $7.99 a month (or $9.99 a month for late adopters). There’s a 30 day trial available now to US residents. The service is noteworthy for combining music from the other two sources of Google Music: the online store and your own uploaded tunes. It’s also got Google’s excellent recommendation tech, working hard to give you radio stations based on songs and entirely new suggestions to expand your horizons.

New Android features

Google also announced plenty of new features for Android developers to integrate into their own apps. There were some cool things to do with location-based features (like low-battery-cost location, geofencing and activity-type detection) and synced notifications across devices, but the gaming features are the most interesting to me. Google have added support for a wide range of gaming necessities, like multiplayer matchmaking, achievements, leaderboards and cloud saves. These new features are already rolling out in popular titles, so definitely give them a go.

Google’s official device Nexus 4 is expected to launch in India by Friday, May 17th and is now available for pre-orders from Flipkart. According to reports Nexus 4 will not be launched in India by Google, instead LG will be launching the device in India. LG manufactures the Nexus 4 handset for Google.

Flipkart is taking pre-orders for the 16GB version of Nexus 4 handset for Rs 25,990 with shipping expected to begin in fourth week of May 2013. The device appeared for pre-orders in India only few hours before the Google I/O in San Francisco, where Google it is believed that Google will introduce the 32GB version of Nexus 4 device along with new Android 4.3 version. It is being expected that LG will also launch the 8GB version of the handset later which will be priced around Rs 20,000.

LG Nexus 4 features a 4.7-inch True HD IPS LCD display with pixel density of 318 ppi. Being a Google Nexus smartphone, it is the first phone to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system. The device is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM and dedicated Adreno 320 graphics unit. It features an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash. The camera is capable of recording Full HD videos. It also has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video-chat. The handset is equipped with 2,100 mAh battery and supports all standard connectivity features.

Nokia today at their event in London announced their new Lumia 925 Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The device is the successor to Lumia 920 with enhancements in Lumia 920′s PureView imaging technology along with Optical Image Stabilization, but without the polycarbonate unibody design. Lumia 925 is the first Lumia device to get a metal design, it has an aluminium frame around the body, in which is set the front panel of the phone and the polycarbonate back.

It has been more than a week since Nokia announced that they will be holding an event in London where they will unveil their next Lumia smartphone. First it was rumored that Nokia will unveil Lumia 928 at their event in London, but the device is now official. Nokia announced the Lumia 928 on Friday, May 10th on their Conversations Blog, the device will be available exclusively from Verizon Wireless for $99.99 after $50 mail-in rebate on two-year contracts. So, the unveiling of Lumia 928 is already ruled out.

Next comes the rumor that Nokia will unveil Lumia 925 smartphone which will be the global variant of Lumia 928 that was announced on Verizon Wireless’ network in the US. Lumia 925, codenamed Nokia Catwalk will feature PureView technology with Optical Image Stabilization of Lumia 920. It will have 8.7-megapixel camera that will perform amazingly in low-light while also keeping your photos and videos blur-free.

A promo on UK television broadcasting since this weekend teases the next Lumia that Nokia will unveil tomorrow. The commercial reveals only the camera of the handset, flash and sleek body believed to be carved in Aluminium. The handset will feature a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor. It is being reported that Lumia 625 will run Windows Phone 8 GDR2 bringing a small set of features to existing Windows Phone 8 mobile OS. It is also said that if not launch on May 14th then Nokia Lumia 625 will possibly launch later in June at an event by Nokia.

Samsung Galaxy Note II users on Vodafone Australia would be delighted to know that the device will now run on 4G LTE speeds as the carrier is now rolling an update bring the 4G LTE connectivity to the device. The device already supports 4G LTE connectivity, it is just that it was not activated for the handset. The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update now rolling turns on this feature for your Galaxy Note II.

The update brings 4G LTE device, you can enable it from Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and select LTE option. Along with it, the update also brings new updated Flipboard, update for which was released yesterday on Google Play Store for all Android devices. There are also some of the fixes and stability improvements.

The update is rolling out over-the-air and also via Samsung Kies, which will be available to users gradually. Not all Galaxy Note II users on Vodafone Australia will get the update in one go, it will be rolled out in phases over 14 days from the date (May 8th) on beginning of the roll-out. The update measures 280MB in size when update over-the-air while updating via Samsung Kies will measure 2GB.

