Not that I’m impulse buyer, but the reason I do that is because it’s so hard for me to find a pair of shoe that I like and is available in my size. Size 12 anyone?

This is what happened when I bumped into the Nike JA 2 Scratch Black Label EP Basketball Shoes which is inspired by NBA player JA Morant.

I fell in love with it instantly when I first saw it in Toby’s Sports SM North EDSA. It is a bit pricey but it’s on sale so I said, why not?

Unfortunately only size 9 was left at Toby’s.

I searched it for it everywhere, only to find that it was available at the nearby Titan Ayala Malls Vertis North.

And guess what? It was the last pair at Titan and it was my size so you can imagine how excited I was. So as you would have guessed, I bought it on the spot (actually my wife did as an advance birthday gift for me haha!).

What I love about this shoe is that even if it is primarily a basketball shoe, it’s also a lifestyle shoe which you can wear as part of your casual getup.

It’s super easy to apply and locks in moisture in your hair given it that glossy well-styled look.

It’s also easy to wash off.

The only bummer here is that it’s not yet available in the Philippines. So if there’s any chance you can get this while you are traveling abroad, I strongly suggest that you try it. It’s one of the best hairstyling products I’ve tried so far!

I received this bottle as a gift from my father-in-law who is also a huge fan of different perfumery.

What I liked about this fragrance is that it is an improved version of the classic Acqua di Gio. It’s very suitable for formal occasions (think: Coat and Tie) and any night events and parties.

I wore this during the Century Tuna Superbods event last time. It’s very suited for events and late night outs.

Its outstanding notes are Sea Notes and Bergamot. It also has hints of aquatic notes.

I’d say it’s one of the classic fragrances that you would want to own. Just make sure to be careful of not doing more than 3 sprays at a time as it can be overpowering sometimes.

Nonetheless, it’s a pretty good fragrance!

This 2024 was no exception and what I especially liked about this year’s edition of Century Tuna Superbods Best You Ever is how they selected a diverse pool of contestants who are meant to inspire you in your own fitness journey.

I admit that over the years, ever since I became a dad, my fitness routines really slipped and I had let my health slide a bit so I’ve been searching for some inspiration to spark my motivation to live a healthier lifestyle – and I think this Superbods event did it!

So in this post, I’ll share why this year’s Century Tuna Superbods is one of the most inspiring yet – plus a complete photo gallery below.

Inspiration #1: Super Mom and Super Dad

Carlo Adorador and Imelda Schweighart are both dads and moms but that never stopped them from pursuing their fitness journey.

Inspiration #2: Couple (and Super Mom and Super Dad Goals as well)

It’s the first time I have ever witnessed an event where we have a real life husband and wife joining the same contest. Enzo Bonoan and Julia Sucgang-Bonoan here are truly couple goals who are able to keep their fitness lifestyle and find time to workout. They also won Super Mom and Super Dad awards.

Inspiration #3: Unstoppable Awardees

Carlo Adorador and Jasmin Ariola are both Unstoppable awardees. Carlo is an OFW and Jasmin, to my surprise is deaf mute. Despite that, it didn’t stop her from pursuing her dreams like joining a contest like Century Tuna Superbods.

Inspiration #4: Ageless Awardees

Perhaps one of the most impressive contestants are Derick Hibaler and Miaow Ayesa.

Derick is amazing because at age 52, he continues to keep a healthy and fit lifestyle and even managed to join Superbods. To be honest. I’d say he doesn’t look his age. He looks younger and maybe because exercise and diet is the key indeed!

My wish for myself and for my loved ones to become someone like him who takes incorporates fitness as a lifestyle.

So what happened? Why wasn’t I able to get a pair back then?

I clearly remember what occurred at that time. I was at Mall of Asia back in 2013 and I was trying on different pairs from their newly opened store and NONE would fit me.

I am a size 12 and they don’t carry that size back in 2013 here in the Philippines. Even a size 11 didn’t fit me.

And so, I lost my interest.

It took me more than 11 years, a wife, two kids plus a trip to Japan to finally get my own pair!

FINALLY.

And I love every bit of it.

So how was I able to get one?

