The wait is over and Apple today sent out the invitations to the media and press about the September 12th, 2012 event. What everyone is expecting and what I’m expecting as well is that 09/12/12 is going to be one of the biggest events in the history. The image inside the invitation email shows a big ‘5’ as a shadow under the date ’12’. This shows that what everyone was expecting is true and the new iPhone is called ‘iPhone 5‘. It looks like that the officially iPhone 5 release date is September 12th, 2012 now.

Yes, there is that big 5 as a shadow of the number 12 as seen in the image above. There had been many rumors and predictions about the new iPhone 5 in the market and almost every blog mentioned it and couldn’t stop them self from posting something related to it. There were many conceptual images released too, and those were released even when the iPhone 4S was about to launch and everyone was expecting at that time, that it’s name would be iPhone 5. Even there was a video about the conceptual iPhone 5. One more prediction that I wanna make here is, may be iPhone 5 will be named as ‘iPhone V’ and Apple use the roman digit this time.

Apple has always surprised everyone with their naming conventions. I remember when iPad was released everyone was calling the iPad as iTampon as fun because no one was expecting that name from Apple and everyone was looking towards something like iTab or iTablet. Similarly there were strangely iPhone 3GS after iPhone 3G and iPhone 4S after iPhone 4 which disappointed people as well that even after spending so much on a new iPhone they can’t feel the difference in the outlook. (Yes, internally every newer version became very strong, but the body disappointed people). It is generally seen that Apple is following a special method for iPhone for naming it. We can see that its usually ‘iPhone X’ and ‘iPhone XS’ the next time and then goes back to the ‘iPhone X’. I remember I saw some film and one of the character in that movie comes from the future and the person in the present asks abruptly “Has Apple released the iPhone 100?” and “What are the features of iPhone 100?”. May be the 10th generation of iPhone will be called iPhone XS (pronounced as ‘excess’). As I mentioned earlier may be if this iPhone is named as ‘iPhone V’ then the 10th generation ‘iPhone XS’ is confirmed.

This year as expected Apple has already achieved a milestone by becoming the most valuable company in the history, and they are still looking forward to become the first trillion dollar company. September 12th is going to be a deciding day for Apple as everyone have their eyes on Apple now. Recently they won the case against Samsung and received $1billion, so everything is currently going in favor of Apple.

For the last couple of months everyone is talking about the new iPhone 5 by Apple and many predictions and rumors came out. Some of the blogs got their hands on some parts of the new Apple iPhone 5. Even few of the people gave a predicted specifications of the phone too. The new iPhone 5 rumors show (even some bloggers believe) that it will have A6 processor which will be 1.4GHz Quad Core and 1GB of RAM.

Rumored / Predicted Specification of new iPhone 5:

Processor: A6 1.4GHz Quad Core Processor

Screen: 4 Inches

Resolution: 1136×960 pixels (Aspect Ratio: 16:9)

RAM: 1GB

New 9 Pin Connector Dock

12 Megapixel Camera

Headphone Pin (at bottom)

Nano Sim Slot

A number of websites and blogs have shown a lot of images of the new iPhone 5. I agree with the screen resolution and the new physical dimensions of iPhone 5. It is highly expected that Apple is not going for a huge screen because Apple has researched a lot on the perfect mobile phone handset size. The current screen size is one of the perfect sizes which can easily be operated with a thumb when it comes to a touch screen. That is why, it is rumored that the height of the phone will be increasing only and the screen size may be 3.8 to 4 inches. And, yes, unfortunately the new iPhone 5 will NOT have a 720p screen rather the aspect ratio will be 16:9.

The thing I doubt about is the connection dock. I don’t think so that Apple is going to disappoint a lot of their partners by introducing a new dock. There are a number of accessories already in the market including speakers which uses the standard 30pin dock of the iPhone, iPad and iPod. So bringing in an entirely new dock will let them all down unless there will be converter dock inside the pack of the new iPhone 5. I guess this is rumored because Apple’s new MacBook Pro charging pin was changed. Steve Jobs was a visionary and I am pretty sure he had big plans with this 30 pin dock, as only few of the pins are used. Apple just adopted the HDMI technology in the new MacBook Pro otherwise till now Apple was not even interested in HDMI. I think Steve Jobs had a vision to introduce something big with the USB technology and the 30 pin dock, that is why till Steve was alive HDMI was not appreciated by Apple.

I remember that iPhone 4 was leaked out but every other product of Apple was never predicted and all the rumors were wrong. All the iPhone concepts ever produced by different people never became the Apple’s product. So it is likely possible that all the new iPhone 5 rumors will go wrong and will not exactly be the iPhone 5. This type of picture has been circulating on the Internet since the iPhone 4S launch (especially the back side) and everyone used to call iPhone 4S as iPhone 5. So even the name of iPhone 5 is doubtful for me. Everyone was expecting iPad 3 but it came out to be the ‘New iPad’. That is why people are also expecting the name of the new iPhone 5 to be ‘The New iPhone‘.

One of the major issues with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, rather all smartphone devices is the battery timing. Some of the companies have included a larger battery of about 2000mAh. Apple 4 had a 1,420mAh battery which was upgraded to 1,432mAh in iPhone 4S. Keeping the tradition in mind, it is expected that the new iPhone 5 will have 1,440mAh battery. The reason for this may be to give users the best and rapid recharge time. If the new iPhone 5 has the 4G/LTE technology used then the 1,440mAh is very bad move. All the new smartphones are adopting more than 2,000mAh battery to coop up with the 4G/LTE or even the 3G battery consumption. If the new iPhone 5 is 4G/LTE and has 1,440 mAh battery then I’m pretty sure the battery will drain in less than 5 hours of simple usage, and will not even give the standby of 12 to 14 hours.

