The exchange began after a fan messaged Adams-Wheatley on Instagram to say they had attended Glaser’s show in Ridgefield, Washington, and felt she should know she was being referenced in the set. The fan wrote: “Were you aware you are a topic in Nikki Glaser’s current set? I was at her show last Saturday in Ridgefield WA. I didn’t like the jokes. Love your content. Thought you should be aware.”

After Adams-Wheatley asked what had been said, the fan described a joke they said included comments about her body and transitioning, sharing: “She said that [you] already hav[e] a hard life with no limbs but still decided to transition… then something about you had to, since you rubbed your p*nis off with the way you drag yourself across the room,” adding that they had booed during the performance.

Adams-Wheatley then posted this conversation to her Instagram story, tagging Glaser and asking: “Why are you making comments about what is or is not in my pants?”

Glaser responds: “It’s a dumb joke”

In messages later shared by Adams-Wheatley, Glaser apologised and said she should have reached out before including her in the routine.

“Hey girl. I’m so sorry this got back to you like this. I should have reached out to you. I never meant to hurt your feelings at all. This is not an accurate portrayal of the joke, but I’m sure it’s still not fun to hear you’re in my act,” Glaser wrote.

Glaser also addressed the trans-related framing, writing: “I HATE anti trans jokes of all kinds and to think I may have added to that rhetoric is disgusting to me.”

She added: “It’s a dumb joke and I will lose it immediately. I love you and I’m so sorry!”

Glaser then ended her message by saying she would remove the joke from her set moving forward.

Mum says she was ‘petrified’

In the comments, Fraser’s mother, Kate, shared a message about how she felt when he first told her he was bisexual.

“As your mum, I’m so proud of you watching this Freddie… when you told me I was petrified… petrified that people might be mean to you, like when you was at school, and the thought of that broke my heart,” she wrote, adding: “I couldn’t have been more wrong,”

Kate continued: “Your friends have showed me that times have changed… and seeing you this happy honestly makes me the happiest mum on the planet.”

Fraser came out publicly in August when he went public with boyfriend Bailey Ramsden, and earlier this month he spoke about his relationship and coming-out journey, including how he met Ramsden.

JK Rowling’s camp denies transphobia

Earlier in September, Rowling’s agent Neil Blair denied claims the author supported “legal actions aimed at harming transgender people or efforts to limit trans rights”.

Trans filmmaker Lilly Wachowski claimed in a Variety interview that Rowling “is funding trans genocide”, adding: “The money that goes into you enjoying these products, a portion of that money goes to JK Rowling and that money goes into her funding anti-trans legislation all over the world.” Wachowski also described her as a “literal Nazi”.

Blair told Entertainment Weekly: “Freedom of speech is a principle we should all cherish. What matters is that JK Rowling’s views, as with anyone else’s, are represented accurately, fairly and respectfully and that individual opinion does not detract from those views.”

The statement went on: “People are free to disagree with her views but seriously defamatory allegations of this nature, even outrageously invoking the Nazis and the genocide that they committed, should never be presented as fact when they are clearly fabricated and not based on any evidence.”

Similarly, an FAQ on Rowling’s website denies she is transphobic, citing an essay she wrote in June 2020. The FAQ reads: “JK Rowling clearly states trans people need and deserve protection. She wants trans women to be safe but not to the detriment of natal girls and women’s safety and for their rights to single sex spaces to remain protected.”

As of yet, Rowling does not appear to have responded to John Green’s words.

The clip was shared on 23 September, barely two weeks after Vance made similar remarks at the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention on 10 September in Dallas, Texas. During that speech, he said: “I never want to see that guy’s web browser history.”

Talarico has also been targeted by Republicans over his support for drag in recent weeks, including after he named his favourite drag queen as Alyssa Edwards.

Talarico’s faith-based defence of trans kids

Talarico has framed his support for LGBTQ+ people in religious terms. In April 2021, while opposing a Texas bill to ban trans students from school sports, he said: “Trans children are God’s children, made in God’s own image,” adding: “There’s nothing wrong with them. Nothing at all. They are perfect, they are beautiful, and they are sacred. Bullying children is immoral. It’s a sin. A special kind of sin.”