Last May 2024, it was my first time in Japan. I went there with my wife and kids for a vacation and I finally understood what the hype was all about – Japan is such a beautiful country with so many places to see, delicious food to eat and a plethora of shopping choices. I didn’t want to leave – but that is a separate story altogether.

At last, I finally got a size 12 of the classic Onitsuka Tiger shoes.

I made sure that Onitsuka Tiger was in our itinerary because I knew that since the brand originated in Japan, it should have my size right?

And yes indeed!

It’s very comfortable to wear – it’s like my all around shoe and I find myself picking it up every time during weekends and casual hangouts.

I may be late to the party, but as my first pair it truly is worth the wait. Heck, I even influenced my wife to buy her own too which I ended up buying for her because it was Mother’s Day! What goes around, comes around, eh?

I bought this in Japan for about 5,000 Pesos (tax free as a tourist) but here in Manila they sell these shoes at about 7K to 9K Pesos (and they don’t even have my size! At least the last time I asked).

So does this mean that I have to travel to Japan if I want to buy another pair? I hope not. Or maybe it’s just an excuse for me to book my next trip to Japan because I SOOOOO LOVE that place. We will surely be back.

Let’s face it, Chinese brands have invaded MIAS, the biggest car show in the Philippines. I think 21 out of 29 brands in this year’s Manila International Auto Show are Chinese and most of them are new to the Philippine market or never heard. The cars are awesome, no doubt, but there are three things I wish for MIAS 2025. One is to bring back the well-known brands which have been absent in the past few editions of MIAS, two is to showcase more muscle cars like what they did back in the day. And finally, to centralize the event to just one location instead of two.

While this year’s MIAS is in fact huge, having the event spread out between two locations makes it a challenge for spectators in terms of logistics and parking. So I hope that they would centralize the event into one location next year.

But still, despite all that, there are some pretty cool cars I’ve seen. Here’s a photo dump of them.

It’s not too often that you’ll see a classic Chevy Camaro and a new generation model beside each other so it was pretty cool to see them in the auto show side by side.

Overall, there were plenty of brands during the auto show that were all interesting in their own right. One brand that I really liked is MG. They are still relatively new but I’m impressed how long they have come since the time when they were first introduced in the Philippines in 2018. They have come such a long way since and as a matter of fact their MG Cyberster sports car with scissor style doors was the highlight and scene stealer of the entire show.

I’ve been planning to visit this place since 2015 but those plans kept getting cancelled several times due to conflicts as well as the pandemic. But finally, on my birthday last August 2023, I finally got to visit this place with the family.

See, this theme attraction in Bagac, Bataan is really extraordinary. It features more than 60 Spanish colonial-era old mansions that the resort owner have collected from various parts of the country, disassembled, and then rebuilt here in the resort. Each mansion (also called a “casa”) have a story behind it. It’s amazing! They have been collecting and assembling it in the resort since 2003 but was not opened to the public until 2010.

The place is not that far from Metro Manila. It’s about a 3 or 4 hour drive so you can choose to either go for a day trip or book an overnight accommodation. If you ask me, a day tour is enough if you are coming as a small group of adults but if you are like me bringing my entire family consisting of kids and senior citizens, the best option would be an overnight stay. This is to allow everyone to get some rest as well as to not be pressured by the limited amount of time because there is a lot to see in the resort.

The resort is pretty huge, you need to ride a jeepney or a calesa to get around.

Every area is picturesque. It’s no wonder that many couples have either gotten married here, or had their prenup photos taken in the resort. The backdrop is just fantastic.

It feels like you are in a different time but more so a different place. It makes you feel like you are in Europe or something (except for the hot weather). It’s like living in a fantasy world.

It’s no wonder that the property has been used for shooting locations for movies like Heneral Luna. The scenery just blows you away.

The resort is a bit far from establishments, so that means to say you will heavily depend on restaurants inside the resort to eat. They are a bit pricey, but I particularly enjoyed our dinner at Cucina ni Nanay Maria. Apart from serving good Filipino food, you will also be serenaded by a band.

My favorite activity there was riding the calesa. It’s just very relaxing and the kids enjoyed it. Nothing compares to looking around the beautiful property on a horse-drawn carriage with the wind coming from the West Philippine Sea blowing through your hair.

