How to Deliver the Highest Impact with Each Post

If your goal is to reach a wider audience and establish yourself as a blogger, your aim should be to have a big impact with each post. And if your goal is just to put your thoughts out there, maybe to stir up some discussion in the blogging world … you should also aim for high-impact posts.

Low-Impact Posts
First, let’s look at the opposite of high-impact posts. These are the kinds of posts you’ll see on many blogs, by the hundreds, that no one will find useful and bookmark or forward or talk about:

A few favorite links
What I ate today
Sorry I haven’t been blogging in awhile
Tagged: Why I blog
Blogging love
A dream

None of these posts are useful to people, or interesting. They’ll go out into the world and make not one drop of difference.
High-Impact Posts
There’s isn’t a formula for writing a high-impact post, but here are some tips from what I’ve learned:

Extremely useful. Be as useful as possible on a topic that people want to learn about.
Complete guides. An extension of the above tip, but as complete as you can be — someone should be able to read the guide and do whatever it is you’re teaching.
Great headlines. The headline should make people think, or curious, or promise to be really useful.
Controversial. Don’t just say controversial things in order to get noticed, but if you can think beyond the conventional and say something different, or in a different way, you’ll get people thinking and talking.
Short. Not all high-impact posts are short — in fact many aren’t — but if you have a post with one brilliant idea, written concisely and memorably, it’ll have a great chance of getting spread. See Seth Godin for some great examples.
Memorable. Don’t ever be run-of-the-mill. Do something different, in a way that people will remember. Be bold!
Consistent. One memorable post is good, but if you’re consistently useful and memorable, week in and week out, people will come to expect it of you and each post will have greater impact.
Full of resources. Link to other guides or great blogs or books. Save people hours of time researching a topic by giving them the best resources.
New ideas. Don’t repeat the same ideas — come up with some of your own.
Looking at new angles. Even if you don’t cover every aspect of a topic on one post, you can go into a lot of depth if you consistently cover different angles of a topic. The more angles you can look at in different posts, the more completely you’ll cover a topic.
Fewer posts. While the big blogs like Lifehacker and Gizmodo can put out a dozen posts a day, smaller blogs have to make their posts count. By reducing the number of posts you have, you are less likely to overwhelm the reader — and so the reader will be more likely to read your posts. They’ll also be more memorable if you can pour everything you have into each one.

WordPress Stops Pinging – How To Fix It?

I started noticed this when I upload my client site Game Previews made under WordPress 2.9, don’t get me wrong the new update is fantastic and some of the new features are extremely useful to use, but, and this is a big but, after installing the Wordpress 2.9, every time I made a post or used a ping back or trackback my WordPress blog would not ping or send pingbacks to other sites!

But now after searching for the answer! why my client Wordpress got that trouble I found the answer to this site blazingminds.co.uk . He did a little tweak to the file "wp-includes/cron.php" And he did fixed the problem!

If you look at the original code for cron.php you will find the following code:

$cron_url = get_option( ’siteurl’ ) . ‘/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron’;
wp_remote_post( $cron_url, array(‘timeout’ => 0.01, ‘blocking’ => false, ’sslverify’ => apply_filters(‘https_local_ssl_verify’, true)) );

You will notice that he have made a bit bold! This is what you need to change, change this to 1 so now it should read:

$cron_url = get_option( ’siteurl’ ) . ‘/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron’;
wp_remote_post( $cron_url, array(‘timeout’ => 1, ‘blocking’ => false, ’sslverify’ => apply_filters(‘https_local_ssl_verify’, true)) );

Now you should find that you pings are now working again, hopefully, I checked mine via the Ping Optimizer plugin and the log on the plugin confirmed a ping status!

