4 of the Best New Photo Printers for the 2011 Holiday Season

With Christmas fast approaching, our passing thoughts of what to buy for those we care about begin to morph into serious contemplation. Photo printers are highly sought after by consumers this time of year, and the 2011 season will be no different. With this in mind, we will save you the trouble of wading through catalogs, online jibber-jabber, and hour long sales pitches by bringing you 4 of the best choices in photo printers for the holidays. Let's get to it, shall we?

Santa's Personal Favorite (We Think)

Personal inkjet photo printers are a dime a dozen these days. Only a select few manufacturers really dominate this category, and Canon is one of them. So what is so great about the Canon PIXMA iP4820 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer? Probably the fact that it delivers very high quality photo prints at amazing speeds for really cheap. It has not one, but two 150 page paper trays. This means you could load photo and standard printing paper, allowing you to put those 5 cartridges to work between the two without moving a muscle. Auto-duplexing is standard with the iP4820, allowing for easy two-sided printing as well. It prints at lightning speeds (tops in it's class, actually) without sacrificing output quality. Speaking of output, the photo print quality is probably on par with your standard lab prints, which is quite high for a personal inkjet at this price range. As a personal inkjet printer, it truly stands out above the competitors and does an amiable job as a dedicated photo printer. Sure, more expensive profesional units can outperform the iP4820, but as is typical with that class of dedicated photo printers, the price is a huge deterrent to your average shopper. The iP4820 would make a fine addition to any Christmas list this year.

Professional results without the "Professional" price tag

No doubt about it, Canon knows how to make an amazing photo printer for less. Perhaps you've perused some of the other previous posts here and become familiar with the sparkling history of Canon's Pixma Pro series. This year, they have done it again. Though the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer has only experienced modest improvements over the original Pixma Pro9500, they are improvements worth mentioning (and paying for). The most notable improvement is print speed. While still clocking in a little slow, the Mark II version of the Pro9500 is faster than it's predecessor, with NO loss in output quality. Few professionals lend much weight to print speed, but the increase is a pleasant addition for those of us just looking for a good photo printer for around the house. Moreover, the Pixma Pro9500 Mark II produces lush, spot on prints every time. Though it is an inkjet, gradients flow beautifully from it's 10 different cartridges and there is consistent throughout the print.

Even the most ardent Pofessionals will see this baby as a great investment with such premium output results. It is designed to work with a plethora of quality paper, but shines with the "fine art" papers. It can accommodate sizes up to 13 by 19 in this regard. It uses your standard USB connection with the option to print directly from your camera. On the downside (because you knew there would be one), the Mark II wont be fitting in anyone's stocking this year, as it is a bit on the large side (34 pounds), and will require plenty of surface space in order to properly feed it. Even so, the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II is among the top tier of professional quality photo printers, for less.

Have a Multi-Functional Christmas

Perhaps the individual you're shopping for this year would really like to have a nice photo printer, but they really need something that does more than just print pretty pictures. Thankfully, Hewlett-Packard has a solution for them. Introducing the Photosmart Premium Fax eAIO (All-In-One) Printer. First, rest assured that simply because this is a MFP (Multi-Function Printer) is no reason to dismiss it's photo printing ability. On the contrary, the PPF eAIO can produce vivid, lab quality output and at a reasonable 3 ppm (page per minute) speed. It boasts above average photo quality for an inkjet, utilizing it's 5 ink cartridges pretty well. Only an occasional artifact may appear during heavy printing, barely noticeable if at all. It's additional features include scanning, copying, and faxing. You can even scan to a memory card or USB drive if you so desire. It's a bit on the heavy side, weighing in at around 23 pounds, and it can hold around 125 pages in the tray, 50 in the document feeder, and 20 in a separate photo tray.

It supports eprinting (e-mailing of photos for it to print directly) and wireless printing as well. All of the additional features provide for a very suitable multi-function machine for around the house or at the office, but the higher quality of the photo printing function really makes this a great choice for those who can't (or simply don't want to) settle for a photo printer only.

