We got him this way a few months ago, and after we had to get rid of my dog Bella, we are on the fence about getting a kitty for Nemo to hang out with, he's already an attention seeker, not sure if another fella in the mix would be a good idea.. :)

Playing with low and high lights

Playing with low and high lights is a total blast. It's what you can do when your in a low light indoors setting, and feeling frisky. These shots that I have in today's post, are actually from the lights of my husband's computer. He's got like the rainbow in there, little flashes of lights here and there, and then two big fans as well. So big that I get cold sitting next to the darn tower, but I can't be picky, they light up!

I know that there are settings to be set, and options to be utilized when working with low lights, but I don't do any of them. I just put my camera on Auto, and let it work itself out. The shutter speed is really slow, I don't use a flash and my camera takes about 3-5 seconds before it let's me preview the picture sometimes. I get only slightly the results as you see in the pictures. What I do for post processing, is adjust the hue, sharpness, and dodge some of the lowlights up a bit, to bring out the color.

I imagine I will play with more lights in the future, and one day Iw ant to go down to the bridge over the freeway, and get some night shots of the traffic. I've seen the pictures around a ton, they are inspirational, only because I want to master the technique, and Brian over at Epic Edits did a fabulous shot of a 22 lane highway, it's insane! It was his first time doing the long exposure, and they turned out great. Go check them out for yourself. :)

Meet the Photographer

You can guess who that is if you wish, There are no prizes for correct guesses though, I'm cheap. :p

I began photography when my sweet Mother in Law gave me a FujiFilm FinePix S700for my birthday in the summer. That's when I really discovered what I can do with a camera. It may not be rated very high, or liked much, but what I have done with that camera, most others have not done. I still heart that camera, but this Christmas I received another present, this time, it was a huge upgrade, it was the Pentax K110D

! My first dslr, although I have to admit, I didn't know what that mean, but you'd better believe I do now! Considering I have only been doing photography for just 6 months now, I say, I have come a long way.

I have been a part of deviant art since April 2006. (see my page here)I first started with Poetry, then moved onto Digital Art, which I found fascinating. All with the Aid of Adobe Photoshop, thanks to my friend, who upgraded, and didn't need his old one anymore. I still have a passion for both photography and digital art. It is argued that photos that have been manipulated far past their original photograph, that it's considered digital art. I think not. I think whatever medium that you want to use to adjust your photographs to make your point across, should not alter the category it falls under. After all it is a photograph. Unless you manipulate that photograph with more then the original photo, then it is still a photograph.

Well enough rambling for now I suppose. Tomorrow's theme is an item around my house. I figured that if I did a theme everyday, then I could focus my energy on that one theme. So every post will contain an idea for the next post, so stay tuned! :)

Photographing a Fork..

There is a contest going on that's being ran by Neil Creek it's so oddball that I just had to enter. It's to photograph something including a fork. It's about taking the mundane and making it not so mundane. The idea of my photograph came out of nowhere. I hadn't photographed any marbles lately, so I knew I wanted to include that. I also knew that there was no way that anyone else would pick that, so it'd be unique. I wanted to play on the shadows of the image, so I used a small lamp and that was it. No flash, this image, is not photoshop except a resize, and border. I think it turned out like a good picture, not really conveying a message really, but I think it suits it fine.

The Old Fill up Station

cannot believe I missed out on posting yesterday, it was just a really busy busy day, but it's all just shame on me. lol. The picture to the left here, is actually a really old photo that I went back and touched up on. It was taken last summer, and I always intended to get around to it, and so I finally did. What I wanted to do was to create sort of a vintage style, something that reminds you of long ago, and I have yet to master that technique, but I achieved a good result I think.

You'd be surprised at how many great photos you have if you just take the time to look through your old stuff, sometimes you find a new appreciation for a photo you once thought was just ok, or maybe it will be the opposite, and you will hate a photo you once thought was fantastic. I swing both ways on that topic. What do you feel about your old photos, do you love them or hate them?