General Films/Movies

Internet Archive – Feature Films: This archive of feature films contains some important classics from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s. We’ve featured ten good ones in a previous post. (You’ll find here films by Elia Kazan, John Huston, Fritz Lang, Howard Hawks and others.) We’ve also mentioned that the Archive hosts a nice collection of film noir flics. Crackle.com: If you’re looking for mainstream movies, here you go. This is Sony’s online movie play. You get free films here. But my guess is that there’s some geo-blocking that comes with this. NFB.ca: NFB.ca is a web site where you can watch films produced by the National Film Board of Canada. It offers access to 100s of documentaries, animated films and trailers. You can also access this collection via a free iPhone app.

QuickSilverScreen: This site essentially puts torrents online and lets you watch films posted by other users, including many new films. It’s hard to believe that this site is entirely kosher, but it’s very popular (one of the top 3,000 sites on the web) and hardly a closely held secret.

SnagFilms: SnagFilms “finds the world’s most compelling documentaries, whether from established heavyweights or first-time filmmakers, and makes them available to a wide audience.” You can watch full-length documentary films for free. Currently includes over 550 films. And, as one reader notes, “The best part … is you can give back to the charitable foundations behind each one of the documentaries.”

Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive: This online catalog “provides access to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive. The Archive serves as a comprehensive informational and archival resource worldwide for moving image materials pertaining to the Holocaust and related aspects of World War II. ”

The Auteurs.com: Though this site typically offers arts films on a pay-per-view basis, it does
feature a series of free films. Each month, a free film is featured (see example here). The site also hosts free international films restored by Martin Scorsese’s Word Cinema Foundation, mentioned right below. And you can find another set of free films here.

World Cinema Foundation: The WCF, created by Martin Scorsese in 2007, has restored a

10 Important Tips to Optimize Wordpress

Well of course this tutorial is original posted in "www.1stwebdesigner.com" and I would like to share it too to all my fellow Filipino wordpress developer out there. As a webmaster by profession, I also have so many kind of tools for SEO just to hit the top page of any search engine on the web. But as I search for an easy to understand technique to optimize your wordpress site for any search engines, I found this tips of 1stwebdesigner.com and I'm impress because some of this technique is unknown for me before but of course now I can say it's really works.

There is a wide concept in publisher’s mind that using wordpress means getting maximum traffic from search engines because wordpress is a very good CMS which hardly requires Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Well this concept is not as correct as it sounds. Wordpress also requires some optimization to get max out of search engines. For this purpose i made a list of 10 Important Changes which should be a part of your wordpress blog.

1. Use a sitemap generator and generate XML sitemaps like twice a week.

2. Use an Ideal Robot.txt File which do the following:

Points to the sitemap in first line.
Disallow unnecessary pages, folders so search engines get to your content instead of wasting time and getting less important stuff.
Here is a sample : http://www.designzzz.com/robots.txt

3. Using rel=”nofollow” Attribute in outgoing or less important links.

This Attribute tells the search engine bots not to follow the specific link or do not share that page’s Rank with this link. This is a very important tip , you can control your site’s SEO and Page rank by just using proper nofollow attributes. Here is a post i wrote earlier which can show you how to control your page rank and seo by using nofollow. Ok, the Less Important links includes links like Read more.. , Click here etc. This can be done by editing the template files easily.
Some plugins which we use in Wordpess blogs requires a must nofollow and we never thought about that. Here is a very cool example. You are using the easy retweet plugin and Retweet buttons are shown on start of every post even on your homepage. Lets say you have 10 posts blocks on your homepage and have 10 retweet buttons on it link to twitter.com !!! that means there are ten outgoing links, you are sharing your site’s page rank and getting lesser visibility in search engine. it can be nofollow from its settings.

4. Proper URL and Title Structure

It is the most important part which we neglect while publishing a post. Lets take a simple example. I am about ot publish a post lets say.
10 Awesome Graphics Designs and Digital Artworks the URL would be :
www.yoursite.com/category/10-awesome-graphics-designs-and-digital-artworks

Seems pretty much alright, right? Well..here u miss about 30% of your visibility!!
A simple reason using STOP WORDS in title and URL are the worst idea u can think up of. !! AND is a stop word. About the url why make it so long using extra stuff in it like the word 10 , and etc. Trust me no one will search for your content in search engines with these words 10 graphics design. If they look for that they will search graphics designs etc.
So get rid of 10 , and from your URL. Here is how they should be:

* Title: 10 Awesome Graphics Designs n Digital Artworks

* URL: www.yoursite.com/category/awesome-graphics-designs-digital-artworks/

Makes sense? well i don’t even use the category name in the URL structure to make it smaller and more powerful!