Talarico is a Texas Democratic state legislator and US Senate candidate known for a public-facing, faith-inflected progressive message and social media-forward political communication. He has reportedly been leading Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in recent polls.

The demonstration, put together by Jewish Voice for Peace, a Jewish organisation supporting Palestine, took place near the United Nations ahead of Netanyahu’s address to the General Assembly. Protesters staged a sit-in on First Avenue, calling for an end to US military support for Israel and an end to the war in Gaza.

Reports indicated protesters were taken into custody for blocking traffic and roadways along First Avenue near 39th Street, close to UN headquarters.

Video and photographs from the demonstration showed Sarandon and Einbinder being taken away by police, with officers restraining their hands and escorting them towards an NYPD bus. Sarandon was wearing a white shirt reading “Fund people not bombs”, while protesters held signs reading “Stop arming Israel” and “End the genocide.”

Other public figures detained included author and activist Glennon Doyle, former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning and Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, according to Jewish Voice for Peace. The organisation said several other elected officials and public figures also participated in the demonstration.

Actors Cynthia Nixon and Elliot Page, playwright Tony Kushner, photographer Nan Goldin, poet Eileen Myles and musicians Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker were among those reported to have attended. Jewish Voice for Peace said the demonstration brought together around 400 Jewish, Palestinian, Iranian and Lebanese New Yorkers, alongside elected officials and other activists.

What police said

The NYPD said 103 people were taken into custody after officers warned demonstrators to clear the roadway. Jewish Voice for Peace put the number at 104. The protesters were detained after continuing to block the intersection.

A NYPD spokesperson said officers responded to reports of an “unscheduled demonstration” where people were blocking an intersection. “Members of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau issued … warnings, advising participants that they should leave,” the spokesperson said. “They continued to block the intersection. Multiple individuals who didn’t comply were taken into custody,” she added.

The protest took place as Netanyahu prepared to address the UN General Assembly, where his speech prompted a significant walkout by diplomats and other delegates. Netanyahu defended Israel’s military campaign and rejected allegations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, describing such accusations as false. Israel has consistently maintained that its military campaign is conducted in self-defence and in accordance with international law.

The UN’s Commission of Inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Israel rejected the commission’s findings. The International Criminal Court has also issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity; Netanyahu has rejected the allegations and called the warrant antisemitic.

Queer stars’ stances

Einbinder, who was raised in a Reform Jewish household, has been a strong supporter of Palestinian rights. After being detained, she addressed the protest on Instagram, saying she hoped images of her arrest would draw attention away from the celebrities involved and towards what she described as the devastating war in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

“Let us not mistake the spectacle for the story,” Einbinder wrote. “Genocide is the headline, and it is time for it to end.”

Sarandon, 79, has said her outspoken views have affected her career, telling journalists at the Venice film festival: “I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still. But that’s the power structure,” adding: “But I found my family, I found my people, and I’m OK.”

Hearon later posted on Instagram that he had been released and thanked the organisers.

In its published statement, the ECU said: “The relevant BBC Editorial Guidelines do not require programmes to avoid giving offence but do require that any offence should be editorially justified.”

It added: “In the ECU’s judgement, while the inclusion of the C-word in the programme derived editorial justification from David Beckham’s alleged use of it and the satirical reflections this prompted, there was no such justification for a comment which presented Victoria Beckham as equivalent to a particularly offensive word.”

Ryan’s remark was made while the panel discussed an email allegedly sent by David Beckham. The joke followed reference to a 2013 private email in which he allegedly used the word about the UK honours committee after he was not given a knighthood.

Campaign spokesperson Harry Child said Peltola’s behaviour should be understood in the context of bereavement in 2023, when her husband and mother died.

“At the time of their passing, Mary was parenting kids through their own grief, serving full-time in the US House of Representatives thousands of miles from home, and running a competitive re-election campaign all while shouldering the enormous burden of grief,” Child said in a statement as per The Guardian.

