The wedding phase in my life is now pretty much done. My own wedding has come and gone, and though I still coordinate every once in a while, I took a new job this year that is taking up much more of my time. Because I can't not have a blog, I have started a new adventure that is more personal. Real Engagement: Ashley and Khalil!

Happy Monday lovely readers! I could not be more honored and excited to share this engagement shoot with you today! Ashley and Khalil are two of my most favorite people in the whole world, probably because they are just like Matt and me, only taller. They have spent the majority of their engagement with thousands of miles between them as Khalil attended Dartmouth for his MBA and Ashley remained in So Cal. They had the opportunity to squeeze in some engagement pics on Khalil's last visit to Cali and they chose the gorgeous Griffith Observatory as their backdrop. With up and coming photographer Dakotah Rains behind the lens, they captured some absolutely beautiful moments together. I am so thrilled to be part of their big day and I can't wait to share those images with you after the wedding!

The Week in Review and a Reader Request!

Happy Friday y'all! Not gonna lie, now that school is out, the days are blurring all together! This week has gone by fast! Here are some of the awesome features from this week and a reader request fulfilled!

Monday I shared a DIY decor project to make these super sparkly LOVE letters.

On Pinterest Tuesday, we saw some amazing inspiration shots like this gem from Cathy Heck Studio.

Wednesday I got to share our first real wedding from Down Under, courtesy of James Nielsen Photography.

And yesterday we rounded out the week with some color inspiration.

Finally, for our reader request! Last month I created a feature on baseball inspired weddings in which I mentioned a piece of custom artwork I gave to my husband for our wedding. A little back story: one of our goals as a couple is to visit all of the Major League Baseball stadiums for a game. So I had a family friend create a map that illustrates the stadiums and allows us to fill in the dates of each visit. Reader Jessica commented that she wanted to see the painting, and who am I to deny the wishes of my readers? So here is the painting! (The painting was done by Kelsey Susdorf, if you want her info, send me an email!)

So far we are not doing so well, we've only been to three stadiums together! We have a long way to go, but I absolutely love that we get to chart our progress in such a beautiful way. And, as far as wedding presents go, this one is pretty unique! Hope you guys love it as much as I do! Happy weekending to you and see you next week!

Real Wedding: Misha and Dane!

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am about today's real wedding, which comes to us all the way from Australia courtesy of James Nielsen Photography! This is the first Aussie wedding I have featured, and if they are all as beautiful as this one, then I hope to see more! Misha and Dane met as kids and dated for sixteen years before tying the knot (that girl is WAY more patient than I could ever be!). Despite their grand location at the Nant Whiskey Distillery (take note of the helicopter!), much of this wedding was homemade. I love the absolutely sweet adoration written all over this couple's faces!

How sweet are they? Thank you James for sharing this gorgeous day with us! Hope to see more from Down Under soon!

DIY: Love Letters

Hello and happy Monday! I haven't done a DIY project in a long time so I am excited to be sharing this one with you today! I pinned this awesome LOVE sign from Justine Smith and decided to try it myself:

The image above uses coins for the sparkle factor. Originally I was going to use sequins to achieve the same look. I found my letters at a local craft store and gave them a silver painted base coat.

I started arranging the silver sequins on top of the letters, but I was not loving the look. It was hard to cover the squarish letters with round sequins and I didn't like the look of overlapping sequins. So instead of sequins, I went to my old standby: glitter. I brushed on some glue and covered the letters with a light dusting of silver glitter. Even though the end result is different from my original inspiration, I still love the finished product!

These letters would be a great addition to any wedding decor. You can spell out whatever you want and you could use them as a ceremony backdrop, photobooth backdrop, or reception decor. The sky is the limit!

Reader Question: How Should I Budget?

Hey all! Hope your week is flying by! Today we have another reader question to answer. This one comes from Jenn in Indiana:

Dear PCW,

My fiance and I sat down and figured out how much money we have to spend on our wedding. We know what we want to spend, and what our families are willing to contribute. I thought that would be the hard part, but now I am having trouble figuring out how that sum should be broken up. Is there a certain percentage I should set aside for all the different wedding elements? How do I figure out how much to spend on everything? Thanks!