September 12th, 2012 is going to be a day with the biggest event of the year, as mentioned by some experts. Apple became the most valuable company in the history of the world and the business analysts are expecting Apple’s market share to reach $900 per share with the launch of the new iPhone 5. Businesses are expecting Apple to be the first trillion dollar company if the sales and market of the new iPhone 5 and rumored iPad Mini follow the previous history of Apple with the sales. Samsung sold over 10million units of Galaxy SIII and broke the previous record of Apple iPhone 4S. Now experts are saying that this newly build record of Samsung Galaxy SIII is soon going to become a history by the launch of new Apple iPhone 5. So lets wait for few more days as Apple unveils their new products on September 12th, 2012.

Yes! You read the title of this topic right. The freshman class of 2016 at Seton Hall University are getting free Nokia Lumia 900. Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey decided to give away free Nokia Lumia 900 to all the freshman joining this fall. Seton Hall has partnered up with Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T to provide a custom version of Nokia Lumia 900.

The free Nokia Lumia 900 will contain a custom app which is a guide for the freshman. The SHUmobile app ” … customized social media integration and direct communication channels with their freshmen peers, peer academic advisers, housing information and roommates.”

SHUmobile includes, among other school-specific features:

Access to faculty and employee directory

Browse course catalog

View Campus map

Get Setonian News

SHUfly tracking

Browse library catalog

Michael Taylor, Academic Director, Center for Mobile Research & Innovation for Seton Hall, says:

“Mobile technology has become ubiquitous and pervasive, but we are just beginning to understand the breadth of its impact across campus. Smartphone use in higher education has tended to rely on finding a specific app to fulfill a specific curricular purpose. With the close collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft on the Lumia 900, the phone itself takes center stage.”

The life of freshman at Seton Hall University will be made much more easier when they will have the access to all the important school information right in their hand. Apart from this, Microsoft is trying to create the awareness of their new operating system and is trying to teach people how their new UI for Windows 8 will make their lives better.

SHUMobile app is already available for iOS, Android and Blackberry. The freshman will have the easiness of communicating with others and advisers through the phone. According to PC World, this is not the first time Seton Hall has giving free phones and gadgets to their students. A number of students were given free Nokia smartphones, Kindle devices, Android and iPad tablets as well.

I would just like to say Good luck to the new class of 2016 at Seton Hall University, because a new Nokia Lumia 900 is waiting for your in the dorm.

Companies usually hire other PR companies to market their product or throw a party of a certain kind for an event. Usually these event management companies do the PR activities too. At Norwegian Developer’s Conference 2012 (NDC), Microsoft had to face disappointment and the event became disastrous for them with the Microsoft developers song and dancing performance.

Watch Microsoft Developers Song at NDC ’12:

[youtube TROd29XFHY0]

The song which most probably Microsoft team didn’t write them self rather some PR company would have summed it up, came out to be vulgar and destroyed Microsoft’s image on NDC event. The Microsoft developers song was shouting out loud that “I’m a developer” and initially it was good. But later everyone just became a statue when the song went like “The words MICRO and SOFT don’t apply to my PENIS! (or vagina)” and “We are here to party and coding is our drug!” Yes that was shocking for the audience over there. Microsoft might have thought that it will become a hilarious and fun factor for the show but people looked at it in a different way.

Microsoft issued a statement after NDC 2012:

“This week’s Norwegian Developer’s Conference included a skit that involved inappropriate and offensive elements and vulgar language. We apologize to our customers and our partners and are actively looking into the matter.”

I guess, no PR company can just make a song and do it on behalf of Microsoft without Microsoft knowing it. Microsoft sometimes make bad choices or things go really strange and people are stunted to see what they do. Microsoft back in 2009 did a dance in their store which had to be kind of flashmob but was not. Similarly, back in years, we saw Steve Ballmer dancing and shouting on stage. At CES 12, Microsoft presented an offensive tweet song.

People in Australia got quite frustrated with the Apple’s New iPad WiFi + 4G tablet because it was not supporting the 4G LTE networks of Australia. Apple therefore offered a refund because the 4G network of Australia was not connecting to the New iPad 3. The New iPad was able to connect with the US 4G networks but the Australian network of Telstra got out of their hands.

Now as a compensation, Apple agreed to pay $2.25 Million for the New iPad as people claimed that Apple Australia mislead them in selling their new product. The term used by Apple on their website “WiFi + 4G” is considered to be as misleading information which made the users to buy the new iPad and later realizing that it was not compatible and working with the Australian 4G (LTE) networks.

New iPad WiFi + 4G description changed on Apple Australia website

Later Apple changed the description on their website as well and corrected it to “WiFi + Cellular” as the model description of the new iPad. They also added a caption on the Apple Australia website saying:

This product supports very fast cellular networks. It is not compatible with current Australian 4G LTE networks and WiMax networks.

For service from wireless carrier, sign up for a simple, month-by-month plan on your iPad and cancel anytime without penalty.

Despite offering the full refund The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission took this issue to the federal court. The settlement claim is yet to finalize as the court has adjourned the case until Wednesday to gather more information.

World’s top selling smartphone is without any doubt the Apple iPhone series. From the day one till today iPhone has a class and keeps a standard. Like I always say, Apple does not make the products for everyone. Only some of the people can afford it, and that’s what makes iPhone a hot seller too. After the success of iPhone 4S it is expected that Apple is going to release iPhone 5 somewhere in October or November 2012. There are lots of rumors around the Internet about the looks of the new iPhone 5. One of the website got their hands on the housing of Apple iPhone 5 which shows how the new iPhone 5 looks like.