5. Using Keywords and Meta Description:

Ok, i have noticed that most of the bloggers use very tiny keywords. Well, guys small get a habit of using long tail keywords,because with them u get traffic for life time. Lets take the example of that above title post. keywords/tags which bloggers normally select are: graphics, design, digital, artworks. Why don’t you spice them up a bit to get even more traffic? If i would do it , I would use these keywords:

Graphics, Design, Digital Artworks, Graphic Designs, Digital Graphics.

I actually spread the same keywords with order and words variation!!

About meta description keep it below 160 characters and add your keywords in it as well as possible like each keyword should be mentioned at least once.

6. Automatic SEO Plugin for Wordpress

Well, I have used several plugins to test which one is good and the only plugin which satisfied me is Headspace2 SEO. I Recommend it.

7. On post page title of post should be written in Heading 1 (H1). and its very important to use your keywords in h2, h3 and h4 if possible.

8. Title and ALT Attribute in Links:

Ok, this is an important part which none of us actually look at. Title and alt attributes in links plays an important role in telling search bots that what this link or image is about.
Title and alt attributes are written like this if you are unaware of it:

* Keyword

My site gets 10% of its traffic from Google image search!! Because I use proper alt attribute.
Consider this example!! Like the graphics design post we discussed above. Your post consists of 10 Images. That means not much text to get good ranking and visibility in search engines. So why not use alt attribute in an optimized way!! in 10 images add alt tags with picture name + keyword/tag.

For example, the image name is abcd. i will add the alt attribute as alt=”abcd design” or abcd graphics etc. That means in 10 places on your page’s source code your keywords are used! I think you get my point.

9. Avail Wordpress ping facility to get max exposure and inbound links

How to pimp twitter profile?

A minute ago I decided to make my twitter profile look different and great. So what I did is to contact my friend "google" to teach me how to make it great in my own sight.

I search and I found this article of sitemasher titled "Pimping Out Your Twitter Profile Background ". I really appreciate what she said on her article like this one, "pimping out your Twitter profile background can help your personal branding and marketing efforts", I'm agree with her promise.

So before you decide to close this tutorial, I'll better start this tutorial so you can achieve your desire design layout for your twitter profile.

First you need to open your Adobe Photoshop or any graphic software you have so we can begin. Of course the design is up to you and I'm only gonna give some tip of what you must put in your design.

You must not forget to put the link word of your blogs, website or any link you want to share to your followers in your design. And don't forget to place it to left part or right part of the designed.

Then make it sure that your design template sized in 1280 x 1024. why? because I like it but always remember to make your design background color the same to the background color setting in your twitter account so that if the resolution gets wider, the designed of your twitter will not look short or not fit.

If you already done with your designed. Just log in to your twitter account and go to the setting menu. Then find the Design Navigation menu there. If you found it just click it and look the " Change background image » " so you can browse your own designed from your computer then if your done just click the "Save Changes" Button. After that you can it clearly you designed upload and already set in you twitter background.

Recently Cnet.com News discuss with the Microsoft CEO about Microsoft competitor software company which developing a new and stable software for this coming years, namely, Linux, Apple and the looming threat from Google's Android and Chrome OS. But Ballmer the Microsoft CEO said ""Right now I just put it on the list for competitive completeness.". We're all know that Steve Ballmer is the new Microsoft CEO and the Microsoft's biggest economic engine, its Windows business.

And Ballmer added that "Any business that is as big...as Windows deserves competition." Well I think he have the right to say that but for me He is so chesty as a peacock enough to be fall. The Windows System will get more competitor right now and it will held it into deep deep down and never to get out from the mess that Ballmer started.

