<p>The <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/index.html">Papertrey Ink</a> design team is celebrating today with Cath Edvalson and her <a href="http://www.moxiefabworld.com/">Moxie Fab World</a> blog-o-versary! We are all sharing fun holiday cards and projects with 3 of Papertrey Ink's newly released holiday sets.</p>
<p>I am sharing another card project with my new <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_holidaytree.html">Holiday Tree</a> set and with a bit of my new <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/pp_rusticsnowflakes.html">Rustic Snowflakes patterned paper</a>! I just received my paper this past week and so you will be seeing more projects incorporating it in the near future...!</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e2012875651d1a970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="11-05-09-009" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e2012875651d1a970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e2012875651d1a970c-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>For this project, I used the reverse masking technique to create the polka dot tree foliage. To learn more about the reverse masking technique, see my post <a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/pine_is_here/2008/05/papertrey-may-r.html">here</a>.<br /> <br />Make sure you stop by the <a href="http://www.moxiefabworld.com/">Moxie Fab World</a> blog to see all of the projects that the Papertrey Ink design team put together. <strong>And be sure to leave a comment of the Moxie Fab World blog (not here)</strong> for a chance to win one of the stamp sets as well as the autographed card/project samples the team has created (how cool is that?)</p>
<p>See you soon for sneak peeks for this month's Papertrey Ink release!</p>

<p>Happy November! Today, the senior design team and our guest designer at <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/index.html">Papertrey Ink</a> is taking on the challenge of creating a holiday/Christmas card that includes a photo. You could easily tuck a photo into your holiday cards, or order picture cards, but why not do something a little bit different and creative than what everyone else is doing?</p>
<p>We have yet to take a family picture to include with our cards so I put together a photostrip with favorite photos of each family member from the past year. I really like this idea - it takes the pressure and stress off of having to get that perfect family picture.</p>
<p>The I cropped the photos I chose to 1" x 1 1/2" and changed them to black and white so that they would all work well together color wise and then arranged them into a strip in my photo editing program. After I printed them out, I trimmed out the picture leaving a border about 1/8" wide.</p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6356376970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline" />
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6356407970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-29-09-007" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a6356407970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6356407970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>I used the <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_simplealphabet.html">Simple Alphabet</a> set paired with the "Happy Holidays" sentiment from <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_stockingprints.html">Stocking Prints</a> to personalize the card. If you are planning on making a number of cards, set up your acrylic block with the sentiment and any other wording you want and then you are good to go. Remember to test stamp on scratch paper first to make sure that your words look how you want them to!</p>
<p>The wreath is one of my images from the <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_2008holidaytagcollection.html">2008 Holiday Tag Collection</a>. I stamped the image in Ripe Avocado and then added color to the berries with a red glitter marker.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63563ac970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-29-09-005" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a63563ac970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63563ac970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>This card design is a simple design that lends itself perfectly for mass production. Turn on the Christmas music, print your pictures, gather your supplies, and you will be done with your <em>personalized </em>holiday cards in no time!<br /><br />Check out what all of the senior design team members came up with for their holiday photo cards: <a href="http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/">Nichole</a>, <a href="http://www.poppypaperie.typepad.com/">Lisa</a>, <a href="http://laurenm.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/">Lauren</a>, <a href="http://hemidemisemiquaverdesignblog.com/">Becky</a>, <a href="http://michellewooderson.blogspot.com/">Michelle</a>, and our guest designer <a href="http://anabelleom.blogspot.com/">Annabelle O'Malley</a> are all playing along today!</p>

<p>Isn't this snowman just the sweetest? I used Zoe Pearn's <a href="http://sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/product.php?productid=16188&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1">Little Joys</a> kit from <a href="http://sweetshoppedesigns.com/">Sweet Shoppe Designs</a> for the digital elements of these cards.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a62c8a1d970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="Snowmancard" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a62c8a1d970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a62c8a1d970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>I have gotten lots of questions on printing out the digital elements to use on your paper crafting projects. This picture above shows how I combine a lot of kit elements I want to use on one page to print out. For these cards, I designed one of the card fronts digitally (originally 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" in size that I cut down for the actual card), I printed out a 5" x 7" portion of a patterned paper from the kit, and then a couple of the snowman elements. Putting them all onto one page saves time, money, ink, and paper. I did a size of 8" x 10 1/2" to allow for my printer margins, all printers are not the same so this measurement might be different for you.</p>
<p>I am using a matte photo paper to print (I have an HP printer) out my elements. Right now I have the Office Max brand paper, but other brands will give you similar results.</p>
<p>If you want more information on getting started in digital, check out my post <a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/pine_is_here/2009/09/basic-digital-scrapping-resources.html">here</a> for links to tutorials and websites that will get you going.</p>