The bigger screen smartphones are trending in the market these days. Even at the launch of iPhone 4S there were smartphones in the market which some say are competitors to iPhone, already had the large screen size as compared to iPhone 4S. But as always, Apple try to keep things simple, straight and classy. The iPhone competitor smartphones have up to 4.6inches of screen which makes a phone go very big. We have reviewed number of other Android handsets and almost every other smartphone is trying to give a bigger screen. Apple keep things on the other track and rather putting up huge brick size phones in the users hand, Apple try to keep it small and keep a phone as a phone and a tablet as a tablet. If you want a bigger screen, Apple already has the new iPad which will serve your business. I too agree on this, that the screen size of iPhone 4S and the overall size of the handset is perfect and is very handy to use.

iPhone 5 Pictures Leaked:

9to5Mac released some of the pictures last month of Apple iPhone 5 housing which showed the body build. It was seen in those pictures that Apple is releasing a new connector for the iPhone 5 which is smaller in size. It’s size is something similar to the mircoUSB slot. May be, Apple is going to give out the same microUSB which is becoming a standard for every other handset these days. May be the new iPhone 5 data cable is going to change. I am also hearing rumors that Apple will release an adapter/converter type of thing so that people with their old data cable connectors can use them by putting an extension adapter to it, which will give the output as a smaller newly designed structure for iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 leaked pictures show that the shape of iPhone remains the same as iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S but the size is increased. iPhone 5 screen size is 4.08 inches and looks quite good and will still make it look quite handy to use. The width of iPhone 5 is kept the same same as iPhone 4S but the height is increased to adjust the new bigger screen. May be the screen is going to be edge-to-edge from the sides to give a more wider space and look. But if we look at the resolution which is expected to be on iPhone 5 is still 640 in width, which means the screen width may remain the same, but the height will increase.

Today eTradeSupply also released a video of the same body build of iPhone 5 and made it more surprising for the users that the iPhone 5 leaked pictures were real. The video shows a comparison of both iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S side by side. The audio jack port of iPhone 4S has been removed from the top in iPhone 5 and brought at the bottom. The new iPhone 5 will have a new smaller size data connection port dock. And most importantly, the new iPhone 5 is thinner than iPhone 4S.

Another big change is the SIM card slot. iPhone 5 SIM card tray is much smaller than iPhone 4S. So may be, iPhone 5 wants to bring out a totally new SIM card for their iPhone 5 which is going to be even smaller than the currently used micro SIM in iPhone 4S. If this is the case, it means Apple is seriously trying to kill the gray channel export of iPhone to the countries and mobile operators which will not be affiliated with Apple. Currently in most of the countries where iPhone is not sold directly by Apple, the customers use the SIM cutter to make their SIM card as micro SIM for iPhone 4S. So if iPhone 5 is bringing out a new size exclusively, it means Apple is going to restrict their customers to only limited number of mobile operators and countries.

iPhone 5 has unibody built which means that the back and the center piece are now a single built unlike iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S has the screen size of 3.5 inches and in new iPhone 5 leaked pictures and video it shows that the screen size is increased in the height and it will be 4.08 inches. iPhone 5 resolution will be 1136×640 (320PPI). Yes! still not an HD 720p screen. This is quite confusing for me that the competitors of iPhone are already giving out 720p HD screen so why would Apple want to lag behind.

The iPhone 5 body housing looks slimmer as compared to the iPhone 4S and may be iPhone 5 will be lighter in weight as compared to iPhone 4S. But in the video, the LCD / screen was not shown attached to the housing. May be just like the iPhone 4S the screen will pop out of the center aluminum body of iPhone 5 so will only make very minor change in the thickness of iPhone 5.

[youtube 8XY841RAY4Y]

New iPhone 5 Body Changes:

Data cable connector port size reduced. A new data cable will be there for the new iPhone 5.

New SIM card tray, even smaller than the current iPhone 4S micro SIM card.

Audio jack port moved to the bottom

Loudspeaker and Microphone space at the bottom has bigger holes.

Height of the handset increased to accommodate 4 inches screen.

The New iPhone 5 is slimmer than iPhone 4S

The back side of the phone is a metal aluminum plate.

Nokia claims that these handsets are equipped with the fastest browser to give best Internet experience to the users. One of the key features is that the handsets consume very low data connectivity (GPRS Usage) because of the well encrypted browser available in Nokia 110 and Nokia 112. The Facebook and Twitter apps are also available preloaded into the mobile phone and are easily accessible from the home screen.

After looking at these both handsets the first thought that comes to my mind is that Nokia is going to get into competition with the Chinese mobile phones which are getting popular. Most of these Chinese mobile phones have dual SIM connectivity and provide little features for Internet access (GPRS). By releasing these type of low-end mobile phones Nokia is going to get back it’s lost market and in return those low-end users who only used to make calls and SMS from their mobile phones will start using Internet. I would really consider these type of Nokia basic phones as low-end smartphones which enable the users to have most of the daily usage features. Like all the other companies, Nokia is also making tightly integrated mobile phones for Facebook and Twitter. Without any doubt, Nokia 110 and Nokia 113 are the best Nokia dual SIM mobile phones.

From the start of this year, Huawei started taking things seriously about Android smartphones market. Initially Huawei had been on the backend and provided major infrastructure for the mobile and telecom networks around the world. Today I got my hands on their new mid-range handset Huawei Ascend Y 200.

Huawei Ascend Y 200 benchmark with Quadrant looks good and I also checked with AnTuTu benchmark and the graphic acceleration was pretty good. The graphic rendering was from 26fps to 36fps. I will be posting the complete review of the handset later this week.

Huawei Ascend Y – Front View

Huawei Ascend Y has a 3.5inches HVGA screen and the front panel got just three navigation buttons. On the side it has the volume control buttons and on the top has the power button on the left side.

Huawei Ascend Y – Back View

The back cover of Huawei Ascend Y has a good texture with the camera in the middle and the speaker right beside the camera. More pictures will be shared on our facebook page. Complete specification of Huawei Ascend Y will be shared on our facebook page and also wait for the complete review of the handset.

Criminals are on social media too, if you don’t believe it read this story and few other incidents happened in the past few months and all these stupid thieves and robbers were arrested too. In the area of Calima, north of the city of Cali, Colombia two Internet cafe robbers were arrested. They came to use the Internet and while signing off, they assaulted the Internet cafe manager and took away all the money.

