Easy Nail Polish DIY {Two Projects}

 happy monday, friends! i have a fun and SUPER simple project for you guys today! you have probably seen all of the nail polish crafts that have been going around pinterest lately... they look like so much fun, so i thought i would give them a try, myself!

supplies:

bobby pins (they are like 75 for $1 at dollar tree!)

a tarnished necklace, pair of earrings, ring, etc...

nail polish

first, we will start with the bobby pin set! these will make an amazing gift when we get done with them! you can make about 25 sets of bobby pins for $1!! hello, inexpensive 

valentine's day / easter / christmas gifts!

it is really as simple as this... just hold your bobby pin in your fingers (or slide them all onto a scrap piece of paper, and paint the tops with nail polish!

they take about a minute to dry. after they are dry, just slip them onto a cute card, and they are ready to go! so adorable, right?! i love these!

next up, my necklace! i have had this necklace for at least 5-6 years, but haven't worn it in at least 3-4 years, because it was tarnished and kind of discolored (which for some reason, you can't really see in the pictures). so i decided to give it new life with some nail polish!

make sure you have paper behind it, so you don't have to worry about the paint that will go through the openings. then, go to town painting the front! i thought about using several colors... i might add that later!

isn't it cute? i am loving the nail polish crafts craze! so fun! it dries fast, comes in so many cute colors, and i am a nail polish hoarder, so this is a good way for me to get some use out of them! :)

happy friday, friends! woo hoo!! i love the weekend!! <3 it's another week of instafriday, and i am linking up with jeanette!

last night, casey posted this post. and now i REALLY want to go. i would love to meet casey, who is the sweetest, most amazing person person ever! and of course, some of my other bloggy friends, who i hope are attending!! :) so i am hoping that everything works out... prayers would be much appreciated! <3

the weather has been SO nice, so i have been taking walks around the neighborhood in the late afternoons. :)

thursday nights are fro-yo night! woo hoo! last night i got brownie batter + coconut, and it was ah-mazing! i don't usually get toppings (i'm weird like that), but last night i did! i got cheesecake bites, caramel sauce, and yogurt chips! it was delish! what are your favorite fro-yo flavors and toppings?? maybe next time i will try it... :)

filling orders... i love rosebud earrings!! they are my favorite! i love how the pinks and peaches are sweet and feminine, but you could wear red or turquoise and go totally 50's retro! they are so fun!

one of my favorite lunches! half a peanut butter sandwich + greek yogurt! soooooo good! :) i tried key lime pie greek yogurt the other day, and ohmygosh! is tastes JUST like key lime pie! i told my mom that i have to make a pie with it!  :)

happy thursday!! i am so, so, so happy because my grandma is coming tomorrow! we are going to spend the day shopping for easter outfits + go out to dinner! easter is a pretty big deal in my family, so we always put much thought into our outfits... we all have to look cute! hehe :) i haven't been on pinterest AT ALL this week! eeek! what is wrong with me?? it's kinda scary! ;) i was pretty much drooling over everything after such a long absence...

Etsy vs. Bigcartel vs. Storenvy {from my experience}

it's the age old question... which site should i choose for my handmade shop?

honestly? they are all great. and i have used them all... so i would know! ;) yeah, i am pretty indecisive with the whole hosting site thing! i just love perks from all of them, so i don't want to miss out!! hehe :)

basically, it just depends on what specific features fit your shop. to help you figure that out, let's weigh the pro's and con's, shall we?

etsy is amazing. everyone knows that. :)

pro's:

 - millions of people visit etsy. bride's, agent's for celebrities, magazine's, and many more important buyers search for the perfect item, and many are willing to pay the BIG bucks for it.

- it offers a community of handmade sellers, like yourself. you can ask questions, chat with other artists in the forums, etc... you can NETWORK, which is VERY important.

- you can have conversations with other etsy members through etsy. this is pretty awesome! no need to give anyone your email address... they can chat with you right on etsy!

- you can leave feedback! this is great for buyers and sellers to get a peek into what kind of seller or buyer they are working with! you will know if you are buying from a great, professional seller, or someone who sells low-quality items, or has bad customer service!

- Etsy offers helpful newsletters...

Etsy News - 
        
        Important Admin announcements, site news and upcoming events.

Etsy Teams - 
        
        Opportunities and news in the Etsy Teams community.

Etsy Success - 
        
        Tips from Etsy and top sellers on how to help your shop bloom.

- there is no limit on the number of items that you can have in your shop

con's:

- there is a TON of competition! search for the product that you sell on etsy... there will probably be 20,000 listings that come up. that is a lot to compete with! when someone sees your item, they may think, "hmmm... i wonder if another seller offers it for cheaper?", and they search for your item at a lower price. that is where the problems arise.