When it comes to impressive architecture and interiors, nothing beats Hotel de Oriente, one of the structures inside Las Casas. Just take a look at the intricate designs of the ceilings and walls below. Don’t miss this when you visit Las Casas. Most prenup shots are taken here because of it’s incomparable grandeur.

And if you want to relax and feel like you are in Europe, there’s no other place like the “Pier” with it’s European-looking lamp posts. I could stay here for hours and not get tired of looking at the sea while seated on the banister. Las Casas says that they are planning to have a yacht or ferry boat that will take you to Las Casas from Mall of Asia and back. This will serve as the pier for that.

Overall, I’d say that our Las Casas experience is one for the books. There’s nothing quite like it. It’s one of those places that you won’t visit too often, but once you do, it imprints a memory that will last a lifetime. Make sure to savor every piece of it when you visit because Las Casas has so many interesting stories to tell.

I was sad because I used to see them as the epitome of people who had it all: wealth, fame, intelligence, status, marriage and kids. They seem to excel in every area of their lives. And the icing on the cake? They work full time in their foundation doing charity and humanitarian work. How cool is that? Who doesn’t want to be like them: financially-free and traveling everywhere to solve world problems?

I even follow them on Linked In and read their blogs as well as Bill’s year-end book recommendations. That is why when their marriage fell apart, I questioned if it is really possible for a person to have it all?

Apart from Bill and Melinda, people were surprised when Prince Harry and Megan chose to voluntarily give up their royal status.

Of course, one can only speculate what really happened but coming from an outsiders perspective, we see them as the privileged living the dream. They have wealth, status, fame, power, influence and heck even the looks. So why on earth would they even think about leaving the palace?

News outlets say that there is one thing they are missing: freedom. They can’t really do things that they would like to do because they are secluded, they are followed by paparazzies everywhere they go, and they are expected to behave in a certain way otherwise, they will be judged by the world because everyone expects them to be perfect.


Even for royals, it’s hard isn’t it?

Nobody is capable of too much excellence

What I’ve learned from the past three decades of my life, is that you really can’t have it all. At least, not all at the same time.

For every choice that you make, there is something that you will need to give up in exchange.

Think about it this way. Actors join show business at a young age and earn huge sums of money. In exchange for this and their good looks, they give up on their studies and the normalcy of growing up as a teen with many friends in school.

A good example of this is Bea Alonzo – a top actress from the Philippines. We love her because she is gorgeous and she is an extremely talented actress. But recently, she revealed that one of her greatest insecurities is not having the privilege to go to college and finish schooling.

Likewise, Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao had multiple championship belts. However, he started to slowly lose them as soon as he focused on his political career.

Dwayne Johnson (“The Rock”) started as a professional wrestler. He was really famous in wrestling but when that part of his career was over, he pivoted into acting and much to everybody’s surprise, he even became one of the highest paid actors.

What will you see in the above examples? No one is capable of being successful in everything at the same time. Nobody is capable of too much excellence. When you focus on something to succeed in it, you have no choice but to give up something else.

Even clowns juggle balls and drop some during a circus

In a typical circus, clowns would juggle multiple balls up in the air at once. But at some point, a clown would reach the maximum number of balls he can toss up in the air and he would end up dropping some of the balls to accommodate new ones in the process.

The same is true with life. You can’t keep juggling multiple things at the same time without dropping or deprioritizing other things. You can’t work on so many things at once without losing sight of something else.

As for me, I’ve learned this the hard way. When I was younger, I’ve always tried to get into the honor’s list not just in academics, but in almost everything I do in my life.

And while I was lucky enough to succeed in many things at the same time, I would always reach a breaking point where I couldn’t take on any more goals because I would always find that I didn’t have time and energy anymore to fit it into my schedule and so I would realize that I would need to drop something else to focus on a goal which is more important for me.

In retrospect, that is how I realized the hard way that you really can’t have everything. And to illustrate my point:


In 2008, I focused on blogging. I worked so hard on it that I became one of the top bloggers in the Philippines. My blog was so popular at that time that I even won in the Philippine Blog Awards. On the surface, it felt like I was on cloud nine and people around me couldn’t help but tell me how lucky I was to have it all.

