The Illawarra Family History Group Inc, is pleased to host the 40th Annual Conference of the New South Wales and ACT Association of Family History Societies Inc.
Dates: 12th, 13th and 14th September, 2025
Theme: “They Came From Where?”

First Nations people and in recent history, every other cultural group has come to Australia from elsewhere. Researching their origins can be difficult, but finding out where they came from, why they came and how they travelled adds to their stories.

Wollondilly Library Re-Opening

GOOD NEWS! Finally, after nearly eight months (it should have been three), the upstairs floor of the Wollondilly Library where the Society holds its archives has re-opened. Please visit members in the Local Studies Room on Thursdays between 10am and 3pm for all your local research enquiries.

Local Wollondilly Woman of the Year 2023, Marjo Hallowell will be talking about her book, Bargo Two Hundred Years in the Making. The book details the rich history of Bargo and sold out in its first print run.

Join us afterwards for light refreshments. Books will be available to purchase from the author for $49.

This talk is a part of the celebrations for the Community Lounge Launch at Wollondilly Library on Saturday 29 April.

Are you interested in tracing your family history?

In partnership with Wollondilly Library the Society will host a workshop on how to start researching your family history. It will commence at 11am on Monday 6th February in the View Room of the Library, 42 Menangle Street, Picton.

The workshop will run from 11am to 12 Noon and if you can stick around, join us for a light lunch and a general chat. The Society will then host a second workshop from 1pm to 3pm on further avenues of research.

THE WORKSHOPS ARE FREE HOWEVER BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR BOTH SESSIONS.

Temporary Closure of Society’s Research Room

The top floor of Wollondilly Library will be closed from 29 August 2022 for renovations for a period of two to three months. As a result, during this time members will not have access to the Society’s records stored in the library.

Should you have an inquiry, society members may still be able to assist by accessing records which have been digitised together with resources held outside the library.
