They're endorsing a coffee product, San Mig Coffee, by one of biggest companies in the Philippines which is San Miguel Corporation. As everyone knows they're the makers of world known San Miguel Beer and local brand Magnolia.

San Mig Coffee is relatively new and they're trying to penetrate the coffee market here in the Philippines. Getting two of the most popular endorsers is a good strategy but would that be enough? Nescafe seems to have been around for at least three decades and has been strong in holding on to the number 1 spot. It would take lots of great marketing for San Mig Coffee to reach number 1 but if they're happy with just a small chunk of the market then I think they've done just fine.

I must admit that I haven't tasted San Mig coffee even if they've been in the market for over a year now. Why? Because I feel weird drinking coffee that's named similar to its beer, San Miguel. Anyone of you who has tasted this coffee let us know. Thanks!

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show Off Your Coffee Mugs (13th Mug)

This is the Barako Mug by the emanila store in cafepress.com. They do have a lot of creative items in their store and they have something going there by using the word barako. It would be nicer if the mug fit the word barako more. I mean barako, as we know, is Coffee Liberica in the Philippines and it is known for its strong taste, powerful body and pungent odor. It is also often related to male strength and "machismo" that's why it would have been nice if the mug didn't look this smooth. Maybe something with a more rough texture will do. Nevertheless, it's still a creative idea to put barako in the mug and help promote it.

Interested in helping save the barako? Why? Because they do create wonderful commercial with catchy songs. Here's another Nescafe Coffee commercial with Bamboo singing. Nescafe sure knows how to get the bands/singers who are really popular. It's now wonder they're one of the most popular coffee brands here in the Philippines. Enjoy! He has this photography project called Project 52 where he shoots 52 photos in 52 weeks. Great idea huh? Here are some of the pictures he has and luckily they're coffee mugs from Starbucks Philippines - a great fit for Pinoy Coffee Tickle. Enjoy!

Starbucks Manila Coffee Mug

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg257uw6_vZvOUJhqeXpH1AvccSOhopQRYaWAcX6z6qKWZDh84XS6HXBUJyUCVMAZE71i_Fb9FuABH2I1mHI79DzzPvn8W1ZFdrIlMBnMqtFENR36KZ8bixgDikW5OhmJi1UL6cDAH17WNV/s400/Starbucks+Manila+Mug.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256931694701899458" />

Starbucks Mini City Coffee Mugs 2008
(Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Tagaytay)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnyX0Q3JwzfSf97wojwCqefCq08yWKxUbzMzVo4iOZSepd4_6IgEwcrDo6GOXSq5A-BPZgYzKv7asVFHsCjkUkL7qMOmOvEqPFi5ILWC3kF3XMlsVKcAqFPoTSgnhwxgZq-z4RqARwzA9y/s400/Starbucks+Mini+Mugs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256931700472808722" />

Hope you liked the mugs and the pictures. You may purchase your local beans in their Serendra branch to show your support to our coffee industry.

Filipinos are really coffee drinkers and according to the video even the production of coffee beans here can't supply the demand within the country. We will have to plant more and plant more if we are hoping to supply our demand and those of other countries.

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show Off Your Coffee Mugs (11th Mug)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVarKnc1IcPGkfBKGtuHUzSJIYiskBMmuUDiaO3qBPwlKkmiDVf0eIyY0a9OyQ-KucMUBJahNoAnOAtnQ8lpIPFkJ36i3UtJk5vuC924kVe-VVOfTS1BmWbJRs-6rDegZ546hyphenhyphenK_7nDneH/s320/Green+Philippines+Mug.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254359121598760434" />

This "Salakot Man Pinoy" Mug by Pinoy Apparel really caught my attention because of its color and the design. I have never associated the Philippines with this type of green since every time I see a Filipino design that is inspired by a flag it usually has the colors blue, yellow, red and white. As for this mug the only color or should I say shade is white so it was hard for me to understand at first but eventually I liked it and understood that as artists you should have freedom with your color and work. Who knows maybe this type of green will be the next "in" color. This is a mug that every Pinoy should be proud of us.

Pinoy Coffee Video Thursday #9: Nescafe goes Reggae

Another Nescafe commercial here in the Philippines that I was not able to watch...again! I was really excited and the mug's design design didn't disappoint.

How could it be disappointing when it was painted by BenCab, the Philippines' National artist. The painting is called "Conversation" and is Acrylic on Canvas 2008. The size of the painting is 48" x 48".