Child added: “Like any person who has gone through multiple personal tragedies in the span of a few months, Mary sometimes struggled to deal with her grief. But she treats her staff with respect and care, and she maintains close positive relationships with her staff spanning her nearly 30 years in public service.”

Race stakes and political reaction

Peltola is set to face Republican senator Dan Sullivan in the midterm elections on 3 November. Democrats need to win a net gain of at least four Senate seats to secure a majority.

Sullivan described the behaviour reported by the Times as “sad” and “disturbing”.

Patriots’ Day Freedom Fest was billed as a conservative festival, with Deters previously calling it “the best MAGA event”.

What is going on?

The comments come as Dolly’s longtime manager Danny Nozell, who managed her for more than 20 years, took out a temporary restraining order against her nephew Bryan Seaver, who had been her head of security until he was fired following her death.

In legal documents reviewed by TMZ, Nozell claimed Seaver demanded money and began “invoking his self-proclaimed military-contractor experience, access to weapons, and capacity for violence”.

Court documents allege Seaver said he would “ruin” his aunt’s brand partnerships unless he was paid.

Nozell reportedly requested that Seaver remain at least 1,000 feet from Parton’s office and not contact Parton’s businesses or affiliates.

Seaver, responding to the restraining order request, told the online publication: “I am a career soldier and military contractor and do conduct arms deals for foreign governments. I am a security professional and I am a killer.”

Who is Bryan Seaver?

Bryan Seaver is Dolly Parton’s nephew, son of her younger sister Cassie, and had been her head of security.

He was the person who announced Parton’s death on 25 August in a video shared on her Instagram page.

Seaver said his aunt had asked him to be the one to announce her death “years ago”. He said in the announcement: “It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.”

According to TMZ, in messages in the court documents, Seaver said: “I’m now the face of the biggest social media post in human history.”

But with multiple weddings and plenty of will-they-won’t-they romance, some have been left wondering if Toy Story 5 actually has an LGBTQ+ storyline.

Disney, in more recent years, has included some queer relationships, like in Zootopia 2, but for Toy Story 5, it could be a bit more open to interpretation.

Of course, spoilers for the movie follow. Well, kind of, as it’s teased in the poster for the movie.

Does Toy Story 5 have an LGBTQ+ plot?

One of the opening scenes, when viewers return to the toys we all know and love, sees a wedding between Forky and Karen Beverly.

Karen was introduced in the Toy Story 4 post-credits scene, and is a DIY toy made from a plastic knife. She has long, yellow yarn for hair, a purple flower decoration and a green dress with sequins on it.

Forky, similarly made from a plastic fork, is seen to be completely lovestruck by Bonnie’s new toy, and it seems in the time between Toy Story 4 and Toy Story 5, their romance has blossomed.

Erik Hall from The Telegraph has argued that, because they are married as “husband and knife”, rather than husband and wife, that Karen Beverly is “gender neutral”, and therefore the wedding is LGBTQ+.

The character, who most agree is designed to look female, is voiced by actress Melissa Villaseñor, of Saturday Night Live fame. She also has two names which are more feminine leaning.

Many fans have since disagreed with the read that Forky and Karen are a queer couple, saying they “did not see an LGBTQ+ wedding”.

Now, I saw the movie on when it was in cinemas as a proud, self-confessed “Disney Adult”, who is also very gay, and I did not take it as an LGBTQ+ wedding, either.

Of course, you could argue that toys are neither male nor female, and children will play with and give them the identities they choose. And if you, the viewer, wants to see it as an LGBTQ+ wedding, then absolutely go for it.

But, unfortunately or not, there is no obvious suggestion that Karen Beverly is not a female knife.

Instead, at least to me, “husband and knife” was just a fun (yet rather obvious) pun from the writers.

Murphy said he had already started sounding out familiar faces from the Fox series. “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” he said.

He also stressed it is still early days. Murphy said “nobody’s read it”, adding that he wanted to write “a couple” of scripts to see what people think, particularly the cast.

