Getting the Sportswear Trend Right This Summer

With the Olympic Games coming to London this summer, the sporting look is very much in. From the catwalks to the high street, sportswear has hijacked the world of fashion – be it casual or formal wear.

Playing it safe when it comes to sportswear is certainly advised. Tracksuits are a tricky subject in the world of fashion, and it doesn’t take much to slip up and make a vital error by donning the wrong sporting gear. Here are a few top tips for getting sportswear right this season.

Stick with the classic brands

Branding is an important aspect of sportswear. There are a number of brands which have recently re-affirmed their place in the fashion world. Most notable among these is Fred Perry, whose polo shirts, in particular, have been reinvented as style classic.

Stay clear of high street imitations. You will find them to be sub-par when it comes to both quality and style. It’s worth shelling out that extra bit to go for the classic brands which have served sportswear so well for many years.

Distinguish between sports and style

However stylish your gym kit might be this summer, it’s important to match the outfits you wear to the specific activity you are carrying out. And regardless of how trendy sportswear may be this season, there’s no cause to get caught in your sweaty tracksuit anywhere other than your local gym.

Practical trainers should be left for your training regime. Whilst it’s likely that you’ll see an increase in casual sportswear in bars, pubs and other social hangouts, don’t expect to be let in to a local club with a pair of running shoes on your feet.

Don’t forego accessories

Whilst you wouldn’t wear accessories if you were to head to the gym, it’s important that you don’t forget them in your outfits this summer. The distinction between style and utility lies in the accessories, and they are as important a part of a sporting outfit this summer as they would be any other outfit. The inclusion of accessories is the best way to show people that you are on top of your style – not getting back from a ten mile run!

I have to admit that I am a fan of Tyra Banks. I know she's not perfect, but I like all the good things she does like helping other girls with their confidence and most of all, featuring and wearing creations of Filipino designers for her show, the America's Next Top Model. Below is a photo she shared in Facebook just recently, wearing Rajo Laurel's pintados gown.

Sophie Sumner was a runner up of Britain's Next Top Model, Cycle 5. Glad she joined ANTM cos she totally deserved to win. And, did you know that Sophie is friends with Emma Watsons? Cool friends eh?

PFW Holiday 2012: Jian Lasala for Ready to Wear Collection

I thought I'll never get to watch any show of Philippine Fashion Week due to my long summer vacation. Feeling lucky, I scored invites from a couple of designers and a local brand. I was able to catch a total of 3 shows and took almost 500 photos. The whole things was exhausting, thinking of what to wear to the shows, battling the traffic to SMX Convention Center and back, and staying up late but it's all worth it. I got to see new people and realized a few good things about Philippine brands and designers. For the first good thing, let me share to you Jian Lasala's designs for the Ready to Wear Collection.

Jian Lasala's aesthetic is extreme minimalism.

Hence, the plain color and the very simple design.

Less is more in fashion.

Like what Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

The 22 year old designer, freelance model, host and singer once dreamed to take home the title of Miss Philippines-Earth 2012. Now that she owns the title, she'll be competing internationally for Miss Earth 2012 in Indonesia which will be held on October 28, 2012.

SM Ladies' Fashion Holiday 2012 Collection

If there's a place where I always, always shop for clothes.. that's only SM. I mean, I also go to boutiques and branches of both local and international brands, but SM Department Store has more affordable choices for me. Anyway, here are my personal picks from SM Ladies' Fashion Holiday 2012 Collection with top fashion bloggers on the runaway.

Camille Co's sleeveless white top and polka dot ensemble and Patricia Prieto's dress with lace lining are screaming retro.

I have to say these tops Laureen Uy and Lissa Kahayon are wearing reminds me of Marc Jacobs Collection for Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2012.

Pastel colors, mullet skirts, sheer fabrics and florals are still in. Yay, I would like to have those pale orange top and yellow platforms.

Here are some maxi dresses in bold and bright color for the beach. You know, it's always summer here in the Philippines! :)

More must-haves for the holidays is that tailored jacket and electric pleated skirt. Pang Kate Middleton ang peg. Hey, those cobalt blue trousers that Pauline Prieto (Patricia's sister) is wearing look pretty stylish too.