But when I was alone, my thoughts would wonder and I would start to think about other areas of my life where I felt like I was not doing OK. At that time I didn’t have a girlfriend so I felt lonely. My software profession too, was a bit stagnant and mediocre and to add to that, my body was not in good shape – I was a bit overweight.

Then two years later, 2010, I decided to put fitness at the top of my priorities. That meant I enrolled in swimming lessons and started hitting the gym.


The reward came really soon after. In just a couple of months, I lost so much weight that I had to change my entire wardrobe. And while I was doing great in the looks department, my romantic life was again put to the backburner. I was single at that time and even if I looked better due to my new frame, I didn’t have a lot of time to date because I was so focused on my body goals and spending my free time running and hitting the gym.


Then in 2014, I decided to change my priorities and put all my focus on dating and meeting women. I went out with a few women and in just a couple of years, my hard work paid off. I finally found the love of my life who eventually became my wife. And so finally, I wasn’t lonely anymore. We got married in 2016, and we had two kids since. I felt glad that I was not alone anymore.


But as I focused more and more on married life and my software engineering profession, my blogging hobby and my fitness routine all fell apart. I found myself seldomly writing on my blog (read: I lost readers) and soon after, I also gained so much weight due to the lack of time to hit the gym. Eventually, I had to change my entire wardrobe again but this time for bigger clothes. It was a bit depressing to see the blog I worked hard for and the body I built for so many years start to slip away. I felt down for months. The frustration is just so palpable. But it is what it is.

You can’t have it all at the same time

But as I looked back, the whole journey I had in the last 10 years was eye-opening. Because that is when I came to the conclusion that you really can’t have it all. And maybe, that’s OK.

Maybe it’s OK that during your teens you focused on getting that degree and diploma instead of having fun with your friends playing computer games.

Maybe it’s OK that during your twenties, you focused on hitting the gym, looking your best and finding someone to love even if your job seemed to be mediocre at first.

Maybe it’s OK that during your thirties, you focused on your spouse, kids and career so you didn’t have the time to maintain those six pack abs.

Because at the end of the day, each one of us is like a clown in the circus. During different stages of our lives, we pick a different battle. We pick a different ball to juggle, and in the process, we may end up dropping another ball with lesser priority at that time.


And you know what? Maybe, that’s OK.


During the course of our lifetimes, our goals would change often depending on which stage of our lives we are in. It is virtually impossible to succeed in many areas of your life, and keep succeeding in all those areas while you continue to take on more goals. It’s simply not sustainable. Because as soon as you take on more goals, you will realize that you will lose grip of the other areas of your life that you previously succeeded in.

After all, you are not a superhero. You simply can’t have a ripped body, while also being a CEO of a company, a good husband/wife, an “always there for my kids” parent plus a rich, influential and famous person all at the same time. Your time and energy are limited and at some point one of these areas will break. But the more important question is, which one of these things will you let go of? And which ones would you like to keep?

Pick the battle that makes sense to you in your current stage in life

So what’s the trick here?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that you should pick your battles depending on which area of your life you are in. Focus on 1-2 main goals which you want to excel at and pick 2-3 secondary goals which you would like to keep as a form of your “support system” to keep you going.

As an example, if you are a student, you may want to double down on either becoming the top of your class OR becoming a varsity player. Pick one of those as your goal and make sure to become so good at it that it will be impossible to ignore you. Then pick 2-3 secondary goals to make sure you have the right support system in place. Maybe one of your secondary goals would be developing good friendships to make sure that you have a strong support group when things don’t go well.

Then when you graduate from college, you may want to focus on building your career and getting promoted. Then maybe you can choose fitness and having a romantic relationship as your secondary goal to have something that would inspire you as you progress on your career.

And when you get married and have kids in your thirties, you may want to shift focus to being a good spouse and a good parent before anything else. You can put your career on standby mode while you watch your kids grow for a few years before revisiting your career. You may also want to maintain a healthy weight as a secondary goal because health is always wealth especially when you have little kids depending on you.


In this example, you can see how you could switch priorities from one to the next. You can rotate your goals and make sure that at one point in your life, you have succeeded in them before you step on to another phase in your life. And once you go to the next stage, you can pick another goal that would make sense for you at that time and try to focus and succeed in it while putting your previous goals in the backburner or in autopilot mode.

