Every year when Christmas rolls around I dread asking C what he wants. I always get "I don't know" or "I don't care baby. Whatever you want to get me is fine." That leaves me scratching my head and searching the closets to see what he has and what he doesn't have. There is one thing that I have learned over the years though, I can never go wrong with something from Bass Pro Shops.

Johnny Morris was frustrated by the lack of tackle in local stores. So in 1971 he rented a U-Haul trailer and headed off across country to fill it with the newest premium fishing tackle he could find. Upon his return home to Springfield, Missouri, Johnny started his fishing business in his dads liquor store with just eight feet of space. The liquor store was a popular stopping off place for local and out-of-state fishermen on their way to the Ozark's famous bass lakes. And when the out-of-state fishermen returned home they started calling Johnny and wanting him to send some of his specialized Bass Pro Shops tackle. In 1974, in response to their demand, Johnny printed and mailed his first Bass Pro Shops catalog. Ever since we moved back up to the mountains, all I hear about is fishing. I have never seen a grown man so happy to get up a 6:00 a.m. before in my life. It is almost comparable to the excitement of a kid on Christmas morning. So when C found out he was getting to review the Fishpond Wildhorse Tech Pack from Bass Pro Shops he was like a kid on Christmas morning! When it arrived C could not wait to try it out and report back to me.

So just what did he think about the Fishpond Wildhorse Tech Pack? He loved the fact that there is a ton of storage! He also likes the fact that the weight is evenly distributed between the front and back. Unlike his old vest that had the majority of the weight on the front. The shoulders and sides are adjustable for maximum comfort and the back part of the pack is padded for additional comfort. He said there are more than enough pockets and D-rings to hold all of his gear and the three waterproof pockets (two in the front and one in the back) are a great feature. Some of his favorite features are the hemostat holder in the front, the two fly and hook holders in the front, and the rain cover in the bottom that he can easily access with the pack still on. He also likes the fishing pole holder and the D-ring in the back to hold your net. The Fishpond Wildhorse Tech Pack is hydration compatible but does not come with one. Overall, he really, really likes the pack and will not go fishing without it.

Daisy Greenway Interactive Camper Review

If you watch Nickelodeon (or any channel for that matter) with your kids then I am sure you have seen the commercial for the Caring Corners Daisy Greenway Camper from Learning Curve. I did not really pay attention to it until I had the chance to review it for myself and now I love the camper and the idea behind it!
On the outside the Daisy Greenway Interactive Camper (Ages 3+) looks like a fun-loving camper but the inside is where all of the fun is at. It features a pull-out cabin and slide (can be used on the inside or outside), bunk beds, a kitchen complete with a pull-out doggy bed and feeding station, restroom, TV, flip down grill, and so much more! But it is the little details that makes this camper special. In the kitchen you will find a recycling bin to help instill good habits and when you press Daisy Greenway's horn you are greeted with a light-up smile and songs. Daisy Greenway comes with cool bumper stickers so you can decorate her anyway you like.

"When your child takes part in a family activity like recycling, gardening or hiking; reward her accomplishments with colorful bumper stickers to decorate the Rearview Rewards Panel."
I love the Daisy Greenway Camper not just because it is adorable and fun but because it is encouraging caring, sharing and a love for the outdoors through imaginative play. This eco-friendly camper has more than 100 songs, words and sounds, that is activated by the steering-wheel horn, to nurture positive behavior.

Since the Daisy Greenway Camper does not come with any dolls or accessories, Learning Curve sent the Caring for Critters and the Sweet Tree Swing play-sets for added fun. The Sweet Tree Swing comes with a baby, a baby swing and bunnies to watch the fun. By teaching little one's new activities and helping them out by pushing them in the swing, the Sweet Tree Swing is encouraging caring while playing.

