About a month ago I got together with some of my favorite ladies, Chelsea, Kate and Nicole, to do a fun photoshoot for Kate's new clothing line, Curious Threads. This line is an extension of Kate's home decor and accessories line, Curious Prints, which is already a well established small biz here in Austin. I'm in love with pretty much everything Kate creates so I was thrilled when she asked me to model some of her pieces. Consisting of tees, silk scarves and truly bad ass leggings, Kate has curated a collection of some of my new favorite items that I'm already wearing over and over and over. Hello there! Happy May! It's hard to believe we are getting pretty close to being half way through 2016... and what a year it's been so far. I don't have any small goals set for May and come to think of it, I didn't have any for April either. Not my standard five monthly goals I usually share on this blog anyway... But I do have a little update for y'all!

Back in January before my dad was hospitalized I had all of these ideas, all of these things I wanted to accomplish this year and I'm not here to tell you that all of that has changed because it hasn't. I'm still working toward a lot of the goals I've set for myself this year. There are just a lot of new, unexpected things now that have been added. I've been editing and reevaluating what's priority and what isn't because I very simply have to. I realized not too long after my dad passed that I couldn't do everything anymore. It was too much, and to be honest, I felt kind of like a failure for not being able to juggle it all. But I've slowly let that go and accepted that it's perfectly OK that I can't. Then, a few weeks ago I made a decision to take a leave of absence from my 9-5 job to focus on taking care of my dad's estate. Although it was a very tough decisions, because like I said I really wanted to be able to do it all, I'm so glad that I made it. My stress levels have gone down significantly and I feel like I can breath just a little bit better.

For the next six weeks I'll be sorting things out the best I can while I have a little extra time. I'm so grateful that I could even do this because I know a lot of people can't. I have a plan put together, which consists of things like lots of meetings, lots of long phone calls, deciding what to do with my dad's homes, traveling back and forth from Austin to New Orleans, etc, etc. But, I also want to take some time to just be and try not worry about anything at all. Watch Netflix, lay in bed, read, rest, get a massage! Although the majority of this "break" will be spent making really hard decisions and continuing to confront a lot of grief and sadness, I also hope to give myself a little extra grace. Wish me luck.

P.S. This post had nothing to do with my outfit, but it's a great example of what not to wear while riding a bicycle. Or maybe it's exactly what you should wear. I'll let you decide.

This is what I wore to the Pieceology Vintage pop-up at Byron & Blue in East Austin this past Saturday. I was going for a 1970s boss babe look and I have to say, I think I nailed it. If I were alive back in the 70s I'd have definitely been kicking butt and taking names in this outfit.

As much as I love this look, can you believe I almost didn't even buy the top? I wasn't sure if I'd really be able to pair it with anything, but I took the chance because of how well it fit me and I'm SO glad I did. I've actually already styled it several different ways like with this denim skirt and also with a pair of cropped jeans and some wide-legged floral pants. I love the late 60s, early 70s sort of iconic collar, and of course the bow tie which was the biggest selling point for me. And how could I not pair it with these 70s inspired platform wedges? The perfect combo IMO and although the top + skirt + platforms combo is fantastic, it's also a bit... neutral, so I went out and bought these bright pink tassel earrings to give the look a fun pop of color. I'm so happy with the way it turned out and the pop-up was a lot of fun, too + I was super grateful Chelsea came out and captured all the excitement. What better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon in Austin, TX?!

Not sure if you can tell from these photos but my shoes are grey glitter and I'm in love with them. I mentioned in this post that I've been trying to add more color to my wardrobe, which is pretty different for me, so I guess I decided to start off "subtle" with some glitter and shiny things. I'm slowly trying to incorporate actual bright colors, like these pink tassel earrings I bought last week from Maya Star in Austin. Baby steps, right? Next on my list is to find a brightly patterned circa 1960s-1970s mini dress for Summer. I'm on the hunt!

Are there any vibrant pieces in your wardrobe or on your wishlist that you just can't get enough of right now?

Seriously, how perfect is this location in East Austin? Chelsea saw that Jimmy Page
poster and immediately knew we had to shoot in front of it and I'm so
glad we did. I feel like kinda of the coolest in these photos. But, really, Chelsea always makes me feel like the coolest when we get together to shoot.

