Who knew tea can be used to clean hardwood floors? Apparently, the tannic acid in strongly brewed black tea will not only clean your hardwood floors, but give them a nice shine as well. You’ll need to add 5 black tea bags into 2 quarts of boiling water and let steep for at least 15 minutes. Pour the tea into a mop bucket. Place your mop into the bucket of tea, wring out thoroughly, and ...continue reading

Have you ever found yourself in a sticky situation with chewing gum? First, try to remove as much of the gum as possible; as soon as possible. Then, try one of the following methods:

1. Place clothing in freezer, or freeze the gum with ice cubes. Then pull gum off.

2. Rub full-strength vinegar onto the gum.

3. Cover with egg white; loosen the gum.

Grab a bottle of cola and pour cola into a bucket or container large enough to hold the blood-stained item and let sit overnight. Then wash the garment as usual.

Cleaning the bathroom shower is probably not on anyone’s “most favorite chore” list. Some of us can get away with a once-a-week clean, while others may have to subject themselves to this daunting task more often. No matter how much we dislike it or how often we have to do it, it has to be done. The good news is, there’s one little trick you can do each day to help make your routine shower ...continue reading

In my last post I shared a story about my grandparents quarreling over a 35 cents coupon. Although it was quite hilarious to me, I felt my grandmother's pain. If I left my coupon at home, I would have left the item on the shelf until next time. In fact, I have actually left the grocery store after having my groceries rung up to go home and get my forgotten coupons. To me, it was ...continue reading

Straying a little off topic, I wanted to share a cute little story about my grandparents and a 35 cent coupon.

I recall several years ago, sometime in the early 90’s, sitting in my grandmother’s kitchen listening to her and my grandfather quarreling over a coupon. It all started because my grandfather bought mayonnaise without using his coupon. He thought he accidentally left the coupon at home, only to later discover that the coupon ...continue reading

Who knew a ceramic coffee cup can be used to sharpen knives? Just go to your kitchen cabinet where you keep your coffee cup and find one that has bare ceramic exposed on the bottom. Holding your knife at a 45 degree angle, slide the blade over the bottom of the coffee cup. Start at the back near the handle, sliding down towards the tip. Neat, huh?