For those who want one, today is the last day to get your stickers but the last day of claiming is if I'm not mistaken, October 7. So hurry and treat your friends to some coffee tonight or better yet, don't treat them and just ask for their stickers.

It is such a beautiful mug and it is a coffee mug that I wouldn't want to use. I'd rather display this mug somewhere and treat it like a painting and hope that its value appreciates also..lol!

Coffee Video Thursday #8: Civet Coffee

Have you ever heard of the Philippine Civet Coffee? Kopi Luwak, or Civet coffee is coffee is coffee made from coffee berries, mainly found in the Philippines and other parts of Asia, which have been eaten by and passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Palm Civet (also known as the Toddy Cat, a cat-sized mammal). Weird right? I haven't tasted it though since everywhere I go it quite a huge "tag price attached" to it(One of the most expensive coffee in the world, selling for between $120 and $600 USD per pound). I will eventually try this since I'm getting curious by the day.

Learn more by watching the video above (It's in Tagalog though).

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show off Your Coffee Mugs (9th Mug)

As some of you know I went to Thailand last week and of course I couldn't forget bringing some coffee mugs from there. It took awhile to get to my 5th sticker (cup) since I hardly hang out in Bonifacio High Street for some coffee but I'm close to getting 8 stickers and that's all I need to get a Limited Edition Coffee Mug with Artwork by National Artist, BenCab.

This promotion ends on September 30 so you can still get you Coffee Hop Card and hopefully get your coffee mug. Goodluck with yours as I will also need that right now. I still need three stickers with limited time. That means I will have to go to Fort at least three times in a span of one week, which is a little out of my way. But in order to get my mug and for the love of coffee.. I will do it!

Coffee Video Thursday #7: Parokya ni Edgar for Nescafe Coffee Ad

Here's another Nescafe 3 in 1 Pinoy Coffee Ad performed by Parokya ni Edgar, one of the more popular bands here in the Philippines. Just like most Nescafe Coffee Ads, this is also one of their more creative ones and like other songs by Parkoya, this has got a nice tune to it. This is a very catchy ad that I wasn't able to watch on tv. But as I said earlier, the design was well thought of. If I am not mistaken the background of the coffee mug is the Sun in the Philippine flag and yes, the three stars are there too. Simple but great work huh? It is such a great feeling to watch some old Filipino TV commercials. I must admit that at first, the song wasn't that catchy but after watching it, I didn't realize that I was singing it and it was stuck in my head. The coffee commercial must have worked on me and it makes me want to drink coffee. Drink coffee...relax and reminisce..

Hmm..I'm not yet old though and I wasn't born yet when this showed but it just fascinates me how times really have changed - from what people used to wear to the production of TV commercials but one thing remains and that is coffee hasn't changed. It is still a wonderful thing, don't you agree?

Another thing that makes me wonder, was the sport Polo popular back in the days? Since it's in the commercial, maybe it used to be popular. The Polo Sport that I know now, besides the shirts and perfume, is not that popular anymore since it's quite an expensive sport and I feel that there are only few places where you can really play and open fields are not counted (I think). It raises the question, was Polo a sport for any Filipino before OR did Nescafe used to be a very expensive brand that only caters to the Class A/B. Or maybe I just misinterpreted the whole point of the commercial. What do you think?

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show off Your Coffee Mugs (8th Mug)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRvplYljbiQduwpeth7w521E4LYz_2OYaSRLdyghFvh5IwLWon_mmSfk9vu1J6RNIWElLYQaoPb9dQ7Uu2gjTfuUzhyphenhyphenGSEChe420IxHaA3BwUSfeclb2Yb6ICciIo8DDegZWOsQpQ9Hs_/s400/IMG_0714.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241436500194238530" />

It was my birthday yesterday and look what I got...a Coffee Tickle Mug (Thanks Ada!). Because of the coffee industry, there has been an additional 2 million jobs in Peru. In addition, Benavides said that:

"This is a decision that fills the coffee industry with pride because it recognizes everyone that is in some way tied to coffee such as producers, industries, exporters, distributors and consumers"

With all the support that the local coffee industry here in the Philippines is getting, there should also be an official day for coffee or for the barako too. We should celebrate as we not only save the barako but also become known worldwide for our great coffee again. This should be great for the country as it can create more jobs (as we really need them).

The Philippines and all other countries should include a coffee day in their calendar. Why? Because a lot of people love coffee and this could also create more jobs because of the demand for more people.