Growing up we never wore matching pajamas on Christmas morning. Now, when I look back at the pictures that were taken over the years I kind of wish we did. That would save me from the embarrassment of the photo of me in my Winnie the Pooh boxer shorts and matching crop-top standing beside my new bike being passed around year after year. Back To Basics Toys Review & Giveaway

It tickles me to see the toys that I played with as a child are available today. When I see them I become nostalgic and memories come rushing back to me. Not just good memories, but great memories, when I did not have a care in the world. Everything seemed much simpler then, even the toys. I long for Princess P to have those great memories and what a better way to start than with a classic toy from Back To Basics Toys.
Back To Basics Toys was founded in 1988 by parents that wanted their children to enjoy the same quality of play that they remembered and cherished. They felt they had their plates full balancing "real jobs" and children, but their family and friends finally convinced them to start a catalog company from the basement of their home. The catalog was a success and a business plan was hatched. Over the years Back To Basics Toys has continued to bring back classic toys that disappeared from store shelves long ago.

"Our goal is to continue to offer alternatives to the increasing number of toys that are inherently violent, poorly made, or based upon pop culture television shows. We remain committed to being a unique source for classic toys, open-ended toys, and products with quality craftsmanship and value."

When I saw the Chatter Telephone from Fisher Price on the Back To Basics Toys website I shouted with enthusiasm "I had one of those!" Immediately remembering the good times I had with it, I knew Princess P would love the Chatter Telephone as well. Luckily, the nice people at Back To Basics Toys sent us one to review. When it arrived I could not wait to get it out of the box and see if it really resembled the one I had as a child. From the rotary dial to the eyes that roll up and down, it was exactly the same. The only things that I could find that wasn't the same is the pull-along cord is a bit shorter and the wheels are made a bit different. Princess P loves the Chatter Telephone Back To Basics Toys sent her. She sits and talks on it all day. She also likes to push it around on the floor and listen to it "chatter".

Can you tell which one was made in 1985?

To put it to the ultimate test I went down to my grandmothers basement and found the one I had played with all those years ago. Armed with the new Chatter Telephone in one hand and the old one in the other I held them out for my family to see if the could spot which one was which. With the exception of a little dirt, scratches and some missing paint no one could believe that one was new and one was made in 1985. C did notice that one the sides of the new one it has a big F P with Fisher Price under it. One the old one it just has Fisher Price spelled out. This could be the way it was made in 1961 though. It is just so hard to believe that my mom had one, I had one and now my daughter has one!

There are so many wonderful gift ideas for this holiday season at Back To Basics Toys. From baby toys to remote control cars, you can find something for everyone on your list. Just looking at some of the toys brings back so many memories for me and I bet it would you too!

When Princess P was born I had no idea that the toys she would play with everyday could be detrimental to her health. After sifting through her toy box I was left wondering which one's were really safe. While searching for safe, non-toxic toys ecoTimeToys.com was brought to my attention.

The Magnetic Kitchen Bottle Collection will keep her entertained for a good 10 -15 minutes before she even looks up. She has also gotten better at matching the bottle color to the lid color. The bottle collection is hand crafted from select hardwood and non-toxic dyes and it is hand-sanded for a smooth finish. I love this bottle collection almost as much as Princess P does. She thinks she is just having fun playing but it is really helping her develop fine motor skills and color matching.

Although Princess P is only 17 months old, I have heard it is never too early to start potty training. But picking a potty that your child will actually use is half the battle. BabyBjörn very generously sent us their newest potty, the Smart Potty in red, to review. At first glance the Smart Potty looks like a combination of BabyBjörn's Potty Chair and Little Potty with each of their best features. The Smart Potty is the perfect size, fitting wonderfully in our downstairs half bath. Since it has a smaller design, the Smart Potty is ideal if you have two bathrooms (upstairs and downstairs) or even to take on trips. It also comes in bright, bold colors and a sleek design to get your little one's attention. The Smart Potty is easy to clean and the gripping on the bottom keeps it in one place.

So it is attractive and convenient but is is functional? When it first arrived Princess P had a hard time getting over the splash guard (which I guess is perfect for boys). Every time she would sit down she would sit right on it. It didn't take long for that problem to go away and another one to arise. We could not get her off of it! She would sit on it not to go potty, but to read books and play with her stuffed animals. Well, at least she is interested in it! Everyday we work with her on the Smart Potty and I am sure she will be going on it before we know it (at least I hope!).