However, he noted that the company still had work to do with the analysts, counting up the significant number of Macs in the crowd. "Don't hide it," he said. "I've already counted them. I've been doing it since we started talking...Feel free. As long as you are using Office go right on ahead." So Ballmer assumed that all computer savvy in the world still using his Golden Windows.

Earlier in his talk, Ballmer also walked through the economics of the search ad deal with Yahoo, highlighting its benefits to both companies, calling it a win-win.

Google Cache

Maybe you wondered why every time you tried to search in google.com you notice that each entry you've search have the link "Cache" in the end of each excerpt line.

Well that is the Google cache feature of Google.com were you can view the snapshot of your website. And Google.com used this for examines version of your website as a back-up page. Yes back-up page that Google.com uses to judge if a page is a good match for your query.

But for me not all the time this is useful because this is not always updated and sometimes the link to that snapshot page is not always accurate specially if you have a dynamic website and always do an update to all your content.

So the Google.com released an option if you want to update the cached page of your website and prevent Google bot from caching the page in the future, you just add the noarchive meta tag to your header HTML file within tag. like this;

meta name="robots" content="noarchive"

and to prevent only Google from displaying one, use the following tag like this:

meta name="googlebot" content="noarchive">

(don't forget to put the <> tag between line of meta tag)

And that's it, you can control now your cache page in the Google search engine. Or once you done from adding this meta tag to your HTML File, you can use also the URL removal tool in Webmaster Tools of Google.com.

For those who didn't yet know, Mac OS X can be used to all generic computer like windows OS do. And in fact this Apple introduces Mac OS X snow leopard at the WWDC or Worldwide developer conference attendees.

Both this two software companies focusing on performance enhancement to the operating system that's why Windows 7 release for Vista upgrade. But many companies or account thinking for what is the best upgrade they gonna make.

Both this two companies have something to tell to all user that they seem to bear out improvements in the operating system. Apple and Microsoft are fighting for the mind share of consumers as both companies prepare for an upgrades to their operating systems later this year.

It seem that we need to think twice which this this operating systems that fit our need. By the way, Apple said Snow Leopard is expected to ship in September. Microsoft will release Windows 7 in October.
so better to wait and see which these two operating got success when it comes to upgrade.

Okay let's start this by probably creating a brand new website.

Every body want to index their website to all search engine right? That's why, when they finish their website, the first thing they do is to submit their site to few search engine and hoping that people would mysteriously show up your site and buy whatever it is you were selling.

And after a couple of weeks go by and only a few stray people show up at your website, and you decide to try optimize your website around your main keyword in hopes that you just might rank well in 1 of the millions of search engines. And another couple of weeks go by and still no luck.

At this moment maybe you probably give up and decide to, either build another website around and just lose all hope and quit. Well this are the few tips you need to know if you want to be top in your keyword.

First thing you must do is to find the good keyword for your website. Of course you ask me how to find good keyword? well it so easy, just search in the search engine the keyword you choose that make sense to your site for example "Pinoy Tech" then check out the result output in the right top corner of the search engine.

If you go to the Google and enter "Pinoy Tech", you'll see there are almost 4,630,000 websites competing for this keyword phrase!

I don't know about you, but that's an awful lot of websites to be competing against, especially if you're just starting. So I suggest to start brain storming at the same keyword with different setting like " Pinoy Tech site " for example in order to
target the same keyword but in the minimum competition area.

Now you want to index your website in just 24 hour? how you gonna do it? you think maybe you gonna submit your site at all search engine and using their form submission? Do I'm right to what your thinking?

My friend, I suggest Don't DO THAT. Why? Because when you submit you site to those url submission search engine site it will 6 week before your site to be place in the search engine.

So how you gonna place your site in the search engine in just 24hour? well just search a site in the search engine with the same of the keyword you choose and find those site that will appear in the list of particular search engine that have a page rank higher than 6! That's it and do professionally ask the owner of that site to have your site link to their site.