Also, let me geek out for a minute about this awesome denim jacket. I found it when I was out thrifting back in December while in California on a buying trip for Pieceology Vintage. It's nice to take a detour from time to time to shop for myself instead of the shop, although I have to say, both are equally exciting. The thrill of the hunt is real, y'all. Especially when you're looking for that one particular item and you actually find it. That was definitely the case with this jacket. I'm thinking of covering it in patches soon so it'll be ready for me once fall hits again.

Do you have a special thrifted piece that you were searching and searching for and then you finally found it and it was just the best?

Hello there! I'm back at it with a new outfit post today. I have a few looks from early last month I shot with Chelsea that I'd like to share with you guys. Here's one we shot at a new coffee shop over in my neighborhood, Fleet Coffee. I had the pleasure of stopping by there just a few days before co-owners Patrick and Lorenzo officially opened up shop during SXSW. It's a must try if you're a coffee lover in Austin or are ever visiting. These guys know coffee!

Anyway, I also just wanted to give you guys a little update on me and where I'm at right now. First, thank you all for the kind words about my dad. I've had such an outpouring of love and support from so many people and I'm eternally grateful for that. It's helped so much during this time in my life. I do have to say that I have a lot more on my plate now than I did before (and honestly, I had a lot on my plate already) so as far as the blog goes, although I won't be going on a big break, I will be taking on a bit of a lighter load for a little while. I'll probably stick to one to two posts per week depending on what I have going on and there may even be some weeks you might not hear from me at all.

May is going to be pretty insane, with me having to travel back and forth from New Orleans to take care of things at my dads home and I'm move into a new place here in Austin toward the end of May as well. I've decided to move into a place on my own for a little while rather than with roommates and I'm so excited to have my very own space! Plus I have a fun trip to New York planned for mid-May with one of my closest friends. So bare with me during this time and again, thank you for all the love. You guys are seriously super great!

Hello friends. I've been trying to write this post for over a week now,
and to be honest, every day it's gotten a little bit harder. My thoughts
are jumbled and nothing is really making sense. How did we get here?
Why did this happen? What do I do now? I wasn't ready for any of it. You
can never be ready when you loose someone you love.

As
some of you may or may not know, my dad passed away a few weeks ago. He was 54 years old.
Part of me wants to tell you about how sad and overwhelmed I am but I
want this post to be more than that. I want this post to be a
celebration of my dad that I can come back to later on and smile at when
I read it. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to write
about my dad and the days we were able to spend here on Earth together
and all the memories we created as father and daughter. Memories I'll have with me for the rest of my life.

My dad was honestly one of the most kind and genuine people I've ever known with never much bad to say about anything or anyone and although there were a lot of shitty things that happened to him throughout the years (Hurricane Katrina being one of those things) he always seemed to look on the bright side of life. He loved to tell stories to just about anyone even if you'd never met him before. That's just who my dad was. He felt like an old friend even if you didn't know him for more than a few minutes. He had all of those really good, rare qualities so many people don't have, but wish they did. All of that stuff came so naturally to him.

My parents divorced when I was a baby and a few years after that my mom and I moved to Texas. My dad lived in New Orleans my whole life so I'd go visit him there on holidays and in the summertime growing up. He'd take me fishing, take me to Saints football games, take me to his hunting camp out in the middle of nowhere. He even took me to Europe for the first time. We loved doing those things when we were able to spend time together. We made that time count.

Once I graduated from high school I moved back to Louisiana to go to college at LSU. I saw a lot more of my dad at that time in my life and I'm so grateful for those years when we lived just about an hour away from one another. Every year I would take all of my friends from school over to his house for Mardi Gras and he absolutely loved that. It made him so happy to have us all there. We were in his city enjoying it with him. These are probably the times I'll miss the most. Right now it makes me cry to think about it because I know we'll never have those times again but I'm so thankful that we ever even had them at all.

After I moved to Austin I didn't see as much of my dad anymore. I was living in a new city trying to figure out who I was and navigating life in my 20s. In the past couple years when I started going through harder times with my mental health I definitely stopped visiting New Orleans as often. I don't think I ever talked to my dad about what I was going through but I know he was happy I was living my life and was proud of me for doing my thing.