<p>I cut out a bunch of these butterflies from Zoe Pearn's digital <a href="http://sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/product.php?productid=19119&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1">Rustic</a> kit (available at <a href="http://sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/home.php">Sweet Shoppe Designs</a>) when I made the cards from my post a few days ago and so I put together some more cards with them. This time I also printed out bits of patterned papers from the kits (I did 5x7 sizes of each one so I could print 2 to a page), punched out squares with a 1 1/4" square punch, pieced them together on the white cardstock square, added stitching with my sewing machine, and then assembled the card with the stamped sentiments and butterflies.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a62297ca970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-25-09-004" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a62297ca970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a62297ca970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>Love these sweet, simple cards.</p>
<p>The kraft cardstock I used here is some that I picked up at my local crafts store. It is darker like a grocery bag - pretty cool. Unfortunately the cardstock is discontinued, I would love to find more someday in this darker shade.</p>

<p>It's a question that I see pop up every so often - how do you tie your knots so they lay how you want them? For me, knot tying takes me back to my Girl Scout days both when I was learning and also later down the line when I was teaching this skill to younger Scouts. The two basic knots you should know about for paper crafting? The square (or reef) knot and the granny knot. Now, if you do a internet search for these 2 kinds of knots, you will most likely find the examples done with ropes, which gives you an idea of what it looks like if you want to go sailing or camping, but not much help when it comes to tying one with ribbon on a card. I am going to walk you through, step by step, to give you a better picture of how to tie the knots and how to make them work on your projects.</p>
<p>Both knots are basically two overhand knots on top of one another. An overhand knot is the knot you tie your shoes with. The difference in the end will be how your ribbon lays on your card.</p>
<p>Let's start off with a square knot, which is the most common knot that I use when tying ribbon onto cards. </p>
<p>There's a little poem I remember for square knots: right over left and left over right, makes a knot neat and tidy and tight.</p>
<p><em>(click any of the pictures to see them larger)</em></p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0725970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-001" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0725970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0725970c-250wi" style="WIDTH: 225px" /></a><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69789970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-002" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69789970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69789970b-250wi" style="WIDTH: 225px" /></a> </p>
<p>When you start to tie your first knot (overhand), you have the right (red) go over the left (blue).</p>

<p>Once the first knot is done, do the second left (red) over right (blue) - the colors switched sides after you tied the first knot.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69396970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-008" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69396970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e69396970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>Here is your finished square knot with ribbon. Notice that the tails are laying parallel to the rest of the ribbon. When you tie a square knot, the tails of your ribbon will lay this way.</p>
<p>You <em>can</em> tie a square knot starting with the left crossing over the right - just do the opposite (right over left) when you tie the second knot.</p>
<p>Now for a granny knot. Very similar to a square knot...<br /></p>

<p>And then for your second knot you will go right over left again (blue over right this time.)</p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e6950d970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline" />
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e6957f970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-016" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e6957f970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e6957f970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>And here is your finished granny knot. This time, the tails of the knot lay perpendicular to the rest of the ribbon.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0b3d970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-025" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0b3d970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a63d0b3d970c-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a></p>
<p>So now you can have a little more control over how your ribbon is going to work on your card. For the card on the right, I did a square knot. The card on the left uses a granny knot because if I had done a square knot, the ribbon end would have covered up my tree image.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e695e8970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-14-09-028" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e695e8970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5e695e8970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a></p>
<p>Practice makes perfect, and the more you practice your knot technique, the better you will know what you are going to get when you are tying ribbons onto your cards and other paper crafting projects.</p>

<p>I just wanted to share the rest of the projects I created for this release that you haven't seen...</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a6b970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-011" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a6b970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a6b970c-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p><a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_holidaybuttonbits.html">Holiday Button Bits</a> was a much anticipated set after the summer release of Button Bits. I love all the ways that you can incorporate buttons with this new stamp set!</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcbf98970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-013" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcbf98970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcbf98970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>Not only does <a href="http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/">Nichole</a> think up the most unique, perfect stamp designs, she also includes the best sentiments using the perfect fonts.  </p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a0a970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-017" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a0a970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335a0a970c-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_2009holidaytagcollection.html">2009 Holiday Tag Collection</a>was such a fun project to be a part of. Both holly stamps I used on this card, that are included in the set, are my designs. I also designed the "joyeux noel" pine cone stamp in the set.</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335adb970c-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-018" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335adb970c " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a6335adb970c-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>The strip on the front of the card is inspired by <a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/pine_is_here/2009/04/spring-fling.html">this project</a>. I love the holiday spin on this idea (and you can see more of this idea in my project I made for Lauren's <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/mtt_cashorchargecollection_webview.html">Cash &amp; Carry template</a> available this month. This project is only available to see with the purchase of the template.)</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc01f970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-001" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc01f970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc01f970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>And finally, a project with<a href="http://www.dawnmcvey.typepad.com/">Dawn's</a> sweet <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_vintageornaments.html">Vintage Ornaments</a> &amp; <a href="http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_vintageornamentsadditions.html">Additions</a> sets. The details and ornament shapes are completely nostalgic and fun - I loved building my ornament and building background patterns with the elements that she included in the sets!</p>
<p><a href="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc05e970b-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="DISPLAY: inline"><img alt="10-06-09-008" class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc05e970b " src="http://pinefeather.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8345241b069e20120a5dcc05e970b-450wi" style="WIDTH: 450px" /></a> </p>
<p>And that font she used for the sentiments! It's so perfectly vintage - love it!</p>
