We recenetly held a contest to challenge people to snap a photo that showcased the Train's Nikon graphics in a creative way.

We have a Nikon Supertrain running on Calgary Transit's LRT line and recently held a contest to challenge people to snap a photo that showcased the Train's Nikon graphics in a creative way for a chance to win a Nikon 1 J2 camera kit. The Train is decked out in Nikon graphics inside and out. Kevin Bae was one of the few people that took on the challenge. Since Kevin was a minor at the time of the contest, Kevin's dad Alex Bae claimed his prize which was the Nikon 1 J2. Of course Alex gave the prize to Kevin and he is excited to use his new camera. Here is what Kevin had to say about the contest:

"Although I am very new to photography, and still have much to learn; when I first sighted this contest advertised on facebook, I just had to enter. I had promised my dad when he got me my camera for my recent birthday, that I will try my best to learn and to make the best out of it.

Sighting the train had become an issue though, as later found out by me and my friend Rozalia. Looking for a single specific train, that could be on any line proved to be the greatest challenge of this particular competition; which is what I believe may have been the cause for the low total submissions. Not many people get the chance to watch every train car go by in the blistering cold, especially with the chance of it passing by without you taking a snap in a matter of a minute. So me and Rozalia went what we called "train hunting" and we waited at City Hall station where we could see both of the lines pass by.

Then when we saw it, we hopped on and took photos of it at every stop until it became quite dark and too late for us to be out. While hunting for this train, me and Rozalia promised to each other that the winner will have to share the Nikon 1 j2 (that being it was one of us), since we are both friends and are part of a photography club at my school. Now that I've won, I have another promise to fulfill, that being to share this camera with the photography club, my friends, and my awesome dad. I think with the ease of use that this camera offers, and special effects and cool shooting modes (such as the motion snapshot), this will be a great camera to record some awesome memories with." -Kevin Bae

Exposure Photography Symposium