We had a conversation maybe a year ago while we were eating sushi at one of his favorite spots about his heart valve condition. I remember he played it off, said it wasn't a big deal. He'd need to get the valve replaced in about five years but it would be all OK and I believed him. My dad had a way of making things sound better than they really were. He was protecting me and I think he was also trying to protect himself. He didn't want to think too much about something that could be truly life threatening. I don't blame him for that. I don't blame him for anything.

In the last couple of months leading up to him passing I visited him in the hospital as much as I could. He was not well and I honestly didn't realize the severity of it all. Looking back at it now it's a lot clearer than when it was actually happening. When someone you love, your parent, the person who gave you the gift of life, is slipping away in front of you, you don't want to believe it and I didn't. I thought he would pull through. I was hopeful.

The first time I visited him in the hospital was back at the beginning of February soon after he was admitted. It was late, about 11PM. I walked in the room and he was sleeping. He woke a while later and I went over to his bed to say hello and hold his hand. He looked so scared. I'd never seen him like that. I could tell he did not want me to see him that way but he was still glad I was there with him. He looked at me and asked, "Have I been a good Dad?" and I said, "Of course you have, Dad. You don't have to ask me that. Of course you have." And it's true, he was a really great Dad.

Of course, I'll think about all the things he didn't get to do and the things we didn't get to do together but I'll also think of all the things he did get to do and all the things we did get to do together. I'll think of how he annoyed the crap out of me when he'd come in my room at 7am to wake me up to go get breakfast with him. I'll think of how aggravated I'd get when we'd talk on the phone and he'd keep asking me what I'd just said because he was so hard of hearing. I'll think of all the fun things we did like Saints games and Mardi Gras and our trip to Cabo and our boat rides along the Gulf. Those things will always make me smile.

Something that does give me comfort is knowing that he will always be with me. Watching over me. Keeping me safe. Leading me in the right direction. So thank you for that, Dad. I love you and I'm so glad I got to tell you that you were a good dad. I know I'll be seeing you again one day but until then I'll be out here making you proud. I promise.

Rest peacefully Paul Oscar Onebane.

Lately I've been loving on all things sparkly and shiny. I bought this pair of heels and this gold skirt at the same time, both from Zara. I've been trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe this year and these two purchases were a small step in that direction.

I'm also planning on wearing this skirt with a really bright, fun crop top to a big SXSW event I'm vending for Pieceology Vintage tomorrow! Yep, I'll be at Swan Dive here in Austin tomorrow from 12-6pm for The Wild Honey Pie showcase. I've been a huge fan and attendee of this event for a long time and am so excited to be a part of it this time around. I'll have all my vintage goodies there plus there will be tons of great music, some rad giveaways, and free drinks! If you'll be in town come hang out! You can RSVP here.

You may have noticed a couple weeks ago in this post that I had on a pretty rad pair of Warby Parker sunglasses. Well, they were actually from a home try-on I did last month. Warby Parker does this super cool thing where you can order five pairs of glasses (and/or sunglasses), have them all shipped to your home and try them out for free! Even the shipping is at no additional charge. You can keep your package for a week to decide which pair you like best then send them back once you've made your decision. Then they'll mail you your chosen pair with your correct prescription. It's a great way to make sure the money you're spending is going toward something you know you're definitely going to love! Here are all the glasses I tried out and also the reveal of which pair I ultimately decided to keep!

1) The Newton

2) The Fillmore

3) The Abbott

4) The Percey

5) The Haskell

I really loved them all, but alas, I don't really need five options right now so I narrowed it down to two. One being the sunglasses, but I ended up deciding I have enough sunglasses so I chose...

The Abbott. Funny that I decided on this pair because the shape is really similar to my Ray-Ban sunglasses I wear all the time. What can I say? That shape just works on me!

What do y'all think? Did I make the right choice? Which pair is your favorite?

