As most of my readers know, I work from home. My husband and I own CooperHouse and we are lucky enough to be VERY busy building websites for lots of awesome people. We ADORE being home with our girls and getting to be present for all those important moments in these early years, but we need some help. We have tried Sitter City and some other online resources with very little success. Almost everyone wants us to drop the girls off, or want to bring their own children to our house, or have schedules that won’t permit them to be there for us every week day. We are lucky enough to already have a couple great sitters who we use for date nights and meetings, but we need to find someone who can accommodate our daily work schedule and provide care in our home.

Our girls are 2.5 and 2 months. We need someone who can come to our home, 5 days a week from 9 am to 4 pm. We want someone with experience, references, and an easy going nature. You don’t have to be Mary Poppins, but you do need to love kids and babies. We are fine with nannies of all ages. Anyone that becomes our nanny essentially becomes an employee of CooperHouse and another member of our family. We want to find someone that we click with and that can be with us until the girls start school in a few years. This is an important position and I am working hard to exhaust every avenue in search of the perfect nanny for our family.

If you live near NW OKC and are interested in being our nanny (or if you know someone that is) please email me erin {at} pippinandpearl.com so that we can discuss specifics, salary, and references.

I went to my first Oklahoma City Thunder game last night. It wasn’t just ANY game… It was a battle between my former home town, Denver, and my new hometown, OKC. OKC prevailed, thanks to some seriously amazing playing by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. In general I’m not really a sports fan, but being at a game is SO DIFFERENT than watching on television. The energy of the people around me was infectious and by the end of the night, I had a little crush on James Harden and I found myself saying “Woooo!” more than a few times.

Oh, and I got my Oklahoma City shirt at Blue Seven. Thank you to all my Twitter friends who gave me wardrobe advice. :) Although, I felt pretty overdressed next to the Thunder Girls. Call me old fashioned but, it was weird to me that they had this minister come out to bless the game, and then sent scantily clad ladies to run out right after and shake their butts all over the floor. I kept seeing these little boys watching with wide-eyed wonder as the Thunder Girls were bounding around in the aisles. Hilarious.

On a slightly serious note… The people who were honking and flipping out on people in the parking garage were SCARY. I know everyone wants to get home after a game, but FOR REAL, we had a lady threaten to “M*!#@^ F@%$!* Kill” us for pulling out of our parking space beside her before she did. Absurd. Maybe she was an angry Denver fan!

All in all though, it was a super fun experience and I loved how proud everyone was when OKC won. They were still chanting “OKC! OKC!” as they poured out of the stadium. My little nephews (who know about my general apathy towards sports) were at the game as well and when they heard what a good time I had, they said… “Welcome to the dark side!”

I probably am not going to be a sports lover, but I will definitely pay more attention when the game is on at the pub or wherever… if only just to see how my boyfriend with the beard is doing. ;)

Right next to my iPhone, vitamins (Yes Mother, I’m taking the B12 you suggested.), and a giant glass of water, I’ve been making room for these reads:

I picked up this copy of Design*Sponge at Home at a local shop, Blue Seven. Ever since Adele was born, I’ve been mentally switching gears towards making this house our forever home. We moved here with the idea that we’d move back to Colorado or Oregon eventually, but we’ve decided to stay in this house and build a life for our little family here in OKC. (Maybe we’ll buy a vacation home in Colorado or Oregon someday…) Now that our family is complete, I keep thinking about all the little things I want to do to make this home really feel like “ours” and Grace Bonney’s fabulous book is giving me the inspirations I need.

I saw this book, Bringing Up Bebe, mentioned on A Cup of Jo, and I immediately told Tim we needed to read it. We are both consuming it right now and although we’re not sure everything about being French works for us, a lot of their attitudes about parenting are interesting and thought provoking. I really love that the French culture is more supportive of adults being adults and not centering their whole lives round their children. I often feel guilty for not loving every second that I’m with my kids, or feeling relief when I get to go work (I really do love being a designer and I would never want to give it up) or go out with my friends. I’m going to probably write a bit more in depth about this book when I’m finished.

For one thing, Gwyneth Paltrow looks AMAZING on this cover, but the real reason I’m posting is all about the redesign of Harper’s Bazaar. They’ve increased the size, moved to thicker paper, and done a bit of a refresh of the cover. I hope it’s indicative of an upswing in the magazine industry. I love my blogs, and I love my online books, but nothing will ever take the place of sitting down with a glass of wine and a glossy magazine. :)

Our design relationship with Design Crush goes back a few years. CooperHouse helped Kelly with her jump from Blogger to WordPress a couple years ago, and last year with her redesign. The unique thing about blog design is that because it’s such a rapidly changing medium, you have to keep your design fresh in order to remain relevant. Kelly really understands that and she’s always looking for the best way for her site to reflect that. Her logo was designed by the brilliant and talented Kathleen Shannon of Braid Creative (and also Jeremy & Kathleen).

We simply took that logo as a jumping off point to create her site design. (You can read more about this logo and Kathleen’s design here – Identity: Design Crush)

Her previous site design was all white, and Kelly decided to switch it up for a bit with a change to charcoal gray and some punchy little bright spots of color sprinkled throughout.

When you first look at her site, it’s a pleasing monochromatic palette.

As you explore her navigation, her colors flicker to life.

I don’t write very much about all the development that goes into these sites, because it’s really Tim’s area of genius. He’s responsible for making everything work perfectly. Kelly’s site was a unique development challenge for us, just because of her popularity & traffic, but we’ve had a wonderful working relationship with her and we’ve learned so much together along the way. We’re already looking forward to whatever design update she has planned next.