- you can NOT customize your shop, other than the header. that really limits your branding. BIG TIME. all etsy shops look pretty much the same, which makes it harder for yours to stand out.

- those fees add up... FAST! $.20 might not sound like much, but imagine you have 100 items in your shop. that is $20. and if you want your items to stay fresh in the search results, you will have to renew them. there goes another $.20. listing fees aren't the only fees, though. they take 3.5% of EVERY sale. $.20 per listing + 3.5% of every sale = your wallet is empty after you pay those fees! unless you are making a big profit on your products, those fees will hurt! ;)

Big Cartel

big cartel. my first (or umm... second) love!

pro's:

 - big cartel is fully customizable, for anyone who knows a bit of html/css... if you don't, there are plenty of web designers who can help you, or you can purchase a pre-made theme HERE.

- when someone clicks on your shop, all they see is YOU. no other sellers or products to distract from your items! you are the center of attention! :)

- they offer affordable, flat-rate pricing plans, which cost $0, $10, $20, or $30 per month, so there is a plan to fit the budget or needs of any shop owner! click here to see their plans.

con's:

- you have to do the shop promotion 100% yourself. buyers can't search big cartel, so you will have to promote your shop if you want it to be seen. 

- there is no community of sellers (no workshops, no teams, etc...). it is just a hosting site for your shop. some people might not see this as a con, i don't really think it is a huge deal, but it is something to consider.

- you can NOT have conversations with other big cartel members through the site, like etsy. if someone has a question, they hit the contact button,  fill in their info + questions, and this will be sent to your email address.

and then there's storenvy. my latest love. storenvy is kind of the best of both world's!

pro's:

- it offers a community of handmade 
sellers, like etsy. you can ask questions, chat with other member 
in the forums, etc... you can NETWORK, just like etsy.

hit the contact button,  fill in their info + questions, and this will 
be sent to your email address.

phew! that was a long one! ;) i am by no means an expert on this subject, i just thought i would share a bit of my experience with anyone who has been having a hard time deciding on which site is for them! if you have any questions that i haven't covered here, leave them in the comment's and i will answer them as soon as possible!

Cut-off Shorts Tutorial {Revisited}

 some of you may remember when i posted THIS tutorial last year... well, it's almost summer, yet again, and i need some new shorts... so i thought we would re-visit it!

during the winter, i cleaned out my jeans! i had 20+ pairs.... yes, i am addicted to buying jeans

i saved back the pairs that i didn't want, because i *just knew* that i would need them for cut-offs, once it got warmer! :)

one of my favorite things to do is make a summer wardrobe for FREE!! it is actually pretty simple if you have clothes that you no longer want/need. just go through your closet... any long sleeve or jeans can be made into short sleeves and shorts!

we are going to turn ^ those ^ into these...

start by measuring the inseam on a favorite pair of shorts that fit you comfortably... note: the inseam on my shorts measure 3-3.5 inches, but i made my new pairs 4 inches. :)

now, take the pair of jeans that you would like to cut off, and measure 4 inches down the leg...

then cut off the extra fabric, and drag your scissor along the raw edges to distress them! this also stretches the fabric out a bit, so the shorts aren't sticking to your thigh... because that would be awkward! :/

five pairs later, i was done! i saved the other three pairs for a different style of short that i will be sharing a tutorial on, soon! :)

Easy Textured Ruffle Embellished Tee {Tutorial}

this weekend i went through the donation stack in my closet, and decided to revive those items by making my summer wardrobe out of them! i have had this long sleeve tee from forever 21 FOREVER! and hadn't worn it, simply because i didn't like it. so of course, i decided to refashion it!

here's what you need:

a long sleeve tee

pins

scissors

a sewing machine (or you can stitch it by hand)

start by laying your tee down, and cutting off the sleeves. i layed one of my favorite short sleeve tees over it, to help me with the sleeve length.

after that, cut open the sleeves, and remove trim away all of the seams.

then lay your first sleeve on the shirt, and start creating your folds... this is the fun part! just keep folding and pinching until you reach your desired look!

do the same thing with the second sleeve!

then pin all of those folds in place... this is very important!

then stitch randomly back and forth with your machine until all of the folds are in place! i used a contrasting thread to add a little more texture and artsiness to the shirt (or because i didn't have matching thread)... hehe :) you are done! i love the way it turned out!

Open for business!

**The shop is OPEN!! Finally!! I am so excited! There is still so much for me to do, but I didn't want to keep you guys waiting any longer! :)**

Over the past few weeks, I have been a busy bee getting the shop ready! A few things that have changed...

- Pink Lemonade is now hosted on Storenvy, rather than Big Cartel! The new shop URL is www.PinkLemonade.storenvy.com {bookmark it!}

- There aren't very many rosettes at the moment! I am working on re-vamping my rosette items right now, but they will be back soon!