The project is very much still in the planning stages, and it has not been picked up by a network. Though it sounds like Murphy is keen to bring the show back, at least.

Murphy’s comments follow renewed chatter about revisiting Glee, which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015 and followed the glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School.

Lea Michele says she would return

The latest update also comes after Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry across all six seasons, said she would be happy to return.

Murphy shared the details with The Hollywood Reporter in New York City ahead of the AHS: 13 premiere.

The television producer, also behind Glee, said the idea would have seen the Scream Queens universe appear in the American Horror Story world for the first time.

“It was funny because at one point I was going to have the Scream Queens come on to this season, but Ariana was touring and I couldn’t make it work,” he said. “But she was like, ‘I still want to do it! I just can’t be on tour.’ So I was like, ‘All right, let me think of it.’”

Grande played Chanel #2 on Scream Queens, the Fox horror-comedy co-created by Murphy. Her character was killed off in a seriously camp murder in the first season, before the series was cancelled after season two.

Why the crossover didn’t happen

Murphy said the tour clash was not a surprise, adding that Grande had warned him in advance it would be difficult to schedule. He said the weekend they needed to shoot her scenes, she was touring, and he decided to “bump it down the road”, adding: “I haven’t given up. I love her.”

In August, Murphy had also spoken about Grande stepping away from American Horror Story season 13 because of scheduling conflicts around her tour and album release, saying fans had not seen the last of her in his horror universe.

Murphy still wants to revisit Scream Queens

Asked if he was thinking about reviving Scream Queens, Murphy said: “Yes, so funny, Emma [Roberts] and I were talking about that yesterday. You know, they want me to do it. I don’t know.”

He added: “Emma really wants to do it. I know Billie [Lourd] wants to do it. Lea [Michele] wants to do it. Ariana wants to do it and Glen [Powell], my favourite of all time.”

American Horror Story season 13 premieres 24 September on FX, and will be available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ and is described as an “all-star” season with returning franchise favourites including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Angela Bassett.

Lourd, who played Chanel #3 on Scream Queens, also backed the idea, saying: “H*** yeah! Scream Queens is everything,” adding: “Chanel #3 is everything to me.”

Hancock is also remembered for helping organise South Carolina’s first Pride march. In 1990, she helped lead more than 2,000 people down Main Street to the State House in Columbia, and she was considered “the Mother of SC Pride”.

Building South Carolina’s early support networks

Hancock’s activism began with her family. After her son, Greg, came out to her in 1980, she founded the Columbia chapter of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in 1982.

In 1985, she also cofounded Palmetto AIDS Life Support Services (PALSS) during the height of the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s.

The Harriet Hancock Center’s work continues

The Harriet Hancock Center is described as the first LGBT+ resource centre in South Carolina and the only LGBTQ+ community centre in the state to serve all ages.

PFLAG is a long-running US organisation supporting LGBTQ+ people and their families, with local chapters that often provide peer support and advocacy. The AIDS crisis of the 1980s also spurred community-led support services and mutual aid amid widespread stigma and government inaction.

The centre is also directing supporters to a donation page to help fund its ongoing work.

On Tuesday night, lovebirds Rhianna Collins and Omar El Mayer butted heads suggested their romance may have been a bit premature. A message from outside also claimed Lynx has a secret girlfriend, much to Chelsey’s surprise. Remember, these people have known each other for less than two weeks…

Anyway, in Wednesday night’s episode, Lynx Noumey will be seen in a tense conversation with his love-interest Chelsey Ammari, who believes he is acting fake.

Chelsey is chatting with Yasmin and Charlotte Nott in the garden, saying he has “changed so much” over the past day.

“Like our ‘friendship group’ or whatever, he’s not spent any time with us,” she says, referring to her, Lynx, Rhianna and Omar.

She goes on: “I’m not being rude, because I think he wants to be perceived to the public like, ‘I’m not part of this friendship group, I talk to everyone, I’m popular, blah blah blah.’

