Etsy Anniversary

Three years ago today (May 22nd), I opened my Etsy shop. I remember after a year of selling on eBay, I was so frustrated with eBay raising their fees every few months (or so it seemed) and they had just changed the feedback system so buyers could receive NO negative feedback despite the hell they put the shops through. Then, my mom called telling me that she heard about Etsy on Good Morning America. I was up and selling soon after that!

What better way to celebrate than an email from Etsy telling me they are reversing some of the fees charged to my account!! Etsy has decided to get rid of the standard $.20 PER ITEM listing fee. Now, it’s $.20 per listing. It doesn’t matter if you have 1 listing for 100 pieces, you’re still paying only $.20.

Going from eBay and ridiculous fees and policies and with such little sales, Etsy and their $.20 fee per item never really concerned me. However, I would only list 1 piece at a time. And when it sold, I would relist it so I didn’t have so much of an upfront cost with the possibility of not selling that many in 3 months anyway. My concern with doing this was what if I had people that had that item under their favorites or included in their treasuries. If it sold and relisted, it would show as sold in their lists. And the links would seem pointless if shared on Facebook or Pinterest. Also, this should clear up a lot of emails from customers that thought I actually only had ONE item in stock.

Well, I’m off to change all of my stock quantities!! To Etsy…it’s been a great 3 years….here’s to many more!

Lets face it, some of today’s toys just don’t hold up to kids anymore. You can buy them something at the toy store today to be broken tomorrow. In most cases, handmade toys are so much more durable and ultimately become favorites because of their uniqueness.

PBandJToys on Etsy is a family owned and operated business that sells handmade toys. It started with the same concept - a Mom sick of buying toys that would break. She makes bows, headbands and necklaces for the older girls, wooden toy guns for the boys, and I love the handmade crib she has in her shop.

My favorite gift item was the lego boxes though. My boys are crazy for legos. I’m reminded of that every time I step on one in the dark barefoot or when I have to chase Noah down to remove it from his tiny hands. These lego boxes are perfect for the boys to have their legos with them where ever they want to play with them and they stay contained. The side panel is a base for them to build their boats and police stations and they don’t have to spread their legos all over the floor to find the right piece. With a dry erase board on the opposite side, they can even layout their building plans. When they are finished, they scoop them all off the board and into the box and clean up is done.

I was even able to choose the box and lego plate cover based on my kids’ favorite colors.

Happy Birthday Lil' Man!

One year ago today, I brought this little guy into this world. I can't believe how fast these last 12 months went by.

One year ago today...

I was praying he would come on his own. I wanted a VBAC after 2 previous C-sections so badly. The doctors wouldn't let me go over my due date because of my past surgeries and they certainly wouldn't induce. I tried some home remedies that have proven themselves useless through each of my pregnancies. I had the doctors check before the surgery just to make sure I wasn't in early labor before finally surrendering and going in the OR.

One year ago today...

I waddled into the hospital....STILL ~~arguing~~ deciding on a name for our boy. About 7:30 in the morning, we decided on Noah Ryan but continued to keep our mouths shut. Our family and friends were still texting and and biting their tongues wondering IF we were ever going to name him anything besides FOUR. My mom asked before I was wheeled in the OR if we had decided and I snapped back "Ugh, don't ask". After he was born and we were in back in our room, my mom was holding him and everyone looking at each other as if signaling to each other "YOU ask her". I finally announced, "his name is Noah Ryan".

One year ago today...

My fears were (mostly) put to rest. At 20 weeks, we were told of a possible chromosome abnormality (T13 or T18), a heart defect and a kidney abnormality. He also had a 2 vessel umbilical cord which MAY cause a weight issue until his birth. After about a month, all problems (except the umbilical cord) suddenly were no longer issues - apparently they fixed themselves or were seen very wrong at the ultrasound. But for the rest of the pregnancy, there was a lot of monitoring with ultrasounds and non-stress tests and a few times of being checked into the hospital just to add a little extra worry. When he was born, he was my biggest child at birth and as perfect as can be. No more wondering if they were going to find anything else wrong.

One year ago today...

My family is finally complete. I've struggled with this decision over the last year. I have so many reasons to throw in the towel but my heart still says "never say never". But honestly, I think my heart will always say that no matter how many I have. :P Four kids is quite a handful for us but I am so grateful for them and their good health.
