so i know i've been MIA a little during 2011, but there has been so much happen since my last post that i needed a little time off. here's a little run down...

1. i needed a chance to get back into stay at home mom mode...

after trying (and failing) at going back to work, i needed to take a second and regroup my priorities and responsibilities around the house and trust that i've made the right decision to stay home with my kiddos. we spent a fantastic (yet super hot) summer just being a family and it was awesome!

2. we celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary...

my husband and i have been together for almost 15 years and since july was our 10 year wedding anniversary, we took a weekend and celebrated "just the two of us". it was a much needed getaway! ;)

3. my son/baby started kindergarten... *tear*

my second (and last) child, my son, started kindergarten this year and it has been so much fun watching him grow up but it's also a little bittersweet since his milestone list is being marked off a little faster that i was prepared for.

4. i went to switzerland...

it was so last minute, so much that i paid for the expedited passport renewal so i would have it back in time to go, but my husband's job sent him to switzerland for training for 3 weeks and i got to go too! i met him there for the last 10 days of his trip and had a blast! it was my first trip to europe and it was so amazing.

5. i turned 30...

i don't know how much explanation this needs, but this is something i'm still not sure how i feel about. there are those that take birthdays like any other day and never feel any different, and there are those that see that zero at the end of their age and instantly feel old. i don't feel really old, but i do feel a little different every time i have to say that i'm thirty and no longer in my twenties. it's a little weird...

6. my husband ended up in ICU for his heart...

this is still a little touchy for me since it only happened a few weeks ago, but long story short, my husband went to the hospital after we realized his heart was beating "off rhythm" and he was feeling some pressure in his chest. after a long night in the ER and eventually ending up in ICU, the doctors decided he needed to see a cardiologist for an "a-fib".

which brings me to my last item...

8. we have made some major lifestyle changes...

after our trip to switzerland, where all the food is fresh; and the hubs needing to change his diet and lifestyle because of his heart, we are eating and living quite differently than before. while i haven't completely cut out all fast food (ballet and soccer nights make that really hard) i have been buying lots more organic foods (especially meats and produce) and looking at the nutritional facts much more closely.

i know that this is alot to take in since i have kinda left you guys hanging, but i have full intentions on getting back to work with this blog. i have missed it and you guys so much!

(oh and don't worry, i'll give more details on the above list that is my life... i just need a second to catch up...lol)

worst/best week ever...

so today is friday. and all i can think is "thank goodness!" this week has been a crazy yet awesome week to say the least. here's the rundown of how it played out...

MONDAY
after my daughter was sick ALL last week with strep throat, my son was sick on monday. calling in to work resulted in a "mutual separation" of sorts, so now (long story short) i am a stay at home mom again. (blessing in disguise, believe me...) but thankfully, T just had a small cold, which was easily fixed. what was even worse, though, was my hubs left on monday to go out of town on business until FRIDAY... ugh... no "feel better" hug for me...

TUESDAY
after wallowing in my own self pity the entire day before, i woke up to having one of my designs being featured on another blog. (score #1) then i met up with one of my new favorite design clients for coffee and to deliver her new business cards. we discussed so much future work for and with her, that i completely forgot how inept i had felt the previous day. (score #2) then after a long and very successful day of retail therapy(definitely score #3) i received a phone call informing me that i had won a two night stay at the Artmore Hotel in atlanta for the weekend of Valentine's day by submitting an essay a few weeks earlier that i had COMPLETELY forgotten about! (holy crap! score #4!)

WEDNESDAY
this day was a little more quiet than tuesday, but equally just as special. i met my mom and my nanny to resume (now that i'm not working anymore) our weekly lunch dates at nanny's favorite local restaurant, "Mansfields of Zebulon." they are actually an event and catering business, but serve lunch only on wednesdays, so we love to take advantage. of course the food was amazing and the company was even better. later that day, my mom took my kids to church with her and i dropped by my awesome friend Heather's house to take (a much overdue) baby shower gift (since the baby is due like NOW) and to have dinner with her and some of her other girl friends. never underestimate the power of a girl's night out, even if it is only for an hour or so... i definitely felt better by the time i left.

