Others will confess that they don't have a hobby. They probably do; but just don't label it as such. By definition, a hobby is an activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.
Whether flying, stamp collecting, chat rooms, trains, softball, scrapbooking, golf, reading, painting, tap dancing, yard work, crafts, auto mechanics, music, hunting down garage sales, sewing, fishing, cooking, boating, furniture refinishing, javelin tossing or a plethora of other activities or interests the key element is balance. You must find balance between your family life and your extracurricular activities.

Too much of a good thing turns bad. Everyone should have an outlet and a special interest that they enjoy doing for themselves. Self indulgence, to a point, is quite healthy. Escaping from day to day grinds to take some time to devote to your flying hobby or concentration is therapeutic. You've all heard, "if Mamma ain't happy, no one's happy." It doesn't matter if your role is father, mother, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, son, daughter, brother or sister, if you're just going to work or school and have no real outside activities, you're probably not always the most friendly person to be around.

Conversely, if you bury yourself and it seems to others that all you care about or all you ever want to do is fly all day (or hang around the airport), you're setting yourself up or prolonging discontent. People deal with depression in many ways. Some sleep all the time. Others want to do nothing but read, read, read. Still others will spend hours upon hours downstairs building a bigger, faster widget, just to avoid the real cause of their frustrations. Hobbies are supposed to be a healthy outlet, not a catalyst to ignore issues that need addressing.

Likewise, hobbies can get very expensive. Sure, flying, snow mobiles, motorcycles and ski equipment are obviously expensive. But sometimes those seemingly low cost activities can add up. You start out with trying to budget for the weekly flying lessons. Then you need (or want) the unnecessary (but fun) goodies that we all "need" to pursue our passion. "Let's see, do we pay the mortgage this month, or get that (fill in the blank) that you just have to have?"

If your flying hobby is doing more harm than good, if it's dipping into the family budget and time allocation, more than you can or should be spending, it's time to reevaluate. Not stop the flying, mind you, just make sure it's appropriate for you and your family and its lifestyle.

The airlines pass on great savings to the Internet based suppliers and in turn they forward these savings on to you for not going through a travel agent.

Advantages of booking cheap travel online vs. Retail Travel Agencies

So what are the advantages of booking cheap air on line over visiting your local travel establishment? It's quite simple, with technology and the easy access to home and office computers, convenience would be top on the list. When you go directly to the airline discount suppliers web site, they provide you immediate access to their airfare inventory, and you're tapped into each airlines seat availability without delay.

You can view all the airline airfares and current pricing for airline companies such as American, United, Continental, and Northwest all conveniently at one time! Unfortunately your travel professional would have to go to each carriers web site individually, and search for the best online fares.

For most travel agencies it's very time consuming, and they don't make a lot of commission from booking airfare on the Internet for their clients. Many travel counselors get so backlogged that a lot of times they will put your search on hold, and with hot prices online selling out so quickly, In most cases it's too late to get the deals you want by the time they get back to you that day.

Another advantage is when you complete your reservation over the Internet, you will receive your departure information, destination details, and all your required flight terms instantly emailed to you. When you complete the purchase of your tickets online, because it's all electronically processed, you don't have to worry about leaving your house to fight traffic to pick up physical paper tickets. Now you might say that your agency provides this service as well, and your right they do, but normally for a fee that ranges between $35 - $70 dollars for each booking!

Some reputable companies that offer discount airfare are Orbitz and Expedia! They're known to be the largest suppliers of airline destinations in domestic and worldwide flights. With the sheer volume they offer, you will easily find great airline discount prices, and a wide variety of excellent itineraries.

Keep Your Photo Identification Handy.

If you do not have photo identification, make sure you have two pieces of some other form of identification, one of which must be issued by a government authority. Minors are not obligated to have identification. Failure to have proper identification may result in additional security inspection and search. Some airlines may also prohibit you from boarding without proper ID. For international flights, airlines are required to collect your full name and ask you for a contact name and phone number.

2. Give Yourself Some Extra Time During busy hours, or when traveling.

With elderly or disabled passengers, young children or infants, give yourself more than enough time to maneuver through a busy airport or to make necessary arrangements with airport personnel.

3. Do Not Park Your Vehicle and Left Unattended in Front of the Terminal.

The airport parking rules are being strictly enforced and your vehicle may be very swiftly ticketed and towed. So make sure to park in well-lit, designated areas. Find a parking garage or lot you are comfortable with and is well populated.

4. Know What You Have with You.

Watch your bags all throughout the airport terminal, shops, and lavatories. Don't accept packages from strangers or persons who you might have a casual conversation with. Be prepared to answer questions about who packed your bags and whether you might have left them unattended at any time. Focus carefully and answer honestly-previous history has shown terrorists and criminals use unaware passengers to carry bombs or other dangerous devices on board an aircraft, either by deceiving passengers into carrying packages or by slipping items into unprotected bags. If you're unsure, make it known to airport security personnel.

5. Beware of Unattended Packages.

If you see an unattended package, bag or piece of luggage in the terminal, report it to the airport security staff or other airport personnel immediately.

6. Don't Fool Around.

Don't joke about having a bomb, firearm or weapon with you. Security personnel are trained to react when they hear these words. Punishment can be harsh and can include the possibility of time in prison and/or large penalties and fines.

7. Anticipate Having Your Bag and Luggage Searched.

Both carry-on and checked bags are subject to being hand-searched, especially when airline security personnel cannot determine by X-ray machines the contents of one. Keep gifts unwrapped until after you arrive at your destination. Airline security personnel will open it if X-ray machines are unable to identify the contents.

8. Leave Behind Firearms and Hazardous Products at Home.

Many hazardous products are not allowed on aircraft. Don't pack or carry firearms, fireworks, flammable materials, household cleaners, or pressurized containers. Violations of hazardous materials regulations can have harsh civil penalties, as well as possible national legal action taken against you.

9. Be Aware of Your Surroundings.

When you are in an airport terminal or on an aircraft, take notice of your surroundings, and those around you. Especially, if activities or situations don't appear to be of the norm.

10. Report Strange or Odd Activity.

If you see anything in the airport or on an aircraft that looks out of place, unfitting and unusual behavior or potential security violations, inform either a law enforcement representative or security personnel.

The all-new A-380 is trying to make air-travel fun again, with a bathroom with a view. But Airbus is not the only commercial aircraft company, which has their shit together. Boeing is also planning as a standard feature on its 787 airliners to have a window in the laboratories. Will this get more air travelers out of their SUVs and into airliners for those 350 plus mile journeys? Some industry analysts think it just might be the ticket the market sector needs.

The Airbus A380, which will be the largest commercial airliner in the world; will also have a stand up bar, not in thunderstorms. It will have on board showers, duty free shops and scenery. Yes, scenery; flat panel display scenes like waterfalls and such. Internet access, on-board messaging service, fax service; you name it, you got it at flight level 4 Zero. (40,000 feet above sea level).

The Boeing 787 will have humidified air, so no more dry eyes during flights and because of its stronger composite cabin, it will leave the cabin pressure at 6,000 feet instead of 8,000 or 10,000 feet, meaning it is safer on the bio-system with more oxygen. Ready to get out of the driver seat yet and into a futuristic amenity rich modern jet airliner? The major commercial jet manufacturers and airlines are betting that you will. Both Airbus and Boeing have seen record orders for their latest model jets.