And the scarf dresses in fun colors are here. I love them both. They'll be perfect for year-end parties.

Still stripes, laces and sheers. Don't you adore that finale dress Ria Bolivar is wearing? Bravo SM Ladies'!

Sale Find: Orange Skinny Jeans

I really wanted a pastel yellow pair of jeans. I found one in a nearby mall but it was not available in my size. Disappointed and discouraged, I grabbed the same design in an orange color. Ugh, I know I am sometimes impatient like that. Good thing it made a good fit and I paid it with an affordable price. The collection is a mix of lovely, classic, Mediterranean, tropical, romantic and premium designs. I already have 3 pairs of iPanema flip-flops in my closet, but I guess I'm adding another pair soon!

In college, I remember our Natural Science teacher telling the fairest girls in our class to retouch with some powder and lipstick before the class starts because she noticed them wearing no makeup. I was already 19 that time but still questioning myself why girls should use makeup at the back of my mind. Honestly, it didn't make a lot of sense to me as a late bloomer. At this point of my life where I'm already turning 32, I, of course, completely understand why girls cover their faces with makeup. By the use of some techniques and appropriate colors, one pretty woman can become prettier. Too bad that it can also do the opposite if not done properly. Here are some Hollywood celebs to testify. Mark Zuckerberg Marries Priscilla Chan

Sorry ladies, no more hope to go out on a date with one of the world's youngest billionaires, Mark Zuckerberg, because the guy is now married. The founder and CEO of Facebook just tied the knot with his long time Chinese-American girlfriend Priscilla Chan. The two met at Harvard University and were said to be together for over nine years. Wow, that's long enough so it's about time!

Mark and Priscilla have been very private with their relationship that finding photos of them together in the world wide web wasn't easy. Finally, May 19, 2012 marked the big day when both Mark Zuckerberg (28) and Priscilla Chan (27) changed their Facebook status into "married". Mark shared this photo in his Facebook wall to which almost 500, 000 people already clicked liked and almost 500 people commented.
Priscilla graduated with a degree in pediatrics at the University of California (San Francisco) on Monday. That was the same day that Mark turned 28, so nobody suspected that it was going to be a marriage ceremony when guests fewer than 100 gathered at his backyard in Palo Alto, California on Saturday!

My First Pink Lipstick

This is my first time to buy a pink lipstick to play with. I used to think that pink lipstick aren't good for me because of my skin complexion. Well, the world evolved and they developed pink lippies for every skin color. Let's check this one if it suits my skintone.

Ever Bilena Extreme lipstick. Got this from the grocery for only P150.

Beautiful pink color. I love how it looks almost perfect except for that line.

Pink Goddess. That's the name of the shade.

The iPanema Urban Jungle Fashion Show

Oh my gosh! I can't believe I missed this show. I was in my home province having my longest vacation for this year yet when it actually happened. The iPanema Urban Jungle fashion show was held at Boni High Street last 4th of May.

This jungle-inspired stage gave me a slight imagination of Brazil.

And they danced and performed some acrobatic moves..
This performer is so lovely in her costume.. very comfy with her flip-flops too.

Battle of the Covers for May 2012 Magazine Issues

Here we go again. It's the first week of the month so new issues of popular magazines are out. Let's check the first four from Summit Media and Mega Publishing Group.

I don't know about you but I thought of Vice Ganda the first time I glanced at this Preview cover of Kris Aquino for May 2012 issue. I think her updo made her look like the famous standup comedian and Showtime judge. Mother Becks Divine Lee for last month's cover is way better.

Yellow dress on a yellow magazine layout. Did they really do that on purpose? I like the color of the dress but the background color is the same. This is just.. so yellow. I love Anne Curtis' makeup tho.

Maja Salvador for MEGA May issue. Love the smoky eyes but not the dark lips. Heyy.. what's that on her neck? Is that a Photoshop failure? :(

I saw her a couple of weekends ago at Robinson's Galleria. I realized, she isn't that pretty in person. IMO lang huh!