THURSDAY
thursday was a bit awkward. I woke up really early and couldn't go back to sleep, so by the time the kiddos were on the bus headed to school, i was exhausted. (side note: i don't sleep well at ALL when the hubs isn't here. *tear*) but, i had a hair appointment before lunch, so no back to bed for me... i dressed and headed out for the day and just like most other women, with the major change in my life this week, i needed a major change in my hair style. so i decided it was time for bangs. so "BAM" now i have bangs. and love them, ALOT. ;) i was in an awesome mood after the salon, so it was the perfect time to swing by my "old job" and pick up my things. with as small as this town is (and me being a habitual "people pleaser") i did not go in with a frown. i walked in, quickly gathered my things, said good bye to everyone that i would actually miss, and left. i was so proud of myself for being such a "big girl". ;) i wasn't ready to head home yet, so i went by my friend/neighbor's house to spend some time with her since we had kinda drifted apart while i was working. definitely a good visit.

which brings us to...

FRIDAY
i have done absolutely NOTHING today...lol. i got the kids off to school and went straight back to bed. i'm actually writing this post while STILL in my pajamas. and guess what... i don't PLAN to do anything today. my husband will be on his way home soon, and i don't even care about the madness that is my house. i am just so excited that he will be here soon. so i can finally get my "feel better" hug and so i can actually sleep tonight...lol. (although, i'm thinking i might go get a cupcake...)

so as random as my week has been, this weekend is going to be just as much. between my daughter's classmate's birthday party, hubby's band practice and an annual event (read: stuffy/snobby) that my husband and i have to attend, life goes on for me and my newly changed "lifestyle".

funny how things all work themselves out for the best. i would've missed so much this week had i still been "working"...

I love it when a uber awesome fashion designer takes on the challenge of making a collection for an affordable department store. Especially when I LOVE the designer...

I was recently perusing walmart.com (i know... as if i don't go to the actual store enough) when i came across the Norma Kamali collection. Let me start by saying that as eccentric as I like my shoes and statement pieces, there is something to be said for simplicity in basics. First, I fell in love with the designs and then I noticed the prices... Holy crap! I can actually afford this stuff! (and the hubs will never even notice the bill!) ;)

This weekend, I've been breaking out my boots for this winter when I realized that EVERY SINGLE PAIR has heels! I don't know why, but for some reason, I've never found a pair that I love that was flat. It has never bothered me until now, when I actually need flat boots...lol. So, do I worry? No way! After dinner, Tobey was drooling all over a sucker from his halloween candy (we strictly enforce the one piece AFTER dinner rule) while I was wiping off the kitchen counters. When I looked up at him for a second, he had this excited look on his face and said "Mommy?" I smiled and replied "Yes, sir?" He looked directly at me and said, "I want to skate on the ice." (I could tell he was very proud of himself that he had come up with this idea all by himself.) I kinda laughed and told him that ice skating was very hard. I then remembered out loud that Cisco and I had gone ice skating once but that he had to help me around the ice the whole time because I was really bad at it. (no, i mean it...REALLY bad.) I laughed a little and went on to say that "Daddy will surely have to go with us, honey, just in case we need a hand."

Tobey sat there for a few minutes while I could tell he was trying to figure something out...

He then looked up, (very serious, I might add) and said " Mommy, I'm not good at ice skating either. I will fall down and hurt my knees. But I'm gonna ask Daddy to teach me how to ice skate really good so that when I grow up, I can hold your hand and help you ice skate too."

After I hugged him and told him "Thank, you, sweetheart!" (and quickly wiped the tear from my eye), I made sure Daddy wasn't around and sneaked my sweet baby another piece of candy...

with the new budget plan we have implemented for our family this year, i can't justify spending a ton of money on costumes for halloween. tobey wanted to be iron man, and luckily he got that costume for his birthday in august! so one down, one to go... i already had a witch hat that ema had been dying to get her hands on, so since this year she is "old enough" to take care of it, i decided that i would let her be a witch. but what else to wear? i do sew, but i have recently accepted a full-time position, so putting together an intricate black dress wasn't happening. i opted for a simple tutu with a black long sleeve shirt (that she already owned) and some purple and black stripe tights that i got at walmart for $3. when i went to hobby lobby to get the tulle (95 YARDS!!!), i also scored a really great wooden broom for less than $4! (love their sales!!!) i set aside a few hours last night and tonight and voila! all done...

i wasn't initially going to add the corset lacing on the shirt, but i had a roll of green ribbon that matched perfectly, so, why not? ;) you can't see it but the waist on the skirt is lined with black sequin elastic so when she tucks her shirt in, it adds that extra little bit of bling... i love how it all turned out, BUT i do NOT suggest using glitter tulle for a tutu. my kitchen is COMPLETELY COVERED in gold glitter! I'm not even sure how I'm going to clean it all up... ;)

for those of you who don't know already and would love to create a tutu for you little girl, HERE is a really great video tutorial that shows you the simplest way to do it. (keep in mind though that my tulle strips for a longer tutu were 44 inches long. all you have to do is just measure what length you want and double it...)