- There are four categories in the shop... "jewelry", "hair pretties", "bags & pouches", and "fun accessories".

- I am still working on stocking the shop- I have SO much more to list over the next few weeks! Keep an eye out for new items, which will be listed daily!

- All items in the shop are now READY TO SHIP! So you won't have to wait the standard 3-5 days for your items to ship! All items will be mailed in 1-2 days!

 happy friday, friends! guess what?? it's another week of instafriday!

 i have been working hard to get everything ready for the shop's grand re-opening on monday! i am sooooo excited! i hope you guys love it!

 editing photos in picnik... ugh! i hate editing! especially 80+ pics! but it is sooooo worth it for pretty pictures! :)

another awesome deal... i l.o.v.e. the initial necklaces that i see on etsy that are JUST like this! the only problem is they are usually $70-$150!! that is just too much... granted, they are probably real gold. but i really don't care about quality! hehe :) i scored this necklace for only $2.97!! 

 and last, but not least... i found these awesome shoes at wal-mart!! are you kidding me?? they are way too cute to be at wal-mart! it was crazy! i have worn them every single day since i got them! :)

Much Ado About You...

it's no secret that i am a big fan of my Much Ado About You calendar. i am. this is my second calendar from them, and i absolutely adore it! i mean really, how could you not? it's the cutest thing EVER!

Here's the deal. My friend Emmy is the sweetest person ever. She makes 
the cutest calendars ever. You have probably heard of her business, Much Ado About You.

Emmy loves her business so much,  but she has really gone back and forth about 
whether or not to keep it going.  Her planners are not cheap to produce,
 and even though she sold over $50K worth of product in 2011, it has been
 difficult to make MAAY profitable.  However, after some serious 
streamlining and fantastic innovations, she finally feels like she is on 
track to make 2012 MAAY’s best year ever!

One
 thing she has decided to do to increase efficiency is to pre-print the 
next line and have only ready-to-ship items in the shop.  Not only will 
this reduce stress, but it will eliminate her three week turnaround that she  battled all year long!  

Unfortunately,
 pre-printing the line will be a big investment, so to help offset her 
significant out-of-pocket costs, she has decided to hold a Pre-Sale, 
offering a discounted price and some other incentives for customers that
 would be willing to order ahead.

• The Pre-Sale will begin on Wednesday, February 29th and run for five days, thru Sunday, March 4th.

 • All Planners will be $5 off for Pre-Sale, plus each customer will receive a surprise free gift and the chance to choose their cover design before the line is introduced to the public.  

• Customers that purchase on Day 1 {2/29} of the Pre-Sale will get to choose their cover design 5 days before the line is introduced to the public.  Customers that purchase on Day 2 {3/1} of the Pre-Sale will get to choose their cover design 4 days before the line is introduced to the public... and so on. 

•  Emmy needs to sell at least 200 Planners during the Pre-Sale. If she does not sell 200, customers will be refunded for their pre-sale purchases, and there will not be another line.

yay!!!! it's friday! i love fridays. i am linking up this week's instafriday over at jeanette's!

breakfast: kashi cinnamon mini wheats. so good!

ready to workout! i like to mix it up, so i don't get bored! i usually choose from a 2 mile run or two 4 minute workout's (found HERE. it will kill you. in a good way, of course.) for my cardio, and a mix of lunges, jumping jacks, sit ups, or crunches for toning.

best thrift store find ever. enough said.

chick-fil-a!! i love it so much. the yogurt parfaits.... i crave them 24/7! and those new grilled nuggets are delicious! dip them in polynesian sauce. you will never want anything else! trust me. ;)

the sky was so pretty last night! we ended up playing some games on the deck while dinner was cooking, since it was such a nice night!

my little brother is addicted to the wii... he loves mario kart! and pretty much any other wii game ever made... :) my favorite is the wii fit plus! have you ever tried it? it has so many fun games!

i have been working hard to fill all of the Gigi's Petals orders that i received last week! lots, and lots of rosette trio necklaces... phew! i am almost done! i wish today was a mail day!! :( i guess i will just mail them tomorrow... who's idea was it to have mail holidays, anyway? that is just crazy. ;)

i have also been hard at work preparing for the big shop grand re-opening! right now i am aiming for march 1st! :) i can't wait!! i have so many new things to work on. i just really wanted to try something new, so i have a lot of unique, new products to share with you guys! here are a few teeny tiny sneak peeks....

i always sketch out the layout that i want for the website before i design it... sometimes you just need to use a pen and paper! :)

i will also be adding a bunch of the felt rose headbands. these roses are so full and beautiful person. i think i might love them more than real roses!! :)