An outfit inspired by one of my favorite 90s movie characters, Cher Horowitz. Her denim skirt would've definitely been a mini and her coat would've been by Moschino or some other expensive designer, not vintage like mine, but other than that I think I nailed it. And speaking of coats, I surely won't be needing one from now until probably November. That's right, it is officially turned to Spring weather here in Austin and has been that way since the beginning of February. But hey, I'm not complaining. Bring on the sundresses and sandals. I'm ready!

Two days after I published my February goals I got a call that my dad had been rushed to the ICU in New Orleans where he lives and I needed to get there ASAP. I booked a flight right away and was in his hospital room by late that evening. That's pretty much how my February went. It's very difficult to maintain any kind of routine when you're going back and forth from a hospital every week. My priority in February was being there for my dad so I honestly didn't go too far out of my way to stick with some of these goals I set for myself. They just didn't feel all that important, you know? I did have a lot of time to think while I was at the hospital though so I feel good about what I did and didn't accomplish anyway.

My dad was admitted to the hospital in early February when doctors found a very severe bacterial infection around his aortic heart valve. There have been dozens and dozens of complications that have come up since then and to say it's been extremely heartbreaking would be an understatement. He is doing better right now and I'm confident he'll recovery from all of this, but he has a long road ahead, so I don't really know what this month will have in store for me. With that said, I still do have some things I'd like to accomplish in March but first let's see how I did in February.

1) Set up an Etsy shop for Pieceology Vintage.
This did not happen but I still plan on doing it soon.
2) Find a prepared meals service I like.
I decided last month that this isn't really a priority for me anymore. I'm trying to save money right now rather than spend it and prepared meals can be pretty expensive.
3) Drink more water!
Yep. I bought a nalgene bottle and am pretty happy with how I've been doing so far.
4) Get blog posts done ahead of time.
I did pretty good but I've also decided while everything is going on with my dad, instead of trying to ramp up to three posts a week I'll stick with two unless I feel I have the time for more.
5) Slow down.
Honestly, I was kind of forced into doing this. There is nothing about being in a hospital all day long that is slow or relaxing but I was kind of doing the same things everyday (wake up, day job, hospital, home, sleep, repeat) and wasn't super focused on blogging and Pieceology Vintage and being in Austin and doing all the things like I normally am. So in that regard, which was my intent with this goal, I do feel like I slowed things down.

Three out of five. Like I said, my dad was my main priority so I'm happy with the fact that I still accomplished some of these goals. With March's uncertainty because of my dad's condition I'm keeping things light. Here's what I've got.

Set up an Etsy shop for Pieceology Vintage.
I will keep this on the list. I'd like to focus on this aspect of the shop this month.

Start taking biotin again.
I've spent the last couple years nursing my hair back to health after a six month stint of bleaching it white but I still do a lot of heat damage to it. I'd like to start taking biotin again to strengthen my locks a bit more. I'm also hoping it'll help with growth and thickness! Any tips here??

Taxes.
I'd at least like to start doing them. Now that I have PVTG things will be slightly more complex than they've been in past years. Fun.

Spring cleaning.
I have too many things. I'd like to do a very big closet clean out in March.

As you can see I only set four goals rather than five like I normally do. I honestly didn't think much about goal setting this month. My life has been very much day by day lately. Not a lot of planning going on. Please keep my family and especially my dad in your thoughts. We'll take all the good vibes we can get!

Oh yeah, and don't forget to link up with us over on Nicole's blog with your monthly goals post.

I've been wanting to post these photos for a while but hadn't got the chance to do it. Let me tell you the story of how this adorable shoot came to be.

My friend Leah has modeled for Pieceology Vintage several times. She's the best. And for our last shoot together I ask her to bring her sweet pup Yogi along to take some photos with. But then, once we met up I realized I had two vintage plaid midi skirts, one my size and one Leah's size. I started envisioning how cute it would be if we both had a pup to take photos with together in the skirts... It happened to be raining that morning we were supposed to shoot so we went to a coffee shop to wait out the storm. While we were there we met a guy and his Corgi. I thought, "You know what? I'm just gonna ask him if we can borrow his dog for the shoot!" So, I did. And he agreed! That's how this sweet shoot was possible. Sometimes you just gotta ask for what you want! You may be surprised at the answers you receive.

