When I first started picdit, I really thought it was only going to be me, myself and I, posting the stuff that I found interesting on the web, either through RSS, or just day-to-day browsing.

I have come to a realization, that I would really like the community of picdit to help drive this site even further, sharing the pictures you guys find, while surfing the web.

So, if you have any interesting pictures, you guys would like to share with the picdit readers. Please, send a friendly email my way:

The concept for the interior organization of the department store reacts to the ambition to develop a luxurious store on several floors with multiple access points. Therefore the central circulation space is designed as a continuous floor space merging in to one vertical space, the void space. The geometric principle of the vertical void space is the allocation of the elements of vertical circulation around the central zone of the store.

It’s location is in the Ta Lee Plaza, a department store in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

In synchronization with the rotation of the façade geometry the sets of escalators spiral upwards to the tenth level and connect with the two basement levels.

In 2005, scientists discovered that a new skyscraper in Taiwan might be causing earthquakes. Called Taipei 101, it was temporarily the tallest building in the world, before towers like the Al Burj were anything but rumors. “At more than 500 metres,” we read back then, “Taipei 101 in Taiwan is the world’s tallest building. But now geologists fear that its size and weight may have transformed a stable area into one susceptible to earthquake activity.”

Conversely, could we build just the right number of these, at just the right spots, throughout the greater Los Angeles basin and thus nail the tectonic plates in place — weighing southern California down and zipping the San Andreas Fault up tight? It’d be seismic acupuncture, a new form of therapy against continental drift. Perhaps one gigantic tower exactly placed in outer Tokyo could make the whole Pacific Rim freeze up.

These cliffs look stunning. But, boy, I would not want to even go near the top of one of these.

Dún Aengus. It’s located on Inishmore at the edge of an approximately 100 meter high cliff. The name “Dún Aengus” meaning “Fort of the Aengus”, refers to the pre-Christian god of the same name described in Irish mythology. It has been around for 3000 years.

Casterllfollit de la Roca. A tiny town by the name of Castellfollit de la Roca in Spain, an incredible looking stretch of houses that all seem to be resting on a single ridge of rock. It is a town of approximately 1,000 inhabitants in an area of less than a square kilometer, making it one of the smallest towns in Catalonia.

Cliffs near Etretat. Étretat is best known for its cliffs, including a famous natural arch. These cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted artists including Eugène Boudin, Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet.

GOOD Magazine has an awesome graph on gadgets that consume the most electricity while turned off. Hopefully this graph can save you some extra cash.

Even when household appliances are turned off, most are still using some electricity. Appliances are either in passive standby mode (the clock on the microwave is still ticking) or active standby mode (the VCR is off, but programmed to record something).