“No. Be true to yourself.”

Lynx walks out to the garden, so Yasmin and Charlotte signal for Chelsey to stop talking.

He joins them though, with Yasmin saying: “It’s a collective conversation.”

‘I can’t even believe that I’m having this conversation’

Lynx responds: “What the f*** have I done?”

Chelsey tells him she feels that he has “made it very clear that you don’t want to be part of this friendship group”.

She adds: “I think you’ve tried to make a lot of effort with everyone else, which is fine, but part of me feels like you’re doing it to be perceived as a certain way, and again I feel like it’s to be perceived by the public as, like, “I’m not part of this friendship group, I speak to everybody.'”

It’s safe to say he doesn’t take it well, as the conversation between them heats up.

“I’m f****** disgusted by that,” Lynx tells Chelsey. “I can’t even believe that I’m having this conversation.”

Is there trouble in paradise already? It seems Jedward’s reminder that “this isn’t Love Island” was pretty accurate…

In an press release, Dutch public broadcasting body NPO confirmed an independent team of experts will select and support the country’s entry, with NOS handling broadcast coverage.

NPO said NOS will provide coverage of the semi-finals and final in the Netherlands. The Dutch artist for Eurovision 2027 will be announced later in time, and the shows will be broadcast on NPO 1 and NPO Start.

NPO chair Jet de Ranitz said: “We understand that participation in the Eurovision Song Contest evokes mixed feelings in the Netherlands. We have explicitly asked the EBU to once again make the unifying character of the festival an important part of the event, in recognition of a time of geopolitical unrest, war, and polarisation.”

Eurovision director Martin Green said in a statement: “We are delighted to welcome the Netherlands back to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027.”

Why the Netherlands stepped back

The decision follows AVROTROS withdrawing from Eurovision 2026 over Israel’s participation and later deciding not to return in 2027, handing responsibility back to NPO.

Five countries pulled out of Eurovision 2026 over Israel’s inclusion, with AVROTROS saying it “can no longer justify Israel’s participation with the continued and serious human suffering in Gaza”.

More recently, Ireland confirmed it would be boycotting Eurovision in 2027 again over Israel’s inclusion.

What changes for The Netherlands at Eurovision 2027

From 2027, NPO will coordinate the Dutch entry as a joint project across the public broadcasting system, with an independent team established to select and support the act.

NOS will provide preview programming, coverage and commentary, without being responsible for the entry itself.

NPO’s director of media Jurre Bosman said: “It is important that, as a public broadcaster, we remain part of this unifying European event at this moment in particular, an event that wants to take serious steps towards a format that better reflects the times we live in.”

Officers were called to Tithebarn Street in Liverpool city centre shortly after 6.30am on Saturday morning, where three victims were found injured. The three were taken to hospital and one was reported to remain in a “stable condition”.

Merseyside Police said it is thought the incident unfolded outside GBar on Eberle Street following an “altercation” between two groups inside the venue. Police had earlier launched a “relentless” manhunt to locate those involved in the early hours of 20 September.

Patrick Morgan, 31, and Jonny Gee, 18, were charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding with intent, violent disorder and possession of a bladed article. Stephen Gee, 22, was charged with one count of Section 18 wounding, violent disorder and possession of Class B controlled drugs.

All three appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court on the morning of 23 September.

Since, the venue has had its license suspended, according to the BBC, with the Liverpool Echo reporting it has been shut with immediate effect.

What police say happened

Liverpool BCU Chief Superintendent Natalie Perischine said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to anyone who chooses to carry a weapon in the city centre and my message to those individuals is ‘we will hunt you down’.”

Perischine added: “Officers have been working round the clock to identify those responsible for this shocking incident in the early hours of Sunday morning. Within hours of it taking place we had executed a number of warrants and now have three people in custody.”

She said: “We know how important it is that people who live, work and socialise in Liverpool city centre, feel safe and I want the public to be reassured that we are doing everything in our powers to find violent criminals and put them behind bars.”

There has been no suggestion from police about what caused the altercation between the two groups.