The Power of the "Cube"

This next device falls squarely in the camp of AWESOME! With millions of people all over the world living on a steady diet of mobile device candy, it was inevitable that the printer industry would capitalize on the craze. And thanks to the new VuPoint Solutions Photo Cube, the holidays will indeed be "Merry & Bright". So, what makes this little puppy such a great gift this season? Where to begin. For starters, it works with the latest and greatest mobile devices on the market. This includes the iPhone 4, Android, iPad, iPod, etc. More and more people are using mobile powerhouse devices as their "camera" of choice (as proven by the massive number of photos uploaded to sharing sites on the web from said devices), and the VuPoint Photo Cube makes it extremely easy to get those digital photos onto physical paper quickly. The "Cube" uses the latest thermal dye technology to print good quality 4 x 6 photos, simply by docking your device to it and starting the necessary app. It utilizes only one cartridge, which can print up to 36 images (it comes with a trial cartridge which can print 16 images). It prints at a brisk speed, and you have the option of grouping images at smaller resolutions onto one print in various patterns. Unfortunately, the VuPoint Photo Cube is exclusive to the previously mentioned mobile devices. You can't use it to print images from your computer, USB device, or memory card. However, for the mobile device junkie in your family, it is guaranteed to make their's a "Holly Jolly" Christmas.

Top 3 Photography Tricks For Impressive Photos

You might be amazed by what you can do with a Digital SLR(DSLR) camera to create amazing photos. Shots of beautiful lights at night, ethereal falls, surf and clouds are all possible with long exposure methods. Some other tricks you're capable of doing without requiring Photoshop (or any other picture editing and enhancing software) include taking a shot of several bolts of lightning in the same photo, "disappearing" moving people from a photo, taking awesome infrared landscape scenes and more. Some methods require a specific filter but some need only the correct settings on your camera plus a tripod. Look at the video clip in the link at the end of this article to see a few examples of photos using these methods plus much more.

Let's talk briefly about some top things you can do using your camera to create wonderful and incredible shots without Photoshop.

Long Exposure Night Photography Tips

Most digital slr cameras have exposure settings that will allow you to increase the exposure time and the ones that don't usually have a "night mode" that can provide you with an exposure duration of two seconds. This will allow you to shoot moving lights during the night time for a longer time than a standard photograph generating light trails and other effects. You can experiment with shooting vehicle lights, carnival ride lights, fireworks, lightning and flashlight as well as sparkler lights that you move yourself to produce patterns or even trace and light up physical objects.

When you photograph lights that you move yourself including torches, LED lights, fibre optic lights and sparklers, that's called "light painting" and may be used to produce incredible shots of light trails and the illuminated surroundings and fixed objects. Anything that is in constant motion and not lit up by the lights for more than a second or so will not show up in the photo.

One kind of long exposure photography you may have seen before is "star trails" which involves taking photos of stars with extra long exposure times. This involves getting a cable release (or shutter release) for your digital camera to permit the extra long exposure.

Long Exposure Daytime Photography Tips

Doing long exposure photography during daylight hours requires a particular filter to reduce the light considerably to allow for an extended exposure time. You can use a Neutral Density Glass filter or even an Infrared filter to achieve this affect in the day plus the Infrared filter is an excellent trick by itself for shooting mind-blowing shots. During the day time there are several things you may photograph using a long exposure time to create amazing pictures such as falls, surf and clouds to give them a misty, blurry, more enchanting appearance. You can also employ this method to capture scenes without the people that are there showing up in the photograph, when they are moving continuously, for example in a busy road with moving pedestrians.

Color Infrared Photography

Some extraordinary pictures may be shot with Digital cameras with an infrared filter in daytime or nighttime. Such photographs usually look other-worldly or even magical and look like the colour has been modified with Photoshop. Not all digital cameras will be capable of this because many newer digital cameras remove infrared light. You can test if the digital camera has the capacity to take infrared shots by taking a long exposure picture of an infrared tv remote control's LED when you push the power button. If the light shows up brightly in the shot, get yourself an infrared filter to fit your camera and you will be good to go.

You will have to change your focus with the filter off and then adjust the white balance after you put it on in addition to increasing the shutter speed as the filter is quite dark. Skies and water should appear deeper and darker and trees and plants should appear white colored or blue/white in the infrared shots. You should also get the same long exposure results due to the darkness of the filter which can make for wonderful shots of falls, clouds, streams and waves.

Clearly, there are many different ways to take different, beautiful and amazing digital images using some simple methods and tools. Be sure you look at the video at the link below to view examples of photographs shot using these techniques as well as others.

Canvas photo and colour splash

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to get your photo on canvas, just imagine the brilliant effect of having your favourite photo or photos printed onto a brilliant canvas artwork piece, you could have more than one picture printed on canvas rather than having just the one printed and this is called canvas collage printing. Basically you would be sending the printer let's say 4 photos for an example, and with those 4 photos the canvas printer would then merge the photos together and create an art piece from them. I think if you look online you can get a few ideas as to what a collage would look like.

