A Lens Every Photographer Should Own

It’s a bit ironic, we buy a DSLR camera because we want the ability to change lenses and yet we look for a “do it all” lens so we never have to take it off our camera. That and we didn’t realize just how expensive lenses are; so we may as well get one super zoom lens instead of having to buy a multitude of lenses right?

Well, it’s time to change your perspective a little and open up a new door to your creativity for a VERY affordable price.

3 Easy Ways For Parents To Get Adorable Shots

Doesn’t it seem that some people just always have the cutest shots of their kids? Are they just luckier than the rest of us? Or maybe they have a really nice camera? Well, both statements may be true, but odds are that they are employing some pretty basic, yet profound photography techniques that ensure they get the shot.

Here are 3 things that just about anyone could do to get images of their kids that are more adorable:

Why Some People Almost Always Take Great Photos

What are some of the characteristics of people who crank out photos that are amazing most of the time? Is it something anyone can learn?

Yes, and except in very rare cases, consistently taking great photos can probably only be learned. Rather than relying on the auto mode of their camera and a “photographic eye”, people who produce shots that consistently get a ton of “likes” on Facebook and are ultra Pin worthy have learned three basic things:

How To Use ISO To Get Better Shots In Low Light

When it comes to learning how our cameras work, ISO is one of those settings that is often overlooked and even a little misunderstood. And yet it is probably one of the most important contributors to getting the shots you want (especially when it comes to shooting in low light).

We will start with some technical stuff right off, but don't worry it gets more fun fast.

Prioritizing Depth Of Field

Shooting in aperture priority mode can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a new photographer. It is not nearly as intimidating as shooting in full manual mode, and yet it still gives you an element of creative control over your images, much like shooting in shutter priority. When shooting in aperture priority, you are responsible for choosing the aperture, while the camera automatically chooses the best shutter speed setting for you.

Depth of Field...pros and cons

If you are like me, once the door had been magically opened to the concept of depth of field, and that I had control over it, I became infatuated with really getting as shallow of a depth of field as possible. That beautiful blurred out background called bokeh(pronouncedbow-ke) was my obsession. It wasn't’t long, however that I soon realized that there is a time and a place for everything and maybe using my “nifty 50” at f/1.4 wasn't’t the best idea for that group shot.

A Deeper Look into “Depth of Field”

Changing the depth of field can have a dramatic effect on your image. Let’s go over those effects and how they can be used to change the dynamics of your photograph.

When we are looking at an image, our eyes are automatically drawn to whatever is in sharp focus. As photographers, we have the ability to control where the viewer looks – we can isolate a subject by using depth of field to draw attention to specific parts of a photograph.