Anyway, all these pieces are going to be available this Sunday during the Vintage Mini-Market at The Paper + Craft Pantry in Austin, TX from 12pm-5pm. I'll be there with three other awesome vintage vendors: Curious Prints, The Distillery Market and Love Ding. Sips will kindly be provided by Chameleon Cold Brew and Zilker Brewing Company. If you're local to Austin come hangout with us and shop all of our vintage goodies. BONUS!!! I'll be offering 25% off all jacket and coats + select sweater. Hope to see you there. Happy weekend, y'all!

I didn't realize I'd put on all my favorite things at once for this shoot until I got the photos back. The denim jacket, black and white stripes, leggings, a backpack, my combat boots and of course, my flair! So much flair on this jacket. I love it. Also, this is a super comfy outfit, too. I'm a big advocate of dressing casually without looking like you've either 1) just been to the gym or 2) just rolled out of bed. Now there's nothing wrong with either of those things, that's just not my style. This is a typical outfit you'd find me in while running errands. And bonus, I'm really digging this pink/salmon wall. Really makes the monochromatic colors of this look pop!

Here are a few of my favorite vintage shops on Instagram right now. I've linked to all of them and also given a little description about each one below.

1) @charmschoolvintage

Charm School Vintage - This Austin-based shop is one of my favorites in town. I'm sure you've noticed because almost every outfit post of mine has one of their items featured. Mainly my trusty vintage Coach backpack! Plus, they sell on their IG account and honestly that's how I've scored a lot of my pieces.

2) @meekvintage

Meek Vintage - Run by two sisters in Denver Colorado, this shop is so whimsical and highly curated. They even have an IG account that they sell exclusive pieces on a couple times a week @shopmeekvintage. They carry lots of petite sizes too which I appreciate, of course!

3) @mothoddities

Moth Oddities - You've heard me talk about these guys before! Check out this blog post to find out more about this Minneapolis-based shop run by my friends Yana and Ian. They carry vintage from Italy, too + they're on a cross country road trip right now. So cool.

4) @wonsaponatimevintage

Wonsaponatime Vintage - What really drew me to this Florida-based shop was the photography and styling of the photos on their IG account. I'm always so delighted to come across one while scrolling through my feed. Every shot is perfectly executed and just look at their space! Gorgeous.

I hope you enjoyed this post because I'll be sharing even more soon. There are so many beautiful vintage shops out there to explore and add to your feed! Let me know your thoughts on these accounts if you do go check them out (and you should!). Happy weekend, y'all!

I love this high school right near my house in East Austin. I mean, they made all the trimmings mint green. How cute is that? I wish my high school were that cute but it definitely was not. Not even close. I'm pretty sure the "accent" colors were black or beige or something equally uninspired.

I was one of those kids that was always late to school. Seriously, I think I was the last student to walk in the building most days. I was late then, and honestly not much has changed. Sure, if it's something important I'll be on time, but there is a reason why I like working from home, among other things, of course. But not having to be at an office by 8AM is definitely close to the top of my long list. I've never claimed to be punctual! But, hey, I have to say I almost always looked cute. My love for fashion goes way back, even before high school, but I remember I liked taking risks back then as well. I think this look would make my high school self pretty proud, maybe even a little jealous.

What about you? Were you always late to school, early? A fashion risk taker or maybe a little more reserved? I think it's super interesting to hear about other people's high school experiences. I feel like everyone has such a different perspective on what was, agreeably, a pretty strange season in our lives.

I love this coat. If you remember, it made an appearance on the blog a little over a year ago when I first purchased it. It was a bit pricey for my liking but I bought it anyway and I'm happy I did. This baby will last me forever. It's such a classic silhouette and fits me so well. I think technically it's supposed to be a bit cropped but on me it hits right at the waist which is perfect because a bunch of extra fabric tends to overwhelm my smaller frame.