Okay, so it's not quite Halloween yet, but I have already been planning our Christmas card for a few weeks now. And guess, what!? So should you! Especially if you want a personalized photo card. If you own a great camera and can get a great photo for your cards, that's awesome, but I had to book a photographer. ;)

Now back to the cards... Once I get the disk from our shoot, I want to use these photos for a really awesome Christmas card to send to all our friends and family. I've searched all over for the best place to have these printed, and I think I've found it...

Shutterfly.com has a GREAT selection of photo cards to make my card stand out among the rest. A few of my favorites are:

I love the simplicity of these designs. The main focus is on your photo but with a little flair to include the holiday spirit.

As a graphic designer, I appreciate these designs for their uniqueness and beauty. They are perfect to add that couture look or even the fun modern look that displays your family's personality.

These are probably my favorite... I always have a problem picking ONE photo to include, so these collage cards are the perfect option. They also come in so many different varieties from simple to fun.

And I can't forget the customized return labels to match my cards! These come in a ton of options as well!

This Time, It's All About Me...

It has taken me a while to realize how much I miss my blog.

(let's go back a little over a year ago...)

Pink & Posh was on the verge of greatness. Well, okay, if you consider after only a few months, having over 1000 subscribers, a Google page rank of 4 going on 5 and up to 3 contests a week, greatness. And all this on a .blogspot account. With NO custom domain. I was beyond excited.

That is until I decided to "expand my horizons" and purchase a domain name and wordpress hosting. I expected that what little advertising money I received would cover these expenses, and sure, it did. But what I didn't expect was to lose myself in the process. What began as a simple blog where I could document my life as a self-proclaimed fashionista, mommy of two, became a metropolis for moms looking for that "next great contest". Now, don't get me wrong, I love free stuff as much as the next girl, but when I write a post bearing my soul about my motherhood experiences and get little to NO comments, something didn't feel right. This wasn't what I signed up for. I wanted my readers to know ME, not my "chance to get free deoderant". How can I know that you appreciate my opinions when you don't even know who I am? Still, I worked very hard and VERY long hours (away from my family, no less) hunting down the next awesome contest and current fashion advice to accommodate the wordpress readers for almost a year when I gave up. As soon as my domain name came up for renewal, I ran for the door.

I thought I was done with blogging forever. Being burnt out was my main apprehension. That is until I chanced upon my old blog here on Blogger. It brought back the memories of when I WASN'T trying to impress anyone with my contests and when I actually ENJOYED writing.

So that is what I bring to you now.

we've met the toys...

My family recently had the chance to attend (my very first!) Disney on Ice show... Toy Story 3. I'm a huge Disney fan, so when I got the tickets for opening night, RINKSIDE, and knew that we had a chance to meet the characters before the show, I was probably more excited about it than my kids! Produced by Feld Entertainment, Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar Toy Story 3 was definitely as awesome as I expected it to be. My kids didn't take their eyes off the show the entire time (and that includes during intermission when they were mesmerized by the super cool Zamboni...lol).

I could rant about this experience turning this into a HUGE post, but I would rather just show you the pictures (cause aren't they worth more than words?...or something like that...lol)

I told you a little while ago that I had some super secret news... Well, since I am no good at keeping a secret for very long, I am DYING to tell you what it is!

I have had so much fun and support with Pink & Posh that I have decided to go BIG or go home...

...and thanks to you, the loyal and fabulously posh readers and supporters, Pink & Posh is expanding! There is a new look, new site, new contributors, new content and DEFINITELY new giveaways!

With the official launch scheduled for July 1, 2009, http://www.pinkandposh.net/ is my new address for providing you with the most PINK and most POSH items and news for you, your family and your home. It is a magazine style site still in test mode, so I will continue to post here on blogger throughout the month of June. I wanted you to be aware of the change ahead of time so you could be sure to keep it on your daily web stops. To keep up with all the new features of Pink & Posh, I have convinced two of my most posh blogger friends to take this plunge with me...

Nicole Ibarrondo is no spring chicken when it comes to blogging. She is known for the former "There Once Was A Girl" and is currently the senior editor of Mom Fuse, another popular mom site. She is coming on as an editor for Pink & Posh, and with her experience and spunky personality, I am sure you will love her as much as I do!