Another amazing special effect you could have with your canvas photo would be to have your images colour splashed. So how would this work, ok once you have emailed or uploaded your digital image to your canvas printing processer you would basically tell them what you are looking for in your photos so let's say you have a landscape picture and you have yourself and your family in the picture and you have lots of trees and water in the background, now if you was to use your imagination you could have certain parts of the image in colour and have the rest in black and white effect or sepia effect for you canvas print. That is basically what colour splash is, having and black and white image with keeping some of the image in colour still as it is a very catchy and outstanding effect to have, lots of people are starting to have it done as getting a canvas print or some canvas photo prints is a very cool home accessories to have anyway but to give the photo that's on the canvas print an extra flare is what will make yours stand out from the rest.

So you have the amazing photo or image or even the design and you have the idea of having either the colour splash or the collage image merge or if you was looking for some even more special then you could go with both ideas now that would be fantastic, anyway once you have the image and the vision of you work of art you would need to contact one of the inline printers and or a canvas printing specialists and tell them you spec as I'm sure they would be very interested in what you have to say and what you want as it really can be a passion canvas printing and if you go to the right person i can see it being very beneficial not only to yourself but the business that is printing your canvas print for you as they can share your vision very well and can translate that to your canvas and your prints and the results will be out of this world i can assure you. Also just to note if you're going for a canvas print with a colour splash effect try and get the gallery frame which are the 38mm frames as they tend to stick out of your wall a bit more and can enhance catching of your viewers eyes.

How to Take Great Travel Photos Most travelers don't take advantage of the beautiful surroundings around them as they tour some of the most inspiring countries in the world. By making an effort to take great photographs of the beauty around you, wonderful trips can last a lifetime and be shared among family and friends. Whether you encounter rare wildlife on a tour of Yosemite, or face the scenic views of the http://www.asiaimpressions.com/china-tours/ "> Yangzte River in China , you'll want to capture these memories in the form of stunning photos. Taking impressive photos requires a bit more work than simply pressing a button, though. Travelers should keep a few pointers in mind before photographing their favorite images.

* Make sure you have a high quality camera. Digital SLR's have become increasingly popular among tourists recently, thanks to their ability to capture different speeds and various other functions. Take advantage of the shutter speed when photographing wildlife or people in action. You'll need a maximum shutter speed of at least 1/250th second to be successful in this. However, don't go out and spend a fortune on a digital SLR if you don't already have one. A simple point and shoot camera can produce some of the most amazing photos. Just make sure it is well equipped with about 4-5 megapixels to ensure the best clarity.

* Also, when choosing what to photograph, think beyond a vast landscape or portrait. Take a closer look at the intimate details in all that surrounds you. Look at the patterns and textures of the plants around you, at the shapes and colors on fabrics, and the beauty in nature itself.

* Take advantage of the natural light. The subtle brightness of a sunrise can provide a gorgeous backdrop for your photos and enhance the colors. Use sunsets to cast a warmer tone over your picture for a more pleasant outcome.

* Look at different angles or points of view for a given photo. You don't necessarily have to take it straight on; consider capturing the image from a side angle, or resting it along a boulder, or other objects. Also look into investing in a good tripod to ensure steady photos.

* Don't forget the necessities. Remember to charge your camera's batteries at night or when it's not in use. Also try to carry extra memory cards with you to ensure you have enough room for all the photos you may take.

* Finally, enjoy your photos! Make sure you are having fun taking pictures and you'll always remember the trip as one that was amazing. Make the most of them when you get home. Use photo editing programs to enhance your images, create travel journals or scrapbooks, or make copies for your friends and family.

Last summer, we went to one of the best beaches in the US, Siesta Key Beach, Florida. It is a beautiful barrier island eight miles long just offshore of Sarasota. Siesta Key has the "World's Finest Whitest Sand". You'll find beautiful seashells on Siesta's white sands. Its bright, white sands are 99% pure quartz and is always cool to the touch which was said to have magical healing powers. This may be the reason why the residents and visitors on the beaches of Siesta Key always seem so happy and relaxed.

I was able to take amazing photos using my camera, Canon EOS Rebel T3i. I was very pleased with the results. We just finished our early dinner and decided to watch the sunset. As we approached the beach, I saw an awesome and unusual sunset developing. The sun was getting close to the horizon, while off to the right in the distance was a thunderstorm with frequent lightning bolts flashing. Just as the sun reached the horizon, I was fortunate enough to capture a flash of lightning at the same time. I took many pictures in order to get this one special picture.

The experience was totally amazing and I'm glad I brought my favorite camera, Canon EOS Rebel T3i. It helps me capture great images. Some even say it seems I'm a professional photographer. Thanks to my cam. I can always store wonderful shots of the time I spent together with my loved ones.
