Cracked Paint on Metal Texture

This new addition to my site was taken from a section of a bridge on the way into Rodley Nature Reserve as with most of the good ones just spotted it as I was walking past and had to take a shot of it.

This new one features riveted rusty metal with detailed cracked and peeling paint off it, good detail on this one and cool colours.

I’ve got loads more metal and cracked paint textures also available on my site that might might also be of interest.

I’ll be taking some more larger shots next time I’m there, hopefully with slightly better light.

Pink Cloud Texture

This pink cloud texture was taken at the farm a while back, been really busy the past few months and not had time to get the new textures featured on my site. Really like this one, love the colours and the contrast between the pink and the blue of the sky.

I’ve looked at some of the other cloud textures on the net and there seem to be loads of the same type of clouds, I don’t really want that so I’m aiming to cover a good selection of different ones which are taken throughout the year and want to feature a selection of moods and different colours. I’m also looking for any hi quality shots of clouds that are taken from different places around the world, love to see any quality shots that you want to share with fellow designers.

Sparks Texture

I bought a remote for the new camera and one of the first things I messed with was doing some long exposure shots at night. This is one of the first shots of a section over a fire on about fifteen seconds exposure. Really pleased with this texture, love the way the sparks leave different trails.

This one also looks good using the overlay layer setting in Photoshop, simply duplicate the layer and change the upper layer’s setting to overlay to bring out the spark trails and add depth and much more redness to the image.

Will be getting some more of these added to the site soon, think they make great abstract texture backgrounds.

Large Flame Texture #3

Another darker orange and red fire texture shot, lots of subtle swirls of smoke and flame. If you duplicate the original layer in Photoshop and on the upper layer alter the layer setting to multiply, pin light, screen or lighten you can get loads more cool alternative variations on this one. Bought a much better camera recently to take some new texture shots with. This large Fire texture is one of the first that I took, some quite interesting abstract shapes and swirls on this one. There are another two from this shoot that have much redder flames and some cool dark swirling smoke. Will be adding more new Flame textures to my site soon to give a bit more choice.

A slightly more abstract flame texture with wisps of smoke and flames. Had a mess about with this one in Photoshop, seemed to work well changing the hue and also works well by desaturating it then colourizing it, some interesting effects can be achieved. Tyre Tread Texture

Another rubber tyre texture taken from shots of an old tyre tread. Quiet a good patterned texture and on 100 percent magnification there are loads of detailed cracks in the rubber along with perishing rubber and slight hints of green moss that has started growing on the tread.

Got a few of these that I like added already in the Rubber Textures section, and am planning to get more added soon I have loads of shots but, I personally find the tread pattern quite ‘standard’ and am more inspired by the old split, rotting or new shiny elements.

This should be an interesting textures section to develop.

Detailed Checkerplate Texture

This addition to the site features shots from a checker plate aluminium sheet. The aged metal is covered in dust and dead bugs along with other things.

I have slightly altered the image and added a slightly darker border to the image, but thinking of having the original available as well. I have also some shots of the texture from a distance, with a greater variety of smaller checkers. I will get that added to the site soon.

A slightly abstract leaf texture image featuring a sliver and green leaf. The right side of the texture is blurred due to the curve of the leaf, but the image is big and can be cropped accordingly. Love the detail sections on this one and the variety of veins and shapes.

Brown Leather Texture Pack

This is the latest of Brown Leather textures set taken from section shots of my Sisters handbag, she did look quite confused when I picked up my camera and dragged her handbag towards me. The new texture pack consists of three 3500 x 2625 pixel images taken from different sections of the handbag, a good selection of images and styles.

CSS3 Animation for Chrome and Safari Browsers

As some of you will have noticed there has been no textures added over the past week, that’s due to seeing a tweet from Smashing Magazine on CSS3 animation, the minute I saw it I thought, I need to have a go at that. One week later on and over 2000 lines of code (that’s allot for someone who doesn’t really do code) and its live. Click here for the CSS3 Animation demo.

I used several different textures from my site to work up the main background image, including the kitchen doors, Floor and a subtle texture used on the back wall.

The CSS3 Animation features a large cat sleeping on the kitchen floor while all around mice come out to play. Lots of different animation styles and setting involved.

Should be back on with adding a few more of the textures over the next day or so, still got loads to feature on here. As always comments welcome on the new animation, love to see what you guys think of it.

A Hessian texture photographed from a new potatoes bag, great detail on this one detailed when zoomed in. A detailed worn Hessian texture taken from some recent shots. Really like the detail on this one, when viewed at one hundred percent you can see the detail of the Hessian fibres that have been displaced over time.

There are a couple more Hessian fabric textures also featured on my site including the Fine Hessian and Hessian Texture, these are tighter fabric images and may be also of interest.

Pressed Wood Texture

An interesting pressed wood texture, really like the patterns on this one. The photograph is taken from the reverse side of a sheet of hardboard and features the markings that are left when compressing the board, these almost create a checker-plate style.

This one as with all the new additions to the site is a large texture and looks good zoomed out and also shows lots of details when zoomed in, this one has some good pitted areas along with fine wood fibres.

Parchment Textures Pack

I’ve done a few parchment textures in the past but this weekend I’ve set up a proper photo shoot to get the best shots of the textures, got quite a selection of styles from parchments of different ages, this set of six feature a couple of styles. I have also done a few tweaks in photoshop to add some extra character to these. They are pretty big – dimensions are 3500 x 2625 pixels The parchment textures look good both on a small scale and also when zoomed in and should be good for a variety of design projects.

Dried earth texture, loads of cracks on this one a great texture for overlaying and adding cracks to age other images. Works well as a grey-scale image as well and if you ramp the brightness and contrast in Photoshop you can get the cracked areas to stand out much more.

Textured concrete image which I have used in my first tutorial, great as an overlay texture to add depth and a subtle grunge feel to other images. This one is quite a detailed texture with a variety of different elements.

Dark green slime texture photographed from a mix of algae and water, some interesting shapes as the liquid runs down the surface, also other shapes appear when zoomed in. I had a mess about before choosing this one and if you alter the hue and saturation in Photoshop you can make this loads of different colours, which also work well.

Another cracked tyre texture taken from a stack of old tyres. Love the contrast between the grooves of the tyre and the cracks that have appeared over the years. A nice detailed shot with a good variety of texture.