According to a Spanish website, two men came to an Internet cafe just as walk-in users. After using the Internet services they came to the counter to the manager and instead of paying for the usage drew out guns. They assaulted the manager and took away all the money. On their way out, they robbed a motorcycle too for their escape.

The manager of Internet cafe called up the local police and while investigation they came to know that one of the robbers left his Facebook logged in. The stupid robber was so excited about the robbery that he even forget to sign out. The police got his address from his profile and calmly went to his home and arrested him. The stupid thief is now behind the bars.

Couple of other similar incidents also took place in the past few months. In December, Isiah Cutler was arrested for burglary in Pittsburgh with three teens and later posted the pictures on Facebook. Last month Michael Baker of Jenkins, Ky., was arrested for stealing away gas from a police car and posted his pictures of his bravery on Facebook.

Facebook ID was in the URL of your Facebook profile page, unless you created a username for your profile. Just like the Facebook page username (e.g. ‘pickmoreblog’ is our username) making the page URL easy to remember like http://facebook.com/pickmoreblog or http://fb.com/pickmoreblog. Similarly the user profile can set the username too, but when you got to find out the Facebook ID for some purpose, its difficult.

Initially there was a way by going into your photo album and clicking on some image and the URL of that image used to contain the ID. But now after Facebook made some changes to their website things are not as simple.

Why do I need to know my Facebook ID?

That is a very good question. Sometimes you are making some Facebook app for which you need to assign certain roles to your profile or some page. In that case, you need to know your Facebook ID rather than the username.

How to find/get/check Facebook ID?

Simply open the URL http://graph.facebook.com/yourusername (replace your username with ‘yourusername’).

As an example, if I do it with our Facebook page’s username, we get the following result:

http://graph.facebook.com/pickmoreblog

{
 "id": "164031703610865",
 "name": "PickMore",
 "picture": "http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/187786_164031703610865_5876946_s.jpg",
 "link": "https://www.facebook.com/PickMoreBlog",
 "likes": 483,
 "category": "Website",
 "is_published": true,
 "website": "http://www.PickMore.com",
 "username": "PickMoreBlog",
 "founded": "2008",
 "company_overview": "Pickmore.com - Reviews and Views about the latest technologies...",
 "mission": "Reviews and views about the latest technologies ...",
 "about": "Pickmore.com is a technology blog with latest reviews and views about gadgets...",
 "talking_about_count": 8
}

So you see, it provides the facebook ID, the name of the profile or page, display picture link, link to your profile or page, and few other things.

I hope you won’t forget to leave your comments and link this post.

Intel held a bloggers meet up in Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore on March 15th 2012 to demonstrate their new UltraBook technology. They wanted to unveil the amazing new UltraBook to the bloggers because these are the people who can actually tell about the pros and cons of the product. The world has changed from just ‘media’ into ‘social media’.

Intel demonstrated two models of Intel UltraBooks – Acer and Asus, which are available in Pakistan right now. HP and Dell are on its way around mid of June and the Intel Core processor Sandy Bridge will complete in UltraBook series by then. If I look at the advantages of having an UltraBook, I can see quite a few and talking about disadvantages, I don’t find any except the small screen size. You get big battery time i.e. up to 8 hours, light weight as feather, portable, ultra responsive, speed, hence everything is in it.

Intel’s 3rd Generation Core Processor “Ivy Bridge” series will be coming out by the mid of 2012 which will increase the performance and battery life of UltraBooks more. In 2013 the Intel’s 4th Generation Core Processor “Haswell” will be a record breaking series which will give 20 times more power to the current processor especially to the battery life. If I do a rough calculate 20 times of the current 8 hours standby is 160 hours, i.e. around 6 days of standby.

The Asus UltraBook was a center of attraction for me because of the beautiful texture on the back and the body build was excellent. Asus on the other hand used a plastic body to reduce the weight. Asus UltraBook was best and I was pretty amazed with the sound quality and speaker volume which was quite high as compared to Apple MacBook Air. Though Asus was a bit heavier than expected but with the Ultra Responsive effect it took my heart away.

Mr. Naveed Siraj, Country Manager Intel Pakistan was the guest speaker at the event and unveiled the possibilities of Intel UltraBook and told the bloggers what is available in the market and what is yet to come from Intel. Whether it’s gaming or simple office usage, Intel Core i5 and Core i7 UltraBook does it all.

Following is the fact sheet of the Intel UltraBooks:

Intel’s research shows that people want technology to help them get things done, to be more productive, and to learn and advance themselves. People also want to be in control, know that their identity is protected, and that their data can be safeguarded if a computer is stolen or lost.

People want to express themselves and create, whether it’s putting together an online photo scrapbook, editing the next blockbuster family movie, creating a blog, or creating music. They want to connect with others and share those creations. They also want seamless, immersive experiences, be it while playing a game, watching the latest show or movie, or simply surfing the Web, or putting the polishing touches on that big presentation. The Ultrabook device aims to deliver on all of these desires and more.

The new class of ‘must-have,’ no-compromise notebooks will increasingly deliver best-in-class performance, built-in security and will be ultra responsive and ultra sleek in thin, light and sexy designs. With substantially longer battery life and offered at mainstream price points, Intel expects the Ultrabook device to be as transformational to mobile computing as Intel® Centrino® Mobile technology was more than eight years ago. The first Ultrabook devices hit the market for holiday 2011, with more coming in 2012.

Highlights

The Ultrabook device is an emerging new breed of no-compromise computers that will increasingly combine best-in-class performance, improved responsiveness and battery life, and built-in security in thin, elegant, must-have mobile designs.

Ultrabook devices will arrive in three phases, each adding more exciting features (touch, security, faster wake-on-resume, etc.) and sleeker, thinner designs, beginning with initial coming to market for holiday 2011.

Intel is investing significant money and resources to create and accelerate the Ultrabook device category. This includes the $300 million Ultrabook Fund from Intel Capital that invests in companies around the globe that are innovating in hardware, software, battery technology, and design.

Key Ultrabook Targeted Features

Thin/light designs: Less than 21 mm thick; some are much thinner.