Also, it's totally not cold enough anymore for this look in Texas and honestly, we never really got much of a winter this year anyway. I don't remember needing a heavier jacket or coat for more than maybe 10 to 15 days total which is kind of crazy. I do have a few more cold weather looks for all you northerners who I hear are having some pretty frigid temps right now. So, sorry to all my Texas ladies! But, don't worry, it'll be all sun dresses and sandals around here pretty soon.
Lots of patterns going on in this outfit but I think it totally works. I definitely pride myself on being pretty darn good at print mixing. This might be one of my favorite combinations I've put together in a long time. I think a big key is to keep all your prints in similar shades like you see here. I've got red, black, and white as the main colors throughout. Plus I made sure to have only one statement piece, this buffalo check coat, since there's already so much going on.

Are you into print mixing? Any rules of thumb you follow?

Here are a few shots from the Pieceology Vintage Spring 2016 lookbook, "Across the Terrain", in collaboration with my friends Moth Oddities. Yana and Ian are the co-founders of this online vintage shop based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Yana shot these awesome photos with a disposable camera she bought off eBay and I'm so in love I just had to share them here!

I met Yana and Ian through my friend Gina who I've talked about here on the blog before. Gina is a vintage buyer for PVTG and Moth Oddities and when I was visiting her in California in December Yana and Ian just happened to be passing through while on a big cross country road trip (follow their travels on Instagram @mothoddities with #mothtravels) so I was able to meet them. They told me they'd be hitting Austin at some point and I immediately asked if they wanted to stay with me and/or collaborate on something while they were in town. They obliged and here we are! They came in town a couple weeks ago and we put together this very badass, Texas-themed lookbook. It was so much fun + Yana and Ian are such nice people, not to mention they were extremely respectful guests during there stay at my house. I'm so grateful that I've had the opportunity to meet such awesome people through starting this little business of mine. It's pretty rad.

Anyway, the full lookbook launched today so go check it out on the PVTG site now! You can shop all the looks there as well and be sure to visit Moth Oddities web shop, too. They have some majorly swoon-worthy vintage, y'all!

Here's one of my more simple outfits for ya today. This past weekend was very tough for me and my family and especially for my father who is currently in the hospital. I am here in New Orleans with him after a big scare last week. He is getting better and making progress, but very slowly. This week I'll be taking it slow and keeping things simple. Most of my focus will be on spending time with Dad. Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes. I appreciate it so much.

Geez, am I glad January is over! I wanted last month to be a very productive one, and it was, but I also felt like 1) I was constantly playing catch up from my holiday break in December and 2) I definitely spread myself way too thin with a lot of different commitments I shouldn't have made, which really boils down to poor scheduling on my part which 3) Left me feeling extremely overwhelmed and stressed out. Whew! Aren't you kind of exhausted just from reading through those points?! Yeah, you and me both! Anyway, thankfully it's a new month and I'll take January as a good learning experience in my never-ending quest to better manage my time. With all that said, let's see how I did on my January goals.

1) Read a frekkin' book.
Done! I read Big Magic and I have to say I really loved it. It was an easy, relaxing read. I highly recommend it if you're in the business of wanting to live your most creative life!
2) Become a better photographer.
Yes! I am now shooting in manual mode on my DSLR, which in the four years that I've had it, I've never been able to do before. If you're interested in learning how to better use your camera I'm sure if you google "photography classes" in your area you'll find one! I'm taking Photography 1 at The Austin School of Photography which is a six week course and I'm loving seeing my progress each week.
3) Set up an efficient system for maintaining the Pieceology Vintage site.
I spent a lot of time on this in January. I'm comfortable with the system I've decided on for now and I feel a lot less stressed about it after all the planning but I know this will be a constant work on progress and the site will continue to evolve as my business grows.
4) Learn some sewing basics.
I've learning buttons and hems thanks to my girl Emma! Buttons were a bit challenging for me which I was kind of surprised about but I think I've got it down for the most part and I'd like to continue to learn more. I think there is a lot of value here since I run a business where I'm dealing with secondhand clothing all the time.
5) Put together a workout schedule.
So, I did put a schedule together but I can't say I did a good job of following through with it like I thought I would. A lack of focus and some unforeseen challenges arose last month that kept me from my running. I do have to say I did go to yoga a good bit but now, to make up for the lost time, I really have to step up my running game before my 5K at the end of this month.

Five out of five. These goals were pretty ambitious so it feels really good to be able to say that I completed them all! Now, on to February!

