Land crab eating season in Jamaica is typically during the months of May and June, in tandem with the crabs’ breeding season. We were on the hunt for Jamaican land crabs in Annotto Bay, St. Mary. Not actual crab hunting ourselves, but to buy crabs (for our own planned crab feast) from crab hunters who would’ve gone out the previous night and caught them with the intention of selling them the next day. On our very first roadside stop, we saw these boys, who gladly told us they had caught 4 1/2 dozen last night, and would sell them to us for J$400 per dozen. Deal.

Nearby, we also came across a family who were busy in their backyard, ‘running a boat’ and cooking up a huge pot of crabs on a coal stove.