Ultra-fast start-up: In addition to supporting third-party solutions, Intel is developing and bringing to market capabilities that improve the appeal of Ultrabook designs. For example, Intel® Rapid Start Technology gets your system up and running faster from even the deepest sleep, saving time and battery life. The system wakes up almost instantly and gives users quick access to their data and applications.

Extended battery life: Ultrabook devices offer between 5 and 8 hours of battery life, even in the sleekest form factors, and last much longer when not in use than traditional notebooks.

Security enabled: An Ultrabook is also enabled with features that help protect itself and its user. Ultrabook bios/firmware is enabled to expose hardware features for Intel® Anti-Theft Technology and Intel® Identity Protection Technology.

Processor: Powered by Intel® Core Processor Family for Ultrabook.

Future Specifications

As with Intel Centrino mobile technology, the transition to the new “ultra” era of mobile computing will take significant work across the industry and it will take time. Ultrabook devices will arrive in three phases, each adding more must-have features and sleeker, thinner designs. The first phase is already underway, as initial Ultrabook devices based on 2nd generation Intel Core processors started arriving in the market in 2011. Phase two continues in 2012 with Ultrabook devices based on “Ivy Bridge.” And phase three starts in 2013, when Intel expects the majority of the market to have undergone the conversion to Ultrabook devices with its next-generation “Haswell” processor.

2012 models based on Intel’s 3rd generation Intel Core processors (codenamed “Ivy Bridge”) are expected to deliver greater gen over gen performance, faster graphics, and greater variety of screen sizes, models and form factors.

2013 models based on Intel’s next generation “Haswell” processors will deliver longer connected standby battery life (more than 10 days expected in some cases), as a result of the more than 20x anticipated reduction in connected standby power in “Haswell”.

Today I faced a strange issue with my Apple iPhone 4S after upgrading from iOS5.0.1 to iOS5.1. All the data from your iPhone is first backed up automatically and then restored when you upgrade iOS. So during this transition my contact list got weird and the sorting order changed from Last Name, First Name to First Name, Last Name. I tried setting the order back to Last Name, First Name but it reverts back automatically. Finally I found the solution to fix iPhone contact list sorting order.

The problem was strange in one more sense, that the iPhone contact list sort order was shown perfectly in the ‘Contacts‘ but when I go into the ‘Messages’ and try to add a person from the contact list, there the order varies from what I wanted. In ‘Contacts‘ it was showing me Last Name, First Name but from Messages it was showing me First Name, Last Name.

I tried going into the Settings >Mails, Contacts, Calendars >Contacts and set the Sort Order and Display Order to Last, First. It showed me Last, First Name order in the Contacts/Phonebook but through ‘Messages’ while adding a contact is showed me First, Last. I tried resetting this option couple of times, even tried syncing and setting preference in the iCloud Contacts but the problem remained.

Finally I found a solution to it and would like to share it with you guys so that if you have any such problem with your iPhone, iPhone 3, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S you can fix your contact list sort and display order.

How to fix last name, first name iPhone contact list order after upgrading iOS Firmware?

Go to Settings

Go to Mails, Contacts, Calendars

Go into ‘Fetch New Data‘

Turn off the ‘Push‘

Turn on the ‘Push‘

Go to your Contacts, and you are done.

Basically the problem was from the Push server setting which didn’t pust the right sorting and display order from iCloud or whatever place you are syncing your contacts with. Once you turn off the Push and enable it again, the server will push the data again which ultimately will resolve your problem of iPhone contact list soft order.

Huawei came in late, but striking the world with a pat on their back they told everyone that you have done enough now let us show you what a smartphone is. Huawei started manufacturing low end mobile phones initially and slowly came into action with the middle-end and high-end smartphones. Their main focus is towards Android operating system which is surely going to give them a boost in this field. I managed to get my hands on Huawei Ascend P1 which is a high-end smartphone and world’s slimmest so far.

Huawei claims that their new upcoming smartphone namely ‘Huawei Ascend P1‘ and ‘Huawei Ascend P1S‘ are the world’s slimmest and lightest smartphones to date. The ceramic white back of the handset looked really good. The build quality of the phone was very good, the weight was evenly distributed, rather I would say it was weightless. I managed to get my hands on this handset and a lot of others like ‘Huawei Ascend D quad‘. I would like to share the two photos of Ascend P1 and soon will be writing a full review on these both handsets. As per specifications Huawei Ascend P1 is a 1.5GHz Dual Core processor, 4.3 inches Super AOMLED multi-touch with Gorilla glass screen and is the world’s lightest smartphone with respect to its weight. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is customized by Huawei and their customized UI looks very good and stands out. Huawei Ascend P1 is expected to launch in the market around May/June 2012.

Nokia today on World Mobile Conference 2012 announced an amazing new smartphone.

Nokia 808 PureView is a Symbian Belle operating system based smartphone with a 1.3GHz single core processor and 512MB RAM but with an amazingly high 41megapixel camera (38megapixel effective). In the QA session of Nokia Press conference at WMC, someone asked the speaker to verify again that does it take 5megapixel picture, 8 megapixel or 38 megapixel. The answer was, it does it all. When you take the image at 5megapixel, the density of the picture increases. Same is the case with 8 megapixel, but when you go for 38megapixel, it takes out every detail of the scene to be captured.

What is the price of Nokia 808 Pureview? A question that everyone is asking after listening to the 41-megapixel gigantic news. The price of Nokia 808 PureView is expected to be 450Euros but yet, it is not confirmed that when it will be available in the market. I am sure no one was expecting this from Nokia at WMC12 and for sure, Nokia took the lead and stole the show.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-3810" title="Nokia 808 PureView 41 Megapixel Camera Phone with 1.3GHz processor and 1080p video recording.

