I was reading the Parent & Child magazine from Scholastic today and they mentioned that children are entering the cyber world of social networking as early as age five these days.
Naturally, I was thinking it was going to speak about what a bad idea it is to let our kids become so attached to phones and computers at such a young age. Instead, it was more about how we should allow them to enter the digital age because, lets face it, this will be their entire world one day. Of course, it mentioned the dangers and the importance of monitoring your children online and also take into account that specific child and their personality and behaviors.

and technological skills they'll need to excel in a contemporary world.

Many experts focus on other benefits as well, such as exercising

creativity and self-exploration, practicing writing and typing,

and learning to handle social challenges in safe forums."

When I was five, I was learning manners and how to socialize in person, make new friends, get along with others, etc. Things are different these days and our kids will certainly have to learn abbreviations, smileys and the APPROPRIATE TIMES TO CAPS LOCK. Maybe I’m more old-fashioned than I thought, but wouldn’t age 5 be a little on the young side?

They didn’t specifically say these kids are entering on facebook and myspace for their minimum age requirement of 13, but there are social media sites for kids. Your thoughts? What age did/will you allow your kid to step into our world?

As I’m trying to think of something small to get my mini-valentines, I glance at the pile of candy they still have left over (and may never eat) from Christmas. I came across this perfect Art Tote for my daughter, Kassadi. She is just like her Momma that needs to have her supplies with her all the time. I carry my Macbook, notebook and pen around and she has to have her notepads and pencils handy at all times.

The colors are perfect, her favorites actually. And, I love that the embroidery was no charge. The design of this tote is perfect. She can sit down, open it up and have everything right at her fingertips. When it’s time to clean up, just fold it and go. It features an elastic band to hold the notebook in place, slots for crayons or shorter pencils, slots for colored pencils, a pocket for a single pen or pencil and 2 pockets on the left side for scissors, erasers, calculator, etc. And it’s held together with big beautiful floral buttons that go perfect with the fabric.

This is perfect for her to take to Grandma’s today, and carry to school in a couple years.

Thanks to The Smiley Cookie, I have found a great sweet treat for my lil’ Valentines! The package arrived very quickly after my order was placed and the packaging was so fun - which caught the attention of my 3 year old twins right away. But, they had to wait until after lunch!

The cookies are surprisingly big compared to the images you find on their website. My 5 year old son didn’t have a problem. My twins, however, took a little longer to eat the whole thing.

These Heart Shaped Cookies are really good. They weren’t too sweet and wasn’t dried out like some cookies you pick up at the grocery store. They were fun for the kids to eat with the hand-iced pink base and white signature smiley face.