After all, even Ronald Raegan was not an actor and a president at the same time. He was an actor first then years later became the president of the United States. Because even he, knew, he couldn’t do everything at the same time. He jumped from one goal to the next depending on which stage of his life he is in.

And so, even if your goals change from time to time as you navigate through life, one thing that should remain constant is having a support system that will always keep you in check. Whether that would be your faith in God, a romantic relationship, a friend or a family member, or better yet, all of the above – you should always have someone to help keep you on track and also to watch your back in case something does not work out.


So the answer is NO, we can’t be the best at everything all at once. But by trying to not have it all at the same time, but instead, trying to pursue your goals sequentially one at a time and rotating them while also keeping a healthy balance of your relationships, is the ultimate key to having it all.

Fast forward 13 years, I’m seeing the interest in football growing. Not as fast as I wish, but we are getting there. Contributing to my wish is LaLiga coming all the way to the Philippines last February 25, 2023, to help promote football here.

LaLiga is Spain’s top men’s football league and its official ambassador and former Atlético Madrid footballer Tiago Mendes came all the way toManila to share his own football journey and to join football fans for a watch party at the Mansion Sports Bar & Lounge

El Derbi de Madrid is the name given to football matches between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid which have more than a century of rivalry. The two football clubs faced off once again last Saturday which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Like me, LaLiga and Tiago Mendes also hopes that football becomes one of the biggest sports in the Philippines. When we asked him what advice he would give to young Filipino football enthusiasts, he says: “Follow your dreams and never give up. You will need everything. This is the path for happiness”

Manila Zoo’s Entrance and Main Attraction: The Elephant

Now this is the main gate of Manila Zoo.

First animal you’ll see is the elephant. I wish it was facing towards the camera, but he’s shy at the moment.

Thankfully after patiently waiting, he finally faced the camera of the HONOR X9a 5G. Bingo! Got the perfect picture. Note though that I zoomed the camera a bit to take this photo because the elephant is a bit far from the viewing deck.

Over here, we took our mandatory family picture. This is the best pose you can do when you have kids. Unfortunately the elephant turned back again. Haha!

Nearby the elephant, we saw these turtles. Guys, what are you doing? We have kids WATCHING you in the zoo! This is R18.

I’m impressed about the layout and look of the newly-reopened Manila Zoo. It’s beautiful and comparable to zoos and parks you see abroad. For the next two pictures below, I tested the wide-angle feature of the HONOR X9a 5G

Nat Geo in real life?

One of my favorite animals in the Zoo is the Toco Toucan. It’s such a stunning-looking bird. It feels like I’m watching Nat Geo live.

We visited Manila Zoo after lunch and its a bummer that the lions and the tigers are hibernating as pictured below behind the glass.

Fortunately though, the zebra is wide awake. So kids were happy.

Crocodiles are such amazing creatures. They can sit perfectly still, not moving at all and looking like an ordinary rock ready to attack any prey that comes close.

And of course, if there is any animal that would freak me out, it’s none other than the snake.

HONOR X9a 5G Multi-View Camera Test at Manila Zoo’s Children’s Park

One other attraction in Manila Zoo that the created is the kids park where children can play on slides and other obstacles like this.

As our kids played on the slide, I used one of the most fun features of the HONOR X9a 5G: The multi-view camera mode. What this mode does is that it allows you to shoot using both the front and rear cameras at the same time on a single split view like this.

This allowed me to shoot my kids playing, while also doing a selfie so you can see my reaction while the kids are playing.

I took a chance here to test the macro mode of the HONOR X9a 5G and was able to capture this colorful flowers and butterflies.

As finale to our trip to Manila Zoo, I took a photo of their many many peacocks.

Then we wrapped up the day with a landscape photo of the fountain and the entire park.

As you can see, the HONOR X9a 5G is a nice phone to have for the budget-conscious. While the photos are decent, I still think that Honor could have added some touches so that the photos would have been more vibrant. Nevertheless it’s a fun, robust and easy to use device. I particularly loved the multi-view camera mode as well as the macro shots – definitely one thing I’ll always use whenever I have this phone.