This is a great question, Jenn, and one that most brides have to pause to think about. Once you know your total budget for the wedding (make sure you factor in all contributors: you, your parents, grandparents, whoever is going to help you out) things get a little more complicated. My advice is to sit down with your fiance and put all your wedding elements in order from most important to least important. Then, distribute your funds accordingly. So for example, if you rank photography as your number one priority, but flowers as number ten, invest a good chunk of your budget to go to your photog, but plan on DIYing some of your flower elements. My now husband and I knew we had to have an open bar, so we spent money on booze. Catering wasn't a huge priority for us so we saved money by going for a casual BBQ buffet instead of a fancy plated dinner. The simple answer for this question is to spend money where it matters to you and your fiance and save on things that aren't as important. There is no right or wrong answer here, just do what feels best for you! Thanks for the question, Jenn, and hope this helps!

Okay, so when my fave photog Ericka from Ericka G Photography posted on Facebook about an engagement shoot in a dive bar, I begged her to let me share it with you. To make the whole thing even better, this dive bar is in my home town, Santa Clarita! And then to add some whipped cream and sprinkles to this already awesome sundae, the couple also did some shots with their darling little dog! Enjoy the cuteness!

Trend I Am Loving: Bunting!

Alright, I'm not going to lie. When bunting first began to show itself on the wedding scene, I was not a big fan. I didn't dislike it, it just wasn't my favorite. So it has been a loooong time since I have been to Disneyland (like months!) and that means I have been spending some time on their website planning my next visit. While there I just happened to check out options for Disneyland vow renewals. And then I searched You Tube for Disney vow renewals. And then on the side a bunch of Disney proposal videos popped up. And then I couldn't help but click. And then I cried. This one was by far my favorite. Make sure you have some tissues handy and enjoy!

Tomorrow will be way less emotional, promise!!!

Things I Love: Disney Weddings

Hello lovely readers and happy Monday! For any of you who know me personally, you know there is one place I love more than any other on the face of the planet: Disneyland. Disneyland has been a huge part of my life basically since I was one year old. I religiously visit the Happiest Place on Earth on my birthday and have been a passholder for the past ten years (I don't even want to think about how much money that has cost me!). Naturally, when planning my own wedding, many people assumed I would be having a "princess" wedding, and more than one person asked if I would be holding my ceremony in front of the castle (y'all do know I make my living as a teacher right?). As much as I would have LOVED to have had my wedding at my favorite place in the whole wide world, it would have been a selfish decision as the hubs is not nearly as Disney crazed as I am (like he only goes there because I make him). Though he is very good about going with me to the park whenever I want, that would not have been his ideal wedding, and that made it not my ideal wedding either. But I'm not going to lie, thinking about a Disney vow renewal at some point in the future is pretty tempting.....

That was a lot more explanation that I was planning on! Let's get to the good stuff. Today I wanted to bring you some of the awesome things you can do with a Disney wedding (and that doesn't necessarily mean a wedding at Disneyland or Disney World). I think most people associate Disney weddings with poofy dresses, huge centerpieces, and a horse and carriage, but to me a Disney wedding doesn't have to equal princess. Disney is all about being fun, playful and a kid at heart, and that is what I love about Disney weddings and that's where my inspiration comes from. (Click pics for original source.)

Disney wedding inspiration can start from the very beginning, with these Disney inspired engagement rings:

I'm partial to Sleeping Beauty, myself! There are also multiple Disney inspired dresses (many of which are of the poofy variety, but not all!). I think these two are both beautiful!

I absolutely adore this Disneyland inspired save the date, and these super cute invites.

Most Disney wedding cakes are a little much for my tastes, but I think these ones are simply adorbs.

And if you have seen the Disney/Pixar film Up, you know what an AMAZING love story it truly is. Incorporate some cute Up elements into your big day (balloons anyone?) for a fun and playful vibe.

I know Disney weddings are not for everyone, but I couldn't resist. Unfortunately, now I am planning my Disney vow renewal in my head....don't know how the hubs is going to feel about that one....

