There is a fairly new photo service that allows you to make money off of your pictures, share them and even offer copyright protection. Cincinnati-based Photrade is a growing photo community that deserves your attention as a photographer that wants to make extra cash to pay off that new lens you just purchased.

You can upload your photos manually or even import from Flickr currently. Once loaded, visitors can view, or even embed (with your watermark) into a blog post or a social web site. For commercial use, this is a fantastic way to purchase photos at a discounted rate than the big stock photography houses.

I visited with CEO Andrew Paradies (pronounced like paradise) recently and was immediately impressed with the application and services offered. Andy suggest that Photrade is a mashup of Flickr and iTunes in that photos are searchable and downloadable for a small fee.

As an extra bonus, Photrade is reaching out to their community by providing timely, insightful and practical articles about photography that you can use. It strips away the general snobbery of our craft and is fun to read. Check out Hyperphocal here.

My father purchased an Olympus Ultra Zoom digital camera and I borrowed it for awhile. The first shot below was one of the bastard squirrels that taunted me daily by throwing acorns as I got home from classes. Taken from my porch, he was across the street. Wow.

This prompted Wonderwife & I to purchase a 2megapixel Fuji camera that was almost $300. Hooked.

Wonderwife & I are working on post-processing 3,000 photos (about 12GB) from all three days of the event. Posting here will be light; as you can imagine.

To the artists, musicians, dancers, chefs, Yahoo Search team and festival-goers: all of the images will be posted/hosted online soon. I will update this post here by way of notification and reply back to those who have sent me an email request. At that time, some will be on display here, and others will be on Flickr and SmugMug accounts. For those of you who had expressed a desire to purchase images (bless you), I will re-direct you to Smugmug for online purchases.

At this time, the Mojo is putting out a request for models. I want/need to boost up my portrait experience. There were plenty of beautiful people on display this weekend and I would like to capture more of you. Wonderwife surprised me by purchasing my new Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens. This is a very high quality lens that operates perfectly with my Nikon D200. If event or landscape photography are your passions, then this is the lens to get! The focus is completely sharp anywhere between 10-20mm and the best thing about it is the price, especially at Amazon where we saved $200 and no taxes/shipping.

It was too dark to try it outside but rest assured, I am taking it with me tomorrow and breaking this sucker in.

Once again it is time to head to downtown Birmingham to enjoy fine art, let the kids romp/explore, enjoy delectable food/wine and enjoy musical acts from almost every genre at the Art Connection.

Once again, I am shooting the event and will be there Friday afternoon, and most of Saturday/Sunday.
