Scene from the Valentine's Day Vigil down at the local Planned Parenthood abortuary a couple of days ago. We had somewhere around 40-50 people at one point even though it was the middle of the day and lots of folks had to work and the word went out about the event pretty late.

Suppertime: Fishermen feeding the pelicans. A couple of dolphins tried to crash the party but the pelicans pretty much put the kibosh on that plan.

I thought the beach would be more deserted at sunrise. I was wrong. Lots of dogs and their people were there. This lovely lab had a great time romping on the sand and in the water with his pack pal.

Across the street from Kelly Ingram Park is an old Baptist Church where four little girls were killed by an explosion during the years of racial tensions and hatred in Birmingham, AL. Set diagonally across the park from the church is a stone carving of three ministers, kneeling in prayer. I was very moved by their imag...es. Especially this one.

Someone has daubed his face with blue paint and a red spot is on his robe. I converted the photo to black and white to remove the stains. You can still see the dark patch on his face, on his cheek where the light hits it. The spot on the robe is barely visible as a light streak under his chin. I don't know why anybody would do that. I feel a deep and profound respect when I see him.

Dr. Alveda King marched for freedom in Birmingham as a young child. She's been marching for life and now she's going to be a Freedom Rider. The civil rights movement is not over, we are not free until all of us are free. All of us, no matter what our color, our religion, our age, our health or disability. God bless you, Dr. King!

A monument in Kelly Ingram Park in downtown Birmingham AL. I grew up miles away from this park and only saw the violence on the evening news. But standing there today, gazing on these statues, and listening to MLK's niece speak, the terror all those people must have felt hit me like a ton of bricks.

We are not at all free until we are ALL free. All of us, every last one of us. Period.

Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) with Pastor Stephen Broden and many other leaders came to Birmingham today to announce the Pro-Life Freedom Rides scheduled to take place this summer. We met in historic Kelly Ingram Park, site of much racial unrest and violence in a city that has seen its share.

Petals Boutique at Her Choice Birmingham Women's Center. This is part of the "earn while you learn" program at the center. Mothers-to-be take free classes to learn about parenthood and earn points toward things they will need for their new babies. Things like diapers, clothes, blankets, toys, strollers, car seats. Her Choice depends entirely on donations.

I was visiting Her Choice Birmingham Women's Center downtown when I saw this little model of a baby at 12 weeks old. And the idea for a photo was born. And the idea for an entire project is unfolding now too. More on that later. :)

I took some photos at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah GA yesterday. I'll post 'em after I have time to sort through and edit more. We're leaving this morning, though, so I probably won't get to it til the weekend. :)

It pays to stay an extra day at a location when the forecast calls for blue skies and warmer temperatures. Oh, and it also pays to take your camera along when you take the dog to the park. And it pays to keep that polarizing filter on your lens. :)

It was a dark and stormy night, er, well, it was an overcast and drizzly day, anyway. So I made my doggie wear her raincoat, the reversible one with the red corduroy on the other side. She loved it! Well, she didn't hate it.