Dear PCW,

I was recently asked to be a bridesmaid for the first time and I am super excited, but also a little nervous. I know that it can cost A LOT of money to be a bridesmaid, and while I want to be there for my friend, I also can't really afford to break the bank. What are some things I will be expected to pay for as a bridesmaid and about how much will it cost?

Great question, Ashley! I think this is a very common problem for bridesmaids, but it seems to be something that brides and bridesmaids don't want to talk about with each other. Here are some of the basic costs of being a bridesmaid:

                  * The dress. The is the first and foremost, and probably most important, cost. Bridesmaids dresses can be as affordable as $100 or as extravagant as $500+ . If you are on a budget, make sure your bride knows this going in. Hopefully she will be considerate of your situation and will choose a dress accordingly. Also plan on buying new shoes to go with the dress (can't forget the shoes!).
                  * Travel. This only applies if you and your bride don't live in the same area. If you are out of her area, you will have to plan on traveling to her shower (s), bachelorette party, and of course the wedding. This means shelling out a considerable amount of dough for gas/flights and possibly hotel rooms. However, if you and the bride live in the same city (or relatively close) this won't be an issue.
                  *Showers/Bachelorette. This cost varies. Some brides expect their bridesmaids to throw them a shower and some don't (mine didn't). If a bride has a lot of relatives who want to throw her a shower, she will probably be okay if her maids decide not to. Bridesmaids are typically the ones who plan the bachelorette. While they don't have to pay all costs for everyone invited, they should make sure the bride doesn't pay for anything that night.
                  * Gifts. Bridesmaids should buy the couple a wedding present, and at least one shower present. However, if your bride is having more than one shower, you do not have to buy her a gift for each one. One nice gift will suffice.

What the bride should pay for:

                  * Hair and make-up. If your bride is going to ask that you have your hair and make-up professionally done, she should foot the bill. However, if she is fine with you doing your hair and make-up yourself and you decide to have it done, you as the maid are responsible for the cost.
                  * The hotel the night before the wedding. If your bride wants to have a girly sleepover with her maids the night before the wedding, she should foot the bill.
                  * Wedding jewelry. If your bride wants you all to wear matching jewelry for the wedding, she should pay for it and it SHOULD NOT be your bridesmaids gift.

Since the travel costs vary greatly depending on where you and your bride are located, the cost range is pretty large. Plan on spending at least $500 if you don't have to travel far, and as much as $2000 if you do have to fly to see your bride.

Trend I Am Loving: Ribbon Details!

Happy Monday y'all! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I wanted to kick this week off with some super pretty pics of one of my favorite trends of the moment: ribbons! Ribbons are so pretty and girly and add brights pops of color and texture to wedding decor. Plus, it is a big look for a not so big price! These are some of my favorite ways to incorporate ribbon into your decor. (Click pic for original source!)

You can use ribbon to create a stunning ceremony backdrop. You could also make ribbon wands to hand out to your guests--they can wave them as you and your spouse leave the ceremony (think of the great pics)!

Another fave way to use ribbon is to decorate your dessert/cake table with it. It works great on the table itself or behind it.

Ribbons also make great chair decor and photobooth backdrops. You could also use it as a super cute way to display family photos.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Baseball has played an important role in my relationship with the hubs. Our first date was at a Dodger game and since that day (almost exactly three years ago!) we have spent lots of time attending baseball games. One of our goals is to visit all of the baseball stadiums in the country, so for his wedding present, I had a custom painting done of a map of the US with all the stadiums on it. Each time we visit one, we fill in the date on the painting. On our first date, my now husband kept one big secret from me--despite being raised in Los Angeles, he is actually a Giants fan. That means something to those of you who like baseball, and for those of you who don't, well let's just say the Dodgers and the Giants don't really get along. Luckily, we found a way to overcome this flaw of his. Since we are coming up on the anniversary of our first date, I decided to treat us both to a baseball present (you can see a pic at the end of the post) and treat y'all to some baseball wedding inspiration. It doesn't get much more all-American than that! And here's our newest baseball gear! Mine is the properly colored and awesome Dodger blue one on the right and his is the ugly black and orange one on the left. I picked the number 24 since we got married on July 24th.