When I first started this blog I did not foresee the direction it would take. Never in a million years did I believe that I would have this many followers or feed subscribers. For awhile now I have wanted to go from .blogspot.com to .com but I have a fear of the unknown and I am scared that I will screw something up in the process. I doubt I could count the number of Florida Gator tee's C has. They seem to multiply each year and I can never keep track. So when I was contacted by Campus Quilt Company to review one of their T-Shirt Quilts I thought that would be the perfect solution. Up until I told C about it and he quickly replied "There is no need for that, I wear each one of those shirts." I just rolled my eyes and said "yeah right" under my breath. Feeling defeated I went to the Campus Quilt Company website to see if they offered anything else. Much to my delight I found something that would fit perfectly, a Photo Memory Quilt!

Born in 2000 as a thesis project for owner Leigh Lowe's MBA, Campus Quilts became a company dedicated to turning old clothes into lasting memories in the form of fun and functional quilts and bedspreads. After I decided on the 16 special photos I wanted on the quilt I simply emailed them to Campus Quilt Company. Along with the photos, I also sent my backing choice, brown flannel. All that was left to do after that was wait on the quilt to be created.

It seemed like no time when the package from Campus Quilt Company arrived. When I opened the box I was overwhelmed with joy when I saw the photo quilt. I looked at each picture and was immediately taken back to that day and the memories we made as a family. The sashing between the photos adds the perfect touch and the quilting pattern makes the stadium quilt look very fun and attractive (not to mention it adds durability).

I was a little nervous when I went to wash the Photo Quilt but I wanted to soften up the photos a bit. I washed the quilt in cold water on the gentle cycle and then dried it on delicate and it came out just fine. In fact, it actually fluffed it up a bit. While this quilt would look wonderful hanging up, I love to be covered in our memories. Princess P loves it when we spread out the quilt and she can crawl around looking at the different photos and pointing at the baby in them. This quilt will remind us of all the fun times we have had in the past. It includes pictures of C and I when we were dating to being pregnant with P and all of her firsts.

I have cookbooks and recipes galore but rarely do I hunt through them to try something new. I usually stick to the same recipes using them over and over again every week. Sure, I would love to try something new (C would too!) but what if we don't like it? That has happened more times than I would like to admit. But when I was contacted to review a new cookbook, "Spice Up Your Life" by Bindu Grandhi, I figured I would step out of my routine (and comfort zone) and give it a try.

"This cookbook takes healthy, low-fat recipes and dresses them up with savory herbs and spices. Taking a flexitarian approach to eating, it focuses primarily on grains, fruits, and vegetables, with proteins such as seafood and poultry mixed in sparingly. This diet has been proven to have numerous health benefits, and with these delicious, flavorful dishes, there is no sacrifice in taste!"

As soon as the cookbook arrived I browsed through it in hopes to find something to make for that days lunch. Inside I was greeted by delightful recipes that made my mouth water like the recipes for Sweet Pepper Chicken Curry and Strawberry Kulfi. Unfortunately, my pantry was much like my everyday routine, plain, and I had to find a recipe that I had all of the ingredients for. In the appetizer section I landed on a recipe that I not only had all of the ingredients for but it also sounded really good, Garlic and Chili Cheese Toast.

Since I was making the recipe for lunch I scaled back the size to make enough for just me. I also had to substitute the fresh garlic for minced garlic that I had in the refrigerator. The Garlic and Chili Cheese Toast recipe was super easy and it tasted great too! I could definitely see myself making this with the Shrimp Curry recipe.

"Spice Up Your Life" The Flexitarian Way would make a perfect gift this holiday season for a beginning chef or the most seasoned one. I know I am already eying the Spicy-Sweet Deviled Eggs recipe for Thanksgiving this year!

One of the things I always forget on Christmas morning is extra batteries. I spend all of this time picking out the perfect gifts for Christmas and 9 times out of 10 they require batteries to operate. What happened to the good ole' days when a little bit of manpower was all you needed to get that toy working? Luckily, there is a toy out there that doesn't require batteries that will still delight kids of all ages, the PlasmaCar.