The most talked and questioned factors about Nokia 808 PureView were the operating system, camera and battery. Everyone is concered about that, why Nokia chose Symbian Belle as the operating system for this smartphone? The second question is obviously about the camera that, does it actually have the 41-megapixel camera? It’s a very big jump and no one was even thinking about 41 megapixel straight away. Even these many megapixels are not so common in digital cameras. The digital cameras are also revolving around 16megapixel. So to be clear, it has a 41-megapixel sensor but the effective capturing is at 38-megapixel. The third thing which I think may be a problem in the later stage and Nokia will have to think about it, is the battery. Nokia 808 PureView has a very small 1400mAh battery. Will it be able to support the new Nokia Belle OS on 1.3GHz processor with the high end 41MP camera and the 1080p video recording feature? I guess I will be only able to record 30mins of video with a 100% battery life. I hope I am wrong and lets keep our eyes on this new smartphone. Nokia 808 PureView will be available in three colors – Black, Red and White.

Last week the world’s biggest and most popular file sharing service website Megaupload.com was blocked and seized by FBI because of the anti-piracy law. Just a day after SOPA and PIPA were withdrawn megaupload was seized by FBI on somewhat same basis what SOPA was claiming. Just few minutes ago, second most popular file hosting website, filesonic shutdown and disabled their file sharing functionality

Filesonic.com is a popular file sharing service, which just few minutes ago disabled their functionality of file sharing. If you are not able to download any file from a filesonic link, you don’t need to worry. There is a new notice on the website saying:

All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.

Following is the screenshot of the website too.

It looks like Filesonic would have been threatened by FBI exactly the same way as Megaupload.com was. So now after this newly announcement by FileSonic only the files that you have uploaded personally will be downloaded by your own self. Eventually, FileSonic is going to become something like Dropbox and other personal data backup services. Few days back, FileServe.com another file sharing website also disabled member accounts in a huge number who were uploading files and earning money from the downloads.

I am not sure what happened with FileSonic.com yet. My assumption is that they might be threatened by FBI too with the Anti-Privacy Act. We will keep you updated with the new development on the filesonic shutdown and other major file sharing websites. Stay tuned with us.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Design:

HTC made this new smartphone’s design stand out and can easily be distinguished from the former HTC Sensation. Why? Because HTC Sensation XE and HTC Sensation body built is same, the only difference is the color and the Beats Audio logo at the back. A black and red color theme is given to HTC Sensation XE so that it has its own identity and goes with the color scheming of Beats by Dr. Dre. The red wire earphones are specially made for HTC Sensation XE, giving the power of Beats Audio (beside the music app installed in the phone).

The huge earpiece bar at the top front in red color makes it very prominent and appealing with all the black metallic surrounding. On the right side of the ear piece is the VGA camera and on the left side there’s the sensor. The second change on the front of the handset is the navigation keys color. The 4 navigation keys at the bottom are now in red color too. Again, even after giving out the second version of HTC Sensation, HTC didn’t put the dedicated camera button. The back of the handset is also the same as of HTC Sensation but to make XE more prominent HTC added the Beats Audio logo at the bottom and the circular ring around the camera turned red from blackish silver. The speaker is at the same position as it was in HTC Sensation. The only disadvantage that I felt in such speaker was that when you put it on your bed, the ringer sound decreases and mostly you won’t even realize that your phone was ringing. The antenna is in the back cover of HTC Sensation XE, so incase if you lose the back cover or it breaks down, you lose your antenna and hence your phone will not be usable. Once I even felt the death grip which turned off the Wifi and GSM signals on the handset too, but it was minor and hardly noticeable.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Display, User Interface & Usability:

The 4.3 inches Super LCD screen and the qHD resolution made the phone look super sexy. I was pretty impressed with the colors and the sharpness of the screen. The glossy surface of the gorilla glass screen made the colors very sharp and the density of the resolution made it look crystal clear too. But under direct sunlight the screen was not impressive as expected and at some angels was not properly seen. I compared the screen of HTC Sensation XE with Apple iPhone 4S and was pretty amazed by the color sharpness result, as HTC Sensation XE stands out with the sharp colors and brightness. Yes! Most probably, that color sharpness is because of the glossy shiny glass of the screen. But, that does not matter, the result matters which was good. May be after some time of usage when the screen gets dirty (which it should not, because the gorilla glass is scratch-less) that shine on the glass may go away leaving the same old normal colors (but that is hardly possible).

The user interface of HTC Sensation XE, as always, is top class. HTC Sense 3.0 with the combination of Gingerbread made it look amazing. HTC Sensation XE used the same device unlocking interface as of Huawei Honor, i.e., with a ring unlock app and you can easily select 4 quick icons where you want to go after unlocking. The default keyboard of HTC Sensation XE is very good and I didn’t find anything missing on the keys which one needs during general typing.

The multiple home screens make it easy for the user to access and keep their widgets and shortcuts. The thing I love about HTC smartphones is their usability in which Samsung FAILS even besides having such a high performance smartphone.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Processor, Memory & Performance:

I’m not sure what to say about the performance of HTC Sensation XE. In one sentence if I have to summarize all, I would say, “HTC Sensation XE didn’t get slow or lagged”. And how could it, when we have 1.5 GHz Dual-Core Scorpion processor with Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset and Adreno 220 GPU for high end graphics. I don’t know if there are applications built so far which require a dual core processor or not but if I see the working and performance of HTC Sensation XE, it was very pleasing and smooth.
I managed to take the benchmark of HTC Sensation XE with Quadrant Benchmark, but unfortunately I misplaced the screenshot of it. To my surprise when I took Huawei Honor’s benchmark, it scored around 2100 points and HTC Sensation XE scored around 2300. Most probably the result was low because HTC Sense 3.0 uses more GPU and CPU for its smooth user-interface which no other Android smartphone has so far. The end result was again very good and there was nothing buggy in it.