Taking a different approach

I bought my first kiwi the other day, yeah weird huh? I decided to photograph it, it was fun. I couldn't decide between the two photos I liked the best, so you get both. Usually when I see a kiwi photo it's of the green part, and hardly ever the rind, so I had take a different approach to it. Food is fun to photograph, because well you can eat it afterwards. I do believe this is the first food I have taken a picture of, besides birthday cake, it was a blast, and wow, I never knew that fresh kiwi was so good. I have been adding a lot more fresh food, and less processed food to my diet, and I didn't realize how much I missed it. Hopefully it will bring me a smaller waist, and some more awesome photographs. =)

Boo the Paparazzi

Ever since my addiction to the camera, my critters have picked it up as well. They like to take that old broken camera walk around, and say "Say cheese!..Picture!" It's fun. I hope that one of them comes out with as much creativity as I do, or they pick up some sort of talent from me, then again, I can't wait to see what their niche in life is going to be either. :)

Center of Attention

That's a marble on a hair clip if you can believe it. I spent more time editing it then actually shooting it, which seems to be the norm for me sometimes. When I look through my camera and am about to shoot, I think what can I do with that photo, this is how I want it to look. Only occasionally, do I get "the shot" that I don't want to edit, because it's already perfect as is.

Today I will be going to my MIL's house, and that's always some good film. She has some things for me to photograph, which will be fun. She's why I even own a camera in the first place, I owe her a lot. she's been really supportive, and I really appreciate that. Same as G, he's been really supportive as well, he says he's glad I found something I enjoy doing, and frankly so am I. :)

Keys in the Ignition

For some unknown reason, this photo reminds me of that song by Faith Hill titled "Hey baby, let's go to Vegas" Yes, I've been known to listen to country, deal with it. :p

I'm attracted to big cities, although I would never live specifically in one, I would want to visit all the major ones in the U.S. and beyond if I could. This is where my husband and I differ. He's not a fan of big cities, he's always grumbling about the traffic, and how "everything is the same everywhere". (I. Think. Not.) Vegas would be a blast, same as NYC, Chicago, and Boston. I could never get enough of the people, the culture, just simply the movement. I am a people watcher, so big cities are perfect for that. I'm the type of person who would be content sitting on a bench, and just sit quietly and watch things around me. It's great when you make it a game too, like giving them all names, and occupations. I'm getting a bit carried away here, hehe. If you could visit one city in the world, where would you go and why?

Creative editing with a tulip

I was feeling in a creative mood today, so between editing the photo for CameraPorn, I decided to edit some flower photos I took today. This is the best one I got. I think it's pretty rad. I always try to do something different, but it's hard to do that, when so many people take pictures of the inside of a flower. The picture above is of my tulips that I got from Hubby. They are opening, and looking purdy. Soon I will hang them upside down and dry them to save. Last time I did that with flowers he got me, was some flowers he got me for our wedding day, almost 5 years ago, I'm sure he's got me flowers since then, but I can't be for sure. I'm not to big on flowers though, just not my thing. Anyhoo, next time you are not getting the photos you want, try different editing with them, you'd be surprised at what you can come up with. :)

Eye of Boo

The picture today is of my 3 year old who I refer to as Boo, that's his eye. Both my older boys got daddy's gene's and ended up with fantastic blue eyes, and my Tonka, clearly is a mommy's boy, who has brown eyes like myself. It was amazing to see how much their eye color changed from when they were born until now. I thought all of them were going to have brown eyes, but nope just one. Eyes are fun to photograph. The photo of Boo's eye really portrays who he is, which is soft, and loving, and cute as a button. Let's not forget those lashes, my goodness, what is up with these boys having better eyelashes then their mama eh? That's not fair! I have to put mascara on, to make my eyelashes look full, they don't need anything, lucky them. :)
