You are already familiar with Sarah, Coline, Céline and Luca, who each write from time to time on this blog. You have probably noticed that a fifth writer (that's me!) has joined the team.

Quick biography : I'm Jonathan, 24 years old, I like photography, travelling and Djing (playing and remixing records).

I'll be posting on this blog some of my pictures. I also encourage you to keep me updated with news that concerns you (expositions, fairs, photo shoots, etc). I'll be glad to talk about your work and promote it on the Pikeo blog.

Ever heard of the Pixelist ? Pikeo interviewed Marc Decristoforo, the founder of the Pixelistes portal.

Hi Marc. Can you introduce yourself ?

Hi,

I’m 40 years old and I work as a computer expert. I also spend a lot a time taking pictures and sharing my knowledge of photography. When I was a teen, I was pretty passionate about geology and volcanoes. Photography was a way for me to immortalize rare moments such as volcano iruptions.

Like many other photographers, my first reflex camera was a Canon AE1. It is a great camera which I later took on all of my trips (Indonesia, Italy, Ethopia…). Unfortunately, after 20 years of use, it started showing signs of wear due to volcanic emanations. A 20 year life span is quite amazing for a camera !

When I did some research to buy a new camera in 2005, I couldn’t find quite the information I was looking for. Then I discovered the Nikon D70 and was seduced by its caracteristics and price. I must also admit that my wife, who is a Nikon buff, convinced me in getting a Nikon! I was so excited about the camera that I decided to start the Pixelist portal. Since its launch, the portal has gained considerable success.

Tell us more about the Pixelist portal.

The Pixelistes portal is a place where people share their interest and knowledge of photography. We constantly propose to our members photo contests, meetings, workshops and other goodies like games. It is important for us to create a true community spirit. This is why we meet amongst members very often.

How many members does the community have today?

We have about 20 000 membres. Most of them are from France, Belgium, Switzerland and Quebec.

Are you present at any big fairs ?

We participate in many events each year. This October, we will be participating in Paris’ Salon de la Photo for the first time. We teamed up with other websites and convinced the promoters of the fair to have us.

I encourage everyone to come and visit our stand (G8) « L'agora du Net » from the 15th to the 19th of October. We will present many animations and workshops.

What do you like to photography the most?

I particularly like macro. It enables people to have access to something which is inaccessible by essence. In my opinion there are no bad subjects, what is important is the way pictures are taken.

What kind of advice would you give to beginners?

First of all you should start joining our community! Beginners can receive advice from experts. There’s no doubt Internet has become a great tool for becoming a better photographer.

What do you like most in Pikeo?

I really like being able to see where pictures are taken. I also like the interface which is sleek and well thought.

Last but not least, I like the group functionality, as it’s a good way to meet new people who share the same interest.

Now, the new flash competition on Pikeo! This time, the subject is about your holidays ! You must find the most striking photo of your summer!! it have to represent a moment unforgettable: a moment of enjoyment, romanticism, unusual, delirious, full of emotion … to sum upone moment which you will remember for a long time or that you will tell from your return !!

So we give you one week, not more nor less, to add them to the group "the summer unexpected!".

Look for your best photos and participate to the competition from tuesday, 8 until tuesday 15 of september!

jonathan zimm has been a Pikeo Member since few years now, he accepted to answer some question

1) How long have you been interested in photography ?

I have been interested in the photography since I was 15 years

2) What do you like to photograph the most ?

Landscapes, urban or natural, portrait, reportage conditions. Looking at things and take the time to share a moment with people who i take in pictures

3) What does photo represent for you ?

According to me photos represents one way of openness and sharing to the world.

4) What are your favorite photos on your Pikeo account ?

The latest pictures that I made in Amsterdam. these pictures represents urban landscapes in different moment during the day. We call these moments "between dog and wolf". In the Netherlands they call it "het blauwe uur" or "the blue hour" and I found it very poetic.

5) Do there is some accounts you like to visit on Pikeo ?

I was often guided according to a theme as the different views of cities around the world. It invites us to travel on Pikeo and to discover new horizons, new profils

6) Can you tell us a photo trick ?

Even if the technique is not perfect, the most important thing are the emotion and the message that it can be transmitted. This is not the camera that makes the photographer but the experience