Talking about the touch and feel of the HTC Sensation XE, it was SUPERB. I actually sometimes felt like pressing an actual key while typing. The combination of touch and vibration of the phone made it very comfortable and easy to use.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Beats by Dr. Dre:

Audio Beats by Dr. Dre is something which everyone knows now. If you are a music lover and a smartphone user, then HTC Sensation XE is the only choice in the market you have. Well, iPhone is something different from it if you talk about music lovers. HTC Sensation XE has a powerful music application built-in which supports the specially built iBeats Monster earphone which comes with the package. “The sound has the bass” and you actually feel the floor rocking.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Camera and Video Recording:

8 megapixel camera, I think I did the mistake of comparing its result with iPhone 4S. HTC Sensation XE did not impress me with its camera. I took same phone from HTC Sensation XE and iPhone 4S and was disappointed at the result. Yes, but if you have not seen any other result then you won’t feel bad. The color sharpness or the colors itself are a bit different than what you actually see. I took some out-door and in-door photos with and without flash with HTC Sensation XE. I would leave it up to the users to see the result and decide.

The video recording resolution is 1080p with 30fps. The quality of the video was pretty impressive. I captured a motion video while driving, the sun was right infront of us, and HTC Sensation managed to get a good quality video. The colors were sharp and good.

[youtube T50n6FkCA68]

HTC Sensation XE Review – Battery Performance:

A 1730mA battery is added to HTC Sensation XE to work with the 1.5 GHz Dual core processor. I used this smartphone under different stress levels like, with full GPRS usage, with full WiFi usage, without data transfer. Under all the circumstances the battery performance was pretty good and with my Twitter, Facebook, Skype, NimBuzz, Foursquare running all the time the handset gave me around 17 hours of standby. With full usage of twitter, facebook and sms text messaging, the battery lasted for around 6 hours with Wifi.

HTC Sensation XE Review – Overall Usage:

HTC Sensation XE is one step ahead of all the other smartphones in the market. A high end 1.5GHz dual core processor and a crystal clear sharp screen, is what makes you feel good about HTC Sensation XE. Beside this, if we come to the special thing in this handset, it is the Monster iBeats earphone which goes like BOOM BOOM with the bass of the music. When I look at the specs of the handset, the only thing which gives a red alert sign to me is the weight of the handset which is 151grams but believe me HTC has worked out good with weight balancing and it hardly noticeable and you don’t feel it very heavy. iPhone 4S is around 10grams lesser in weight but I didn’t feel much difference in the weight when I held both of them in my hands.

About the software and performance of the handset, I played games, used twitter, facebook, foursquare, and all the other apps which I always keep on my Android smartphone. None of them bugged me or slowed down.

I’m a photography lover, so HTC Sensation XE gives me what I want. The 8 megapixel camera can serve the basic purposes of taking photos in some event or trips. The video quality is 1080p so one can have no objection over it.

The smaller issues that I mentioned like no dedicated camera key, or the back cover antenna are not much noticeable if your smart device is working perfectly and fulfilling all the purpose required. I would rate HTC Sensation XE 4.5/5.0.

TweetDeck was bought by Twitter last year and before the start of the new year, Twitter changed TweetDeck entirely. The new look was ok, but feature wise the new TweetDeck actually sux. That’s not what I say, but almost all the people I know. There are very limited features in the new TweetDeck. The New TweetDeck is a native app for Windows and MacOS whereas, the previous one was built in Adobe Air.

Since the day TweetDeck was upgraded and the new fully twitter look came in, everyone started to ask me for the previous version of TweetDeck. After struggling a lot on the Internet finally I was able to find it and thought to share it with everyone on my blog. All I know is, Twitter made the BEST APP for TWITTER the WORST!

Download TweetDeck v0.38.2 (Old TweetDeck)

You can use any of the following links to download the older TweetDeck v0.38.2:

Link 1

Link 2

P.S. I had to RAR the .AIR file to upload. Simply unrar the file and install the Adobe Air tweetdeck file. You will need to have Adobe Air installed before installing the app. Do not upgrade it when you see the popup.

The newer TweetDeck app does not show all the followers when you type put @ sign. You cannot even customize the URL shortening service. Shifting between colomns is very tough. Most of all, you cannot minimize the TweetDeck in Windows Task Bar. The settings screen of the new tweetdeck almost has nothing in it.

Huawei came into the mobile and smartphone manufacturing industry just few years ago and within just these few years have proved that they can deliver what people actually want. Huawei‘s target market in starting from Asia is now getting stronger day by day in the west too. Huawei introduced the low-end affordable Android handsets so that everyone can experience the technology. Later in their next milestone came the high-end smartphone called “Huawei Honor / U8860″ also known as “Huawei Glory” which genuinely changed all the perspective of users towards Huawei and people are considering Huawei Technologies as a major smartphone manufacturer now. I reviewed the handset personally and believe it or not, my user experience with Huawei Honor was extremely pleasing.

Huawei Honor Review – Design:

The handset that I received for the review was a sample and may be some changes are made later. The outlook and design of the handset was pretty impressive with the silver line around the front corners something similar to the iPhone. I also posted body comparison photos of Huawei Honor vs Apple iPhone 4 which shows that Huawei Honor has a bigger screen size, i.e. 4 inches. The height of the Huawei Honor is larger than iPhone 4.

The front of Huawei Honor is in black color, whereas the back cover comes in 7 different colors: Glossy Black, Textured Black, Elegant White, Vibrant Yellow, Cherry Blossom Pink and Burgundy. Below the screen on the front, it has 4 navigational keys: Home, Menu, Back and Search which makes it very easy for the users to switch around screens instantly. Above the screen on the right side is the 2 megapixel camera which I guess no other handset has yet.

Huawei Honor - All Colors: Glossy Black, Textured Black, Elegant White, Vibrant Yellow, Cherry Blossom Pink, Burgundy

All the smartphones are still using the 1.3mp camera on as the front camera. The side of handset has the volume button but unfortunately no camera click button. On the top we have the headphone pin port and the power button. Usually handsets have the power button the top right, but Huawei Honor’s power button is on the left top which was a little confusing at first but later when you start to use it, it won’t matter. At the bottom we have the microUSB v2.0 port to charge and data transfer. At the back on the upper side in center is the 8 megapixel camera with a flash light on its left side and the speaker on the right. Huawei made Honor thinner in width and increased the height, which makes it easy to handle and comes very comfortably in hand.