Set up an Etsy shop for Pieceology Vintage.
This is something I've been thinking about for a while and after talking with Catelyn (check out her shop, it's amazing!) and my fellow vintage shop owner friends Moth Oddities (check out their shop, too, it's awesome!) I think it will be super beneficial for PVTG to have not only a beautiful website but also an Etsy shop. My hope is that this will be an additional channel for people to find me who otherwise might not.

Find a prepared meals service I like.
In an attempt to stick with one of my goals for this year which is to lead more healthy lifestyle I think prepared meals might help. I'm super busy these days and most nights I don't have time to cook (also, I honestly don't like cooking all that much) and lately I haven't even had much time to go to the grocery. This results in eating crap. If I can find a healthy prepared meals service that isn't extremely expensive it'll save me time and I'll be eating better food. Let me know if there's a place you recommend!

Drink more water!
I'm buying a Nalgene water bottle like tomorrow you guys! I'm so bad about drinking water. Admittedly, I don't usually drink much of anything during the day which is HORRIBLE. Now that I'm starting to run more I really need to make this a bigger priority, even though it always should be anyway.

Get blog posts done ahead of time.
Lately I've gotten in this terrible habit of working on my blog posts the night before they are going to be published. If I want to be posting more often (trying for three times per week) I need to get them all out of the way during the weekend or at the start of the week. Blog posts take up A LOT of time and I don't have the capacity anymore with everything else I have going on to spend almost every evening during the week working on them. Unless I want to stay up all night... which is not a good option.

Slow down.
Read the first paragraph of this post. I have to start being more intentional with where I am spending my time and how I am spending it. I ran myself ragged in January and I don't want that to become a pattern this year. Less random commitments, more focus time on the important stuff.

OK, that's it. Let's see if I can get five out of five again this month. I have hope! Don't forget to link up with us over on Nicole's blog with your monthly goals post, too.
I feel like this is a very "circa late 2014, early 2015" April outfit. Normally, that wouldn't be the best thing I could say because I really like how my style has evolved in the last year and I wouldn't change a thing about it. But, my Dad got me this poncho/cardigan thing for Christmas and I actually really love it. Plus, I've been wearing leggings as pants a lot again lately, which I wore a lot of toward the end of 2014, and I'm digging how comfy and simple that is. Although I definitely don't want to go back to that time (I wasn't in the best place mentally) I sure don't mind bringing back these comfier looks I used to rock on the reg.

Last week I posted an intro about a new series I'll be featuring every couple weeks here on the blog called Mixing Vintage with Modern. Here's the first installment!

Vintage Item: 1990s Chunky Knit Sweater
Found at a thrift store in Pacific Grove, California.

Occasion #1: Dinner with friends.

Vintage Sweater, Ily Couture Plaid Blanket Scarf, Banana Republic Coat (similar) , H&M Jeans, Rag & Bone Booties, Cleobella Bag (similar)

I don't know about you but when I go out for dinner with friends 9 times out of 10 it's pretty casual. I find that adding a pair of booties and some skinny jeans makes this outfit perfect for an evening out with the girls.

Occasion #2: Running errands.

Vintage Sweater, Topshop Jacket (similar), AG Jeans (similar), Converse Shoes, Canvas Tote Bag from a music festival (similar), Interlaced Goods Scarf, Ray-Ban Sunglasses

This is how you would most often see me wearing this sweater. The #1 rule when running errands is comfort, right?! So, flat shoes are a must. I also like to carry a tote rather than a purse just in case I end up picking up something that needs to be stowed away easily while I run other errands. Plus, sometimes it's nice if I want to bring a water bottle, snack, deodorant, etc.

Occasion #3: Coffee date.

Vintage Sweater, Forever 21 Dress (seen here as a skirt) and Denim Jacket (similar), Black Booties (similar), Urban Outfitters Tote, Brixton Hat, Black Tights, Storie in Italy Necklace

When I'm meeting up with a friend for coffee, ever though it's usually a casual occasion, I still like to feel cute and put together. Adding a hat and a pair of fringe booties accomplishes this without being too dressed up. I also always like to bring my computer bag with my laptop in tow just in case I want to stick around after to get some work done!