Here is a simple list that I compiled of coffee days by different countries:

March 24 - National Coffee Day in Brazil
September 12 - National Coffee Day in Costa Rica
September 19 - National Coffee Day in Ireland
October 1 - National Coffee Day in Japan

While there still has no complete list of all the countries who have a coffee holiday, I vote that everyday should be a coffee day for everyone. I guess that's what happening for the millions of people who drink coffee everyday.

Coffee Video #4: Blur's Coffee & TV

We have been showing ads lately we've decided to show something lighter today - Blur's Coffee & TV. The words coffee & tv are in the lyrics but the video isn't really about coffee. In fact, it's about a walking and animated milk carton who looks for Graham Coxon (a band member), who has gone missing and is being missed by his family. The milk carton faces a lot of trials throughout his journey which includes a near death(crushed) moment with a garden strimmer. Good thing it caught a break when a motorcyclist gave it a ride going downtown, where he experienced more hazards like being chased and losing a special someone. While asking for Coxon, he meets the love of his dreams who is a strawberry milk carton, which was suddenly crushed to death by a passer-by's foot. He then finds Coxon playing with his band, Blur. The window it was leaning on falls and Coxon picks it up. Coxon then rides the bus and returns home. Before entering to meet his worried family, he drinks from the carton which ends its "life." It was a happy ending though, as Coxon reunites with his family while the carton reunites with the strawberry milk carton as they go to heaven.

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show Off Your Coffee Mugs (6th "The Ninoy Aquino Coffee" Mug)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGJfV11V9-PXb6F6SElL8CWBio46IJgkDOZxH6eWVtP0kwO3ARak6-1dlJcnZddIRiTBnY9gqeCpRmHHy1sSYZrvo6w3WUgtxYDo84msFHAeI41a1It1UvSI67bnsODLpiJm4WyXHHGNTO/s320/Ninoy+Aquino+Coffee+Mug+copy.jpg" border="0" alt="The Ninoy Aquino Coffee Mug image"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5236129804474847570" />
The Philippines observed a holiday yesterday, August 18, because it was anniversary of assassination of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. The real date should be August 21 but President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, moves some of the holidays that are in the middle of the week to a Monday so as to create a long weekend.

On that day, after a three year exile, Ninoy Aquino returned to the Philippines where he was shot in the head as he was being escorted off the plane at the Manila International Airport (later renamed to Ninoy Aquino International Airport). Yep! I got it and I bought my first coffee from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf since they were the first coffee shop I saw and asked if they were still giving out the coffee hop cards at Fort Bonifacio. Since they were very nice I decided to buy coffee from them.

How long do you plan to complete the card?

I'm planning to complete the 8 stamps in two and a half weeks. I only get to go to that place during weekends maybe I'll drop by even on weeknights. My plan is to get stamps from 8 different coffee shops so as to give equal support (not amount) to all participating coffee places(Starbucks, CBTL, Figaro, Gloria Jeans, Bo's Coffee, Kape Isla, Krispy Kreme, Seattle's Best).

Complete yours now and claim your limited edition coffee mugs by National Artist BenCab.

Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday: Show off Your Coffee Mugs (5th Mug)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4FMHtMu6r9JnpIeTLjd_0gMsvGtAngHs62ZPD721pDvgHdyOObiyCR6xqzgaepyfAIIkW3PYq_Ep3ts5UgcjwKRN1HZPUqALZfv8FepH8hG_fVEE997_vCPh6iXKaesiAysZstylZqPIZ/s400/Got+Balut.jpg" border="0" alt="Got Balut Coffee Mug Image"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5233477973495847730" />

Got Balut? Nope! But what we have is this cool Got Balut? Coffee Mug by Pinoy Apparel. Isn't it cool to have one of the best known Filipino food shown in a mug. They did somehow copied the "Got Milk?" campaign but it is still nice and it is to know that this is really Pinoy-inspired or made. Pinoy Apparel does have lots of other cool mugs that will be featured in this site in the coming weeks of Pinoy Coffee Mug Tuesday but this Got Balut? Coffee Mug is too cool and just deserves a solo feature here in PCT.

So anyone interested in that cool mug please visit Pinoy Apparel's site and see more of what they have to offer. I'm sure you'll like it and might want to purchase one right away.

Hope you liked this week's mug..Getting a little hungry here and might want to have some Balut(for those who haven't tasted or seen one). But regard to taking it together with coffee, I will have to pass on that. Each has to be enjoyed separately don't you agree?
