Hi there. Just in case anyone is still looking at this blog...I'm not really over here very much anymore. I started a new photo page at http://jamiedeurmeierphotos.wordpress.com/. I update that one regularly with samples from my photo shoots. I hope that you'll take a look!

So much to be thankful for. Love, friendship, family. Especially family on this blessed day.

I was thrilled to have my first engagement photo session be for my good friends and let me tell you, these two made my first engagement shoot a breeze. Aren't they beautiful? :)

The sunshine was golden. The rolling hills were absolutely breathtaking. And the cows made for a memorable ending to our day.

I love black and white film. There's something so magical and timeless about it.

Avocados

2010-02-17T22:11:00.000-08:00

Our avocados have fallen into curious shapes and pictures. I know what you're thinking..."Wow! Those must be some amazing avocados!"

Believe me. They are! Doesn't that make you hungry for some guacamole?

I hate for them to go to waste so if you are interested in taking some of these home with you let me know! Just place your order. :)

Zooey

This is Zooey. Erik and I rescued her from the Humane Society a couple of years ago. When we first brought her home she was in pretty sad shape. She had a terrible cold complete with sneeze attacks, a runny nose and a eye that was completely swollen shut. To help her to breathe Erik and I boiled water to create a good amount of steam and held her over it (with a secure parental grip :) ) to loosen her congestion.

As you can see, she has long since recovered and turned out to be a "pretty cool cat" as they say. ;) Rescue pets are great! I highly recommend checking out the local Humane Society to anyone considering bringing a new pet into their home. These poor orphaned animals need loving families and as far as I'm concerned no family if complete without an adorable adopted pet roaming about the house.

Outside

Since our veggie garden died it has been covered by clovers and yellow flowers. They are nothing but weeds to most people, but I think they are cute. They have attracted a lot of honeybees which will be great for when we give veggie gardening yet another enthusiastic go. We are so lucky to have a good amount of space for this. It's one of the perks of living in someones backyard. :)

Another perk? There's a gigantic avocado tree that feeds not only us but about a gazillion squirrels. We have learned to live in harmony and to share.

and another perk? Well, we live in a converted garage with no insulation. It sucks for extreme temperatures, BUT it's magical if you love the sound of falling rain.

The missing frame!

2010-01-26T18:05:00.000-08:00

For those of you who aren't familiar with toy cameras, there is a nifty little switch on the back of Holgas and Dianas that allows you to choose between taking 12 full framed shots or 16 exposures minus some vignetting. I like option B because, to be frank, processing 120 film is a little expensive for my taste so I opt for getting more bang for my buck. BUT...After shooting about 5 or 6 rolls of film, I discovered that my camera was missing the small internal frame that makes this possible...and of course I took most of our anniversary road trip photos with THIS camera. Curses!

The result? inevitably double and sometimes triple exposure. That's great ...when you are planning for that sort of thing.

To my surprise the prints turned out ok! They aren't great, but in this case "ok" is such a relief!

The end.

Holga

2010-01-11T11:04:00.000-08:00

My Holga camera is one of those treasures that I stumbled upon at a local camera show in Pasadena a while back. The guy gave me a good deal...too good. Ready for the possibility that I had been conned, I avoided picking up this roll from Samy's for a good month or so...putting off the inevitable disappointment in human kind (or at least shady sales people) It turns out Mr. Camera Guy's word was as good as gold. After all, I made him promise that it worked before I handed over the cash. And then made him promise he wasn't lying to me as I was leaving the building. He gets a gold star for honesty. Here are some of the shots from our trip to Yosemite last October.

First photos of 2010

TOP: This is Patch. He lives next door and is an excellent model.
MIDDLE: Erik and Jake resting at the top of a hill watching the sunset...isn't that romantic? ;)
BOTTOM: A Flycatcher on the telephone pole in our backyard...the only bird who ever comes around.

Jake, Jacoby, Jakington, Jake n' bake, Jakey Wake, Pup n'stuff...the list goes on.

So, this is Jake. He's more like a human than he is a dog. He does not lick and he doesn't care about other animals. The only thing that concerns him is Erik and food (and me when Erik isn't around). Erik rescued Jake from Beagles and Buddy's 7 years ago. Can you believe that this little guy was an orphan? We think he may be mixed with Basset but can't be sure since his family history is a mystery. So, he's part beagle and part mystery.