Julia Montes for Meg Magazine. Yay, she's looking like a doll. Taray ng eyebrows! Love it!!

Hello ladies! How's your summer vacation? Been very busy these last few days, receiving guests, running errands and stuff then tomorrow is our trip to the province. Before I leave, of course I need to do an update and scheduled posts. A few days back, I did some shopping with my visiting aunt and cousins and here are my loots.

Rebonding at Pia Jane Salon and Spa

It's over a year since my last hair rebond. I finally decided to treat myself with straight hair but didn't know which salon to go. Victor Ortega is now a couple of rides away from my place. Just thinking of the wait for my turn in that heavily packed salon and traveling back and forth made me think of trying this newly opened salon near my house. Actually. I can see a lot of hair parlors around Shaw Boulevard that are inviting and promising. So far, this one is also inviting.. and promising.. and very affordable too!

My new hair after 4 hours of rebonding at Pia Jane Salon and Spa. I took a package worth P1500 for this. The package included hair rebond, hair cellophane and hair treatment with Semi di Lino.

The Launching of Style Icons x I Love Koi

I was at the Complex Lifestyle Store in Eastwood Mall in Libis, Quezon City to attend Keds x Style Icons last Friday. It was an intimate event attended by lifestyle and fashion bloggers, a few people from media and selected guests. Style icons Patricia Prieto, Tricia Gosingtian and Plump Pinay (Dawn & Stacy) were there to talk about the swimwear they designed themselves.

Complex Lifestyle Store carries labels like Sperry Top-Sider, Ralph Lauren, Havaianas, etc.

Keds shoes and I Love Koi swimwear are also available at Complex.

Being the first blogger to register gave me enough time to take photos and even chat with designer/ blogger/ style icon/ model Patricia Prieto. If you follow my blog, you know I already met her HERE and HERE. I'm a fan :)

Gathering around.. the program was about to start.

Entered Miss Jan Nicole Solo who greeted us all with words of welcome and a genuine smile.

Like I said, it was an intimate event so the store had enough room for everyone.

Miss Karen Ong followed with her presentation of Keds' history and achievements.

Then it was time to see the newest designs for I Love Koi swimwear..

Tricia Gosingtian talked about what inspired her in creating a high-waisted two piece swimsuit called Lolita and a maillot called Slumberdoll. Both swimsuits are available in different colors and fun vintage prints.

Plump Pinay's swimsuits are called Plumpinup, a high-waisted bikini, and Viderlina, a maillot with asymmetrical design. They are available from XS to XXXL sizes.

Patricia Prieto's designs are called Paradigma and Normandie. The first is a two-piece swimsuit named after her blog, while the latter is a beautiful cutout maillot, the one she's holding in the photo.

After the presentation of the designs, we were treated into a light snack of cupcakes and iced tea and juices from Happy Lemon. Guests had a chance to have a photo op with the designers and utilize the photo booth where one can get instant souvenir photos. Lastly, a raffle was made where I was able to win a pair of Havainas. Yey, so lucky!

Big cheers for Rajo Laurel! Tyra Banks posted this photo of her wearing a graphic print dress by the famous Filipino designer at her Facebook page yesterday. First it was Michael Cinco who dressed the girls of American's Next Top Model shown on episode 8 of Cycle 16. Next, Oliver Tolentino dressed 7 out of 13 girls of ANTM All Stars. Now, it is Rajo Laurel's dazzling moment 'cause it is Tyra Banks herself wearing a Filipino creation. Bongga talaga!!!

Rajo Laurel wrote on his blog and I quote, "I just saw TYRA BANKS in my GOWN! I am shaking like a leaf as I type this as this feels like a dream! It’s almost surreal! I mean, I just watch the woman on TV and now SHE IS WEARING MY WORK! I am so grateful to my cousin Mike Carandang for pushing me and urging me and making all this happen! I am so very very very very grateful!"

He also wrote, "I think she wore this to one of the final episodes of the latestAmerica’s Next Top Model! The one where the British girls invade America! I just want to share this with all of you as this is so AMAZING! I am so happy for my team as we really work hard to make Philippine Fashion world class! THANK YOU TYRA!!!"
