Gretchen and Andrew’s Wedding at the Rose Barn at North Park

After working on an events team for nearly a decade, Gretchen is an expert in wedding day drama. I’m sure, like me, she has heard and seen a lot of crazy things at special events. So, if Gretchen is worried or concerned about something related to her wedding, I know that it is real stress of an experienced event professional. After a few worries leading up to the wedding day, I’m happy to report that Gretchen and Andrew’s wedding was a truly wonderful time. They planned how they wanted their wedding to look and feel, and most importantly, how to spend their time together. Gretchen and Andrew were married at the Rose Barn at North Park. Gretchen processed down the aisle beneath two swords to commemorate her time training for stage combat. Their cocktail hour was punctuated with six heartfelt speeches and their night was a fun and relaxing time spent with family and friends. Personally, it was great to spend the day with Gretchen, Andrew, and her all-star team (Hello Jeremy Ganss, Hello Heinz History Center Crew!) making sure her wedding was as special as all of the weddings she helped to make so lovely over the years. Gretchen and Andrew’s Engagement Photos at Point State Park

Gretchen and I met nine years ago when she was working at my favorite Pittsburgh wedding venue, The Heinz History Center. Though she wasn’t dating anyone at that time, she told me that I would be her wedding photographer. She made a point to repeat herself over the years, and while sometimes the stars don’t align for such a promise, they have this time and I’m delighted. Gretchen and Andrew met while working as actors. This photo shoot was wonderful. I don’t want to say it was wonderful because they were actors, but because they were so genuinely happy and gracious. They’re probably great actors too! I’m so excited to photograph their wedding this fall. Congratulations, Gretchen and Andrew!

Emily and Carson’s ShotBox

Emily and Carson freely admitted that they practiced their expressions and actions for their wedding ShotBox. It was time well spent because their light saber battles are stunning (haha). While their guests didn’t have time to practice before the wedding, they were really entertained by the props they chose. Congratualtions again, Emily and Carson!

Emily and Carson’s Wedding at the Mattress Factory

Emily and Carson showcased a lot of personality and emotion on their wedding day. First, they shared a very emotional First Look in Pittsburgh’s North Side. Emily was so excited that I barely got into position to catch a photograph of her approach to meet Carson. Next we traveled to the Mattress Factory for their wedding ceremony and reception. After a group-wide high-five, and surrounded by their closest family and friends, Emily and Carson walked together down the aisle to their self-uniting ceremony. Tears continued through a read of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Same-Sex Marriage, a poem written by their future sister-in-law, and Emily and Carson’s unique written marriage vows. It was such a singular and wonderful event that highlighted their personalities and commitment to each other. The event staff was great too, with food by Black Radish Kitchen, entertainment by DJ Arie Cole, and photography help from Nicki. I’m thrilled to have been a part of this event! Congratulations, Emily and Carson!

Taresa and Nick’s Wedding at the Pittsburgh Field Club

When I met Taresa and Nick for the first time, they said that taking their wedding portraits at Point State Park was very important to them. They wanted to include the site of their proposal and the wonderful view of the city of Pittsburgh. As their wedding day approached, the rainy windy weather had upset their plans. It can feel like a bit of a loss to see your photography plans being doomed by the weather forecast. When we made our final plans for the wedding portraits, we decided to go to the David L Lawrence Convention Center since it is fully protected from the rain and wind. My favorite part of this story is when Taresa and Nick said they didn’t care about the weather or the portrait location at all. They said “there are so many other parts of our wedding day that have nothing to do with the weather. We are so excited to see all of the photos of our events with our family and friends.” I breathed a sigh of relief to know that they were planning to have a great day and this was a great sign for their marriage together. Their wedding reception was held at the Pittsburgh Field Club where we took a few more portraits on the porch before joining the guests to celebrate. Everyone enjoyed dinner, a great dance party, and a late night sparkler sendoff. Congratulations, Taresa and Nick!

Natalie and Mike’s Wedding at the Pittsburgh Field Club

Natalie and Mike have the same group of friends, sort of. Mike’s high school friends became Natalie’s college friends, but the two of them didn’t meet until they both attended one of their mutual friend’s weddings years later. At the time, Natalie was living in New York City and Mike was living in Ohio. Mike would travel to New York City for business and see Natalie during his visits. Except, Mike’s job never required him to travel to New York City, he just went to meet her! Perhaps Natalie only knows this, because here are their wedding photos. Haha! Natalie and Mike were married at St. Joseph’s Parish in O’Hara Township. After a brief portrait session in the woods, they celebrated their marriage at the Pittsburgh Field Club. DJ Andy Booth welcomed guests and incorporated Natalie and Mike’s unique and wonderful music to the party. Many thanks to Nicki for her photographs, assistance, and company. Lisa and Kevin’s Wedding at The Van Dusen Mansion

Hey, everyone! I have a new sister! Last month, my family and I traveled to Minnesota to attend Ryan’s brother’s wedding. Ryan is the second of six children and I consider his siblings and their wonderful spouses to be my sisters and brothers too. I’ve recently welcomed Lisa to our “Outsiders” club for spouses of the Voss children. She’s great and I’m so happy to have her as my sister. Lisa and Kevin were married at The Van Dusen Mansion. This comfortable and unique venue has separate spaces for ceremony, cocktails, dinner, cake, and dancing. Though we have many great spaces in our city, I wish this venue were here in Pittsburgh too. The staff was so efficient in moving the guests between the events and it felt new and interesting to visit each portion of the venue. Kevin and Lisa’s wedding ceremony was performed by Kevin’s brother, Chris. I couldn’t have imagined a more personal and thoughtful ceremony. Did I mention that I have a new sister?!? I’m so excited. Oh, and Nicki was the photographer for this event so I could celebrate and enjoy. Congratulations, Lisa and Kevin!

Liz and Jake’s Wedding at Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe/Pittsburgh

Liz and Jake were married last December in a very private wedding ceremony. But, last weekend I joined them for their wedding celebration day at Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/Southpointe. Katrina and Killian’s Wedding at Heinz Chapel and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall

Katrina and Killian had a destination wedding right here in Pittsburgh. They live in Texas, where they met at their workplace. With both of their families and all of their friends living all over the country, they decided to have their wedding at Katrina’s alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh. Katrina and Killian were married in the early ceremony at Heinz Chapel. Having a long break before their reception meant plenty of time for hanging out and socializing with friends at Katrina’s college hangout, Hemingways Cafe. I do love when the newlyweds get to spend as much time as possible together on their wedding day. Later, they rejoined their guests at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall for their wedding reception. Many thanks to Pamela for her beautiful photographs and wonderful company on this wedding day. Congratulations, Katrina and Killian!

Kelly and Tim’s Wedding at the Power Center at Duquesne University

It’s remarkable for people to have a lasting relationship when they meet at a bar (even more remarkable when your sibling met their spouse in the same way). Imagine if it was your birthday and someone wearing formal wear showed up with a friend. That’s what happened on Kelly’s birthday when Tim came to her party wearing a tuxedo. The story is so remarkable, in fact, that it was recounted on the wedding day at least four times! What a lovely story to share, Following their wedding ceremony at St. John and Paul Catholic Church, Kelly and Tim enjoyed their wedding reception at Kelly’s alma mater, Duquesne University Power Center. Guests got to hear the story of Kelly and Tim’s meeting once more in a lovely introduction by Jonny Hartwell from Kelli Burns Entertainment. I was honored to have Nicki’s help once more for this beautiful wedding day. Congratulations, Kelly and Tim!