Nokia started rolling out Windows Phone 7.8 update for their Lumia 900 smartphone in February, but that left out AT&T’s version of Lumia 900. Yesterday Nokia Care US in a tweet announced that the update is now also rolling for the AT&T version of Lumia 900.

The delayed roll-out of WP 7.8 update for AT&T Lumia 900 deceived the users for the second time, first is when there was a bug in the wireless data connection which was fixed later via an update. The WP 7.8 update does not have much to bring to the handset, it only updates the handset with the new Live Tiles of Windows Phone 8, improved lock screen security and ability to share internet connection. Users won’t see any big change to their device after the update. To get the update users are required to connect their phone to a PC or Mac and get the update via Zune software for PC or Windows Phone application for Mac.

Lumia 900 users may also be delighted to see a little change in their handset with only a few new added functions, or they may be thinking of switching their handset as Lumia 900 will never get any update after this WP 7.8 update. Probably a small patch to fix bugs may be released, but nothing more is expected as the handset is never gonna get to the Windows Phone 8 version. Users may even think of switching to any smartphone.

Lava International has announced another addition to their Xolo series of smartphones – Xolo Q700. Xolo Q700 if the first quad-core Android smartphone under the Xolo brand that will have a price tag of under Rs 10,000. Lava International launched Xolo Q700 dual-sim smartphone for Rs 9,999 and is also being listed on Flipkart for the same price, not available for purchase though.

Xolo Q700 sports a 4.5-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) IPS Display with pixel density of 245 ppi. The device is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MTK6589W-M processor with a PowerVR SGX544 dedicated graphics core. Xolo Q700 features a 5-megapixel autofocus camera on the back with LED flash, capable of recording 720p HD videos. It also has a VGA front-facing camera. Samsung yesterday announced the latest addition to their Galaxy lineup of smartphone – the Galaxy Core. Galaxy Core is a mid-range Android smartphone ideal for multitasking features. We told you about the availability of Galaxy S4 in the US, but that time Verizon was silent about the release of the Galaxy S4 smartphone on their network. Now we have information on the carriers interest in offering Samsung’s flagship handset to customers in the US. The Galaxy S4 for Verizon Wireless is now live on pre-orders on the carrier’s website for $199.99 on two-year contracts after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Verizon is offering the handset in both White Frost and Black Mist color options. The device will be available in Verizon stores starting from May 30th. Galaxy S4 is already available on other leading carriers, including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, out of them T-Mobile is offering the handset for the cheapest at $149.99 on two-year contracts. Sprint offering it for $149.99 on new line of two-year contract for a limited time, that too is an website-only deal. AT&T is selling the device for $199.99 on same agreement for two years. All the carriers are offering the 16GB model of the device.

Earlier it was said that Verizon may launch the device on May 15th or May 22nd during their planned event at the CTIA Wireless show. But now that Verizon has released the handset on pre-orders with availability from May 30, it seems like May 22nd will be the day when Nokia Lumia 928 or HTC One will be launch on the carrier. We’ve just received an email from the Samsung India eStore stating that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available in India from April 27th. Samsung will start selling the Galaxy S4 smartphone from Saturday, April 27th on their Samsung India eStore. The email we received tells customers to “Set 4 Launch”, and is targeting to the Galaxy S4 registration page on the webstore.

The email does not mention anything about the price of the handset, but we expect it would be priced between Rs 42,000-45,000. Although the price of the device is not announced yet but retailers around the web are ready to sell the handset on their website. Flipkart, Indiatimes Shopping and Saholic have started registering customers’ interest in Galaxy S4, they will let them know via email when they will stock the phone. Sellers on Tradus have started booking the device with a nominal payment of Rs 999.

The Galaxy S4 smartphone has been on pre-orders in the UK where the shipping was expected to begin April 27th earlier, but now they are expecting to start shipping the pre-ordered items from May 3rd. While according to the email we received, there are no delays in the shipping of the handset in India, as the first stock of Galaxy S4 in the global market is supposed to begin on April 27th.