Let me know in the comments what you think of this post! I had so much fun putting it together so I hope you enjoyed it. I'll have another one of these coming up in a couple weeks!

This suitcase. Stephanie brought a similar style when we went to Marfa and I just knew I needed one, too. So I took to Etsy over the Thanksgiving holiday and snagged one up. I later decided it'd be a great prop for Pieceology Vintage shoots and I think my instincts were right!

The intent with a lot of my shoots for the shop is to get photos of my clothes on real people to add to the website when I need to update it with new product. I was going to list this awesome 1990s canvas sport jacket and this circa 1970s green sweater skirt I purchased from Italy but I ended up selling them both over the weekend at my West Elm pop-up. Things could be worse, am I right?! Luckily Chelsea took a bunch of photos of other pieces as well so I still have lots of material to work with and there will be new vintage goodies on the site later this week. So stay tuned for that! And bonus, I just love this outfit, so instead of wasting these photos I decided to share them on the blog. Sold product and a cute outfit to post on the blog? That's a win-win in my book.

Since starting Pieceology Vintage I've realized a lot of people are afraid to wear vintage. I'm not really sure why that is, but through chatting with people about the subject I've come to gather that it might have to do with a bit of a stigma people have around vintage clothing. I get a lot of comments like:

"Oh, I can't pull off vintage."
"I don't know how to style vintage."
"I'm not cool enough to wear vintage."
"I can't ever find vintage pieces in my size.
"If I find a piece that's my size it still doesn't fit well."
"Ew, old clothes, do they smell?"

I love that last one... yes, sometimes they smell, and that's why we have washing machines. But seriously, broaden your horizons people! Vintage is actually fun and I'm here to show you that anyone can wear it... and I know that's true, because I've personally styled many different body types, personalities, age groups, etc in vintage and they always look absolutely fabulous in it! What's more, you can wear "old" clothes with all those new clothes you already have in your closet.

In this series, my intent is to feature one vintage piece every couple weeks and incorporate it into my modern wardrobe styling it three different ways for three different occasions. All other pieces will be new. This is my little attempt at showing you that you CAN wear vintage and still look very cool, put together, current, and on trend (if that's what you're into). And there's one other thing. Each outfit, with the vintage element included, will truly allow you to feel unique in what you're wearing because, guess what? It's vintage and odds are pretty good that no one else will have it! Who doesn't want to feel unique in what they're wearing?!

I'll be starting this series next week so stay tuned for the first installment of Mixing Vintage with Modern! Until then, here are a few recent outfits where I wore one vintage item and all of the other pieces were modern.

Styled by Chelsea Laine Francis and myself

I asked Chelsea to help me style up a big ole blanket scarf from my beloved Interlaced Goods and we had so much fun doing it! Honestly, when I bought this scarf I had a really hard time trying to figure out how to style it. I'm a pretty small person and blanket scarves consist of A LOT of fabric. Seeing these photos has definitely shown me that I can in fact wear a blanket scarf without it looking completely ridiculous. And guess what? I'm here to show you that you can too! Seriously, if my 4'11 self can wear one of these, you can definitely rock one as well. Here's how I like to style my blanket scarf four different ways!

1) As A Shawl

For this one you literally just fold up your scarf, throw it over your back, then tuck it under your arms. Probably the easiest of the four ways!

2) Belted

For the belted look wrap your scarf the same way you would when you're wearing it as a shawl then buckle a belt around it. I thought this one might be restricting but it's not at all! Just make sure not to buckle your belt too tight so your arms have room to move.

3) Like Lenny

As we styled this third look Chelsea asked me if I'd ever seen the famous photo of Lenny Kravitz wearing what looked like an actual blanket as a scarf. I hadn't but googled it later... HA! So, this is my VERY subtle interpretation of that. For this cool kid look fold the scarf up in a sort of makeshift triangle and wrap it all the way around your neck making sure the tip of the fold is close to front and center like you see here. Doesn't have to be perfect. The Lenny looks much better a little bit messy.

4) Tossed Over One Shoulder

I didn't think I would like this look as much as I do now that I see it in photos. Throwing one side of the scarf around your should might even be easier than the shawl look!

And my award for personal favorite way to wear a blanket scarf goes to... The belted look!