You can also look at the Hands on Pictures of Huawei Honor which I posted a month ago.

Huawei Honor Review – Display, User Interface & Usability:

The 4-inches TFT screen with the high resolution of 480 x 854 pixels (i.e. usually known as hdpi in technical terms with 254ppi density) makes the handset look sexy. The screen is glossy and the contrast of the TFT is very well managed. Under direct heavy sunlight the screen still pops out perfectly and everything is easily seen. I compared the Huawei Honor screen with Apple iPhone 4 under direct sunlight and Huawei Honor had much better result than iPhone 4. Huawei has really worked hard on this handset to compete in the market and will be well paid off. The user interface of Huawei Honor was extremely good and very well customized. The unlock screen was very impressive giving instant access to things with unlocking. The circular unlock ring has 3 other options besides simple unlocking the handset. If you drag the lock icon to the top it unlocks the handset and directly display Recent calls screens. If you drag to the left, it takes you to the messages screen. Dragging to the bottom will activate the camera and dragging to the right simple unlocks the phone. This ring unlocking UI gives instant access to the users to their most used activity on the smartphone.

It would be unfair if I don’t mention about the keyboard of Huawei Honor because this is the thing that stands out in this handset and rules over all other Android handsets. Huawei’s keyboard IS ONE OF THE BEST keyboards I have used so far. The auto word prediction was super amazing. You start typing and the keyboard will auto suggest you the next word which you might want to type. Like if you want to type “Where are you?” simply type “Where” and it will auto suggest you with next word to come with “are, is, have, and so on”. The swiping keyboard technique is amazing too. If you want to type a capital letter, simple swipe the “a” key upwards and it will type capital “A”. Similarly swiping downwards brings up the special character mentioned on that key.

The Home screen has multiple views and can navigate by swiping left to right or right to left and is easily customizable with shortcuts and widgets. Huawei has their own app store too from where you can download the Themes and widgets.

Huawei Honor Home Screen - Android Gingerbread v2.3

Huawei has also focused on the Messages screen of this smartphone and knows exactly what the users want who loves to text a lot. They have customized the Text Messages app and made it possible for the users to use it more widely. So you don’t need to download any other third party SMS app if you are on Huawei. There is no limit of sending multiple SMS text messages, I sent a single SMS to my whole contact list (which is around 300+ contacts) and the messages were delivered at a very good speed and without any hassle in a single go. While the message was delivered I started receiving back the text from my friends and the performance of the handset never dropped. The text messages to those 300 people were being delivered and at the same time, I was able to write a reply to the messages I was receiving. This EXTREMELY impressed me because even the BEAST (Samsung Galaxy S2) failed at this.

Huawei Honor comes with the built in Task Manager because Android runs out of battery very quickly if you don’t close the useless apps (yes, I’ll talk about the batter life below in this review).

Huawei Honor Review – CloudDrive:

Huawei’s next big thing is the Huawei CLOUD storage and backup facility. Just like the Apple’s iCloud, Huawei has its own backup and storage service too, a 160GB of backup storage space on the CloudDrive where you can sync your contact, videos, photos and data for FREE. Huawei gives all the necessary security and upgrade features with CloudDrive. It is easy to sync multiple devices with your contact lists and easy to transfer data among other handsets.

Huawei Honor Review – Processor, Memory & Performance:

I mentioned a little about the performance in the above heading about the SMS Text Messages delivery which I tested and came out to be extremely good. Huawei Honor has a single core 1.4GHz Scorpion Qualcomm MSM8255T Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU and 512MB of RAM. To my surprise, there was no lag in any application or performance of the handset which made me think about the processor that a single core processor is all what a handset requires. The dual core processor race is not required for the novice smartphone user when the single core delivers everything that is required.

Usually handsets slow down after a usage for a week when the data starts to flow in and out. I used Huawei Honor for two weeks with full stressed usages and the performance didn’t drop.

The benchmark of Huawei Honor was extremely amazing at my end. Usually people compare every handset with Samsung Galaxy S, so a clear difference was seen in the benchmark. Yes I agree Samsung Galaxy SII goes more than 3000 score, but keep this in mind that Huawei Honor is a single core processor.

Huawei Honor Review – Camera and Video Recording:

Huawei Honor has an 8 megapixel camera which captures images with 3264×2448 pixels resolution. The front camera is of 2 megapixels which was also a surprising thing for me as there was no other handset available right now which is using a 2mp camera as a secondary camera. The result of the main camera was super amazing and the best thing about it is that it enables the users to take HDR photos. The HDR Photo result is very crisp and sharp. I tested taking pictures in difference lights and scenarios and the result was pretty impressive.

About the video quality of Huawei Honor, I won’t say much but would rather share the video that I recorded from this smartphone. The colors were not very sharp but were good. The video that I recorded was towards the sun light too, so even recording directly towards sunlight gave pretty good result. Here is the video sample of 720p recording from Huawei Honor:

Huawei Honor Review – Conclusion (Score: 8.5/10):

If you want to have the taste of Android with performance, stability, style and in affordable pricing – Huawei Honor is what you MUST have. I have reviewed number of Android handsets but Huawei Honor’s user interface and usability was THE best so far. I do the review technically too, but as a layman people want to know how the smartphone’s usability is. The Interface of Huawei Honor customized Android is not as rich as HTC nor it is as simple as Samsung, rather somewhere in between both but tending more towards HTC. SMS Text Message lovers are going to like it a lot because of the simply beautiful keyboard. Photographers will like it because of it’s 8 megapixel camera, with 720p video recording. 1.4GHz Processor gives you performance. So in short, Huawei Honor is a full package. If I have to give Huawei Honor rating out of 10, I would give 8.5.
