Anionic surfactants in laundry detergents.

Surfactants are active cleaning agents that perform these functions: penetrating and wetting fabric, loosening soils, and emulsifying and keeping them suspended in wash solution.

Anionic surfactants is a the most common surfactant in laundry detergents. It is effective in emulsifying oil and clay soil, fabric softener residue and are high sudsing.

Examples of anionic surfactant are linear alkyl sulfonates (LAS), alkyl aryl sulfonates (i.e. dodecylbenzene sulfonate (DDBS) and alcohol ether sulfates such as sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES).

Procedure:
Charge vessel with water and begin agitation. Disperse or screen Carbopol into water. Continue mixing until Carbopol is fully dispersed. Add caustic soda to pH target. Add remaining ingredients and mix until homogenous.

Note:
Incromide CA is an effective detergent and emulsifier. In combination with Carbopol 676, Incromide CA helps keep the abrasive particles well suspended in the emulsion.

Hydrocloric acid alternative for concrete remover formulations.

Glycolic acid is an alternative to the more corrosive phosphoric acid and hydrochloric acid in concrete remover formulations. Glycolic acid has high solubility and small molecular size allow it to penetrate deep inside concrete residues and react from within. Biodegradable glucolic acid is easier to dispose than phosphoric acid and hydrocloric acid.

Since glycolic acid is less corrosive, it can be used on most metal, painted, and plastic surfaces without concern for etching or damage. It is also an ideal cleaner for maintenance tools, equipment and vehicles.

Dupont's Glycolic acid has the following properties:

Efficient at penetrating and loosening concrete.
Highly effective calcium complexing agent.

Optical brighteners mask undesirable appearance of fabric like yellowing by introducing a complementary color. Optical brighteners make the fabric appears cleaner, brighter, and whiter. That is why it is optical, it appears bright and white to your eyes.

A.K.A. brightening agents, fluorescent bleaches, optical whiteners, optical brightening agents (OBAs), fluorescent brightening agents (FBAs) or fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs)

Optical brighteners are dyes that absorb light in the ultraviolet and violet region and convert and visible blue-violet light. This re-emiited blue-violet light interacts with the yellow light emitted by the fabric giving an overall whiteness appearance.

One example is sodium xylene sulfonate (SXS). SXS is an effective coupling/solubilizer/hydrotrope for water solutions of various surfactants and hydrophilic solvents. It promotes the compatibility of various ingredients present in a multi-component system. Aside from SXS, short-chain aromatic sulfonates like cumenesulfonate, amphoteric or phosphate ester surfactant,some glycol ether sulfates, and urea are used as hydrotropes.

This formulation serves to retard deposition of spots and films on ceramics, flatware, and glassware.

Crodasinic LS-30 provides wetting and promotes formulation stability without compromising rinsing performance. Unlike petroleum-based hydrotopes, Crodasinic LS-30 will not discolor the formulation nor will it impact it's odor.

Procedure:

Add the first five items in the order listed with agitation. Allow each ingredient to disperse completely before adding the next item. Adjust product pH to 10-11 with caustic potash liquid. Add the Incromine Oxide C with agitation and mix until uniform.
