We will be holding elections for 2016/2017 Board positions. Yes, that means we are looking for the next President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of Pi Sigma Alpha, Epsilon Iota! All student members wishing to be elected must declare their desire to run prior the election date, which is set to take place on Tuesday, April 12th at 6pm in DMH 208!!!

This is a great chance to campaign for student office, and we hope all of our members come out to vote and show their support for our candidates! ALL members can vote!

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 6:30pm in Duncan Hall 318, and do we have a treat for you! Assemblyman Evan Low will be joining us as our guest speaker for the evening. What is Plato Club?

Do not be misled by the name. This academic organization is fun! Not that Plato can't be fun, but let's be realistic- unless your a complete nerd, your probably not reading Plato for fun.

Plato Club is our social gathering each month. Our activities range from pizza and drinks, hiking trips, bowling with Presidents, camping, and much more. Oh, and did we mention, all events are paid for by PSA? That's right, it's all free. Plato Club is a great way to meet new people, have fun, and create some awesome memories.

PSA Meeting Coming up!!!!

Our next meeting will be held this Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 5pm in DH 318. We will be hosting guest speaker, Travis Wise, the International Tax Counsel for Google. If enough students show interest, he will also be offering us a tour of Google Headquarters in Mountain View, so please try to attend! We will also be having a representative from Blueprint LSAT coming to share information about their programs and student discounts. Prospective law students, this is the meeting for you!

Swedish Member of Parliament, Goran Montan visits SJSU
Student members of PSA had the privlege of meeting Mr. Montan when he came to San Jose State to announce he would be offering two students the opportunity to study abroad. One male and one female Political Science major will be chosen to visit Stockholm for one week to better understand the Swedish economic and political system.

We are proud to announce that our student organization has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to host a food/fundraiser for the holidays. So clean out your pantries, or while your doing your holiday shopping grab one or two items to donate. Even the smallest contribution can help feed a family.

Prison Reform

Our big event of the fall semester is finally here! On November 12th at 6pm in Morris Dailey Auditorium, PSA will be holding a panel discussion on prison reform including a keynote speech from California State Senator Jim Beall. You don't want to miss this!

Background: After more than three decades of tough-on-crime politics and policy, California’s prison system became the largest in the nation by the mid-2000s. At its peak, California’s prisoner populations topped 170,000 —more than double the correctional system’s designed capacity. Due to overcrowded conditions and insufficient prisoner health care services, the federal courts forced California to reduce its prison population. In response, California lawmakers adopted AB 109 in 2011—the controversial “prison realignment” plan designed to shrink the state’s prison population by diverting many offenders away from state prison and into county jails. California has a lot to gain or lose from prison reform. Our keynote speaker and panelists will share their thoughts, concerns, and hopes for prison reform in the Golden State and what it means for law enforcement officials, social service providers, and the struggle to improve public safety.
