Modigliani's nude achieves record price for artist

Modigliani's 1917 nude painting, entitled "Nu assis sur un divan (La Belle Romaine)", sold for close to US $69 million, a record for any of the artist's work.

The piece was auctioned by Southeby's.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

The newly released Canon appears to now be available for order at various stores around the world.

It does seem quite compact, but remember that, unlike some other Canon white lenses, the front lens element on this one expands outwards.

Here in Australia it seems to be going for around $1700-1900.

Guys, I don't care what anyone says - scientists are on a bit of a roll. The sort of technology that's coming out is just incredible. I mean, just look up the math/physics used to calculate "energy levels" in that content-aware stuff offered in Photoshop and other editing apps !

Another example is a recent advance in Scotland in the field of, err......invisibleness (ha ha ha - eat your heart out Barry Dawson).

No, seriously. Scientists have developed a meterial called "Metaflex" that basically bends light in a very camouflagy kind of way. Please see the web page below:

Canon Related Rumours - 2011

canonrumors.com and other sites are suggesting that 2011 will be an exciting year in terms of new Canon dSLR product releases.

Expect 'significant' updates in the form of the Canon EOS 5D mark III, the Canon EOS 1DS mark IV, as well as a raft of new lenses to match the expected big jump in resolution.

We would be very surprised (read: utterly shocked and devastated) if the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 isn't finally updated during 2011.

EDIT 31/10/10 9.30pm EDST:

canonrumors have reported that a new patent for an EF 24-70 f/2.8L II has been published. Go figure.

Indigenous Dot Paintings To Go On Show In Beijing

Paintings from the indigenous community of Papanyu will go on show in Beijing, at the National Art Museum of China.

The exhibition is called "Papunya Painting: Out of the Australian Desert".

Amongst the exhibits is the 1975 painting "Honey Ant Hunt" by Tim Leura Tjapaltjarri.

The collection, which is made up of 48 pieces of art as well as 18 artefacts, traces the story of the Papunya Tula art movement between 1974 and 1981. The movement established Australian indigenous art in the contemporary art world. It created big names such as Clifford Possum and Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri.
