There's always next week, in fact next week is a short work week for me, only three days (have some vacation time to burn before 2/14) with luck, we'll be able to finish my Samurai dump truck mod! Then we'll polish off the plumbing and hang the man door... Maybe able to start pouring some cement... And so is our little project. Had to do a bit of engineering of the roof line to get it to match the existing roof of the board walk. That and the big door gave us a little trouble getting it in and working right. Unlike most of our projects cutting in the water heater was a snap, and just slid in... Although we still have to plumb it in. (as a side note, MDR asked what kind of a water heater, well true to our recycling habits, we are using a propane model from an RV we dismantled a couple of years ago. They are fairly efficient, and since it is just for the one sink in the saloon it should be big enough. Later on I would love to make up and install a couple of solar units to preheat the water.)<br><br>All in all the day was a success. With just a bit of luck tomorrow will be the final day and we can put this project to bed. I will have to wait till it starts to warm up at night so I can pour a cement floor. (another side note, before I start to pour the floor, we are building a dump bed to slide into the back of my little Samurai to move the sand we'll need. That is also going to make caring for the road that much easier.) Today we finished paneling the roof, and the two walls. Tomorrow we'll get the hallway done, and the large door. We are also installing a water heater in the one wall and plumbing it into the saloon... That's gonna be huge for the wife! <br><br>I'm gonna take up a great practice from one of the bloggers I follow (MDR... AKA Modern Day Redneck you can find a link on the right) and give a total dollar spent on this project... Drum roll please... $0! Yep I kid you not. This entire garage is being built with reclaimed materials. The frame and panels are concrete form's from a highway bridge project from a few years ago. One of my dad's last construction jobs was redoing the bridges on Interstate 40 west of Needles California. When the job was done, they were transporting the unused panels to the dump... First one is the building of a small garage to house the generators, large tools, quad, etc. We started today with the leveling the floor out, welding the floor rail, studs on the northern wall, a few ceiling joists, and headers.... Whew that was a lot. With luck we'll have roof and walls up, just have to make a couple of doors... Our original plan was to reuse a roll up garage door from a relative, but we will not have the height to do so. So barn doors are in the future... Our plan was to clean up and organize our &quot;junk&quot; pile (I call it the bone yard), then we want to build a small garage to house the bikes, quads, and other large things that need to be under cover, and as always we need to finish the insulating and dry wall the living room.<br><br>In the void of the old bone yard, we are going to start planting our orchard of nut and fruit trees, and a new pen for the goats :) a lot of work to get from here to there, but I know it'll be worth it... The holidays are over, it is the New Year. We are looking at a few changes around the home front, trying to replace our poor broken down blazer, and looking at a more economic form of transportation... Just hope it can make it out to the ranch. The dealership we are dealing with has been very generous and has offered to let me test drive the car we are looking at out to the ranch, to see if it'll make it. The model we are looking at is a small suv that is advertised at 35 mpg. What concerns me is, it is front wheel drive and I am not entirely sure it will make it up the hills especially when it has been raining and snowing. When we do this change we will be getting rid of the two jeeps and the blazer, keeping only the full size jeep Cherokee and the new little car, it will be more challenging getting the supplies we need out to the ranch, but I feel the savings in the fuel alone will help us immensely.<br><br>So question to anyone who reads this, front wheel drive will it work for life in the sticks? The finish work is taking a bit longer than I thought it would, but that's par for the course. While I was there I picked up some lumber and a ripping guide for my Skill Saw, then headed home with a half dozen of Dunkin' Donuts and enough time to rip down some lumber to trim out the saloon door, move the full-light storm door, then install our new (marked down door we bought at the big orange last month half off!) self-storing storm door to the front of our winter room. Had to do a bit of engineering to move the already installed handle up to clear the door handle of the front door. Then before putting everything away, I finally got around to trimming out one of our windows we installed last year... Whew... It's been a busy day... We never had a place to put it her at the ranch, until we had some place to move the couch. So today we did just that, couch was moved to the saloon, and we rebuilt, and painted her bed, (looks better than I thought it would, after sitting outside in the dirt for three years) and in the process cut some 18 inches off the legs, putting her sleeping surface half way between the floor and ceiling.