PlasmaCar is a mechanical marvel that uses kid-power and a little bit of help from inertia, gravity and friction to get it going. While the PlasmaCar may sound like a complicated contraption it is actually quite simple. It boasts six wheels, a seat, footrests and a steering wheel. Made from strong ABS plastic the PlasmaCar is built to last. The PlasmaCar also comes in a variety of colors to choose from. Most importantly, it has been extensively tested and meets or exceeds all of the international safety standards.

We recently had a chance to review the PlasmaCar in red. When it arrived I thought I would try to put the PlasmaCar together on my own. I mean, it only came with a few pieces to assemble so I thought I would be alright. After managing to get the first step completed the directions confused me a bit and I got C to help. After he got it together we were ready to ride! The PlasmaCar best functions on a smooth, flat surface but all we have is our tile floor in the kitchen. So I hopped on (yes, it is for adults too! up to 220 lbs on flat surfaces and 120lbs on rough surfaces) and gave it a try. While we did move some, the wheels kept getting stuck in the grout lines on the floor. So we let Princess P hop on a take it for a whirl. Of course, she was using her feet to push the PlasmaCar as she cruised around the floor with her monkey. (She is still a bit too small to operate the PlasmaCar correctly.)

So next we headed out to the sidewalk to see if that would work better. (And to give our neighbors a bit of entertainment.) To get the PlasmaCar going I turned the steering wheel from left to right and boy was I off! It is a small little thing but it can gain some speed, especially if you are headed down a slight incline. Stopping was easy, I just stopped turning the steering wheel and put my feet down. For smaller kids helmets might be a good idea. It is not a far fall off of the PlasmaCar, but it still is a good idea encase they hit a bump and become dislodged.

I can see how the PlasmaCar would be hours of entertainment for kids. For example, our niece was over here visiting P a couple of days ago and it seemed like she was on it the whole time she was here. But the best thing is the PlasmaCar doesn't require batteries or any other form of power other than the kid generated kind. So the PlasmaCar will keep going and going and going.

Safety Tips To Ensure Everyone Has A Spook-tacular Halloween!

Kids look forward to Halloween just like they look forward to Christmas. It is a night filled with sweet treats and good eats. Here are some helpful tips to keep everyone safe this Halloween!

If you have pumpkins on the porch with candles in them, make sure to set them far enough away where childrens costumes will not brush up against them.

Help your child pick a costume that does not block or limit their eyesight.

Stop at familiar houses in neighborhoods you know.

Make sure your child carries a flash light, glow stick or that they have reflective tape on their costumes to make them more visible in the dark.

If older children are going out without an adult let them know to stay together in groups and set a specific time for them to be home.

Instruct children to not to eat any treats until they get home and they are examined by an adult.

Check to see if your town is having a Street Fest or Harvest Festival. This can be much safer than Trick-or-Treating door to door.

If props are used (i.e. fake swords, knives, guns) make sure they are flexible and do not appear authentic.

Make sure children know to stay on well-lit streets and never cut across yards or alleys.

Super WHY! Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer Review

Since Princess P is just now getting into cartoons I am just now finding out how many are out there! This whole time I have been unaware of a certain animated show that airs on PBS Kids that meets all of my cartoon criteria. How come no one told me about Super WHY! before? It is educational, fun and adorably cute. What is even more awesome is that Learning Curve has developed a line of educational toys that goes hand-in-hand with the show.

Learning Curve sent us the Super WHY! Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer (Ages 3+) to review. (I am told that this certain computer plays a large role in the show.) The Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer features a fully-interactive touchscreen, an easy to use keyboard, a Why Writer Stylus, and most importantly a volume control. One of the things that makes this computer special is that it has a "Grow-with-Me" Curriculum that helps teach alphabet skills, spelling, letter sounds and rhyming at different skill levels.

When it arrived I could not wait to give the Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer a try (neither could Princess P). As soon as I turned it on I was greeted by Super WHY! and was told to choose a character and level. When it came time to choose a game I chose one of my favorites, "The Ugly Duckling". The game was a fun rhyming game to help the duckling swim. I love the fact that the computer is so interactive and that it has kids actually touch the screen to select options, which is improving their fine motor skills. I also love the fact that the keyboard is not actual keys but a flat surface that easily wipes clean. I am sure it also makes kids feel special to have a laptop computer just like mommy and daddy.