Part of that event, I had the chance to take home and play with the new Samsung flagship and here are my 5 most favorite things about this new device.

1. Eco-Friendly

I work in an airline / travel technology company and what I’ve learned here is that people are really starting to care about the environment – which is a good thing. Customers pick airlines with the least carbon emissions, book hotels that uses solar energy and pick brands and products that are eco-friendly. Following that movement, corporations these days are moving towards a sustainable manufacturing process that contributes to saving the environment.

And Samsung is one of those companies that are moving towards building and designing products with the planet in mind. As a matter of fact, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s colors are inspired by the environment and what’s even more interesting is that its parts are made of recyclable materials: 80% recycled PET, 20% recycled ocean-bound plastic and 22% recycled glass.

As much as I love how Samsung cares about the environment, I initially had reservations about the physical quality of the device because if I will be spending a ton of money on a flagship device, I don’t want it to feel like a clanky recycled metal or plastic.

And what really surprised me is that it isn’t. In fact, the materials still feel every inch a flagship and premium phone. See, if Samsung didn’t tell me that it’s made of partially recyclable materials, I wouldn’t have known.

So, good job to Samsung on this.

2. S-Pen

I loved the S-Pen during the Galaxy Note era and I’m happy that Samsung retained that in the S-series even after the Note series was phased out. To date, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra continues the S-Pen legacy.

Cremo boasts itself as having a barber-grade quality men’s grooming products.

Simply put, barber-grade means “astonishing performance, superior ingredients and dramatic results” as what Cremo says in their website. This means that their products will leave you a feeling that you just came from a haircutting or shaving session from your local barbershop.

It’s a bummer though that they are not readily available in the Philippines, but you can buy them online from US stores and have them shipped here. I had a chance to get myself a few sample bottles of Cremo men’s body wash, hair wax and shaving cream and here are a few details about my experience on each of the products.

Cremo All-Season Body Wash and Shaving Cream (Sage and Citrus)

It’s true that Cremo has higher quality than your regular everyday body wash.

I got here their Sage and Citrus Body Wash and the smell is AMAZING. It’s so good that you still smell the scent after you leave the shower.

It is considered one of their bestsellers. I use it for pampering after a long day’s work (don’t judge: men pamper themselves too.)

The product leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized.

The Body Wash I bought comes bundled with a shaving cream of the same scent.

However, apart from the smell of the shaving cream, I don’t see it as more special than other shaving creams I’ve tried in the past to be honest. It’s about the same as the other readily available brands that I’ve tried – only this one has a fantastic smell.

Cremo Thickening Hairstyling Paste

As the name suggests, this is not clay, it’s not wax, it’s paste.

What I liked about this product from Cremo is that apart from having high hold and low shine properties, it’s quite easy to wash off. Something that’s difficult to do with hair wax and clay.

I’ve been using this to work for the past few days now and it’s pretty good.

So there you have it guys. These are three of Cremo’s products I’ve tried which I can pretty much say is indeed premium barber grade quality.

A little trivia: Cremo is actually part of the Edgewell company. This is the same company that owns the men’s shaving brand Schick.

Given that Schick is available in the Philippines, I wonder when Cremo would be available here too. I wish it will be soon.

I figured why couldn’t I do the same? See, regardless if you are work from home or not, I still believe that face to face communication is the best form of communication. But sometimes you don’t have a choice especially when your colleagues are not co-located as you or some of them simply just prefer to work from home due to the still ongoing pandemic. In those cases, the best substitute for actual face to face will be Zoom or WebEx with your camera turned on.

So even if my laptop already has a built-in webcam, I still made a conscious effort to buy an HD webcam. A particular one that I have been eyeing for the longest time is Logitech C920 PRO HD Webcam.

It originally costs Php 4,699 but thanks to the recent 7/7 sale, I got it for only Php 2,675.

The camera works fantastic. It has a left and right microphone on the side, it has auto-light correction so that your image is bright and best of all is that it has autofocus and shoots at 1080p / 30fps full HD video to keep your face clear at all times during the call. I just love it.

The HD cam is ideal not only for meetings but also for streamers and casual vloggers who love to speak on cam.

The quality is amazing.
