Your resume will not be entered into the database unless it has been approved by an CSO counselor (who will review it upon receipt). PREPARE FOR THE NEXT RECRUITING SESSION WITH THE MOCK INTERVIEW PROGRAM!

Participate in a mock interview with an attorney practicing at a mid to large law firm in Pittsburgh or with a public interest or government organization. Then, join them in a round-table discussion on getting that job, from appropriate dress to answering those difficult questions.

Dates: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 (law firm), Wednesday, May 16, 2012 (law firm or public interest/government organization), Thursday, May 17, 2012 (law firm or public interest/government organization), Friday, May 18, 2012 (law firm).

Students are invited to attend a "Lawyer to Lawyer" luncheon at Giant Eagle, Inc., hosted by Rick Russell, Vice President and General Counsel. This event is open to all students, regardless of whether you have previously attended a Lawyer to Lawyer event this year.

This Lawyer to Lawyer is part of a continuing series developed by the Career Services Office whereby students are invited to visit various workplaces to see the law in practice. Lunch will be provided and formal business dress is required.

The Dick Thornburgh Prize for Public Service And The Dick Thornburgh Prize for Legal Service

University of Pittsburgh School of Law

The Dick Thornburgh Prize for Public Service was established to celebrate the outstanding public service career of Dick Thornburgh on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his graduation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and was first awarded in 2007.

The Class of 1957 is a remarkable group of many whose members went on to become judges, educators, and high-profile attorneys. Of those dedicating their careers to public service, the most well-known is Dick Thornburgh--former two-term Pennyslvania Governor and Attorney General of the United States serving both Presidents Bush (41) and Reagan. Dick Thornburgh, early in his career, made the decision to accept the challenges of public and legal services.

This year two awards will be granted to two outstanding graduating law students. One award, The Dick Thornburgh Prize for Public Service, will be presented to a student whose goal is to pursue a career in public service. The second award, The Dick Thornburgh Prize for Legal Service, will be presented to a student who has worked the field of legal services for our low-income population while in law school and intends to continue in this career path. One such example would be working with the Neighborhood Legal Services organization.

The selection process and criteria for this one-time financial award of $2000 per student is determined by the Dean of the School of Law in consultation with Mr. Thornburgh.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Eligibility Requirements for the Dick Thornburgh Prize for Public Service: Graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in May 2012. Accepted a position in public/government service following graduation. Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to public service.

Eligibility Requirements for the Dick Thornburgh Prize for Legal Service: Graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in May 2012. You must be a student who has worked field of legal services for our low-income population while in law school and intend to continue in this career path. Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to legal service.

Application:Submit cover letter indicating post-graduation plans along with interest and commitment to public and legal assistance services. Submit resume to the Law School Financial Aid Office no later than 5:00 pm on April 20th.

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Allegheny County Bar Association will be presenting panel discussion on practical tips and suggestions on how to survive the Bar Exam. The panelist will discuss the following topics will be covered: (1) Bar exam study courses; (2) Bar exam study habits; (3) Managing stress; (4) Financial considerations; (5) Practical advice for exam day. The panel will also be available to answer any other questions students may have about taking the Bar Exam.

The YLD is also launching a new program this year called Bar Buddies. This program is designed to provide students taking the Bar Exam with a Bar Buddy who can answer questions and provide tips on taking the Bar Exam. This will be a great resource for students who are taking the bar exam and may have questions while studying. You will be able to sign up for Bar Buddies at the Bar Exam Panel.

Exhibits will be on display from Broken Slogan, featuring work by Jonathan Chamberlain, John Phillip Abbott, and Arthur Mohagen III. Each artist’s work maintains a rich visual vocabulary incorporating the use of text, both as image and subject.
